I want to delete all my apps

Hi
I have itunes on a mac and the kids have 408 apps on my computer. Of which things like 4 different types/copies of a battery status are clearly not needed. I want to blitz them all and just delete the lot. However, they both have purchased items that clearly I would want to recover. Is there an easy way of getting rid of all these "rubbish" apps that they don't use without losing the purchased items. Please go easy as I am pretty useless with this type of stuff.

Actually, you asked about deleting without losing some.
"Is there an easy way of getting rid of all these "rubbish" apps that they don't use without losing the purchased items"
But no matter.
You can delete all the apps then in the App store, select Purchased at the bottom and download the purchases you want.
But selectively deleting would be much quicker.
You would still have to wade through everything to find what you want to redownload.

Why you can't redownload? Don't you have the Apple ID that used to download these apps?
You can "transfer purchaces" by right click on your iphone in iTunes but i guess you computer is not authorized and will ask you to authorize with Apple ID. Try it.

  • Itunes iOS 5.0.1 update wants to delete all my apps and media.  Think I have synced to a different computer

today I synced my iphone, it was updated with new iOS 5.0.1.  I also changed my old apple ID to my e-mail address and made a new password as suggested.
I have two libraries in itunes on my computer.  one for my iphone and one for my itouch.  They are different.  The sync and software update with my iphone went fine.  But when I opened up the library for my itouch and tried to update and sync it I got this message.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Updating to iOS 5.0.1 will delete all of the apps and media. including iTunes Store purchases. on you iPod touch.  To preserve your content. apply this update on the computer where you sync apps. music. videos. and photos.
    Updating on this computer will only preserve contacts, calendars, text message, and other settings.  Please do not interrupt the update, which may take an hour or longer to complete.  iTunes will verify the software update with Apple.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I cancelled out of that.  I have never synced my itouch with another computer.  What can I do to prevent itunes from deleting everything on my itouch?

    Hi,
Have you backed up your iPod's data to your computer/iCloud? If so, it should be fine to update.
Also, it is possible (If you have iOS 5.0 already) to update iOS on your iPod without the need for iTunes: Check your iPod has more than 50% battery, open 'Settings' on your iPod and tap General > Software Update and iOS 5.1 should be there for you to download and install. That is how I did it and it only takes 5 minutes.
    I hope this helps!

want to delete all my back up wats app messages.how do i do that

    Hi,
I would imagine the best way would be to
connect your Ipad to your mac or pc
in the info page check the box next to "sync address book contacts"
    tick "Yahoo address book contacts"
scroll to the bottom and under "advanced" check the box for contacts
    sync
I strongly suggest a backup before you do all of this.
    Let me know.

  • I hate iTunes.  It continues to download HD versions of movies when I tell it not to.  The movie I want is 4.4 gigs.  I have deleted all my apps and half my songs and still don't have enough space.  iTunes is near impossible to navigate.

I have downloaded Oblivion six times and it continues to bring the HD version.  I have unchecked the "Download HD when available" but I continue to get a file that is 4.4 gigs large.
    I hate iTunes.

You purchased the HD version, not the regular version.  It will continue to download the version you bought.  If you want the SD version you have to shell out for it.  Apple doesn't do returns.
Watch your movie.  You can always put other stuff back on later, especially music.

You can move the music to the new Mac from the iPad - if it is purchased from iTunes.

If it was not purchased but imported from CD's look for a third party app to do this - check out TouchCopy from Wide Angle Software

  • ITunes deleted all my apps after I clicked "Cancel" to sync apps

I'm at work and I wanted to do some serious app re-arranging.  Rather than doing it manually on my iPhone5, I luanched iTunes.  Note: I do *not* sync my iPhone with my work computer, but I thought maybe it could still rearrange the apps since I can see them all nicely there in iTunes.  So here were my exact steps:
    plug in my iPhone
    launch into iTunes
    click on my iPhone device
    click on the "Apps" tab
re-arrange my Apps in a different order
checked other tabs (Tones, Music, Movies, etc) and confirmed *none* are set to sync
    clicked "Sync"
Aside: Now before you jump on the "you're an idiot bus" (still quite likely), I *did* know that this might not be a great idea.  However, I  remember accidentally clicking "sync" on a foreign computer in the past, and I remember it always asked me before doing anything destructive, so I decided it was a safe thing to try.
Anyway, back to iTunes... after I clicked "Sync", this happened:
iTunes popped up a prompt saying something along the lines of "this device is not synced with this computer, if you sync apps, it will delete all the apps on the device and replace them with the apps on this computer" with options to "sync" or "cancel".
    I clicked "Cancel"
iTunes popped up another prompt saying something like "this computer is not authorized with the iTunes account for the device" with options to "authorize" or "cancel".
    I clicked "Cancel"
At this point I EXPECTED to get a message saying iTunes could not sync the device, but INSTEAD, iTunes continued doing *something*.
By the time it was done, almost all of my App Store apps were completely wiped off my phone.  What's really odd is that some were left behind.  My phone is now in this state:
native Apple apps (phone, messages, etc) and all their data (call logs, texts, etc) are still intact
almost all purchased apps are gone
none of the purchased apps that were left behind are on the computer, so that doesn't explain why they didn't get deleted with the rest
So, what the HECK happened here?  Why did iTunes destroy all my apps when I told it not to?  Has anyone else had this problem?  Is this some strange iTunes bug that there's a magical fix to get all my apps back?  Please help.
    iTunes Version: 11.1.3
    Device: iPhone5, iOS 6.1

go into the itunes store, go to your account, click purchase history. that gives you a list of all the things you have downloaded.
you will be able to re-download all your apps for free.
and for the songs, click "report problem", this will allow you to email apple, tell them that you have lost your songs, they will usually respond fairly quickly saying that they have put the songs back into your account and that they will be available to download the next time you go into itunes.

Yes there is. Those songs are not actually on your iPad. They are in iCloud ready for download if you choose to do so. If you want to remove them go to Settings>iTunes & App Store>Show All>Music>Off. You can also do this in Settings>Music>Show All Music>Off.

  • I had to do a complete system restore on my computer and now I am having issues getting all my music back. It's telling me that my account is in use with a different user but I'm the only user on my computer. When I go to sync it, it wants to delete all.

I don't want to loose all my items.

When in recovery mode you can't backup the iPod.
You will have to restore via iTunes. See:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
    iOS: How to back up
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store

  • I want to delete all music not Syncing, iTune want to delete everything

I want to delete all music in my iPhone to gain space as I do not use it for listening music anyway.
My old computer was stolen and now when I plug my iPhone in itune and try syncing ZERO music it say it will erease everything.
I fear it will remove my Apps, apps data, photo and most importantly I fear it will change the order of my icons.
I do not have ticked anything but "Sync music" will it delete all music or EVERYTHING ?
Someone told me I should use WinSCP to delete the file manually,
Any help would be greatly apreciated.

I believe MediMonkey will do that. It requires iTunes to be installed, but you don't need to open iTunes or anything.
    http://www.mediamonkey.com/information/free/
It is free but only available for PC and not for mac.
I used to use it when I had a PC, and I think you can just select all the iPhone music on it and delete it.

  • TS4036 I have deleted all my apps from my library how do I get them all back?

I have deleted all my apps from my library on itunes and now they are all in my trash can and I don't know how to get them back or even if I can. Will somebody please help????

On your computer, go to iTunes and then the iTunes store and the App Store.  In the right panel there's a "Purchased" link.  Go there and redownload the apps you want.

  • I want to delete ALL of the Contacts, and start fresh.

I want to delete ALL of the Contacts transfered from my iMac shortly after setting up my new iPad 4th Gen, so I can start a new Contact list that is better scaled down for my Face Time and eMail usage (without the other 900 business contacts). I cannot find a way to highlight the entire list and then do a single Delete. SInce I don't have Lion or higher on my iMac, I cannot do an iCloud sync to do the job. Any suggestions?
