I want to cry...OS X 10.5.4

Here I've been getting along swimmingly with my Mac for the better part of the last year and as of two months ago it has become slower than the putty colored tower I used in '97.
Everything is very slow, 7-30 seconds kind of slow. Saving, opening, surfing, emailing (from Mail).
I have verified form my start up disk, nothing to repair.
I have ran MacScan and removed everything that MacScan found.
I don't know what to do next. Defrag?
I use PS, Ai, Flash, Dreamweaver, MAil, Safari and Firefox.
Please help.

It means that something you've installed on the computer is causing the slowdown.
In safe mode you're only using the basic system software, so this means the base of your system is fundamentally in good condition.
What other software do you have running all the time? Do you have Virus checking software running? A third party firewall? Alternative mouse drivers? Menu enhancenments? It could be all manner of things, but you need to have a look at what you've installed.
Start off looking in the Login Items tab of your Account preferences and see what is running every time you log in.

  • I want to cry...

    Hi all,
OK... so about a week ago my hard drive finally packed up. I ordered a new one (Seagate 120 gig, 5400 RPM...), got the instructions from PBFixit (Which are very good I must say), and proceeded to replace my hard drive. After meticulously following the instructions and being uber sensitive to all parts, screws, etc I finally turned on my PB to a black screen!
I held the power button for 6 seconds and upon rebooting I popped in my OS restore DVD and held 'c'... black screen.
I held the power button for 6 seconds and upon rebooting I held 'alt' button for the hard ware test... black screen.
I tried resetting PRAM, NV RAM, and Power settings (Power, shift, ctrl and option all together) and all produce a (you've guessed it) BLACK SCREEN!!!!
SO after shelling out all that money for the new HD, would it seem my Logic Board is screwed???? Or is this to much of a coincidence to happen staright after installing the new hard drive???
I want to cry... I miss my Power Book!
    Any help or suggestions appreciated.

    Update:
I dropped my PB off with the local Mac shop in Wellington and the outcome isn't good/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png They say its the Logic Board/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png
I'm still a bit confused as to how these symptoms never professed themselves before I installed the new HD. Does that seem strange to anyone else also???
My next problem is what to do with the PB?
The authorised Mac reseller quoted me a total 2577 bucks NZD to replace it I nearly choked on my tea.
Thats an equivalent of 1600 US or 1300 Euro/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png Does that seem right?
If it does I'm screwed as I don't have that kinda money. I heard people mention a logic board replacement program Apple run, but the only info I can find is on the threads and I'm not even sure it applies to PB's.
    Any advice appreciated/___sbsstatic___/migration-images/migration-img-not-avail.png

  • My iBook Makes Me Want To Cry

Here shall be told the story of one of my most frustrating experiences in my dealings with computers. I apologize for the length, but this has been a problem which has plagued me for some time and I’m hoping that the more detailed my account of the tale is, the better chance there is of someone recognizing a potential solution. Without further ado, I present:
My Computer Is Broken and It’s Making Me Sad:
The story of a boy who needs his iBook working.
So I bought an iBook G4 a little over three years ago for college and have had very few problems until this summer. Seemingly out of the blue, whenever I would reboot the computer I would get the Question Mark Folder, however if I would shut down the computer and then boot it up, it would boot fine. For some reason there was an issue with restarting. One day in July however, I was browsing the web using Firefox and I got a weird error message. Unfortunately I don’t recall what it was, but it shut down Firefox, would now allow it to open again, so I decided to reboot the computer. After that I was unable to boot, constantly getting the ? Folder regardless of whether I rebooted or did a “hard boot.” My warranty had expired so there was very little help I could seek professionally, so I did my best to research the issue. I learned a lot about single-user mode and fsck, however I was never able to do a scan because of an “invalid sibling link” error. I did not have my original disks with me, and wouldn’t get them back until I could get my stuff out of storage in August, so I couldn’t boot from them and run disk utility. With the fsck check not working, I decided to set the laptop aside for a while and worry about fixing it later (I still had my desktop computer for use at home).
Last month, I had some more free time and decided I wanted to get the computer working. Assuming the hard drive was dead, I ordered a new 120GB hard drive (to replace the original 60GB). I got the new hard drive, installed OS X 10.4 with no issues, booted for the first time, ran Updates, was forced to restart because of the updates, and got the Question Mark Folder. I had assumed that the new hard drive would solve all my issues, but obviously that wasn’t the case. Having put nothing on the hard drive, I reinstalled OS X again, decided not to install any updates, tried to reboot the computer and went to a Question Mark Folder. I was stumped.
I decided to see what would happen if I put my old hard drive back into the system. I did more research and learned about fsck_hfs to do a rebuild, and when I did that on the old hard drive, it booted fine and allowed me to boot and reboot the computer. I thought if I could get the old hard drive working, I should be able to work out the issues on the new one as well (which I really wanted in the laptop as it was double the space).
With the new hard drive back in the system, I figured out that I can not reboot the machine (because I get the Question Mark Folder) but I can shut down the computer and do a “hard boot.” Based on advice I reset the PMU and ensured the Hard Drive was the startup disk, restarting still gives the ? Folder. I then tried running Disk Utility from my OS X install disk, I verified the hdd and everything was fine. Then I ran the disk permissions repair, and that was completed successfully. I ran verify disk one more time for good measure and then I got the “Invalid B-tree node size, Volume Check Failed” message. I ran two verifications about two minutes apart, the first one went fine, the second one failed.
With a few hard boots I was able to get back into OS X, ran disk utility inside OS X with no errors, rebooted into single user mode and forced an fsck with no errors. I gave the reboot command and got the ? Folder. I held the power button to shut off the system, pushed it again to start it up and the system booted fine.
Once inside I ran “Rember” to test the memory, and also rebooted to run the Apple Hardware Test, with no errors reported. I ran DiskWarrior which found no errors either. I’m not sure if this is random or not, but I’ve discovered that one of the best ways to ensure the system boots is to make sure the battery is removed and that the system is unplugged, so there is no power running to the system. Then by plugging in the system and booting up, it seems to work more often than not. I figured if removing all power ensures booting, perhaps there is an issue with the memory which is reset when the power is removed? These problems are past my area of knowledge now and this problem is so frustrating.
As I said, I’m a college student, so the loss of a laptop right now during the school year is a pretty big problem. I’m also getting ready to do a bit of traveling and not having a working laptop would be problematic. I’ve exhausted almost all my options as far as what I’m limited to based on my knowledge and research but I’m not ready to give up yet. Right now it seems my only option might be to try to use the old hard drive, and perhaps send the new one back. I know there is a chance the new hard drive is shot, but it just seems like an unlikely scenario to me. I think that’s pretty much the whole story, hopefully there’s a happy ending yet to be written. If anyone can offer anything, I would greatly appreciate it.
    Sincerely,
    me

  • I beg you.  Please.  Help me.  Flash keeps crashing and I have a beast computer.  I want to cry.

Please.  Anybody.  Somebody.  I beg you, help me!
    My Specs:
Processor:  Intel Core i7-2600k CPU @ 3.40 GHz  3.40 GHz
    RAM: 16 Gig
    Windows 7 64 bit
I have Adobe Flash cs4 and cs5.5.  I jump back and forth in attempt to bypass crashes.
My situation is not ordinary.  I'm working on a huge project.  So huge that Flash has literearlly crashed on me 1,000+ times.  (Don't worry adobe, I LOVE your products so much,  You guys are the best ever.)
When it crashes, I recieve messages about "not enough memory".
If Flash could go 64 bit, maybe the problem would be solved? I need to finish this project asap.  I beg you, please help me.
Right now it's crashing while I try to export.  Currently, with CS5.5 it crashes whiel I try to open the monster files.  But with CS4, those same monster files open fine.  Every action is a gamble.  Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't.   I'm real scared. I've spent months on this project, this is my life basically.
And for it to constantly die in front of my eyes...it kills me inside.
How can I overclock Adobe Flash?
    Devonanne83 says:
"After Googling this forever and finding no help, I finally fixed the problem and it was stupidly easy so hopefully it'll help you as well: In Flash, go to Flash>Preferences>Publish Cache and up the memory allocations. By defualt it was only at 10mb for memory cache size limit, so it ran out of memory every time I tried to export as a Quicktime movie since I had a bunch of high-res PSDs in my movie. I upped it to 200mb and works perfectly now.
That seems like a nice idea.  I didn't try it yet becuase Cs5.5 keeps crashing when I try to open my monster files.
Somebody please help me.  I'll put you in the credits, the special thanks.
    Project File Details:
    Has 2,000+ Library Items.
.fla file is 353 mb.  (if I decreased it, would that help?)

I just received some horrifying news from Adobe about my production suite.  I just FINALLY learned today that what I've been trying to do for over a week now - CAN'T be done because of compatability issues involving updates of both Adobe & Microsucks Winders!!!  I sincerely hope this is not your problem.  Mine is ALMOST HOPELESS!!  Being in this HOPELESS Obamma economy,,,, leaves NO STIMULUS in which to currently upgrade everything that needs upgraded for me to fully use my INVESTMENT in Adobe Suite - sad, horrible and SICKENING!!!
I just wanted to post this. And again, I truly hope you find a solution. Good Luck!

  • Acrobat DC SO HORRIBLE it's making me want to cry.

I can't find anywhere to file a complaint or submit feedback, so here it is.
Acrobat DC is horrible. I feel like it wasn't made for professionals at all and makes it much more difficult to navigate a simple document. My custom toolbar at the top? Gone. Replaced by ridiculous pre-school style buttons on the right. Want to re-organize page order? It opens up an entirely separate window for that, totally unnecessarily.
Thanks for giving me a day of trying to figure out how I can delete this worthless pile of kindergarten garbage and somehow get back to just Acrobat XI while still using my cloud sub.

I too have just installed this nightmare. Adobe really messed up with this bloated pile of crap. This is the "My Little Pony" version. I can only rollback to a useable version and hope the team that put this together gets sent down to kindergarten. I wasted a whole day and lost all of my settings on this little adventure.
What is with the light background?
Why cant I open pdf file to the preset magnification, just full screen? Do my customers get this if they download the reader?
Did I mention the horribly bright background?
Yes the large bright buttons are great for three year olds', but I earn my living with this software. NO!
Every time I look at a new feature I gasp. Well now I have stopped looking. I am rolling back to XI, and spending the time wasted by filling in this form.
This is the first time I have bothered to complain about Adobe software in some 25 years of use.
Okay, install complete, now I go back to work.
How about your Acrobat team go back to work too?

  • 100% CPU use making me want to cry with 3 browsers

I am using an Athlon XP 2500+ laptop/notebook with 1gb RAM
and am having high CPU problems with Firefox 2.0.0.3 (no
    extensions), Opera 9.2 and IE.7.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled Flash and Shockwave and
uninstalled my AV, HIPS and firewall - temporarily!
The following web slideshow makes any browser reach 100% CPU
and causes the mouse to seriously lag on each browser.
    http://www.koat.com/slideshow/news/13245211/detail.html
This high usage is constant, even when the mouse is not being
touched and the page is not moving or playing music, etc.
Strangely, if the controls of the slideshow are scrolled off
the screen, then CPU returns to normal: <10%
So I only get slowdown when I can SEE the buttons that move
    on to the next slide!
    Can anyone help?

  • I want to cry - I cannot load Microsoft Office for Mac 2008 on my new Imac.

I have tried three times without success.
I did trial the Microsoft Office for a month and the instructions were to remove all components of the previously loaded 30-day free trial program prior to installing the purchased software. I think I have done this but I am not sure. I wanted to phone and speak with someone but there is no phone number I can call.
Where are they all? Who can I speak with?
    Frustated granny.

Did the MS Office free trial have an option to uninstall? Some software comes with an uninstall option, even though in Macs usually just dragging the application in question to the Trash is sufficient.
Where did you obtain the free trial version from to begin with? Although it sounds counterintuitive, "sometimes" after a user "partially" uninstalls a program manually, they may have to reinstall it (in your case "it" would be the free trial version) and then choose the uninstall option.
I'm just throwing this out there. I've had no recent experience with the free trial version of MS Office.

  • You Make Me Want To Cry, Cry, Crryyyy.

    Hi all,
I was a young lad growing up in the 80's and seen this video on top Of The Pops in the year 1985 were it reached number 12 in the music charts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KxtPRF6NG7I&feature=PlayList&p=5CDB4FC377B7C1B2&playnext=1& playnext_from=PL&index=11
The song is called Cry by a group called Godley & Creme.
I  was always amazed how the fading/morphing was done and still am to this day, or at the time called analog cross-fading
Anyway, can AECS3 Pro do this, nearly 25 years on?
    Thankyou
    josel
    P.S
And can you spot Mr T?

As Mylenium says, this video doesn't use morphing---just a bunch of opacity fades and wipes.
That said, After Effects has long had the features necessary to do real morphing. Many of the Distort effects can be used for morphing, including the Reshape effect.

  • Two years w/the iMac, and I want to cry this morning...

    I am clueless.
My husband bought me Adobe Elements 8 for Christmas. With everyone's gifts open and the turkey in the oven, I opened up the box and sat down at my mac. How difficult could it be?
So I inserted the disc, and a Crossover screen popped up. I think I clicked on ignore -- something to do with adding a bottle, maybe. I figured I wouldn't need anything to help open the new software because it was made for the mac.
    Then the disc popped out.
I restarted my mac, and tried to insert the disc again, only to have it pop out at me like it did before.
What did I do and how do I fix it? I am so lost.
    Please help?
    Thank you in advance.
    Kim

It certainly sounds like Adobe put the Windows disc in the box by mistake. If you have another computer in the house you could try it there. For example, I'd like to know what it does on a Windows machine. If it installs on one that would tell you it was the wrong format. Also after it mounts on your Mac, double click the disc's icon to see what is on it.
You should be able to exchange it where it was purchased. Unfortunately you won't get to play with it today.

  • Holy Bananas! I Want to Cry!

Since I brought home my iPad 2, I have had a nuisance problem. 10-15 times a day, apps would close, Safari would close, and take me back to my desktop. I called Apple today and was told that it was a software problem. They told me to backup everything, make sure all new purchases were transferred to my Mac, and then do a New Restore. They said a backup restore would just restore the problem. They assured me I wouldn't lose anything. I followed their instructions and you know what happened, all my Pages documents were gone, a year's worth of Bible highlights and notes disappeared, I'm a Bible teacher, all my ToDo's and all my calendar entries. For me, that is really a terrible thing. Then to add insult to injury, after three hours of redirecting my icons back where they were, reconnecting my 6 pages of apps, the very first app I opened went back to the desktop 10 seconds later. I lost everything but didn't accomplish anything. Is that data all truly gone, or can I find it somewhere?

Since the iPad 2 has only been available for about a month, you couldn't have a years worth of data on it that isn't stored elsewhere too. You must've transferred this data from somewhere (presumably your computer), so you can just restore it from its original source.
Presumably, all of these Pages documents, Bible highlights, notes, ToDo's and calendars are safely backed up regularly from your Mac, using Time Machine or some other backup system?

  • Help!!! I want to cry!!! My screen has cracked!!!

Hi here, I don't know if anyone else has had this problem, or what i should do about it. I woke up this morning to find the glass cracked on my new Mac book pro 17"!!!. I understand that apple don't cover screens in their warranty, but surely there must be something i can do because the screen has cracked on its own!!! Please someone help me!!!!

How Travis would the glass brake on a display all by itself?
It is possible that the glass could break due to torsion within the aluminum frame if the lid was not quite square. This could be exacerbated by large temperature swings. In this case I would argue that Apple is obligated to replace the display (and lid, most likely) because of physical defect in the casing.
I'm not saying that this is what happened, or anything of that nature. What I'm simply saying is that there are many causes for many things. I try to believe that people are generally honest. Because it is quite easy to tell whether these machines have suffered a substantial fall (unless onto a very soft surface) I would find it hard to believe that Apple would refuse to repair it if there were no other signs of trauma. Then again, I don't represent Apple in any way, shape, or form. The original poster should not take my words as truth of any kind; I'm merely offering my own interpretation of the warranty, correct or incorrect. That's why these forums are user-to-user.

  • I'm a 41 year old man and Sony makes me want to cry

I have never felt so bullied by a company I've admired and supported my whole life. I feel so completely betrayed and I'll never forget this experience. Sony should invest more money in improving their technology rather than spending it on devising ways to bounce customers from one useless department to another to not end up anywhere in the end

    dear gary,
    thank you so much.
as it turns out, the person who created these slides for me did not use masters -- argh, another thing to remember when hiring a keynote jockey -- one would THINK when using keynote they'd use the masters...else why not just fool around with power point?!
i am saving your advice for future reference and thank you again for your kind attention.

  • Deep scratches make me want to cry

I dropped my iPod shuffle on asphalt yesterday. The scratches are not just superficial. It got severely scratched, it looks like somebody would make strikes with a key. Though it got scratched only on the clip part and the clip got also slightly moved. I really dislike the idea that I would have to just live with a scratched shuffle So what are my options before I do that?
Could I get just the clip part replaced if I send the iPod in for repair? And if that's not an option: I don't think I could remove the scratches with a scratch removal polish because they're too deep but still, I could try. What kind of heavy-duty product do you suggest?
    Thank you for your answer.

Getting the clip "repaired" would probably cost more than the $49 price of a refurbished shuffle from the online Apple Store (assuming you can buy online from Slovenia...).

  • Photoshope Elements when selecting an action, the paint brush tool doesn't work and system keeps freezing, then catching up every 30-45 seconds

I have been having this problem with elements ever since the last OS upgrade, but it wasn't all the time and it wasn't very bad. Now, I have upgraded my macbook again, and I cannot even edit a photo!! I open the photo, choose an action, say "smooth skin", then choose the paint brush, I start to "paint" over their face and it won't paint a line, I have to keep clicking it, click - it paints, move brush, click again - it paints. Plus, every time I choose a tool or an action, it freezes for about 10 seconds, then catches up to what I am doing, 30 seconds later, it freezes again. HELP!! I have 8 sessions to finish editing by this weekend!! I just want to cry!!
