I want to disable FaceTime, not voice dialing!

When I disable FaceTime in the Permissions settings, it completely disallows voice dialing. WHAT? Those are two different things.
I want voice dialing. I want to tell my phone who to call. However, I don't want to hit that awful annoying hang-up-on-your-conversation FaceTime button.
Who is the genius who decided that disabling FaceTime disables ALL voice dialing? Please deliver stern reprimand and FIX this as it should be considered a BUG.
Srlsy, this is more ridiculous than someone sitting at a computer posting a complaint on a message board. Has this bothered anyone else?

LoL my face is not hitting buttons as the face proximity sensor works fine. I'm referring to touching the screen intentionally but accidentally hitting a button that kills the call (the FaceTime button).
Anyway, according to my phone, you are mistaken. When I use voicedial to call a contact of mine, it says "I'm not permitted to do that for you. My apologies."
Actually, it won't even let me voice dial a number if I speak the number! Same message: "not permitted..."

I'm not even sure what to call this or how it got started on my computer. There is one finder window for firefox, and another for other programs etc. I want them all back in the same finder window, please! What feature is this which got things split up, and how do I disable it?

The Get Info. fields show up gray if the files is locked and iTunes knows it can't edit the file. Make sure the files are not marked as read only and, if necessary grant both your account and system full access to all files and subfolders of your media folder.
You can set Part of a Compilation for multiple tracks from the Options tab of Get Info.

are you talking about voiceover where the phone is reading things out loud to you? you have to double tap things in voiceover in order to select them. you'll need to go to settings > general > accessibility > and turn off voiceover there

  • Voice dial not working after upgrading to iOS 5

After I upgraded my iPhone 4's operating system to iOS 5, voice dial is not working any more. When I press and hold the home button, voice control is enabled but only music-realted features (such as play, pause, etc) and "what time it is" work. The "dial XXX" and "call NAME" option don't work any more, and in the blue screen that is shown for voice control, I don't see the word "dial" appearing any more.
My friend who has iPhone 3GS upgraded and she doesn't have this problem.
Do I have this problem because I made a mistake during upgrade?
Is there some place where you can specifically disable/enable voice dial?
Or, is it Apple who disabled this feature, to temp iPhone 4 users to upgrade to iPhone 4S to have that feature back?

No, because I don't even know how to do that. I just restored the phone to one of the previous backups I had, using iTunes. The OS was unchanged (iOS 5) but the functionality was restored.
In this process, I lost all my applications, but my notes, contacts, etc were untouched (see below). As for apps, all I had to do was to look at the list of my apps in iTunes, and reinstall them.
If you want to do the same thing, note that you may lose your contacts or notes if you simply restore an old backup. Before you do so, enable iCloud and make sure your contacts and notes (and other important things) are backed up in iCloud. Then, after restoring your phone, enable iCloud again and it will fetch all the contacts, notes, etc that you might have added after that backup you just restored.

  • Disable voice dial on Nokia 6263.

I have an Australian accent, so the voice dial feature is about as useful to me as a cardboard umbrella. Unfortunately it seems that even after turning off every voice-related option I can, if I nudge, knock, brush, or even press the button on my headset to turn it off for to short a time it will decide "oh, that's a tap, he wants to voice dial".
It's worse than having a 5 year old who's just discovered how to speed dial.
I want to gut, eviscerate, eliminate, disintegrate, annihilate, and disable with extreme prejudice every jot, tittle, pinch, hint, or skerrick of support for "voice dial" in my Nokia 6263.
    Am I SOL?

Well, i have a nokia 5310, i had the same problem, call some of my contacts couple of time a day.
But my voice dialing activation key is not the volume but the clip button on the wired headphone, or the one on the top right.
I did lots of research on this, I don't how to diable this, and find it work(stop random calling my contacts) by myself if I lock the phone with a security key activated. Once the keyboard is locked, you can not dial unless you insert the security key.
<how to activate the security key>---main menu---->setting---->phones setting ----->security keyguard on------->setup your security keyguard. If you don't want to activate your security keyguard, you can turn it off any time. Also, change your security code by going to  main menu---->settting---->security---->access code---->change security code.
    Cheers!
I also have a Nokia 5310 and was having the same problem.  I found that after I reset the phone settings (menu>settings>Rest.factory sett.>Restore settings only), when voice dialing is activated, the phone activates the "train voice recognition" feature instead of actually doing any voice recognition/voice dialing.  The phone just sits there and waits for user input.  I'm not sure if the 6263 has a "train voice recognition" feature, but if it does, this may work for you.

  • Want to disable/"grey out" dial-up connection "settings" button in the "connections" tab of Internet Options

Hi, I'm looking to "grey out" a dial-up connection for some users in workplace, so that they are forced to use our VPN client in order to access the web. Does anyone know if this is possible?
I know you can disable all settings on that tab using local group policy, (e.g. Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Internet Explorer) but I only want to disable a specific dial-up connection (for usb 3G modems).
I've read of various IE settings being locked down in the registry here, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Policies\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Restrictions, but havent seen the settings I want.
The actual connection is visible here, HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Internet Settings\Connections, I just cant figure out how to grey it out. Any ideas? Thanks!

  • Blackberry Curve alarm does not go off because voice dialing is trying to connect

Someone please help me.  I have set my alarm with a custom ring tone and escalating, but it has not worked the last three days, where it had for the previous two weeks.  I have not changed any settings, so I am not sure what could have possibly happened.  Each day I wake up, thank God I have a backup alarm clock, and check my phone in the other room on the charger.  It is stuck on the voice dialing activation screen, which is very odd because I have voice dialing disabled.  Does anyone have any idea what may be wrong and how to fix it?  I would much rather wake up to the ring tone that I have chosen as opposed to a regular (and obnoxious) alarm clock.  Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks in advance.

It sounds like a software fault.
You need to download the latest version for your device from the carrier the phone was sold with.
Save the folder to your desktop, double click it to install it your computer. (can take 40 mins to download)
Then you connect up the blackberry and using the program called application loader,(which is built into the desktop manager program that came on the cd) push the new software to the device. Ensure when you see an 'advanced' box, you click into it, to check both check boxes to remove all current installed software.
Here is a list of software carrier sites:

  • Voice dial does not confirm nor allow cancel

When I use voice dial (usually via bluetooth headset on iPhone 3GS), if the iPhone decides it has found an exact match, it will notify me of the match and then start dialing.  It does not confirm the match with me, and when it starts dialing, the "Cancel" keyword does not work - nor does pressing the call button on my headset do anything.
Instead, I have to frantically dig my phone out of my pocket and scramble to the phone interface and presss "End Call" before the accidental international call goes through.
Is there a way to allow either or both actions in iOS?  Or is there a way to submit an enhancement request?

  • I have multiple devices that have my iCloud E-mail, I want to disable the E-Mail on some of the devices but keep it on others, I do not have physical access to the ones I want to disable but I do have access to the devices I want to keep receiving mc

I have multiple devices that have my iCloud E-mail, I want to disable the E-Mail on some of the devices but keep it on others, I do not have physical access to the ones I want to disable but I do have access to the devices I want to keep receiving mail, can I do this with a simple password reset or will that still leave all devices enabled?

The simple way would be to uncheck 'Mail' in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud, but as you would need access to the devices in question to do that you will have to change your password, at http://appleid.apple.com. You will then need to sign out and back on all the devices you want to be able to receive mail, and it's important that you follow this procedure and note the warning:
Firstly, if you have 'Find My iPhone/iPad/iMac' enabled on any of your devices, turn it off.
Go to http://appleid.apple.com and click 'Manage your Apple ID'. Sign in with the current ID.
Where it says 'Password & Security' and gives your current ID email address, click 'edit'.
Enter your new password and click 'Save changes'.
Now you will need to go to each of your devices and sign out in System Preferences (or Settings)>iCloud - 'Sign out' on a Mac, 'Delete this account' on an iOS device (this will not delete the account from the server).
Then sign back in with your new ID. Your iCloud data will disappear from your devices when you sign out, but reappear when you sign back in.
I re-iterate: before you start, turn off 'Find My Mac' (or whatever) or you will need the services of Support.
The devices on which you have not changed the password will throw up continual error messages as they attempt to contact iCloud and fail.

The Game Center app is pre installed and cannot be removed from the device.
Best thing to do is move it to the last available screen.
Hold down the Game Center app until all the apps jiggle then sliide the Game Center app to the right from one screen to the next. This requires a bit of finesse, but it's doable.
Press the Home button one time to stop the apps from jiggling.
For the Apple ID issue, try resetting.
Tap Settings > General > Reset > Reset All Settings
Then try your Apple ID and password for the Game Center app.

  • 4.3 Update - Car Stereo Issue, voice dialing not working with Bluetooth

I've seen some similar issues reported, but they were for specific cars/stereos, and the symptoms were different, so I'm posting about mine:
Phone: Samsung Galaxy SIII, Android 4.3.
    Car Stereo: Pioneer AVH-X2500BT
This is a stereo I bought and installed myself. All of its features worked fine, and I was enjoying making calls using voice dialing via the stereo. Then, I installed the 4.3 update to the Galaxy SIII. Ever since (literally, I made a call that day before installing it, and tried shortly after), I cannot use the voice dialing feature. Any attempt to use voice dialing or voice commands via the car stereo will fail. Here's what happens:
I do a long press on the car stereo's Home button to initiate voice dialing. On my phone, S-Voice starts up, and a Toast (little message) pops up briefly that says "Check in-car audio". When I talk, the little animation on the microphone button in S-Voice does not happen, meaning it's not hearing anything. The car stereo shortly cancels out of voice dialing mode, as though it timed out, or something.
I've tried switching to Google voice, but the same thing happens. I've tried all kinds of configuration on both devices. I've unpaired and re-paired. Nothing.
Also, turn-by turn directions from Google Maps appears to not work. The app thinks it's giving them, and when I turn the car off, the voice suddenly works from the phone, but it just won't come out the stereo.
All other features work fine, including Pandora, and streaming Bluetooth audio. I can even make phone calls, by accessing the contacts and recent call list from the car stereo. The calls work and come through the stereo fine. Literally voice dialing and Google Maps are all that doesn't work.
Does anyone know how to fix this?

There could be any number of factors that may be affecting this, byounie. It may be that the firmware on your car stereo headunit may need to be updated. My direct recommendation to check first would be to access your bluetooth submenu, and next to paired info for the Pioneer AVH-X2500BT, you should see a little cog wheel/settings icon. Please select this, and start unselecting everything available there. Work your way up, and enable and test these different settings one by one, to see if there is a conflict between Google Maps and Voice dialing services. Let us know what happens, byounie.

My elderly mother has EXTREMELY limited vision and is a technophobe. I am considering an iPhone with Siri.  Can I turn off everything else so she can use only the phone app and voice dialing or Siri and not accidentally open any other app and screw something up.

I'm asking, in all seriousness, why do you think your mother needs an iPhone? Honestly, if your mother is, as you described her, a technophobe, I would recommend against getting an iPhone or any other smartphone. I've spent a fair bit of time teaching older folks to use smartphones. If they are interested in learning, it's fine. If they have the phone because their kids or grandkids thought it was a good idea but they are afraid of the phone or not interested in its features, it doesn't go well at all.
Many basic phones have voice dialing. Obviously, it doesn't do all the things Siri does but it may be much less intimidating for your mom. Also, basic phones have hardware keys. Even someone with limited vision can learn the keyboard on such a phone. From the sound of your first post, all she will be doing is making phone calls.
    Best of luck.

It appears that you may not have a properly installed OS X system.
You must be connected to the Internet to reinstall OS X.
In the menu bar, choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys.
Select “Disk Utility,” and then click Continue.
Select your startup disk from the list on the left, and then Repair Disk.
After disk is repaired, select Reinstall OS X, then click Continue.
Follow the onscreen instructions. In the pane where you select a disk, select your current OS X disk
