I want to delete the "other" off my phone

It has come to my attention the there is more space that is being taken up on my phone by "other" than the amount of space that I'm actually using. It is taking 6.01 GB of my space and I'm getting sick and tired of having my phone tell me I don't have enough space when I try to take a picture or video. I have tried to restore my phone quite a few times and iTunes will not let me restore. Everything on my computer is up to date, it won't restore when I put it in recovery mode and it just won't let me restore. I have backed up my phone and when I finish, I click restore and every single time I get an error. There is no number that comes with the error. I am starting to get ****** of because the "other" is taking up almost half of my space on my phone.
Thank you for any help that you provide.

Other is anything that does not fit into the other categories.
Most of it is likely iMessage/SMS/MMS chat history, especially if there are a lot of pictures/videos in that message history.  It can also indicate corrupt data.
Try cleaning up your message history to see if that will reduce other, you may find that is the sole culprit.
Beyond that, a restore is the best way to clear up other... either from backup or as new.
If the device will not restore, then more details about what is or is not happening when attempting to restore will be necessary.

To migrate your phone to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you want to keep to your camera roll (unless already there) by opening your my photo stream album, tapping Select, tapping the photos, tap the share icon (box with upward facing arrow), then tapping Save to Camera Roll.  If you are syncing notes with iCloud that you want to keep on the phone, you'll need to open each of your notes and email them to yourself so you can later copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (which only deletes it from this device, not from iCloud; your other devices won't be effected by this), provide the password to turn off Find My iPhone (if using iOS 7) and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted .  Then sign back in with your new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge to upload your data to the new account.

Want to empty the "other space on my I-Phone any new ideas?

Is there a "New" button at the top right of the Playlists section of Music?
There is no Edit button to delete music, swipe sideways on the song to reveal the delete button. Tap and hold on the artwork in Artists and albums to reveal the (X) button to delete. Or connect the iPad back up to iTunes on the computer and check your sync settings for music to ensure you are syncing the right content.

  • I made a partition for Yosemite. It's the only one I use. I want to delete the other one that came with my mac. It won't let me do it. How do I do it?

Hello. I made a partition a while back for Yosemite. Now, I have two partitions. The Yosemite one and the other one that I made smaller and changed the name to Erase so that its easier. I need more space on my Yosemite one. How can I Make the Yosemite Partition have all of the memory. I hate that I know I have like 900 gigs lurking around my iMac that I can never use. Please help. Apple....somebody....

Erase the large partition. Clone the small volume to the large volume. Boot from the large volume. Delete the small volume then extend the large volume to the full size of the disk.
Drive Erase for Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion
    1.  Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button. Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
    2. After DU loads select the volume you wish to erase from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    3. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Clone Yosemite, Mavericks, Lion/Mountain Lion using Restore Option of Disk Utility
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
         1. Select the destination volume from the left side list.
         2. Click on the Restore tab in the DU main window.
         3. Select the destination volume from the left side list and drag it
             to the Destination entry field.
         4. Select the source volume from the left side list and drag it to
             the Source entry field.
         5. Double-check you got it right, then click on the Restore button.
Destination means the large volume. Source means the small volume.
When you finish select the Startup Disk from the Apple menu. Set the top volume as your startup volume. Click on the Restart button.

  • I just want to get the photos off my phone!!! Why is it so hard??

    Hi
Sorry to ask, I've been trying this all day and I've run out of patience.
My camera options says there is not enough space, so I want to take off the pictures from the phone. I have downloaded Blackberry desktop, synced it with the latest iPhoto for my mac, and nothing shows when I select 'Pictures' in the Blackberry desktop app.  Even if I navigate manually to the phone via the mac, go through all the folders displayed (inc 'Pictures) no photos show, despite me being able to clearly go through them on the phone. I didn't buy a media card so these pictures are saved to the phone memory. Do I have to get a card before I can remove the pictures? Any help appreciated!

  • If I delete an app off my phone, will I still have it on my computer

I only have 8g's of memory on my phone, so I want to delete some apps off my phone but don't want to get rid of them completely. If they are on my computer will I have to pay for it again to put it back on?

No, deleting apps from the iPhone will not delete them from your computer. In addition, you can always redownload apps that you have purchased. Note, however, that if you delete an app you WILL delete any data belonging to that app (such as high scores).

You have to make the changes you want in the folders on your computer, then sync your new choices via iTunes.  iPhone, iPad and iPod touch: Syncing photos via iTunes, http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4236

I want to delete a file off a thumb drive but get error 1407 which won't let me delete or trash the file.  What do I do?

Hmmm, what Format is the Thumb drive?
    In the Mac/AFP world...
      errFSNotAFolder               = -1407, /* Expected a folder, got a file */
Is there perhaps a colon or Backslash, or slash in the filename?

  • TS4147 I have 2 iphones on the same icloud for 2 different users.  We (the users) dont want identical contacts. How do I delete the contats from one phone without deleting them from the other phone.

I have 2 iphones on the same icloud for 2 different users.  We (the users) dont want identical contacts. How do I delete the contats from one phone without deleting them from the other phone.

You can't; not if the phones are sharing the same iCloud account.  If you want to keep your data separate, migrate one of them to a different iCloud account.  (You can continue to share the same iTunes ID.)
To do this, go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account (this won't effect the other phone), choose Keep on My iPhone, sign back in with a different Apple ID to set up a new account, turn on your iCloud data syncing, then choose Merge to upload the data to the new account.  You can then go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's data from each account.
Another option if you're only concerned about not sharing contacts but wish to share everything else, is to set up a second iCloud account on one of the phones and sync contacts with the secondary account.  To do this, go to Settings>iCloud, turn Contacts to Off and choose Keep on My iPhone.  Then go to Settings>Mail,Contacts, Calendars>Add Account>iCloud, sign in with a different Apple ID to create the secondary account, and turn Contacts to On.  You can then go to icloud.com from your computer and delete the other person's contacts from each account.

  • HT204022 I want to delete my pictures off iPhone because I want to free up space on the Phone. I have the pics on iCloud on my computer in my pics fdlder. I do not want to delete off computer, will it?

I want to delete my pictures off iPhone because I want to free up space on the Phone. I have the pics on iCloud on my computer in my pics fdlder. I do not want to delete off computer, will it?

Open the iCloud control panel on your computer and click "Options" next to "Photo Stream". The pictures must not be copied into either of the folders listed, any other folder is fine.
Before you delete all the photos from your phone I would recommend that you only delete one, at first, to check that it is not deleted from your computer.

  • I have the same account as my family but I want to make and use my own iCloud, so I need to get my family's off my iPhone but I DO NOT want all of the data on my phone to be deleted off. How do I make and switch my account without losing my data?

I also don't want to get rid of my family's data, either! Thanks!

To migrate your data to a new account, start by saving any photo stream photos that you wish to keep on your phone to your camera roll (unless they are already there).  To do this, open your my photo stream album, tap Edit, tap the photos, tap Share, tap Save to Camera Roll.  Next, if you are syncing notes with iCloud you will need to open them one at a time and email them to yourself so that you can later use the emails to copy and paste the text into new notes created in your new account.
Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Keep on My iPhone when prompted.  (This only deletes the account from your phone, not from iCloud.  Other's still using the account will not be effected by this.)  Then sign back in with a new Apple ID to create your new account and choose Merge when prompted to upload your data to the new account.  When you turn Mail to On you will be prompted to choose your new @icloud.com email address (if you wish to use iCloud email).
Once your device has successfully migrated to a separate account, you can go to icloud.com from your computer, sign into your new account and delete your other family member's data from your account.
