I want to disable Vlan.dat config backup in LMS

Hi All,
LMS do backup my running config and valn.dat. But due to some policies we want to exclude the vlan.dat in the backup.
Can anybody confirm if it is possible in LMS.
Regards,
Sanjay

Joe,
Sorry if this is an ignorant question.
It was always my understanding that the vlan.dat was a file holding the temporary changes in VLAN configurations a VTP client receives from the VTP server.
So what is the actual purpose of backing up this file?
In case a switch is replaced it will receive updates from the VTP server and can match the VLANs to the VLAN defined on it's ports.
Also I never saw any restoring of a vlan.dat in LMS.
I'm confused here. Thanks for an explanation or pointing to relevant documents.
Cheers,
Michel

  • My Ipad is disable and i want to recover my data

    Dear All,
My Ipad is showing message "This device is disable", i shown it to some local technicians but they said we can recover your password but all your data will be lost, I dont want to loose my data, kindly advice me what should i do to safe my data and recover the password, Thanks and Regards, Omair Mansoor

You were told correctly. The only way to reset the passocde is to restore the device.  If you do not already have a backup in place, then the restore as new will delete all the current content. There is no alternative solution - you have to restore the iPad in order to reset the password.  You should have been backing up regularly so you would have a backup to restore from.  Now, it is too late to think about making a backup.
Do you have an iCloud account, and did you enable automatic iCloud backups?  If so, you can restore from the iCloud backup once you have reset the passcode.

you can't recover iOS crypted backup password, for security purposes. your backup is useless. sorry.
if you still have your old iPhone, make a new back-up

  • ISE Config Backup Failure - Data filesystem full above threshold

    Hi,
Both the config and operational backups were working until earlier last month. Now the config backup is failing with the following error. No configuration or repository settings were changed.
ISE 1.2.0.899 Patch 8 - Clustered with persona Node 1 = PAN, SMN, PSN .... Node 2 = SAN, PMN, PSN
    CLI history says the same:
The local repository (disk:/) is looking good. The "/" filesystem is taking 77% space.
Although it may not be relevant. Data Purging is set to 30 days in the GUI and Operations -> Reports -> Data Purging Audit indicates its running daily with success i.e. threshold_space = 80GB, used_space = 3GB.
Is there a way to clean "/" filesystem ? It is filling up by roughly 1% every 5 days ? Note: the same on Node 2 is only 24% full.
Any ideas on how to get the config backup issue resolved ?

    Hi JK,
Thanks for response. Yes, I am worried that it may not be enough. How about if I increase memory to 32GB, ie. I have two servers, both with 32GB? Will it be sufficient in case of one physical server fail for 8GB data?
What is the point in having the 3rd physical box if two boxes have enough memory/capacity? You know, we need to pay licence according to no of CPU.
    thanks,
    HenryHi Henry,
actually the recommended minimum number of physical boxes is 4 so that the witness protocol participants can all be on separate machines.
But a minimum of 3 is highly recommended for a number of reasons related to partitioning:
    1. If you have only 2, then you are much more vulnerable to split brain scenarios (should for some reason the two servers not be able to communicate with each other, it is harder to decide which half should be the winner). In short how do you decide which box is unable to communicate with the rest of the cluster if there are only 2 boxes?
    2. You can't ensure a balanced and also machine safe partition distribution if you have a mismatching number of nodes on only 2 boxes. It would either be balanced or machine safe, but you can't get both at the same time. And you will either have mismatching number of nodes at startup or have mismatching number of nodes after one node failure.

    Robert

  • I want to disable the encryption for my backups. Where do I find that?

I want to disable the encryption in ITunes so I can work with restoring my new Iphone 5s and my new Ipad Air.
    Where do I find that?

    Hello RadioProf,
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.
For more information, take a look at:
    iTunes: About iOS backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4946
    iOS: Troubleshooting encrypted backups
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS5162
iTunes will continue making encrypted backups until you deselect the Encrypt backup checkbox in the iTunes Device Summary screen. You need the backup password to disable backup encryption or to restore from an encrypted backup.
    Have a nice day,

I want to restore my data after my pad was reset, but the latest backup was 5 months back. What can I do?

There is nothing that you can do. If you don't have a more recent backup, you can't magically create a current backup now. You can use the 5 month old backup, or simply start all over again. You can download most of your purchased content again as long as you use the same Apple ID that you used to make the purchases.

  • LMS 4.0 Config collection vlan.dat

    Hi Guys,
    I have a network with 4500, 3560 and 2960 switches.
In my LMS I have created 1 credential set to access all the switches. The config collection (startup, running and vlan) has succeeded for all the 2960 switches. The collection of the running and startup config has also succeeded for the 4500 and 3560 switches. But LMS doesn't collect the vlan.dat from the 4500 and 3560 switches. (inventory collection is ok with all the switches).
I have only configured SSH as config fetch protocol.
Why doesn't my LMS collect the vlan.dat of the 3560 and 4500 switches. The difference between the 2960 and the other switches is that there are only 2 vlans created on the 2960 switches and +30 vlans on the 3560 and 4500 switches.
Is the vlan.dat file maybe to big on the 3560 and 4500 to be collected with ssh...
    Any ideas?
    Thanks,
    Best Regards,
    Joris

I believe that LMS 4.2 can get the vlan.dat via SCP. Prior versions require TFTP to do this.
The commands to start the TFTP can be send via TELNET, SSH and possibly SNMP.

    Michel

  • Erasing a config and vlan.dat file in Catalyst 4507R Switch

    Hi,
I am unable to erase the configuration from Catalyst 4507R Switch. When i do "write erase" and reload the switch, the configuration still remains on the switch.
    Switch1#write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all configuration files! Continue? [confirm]
    [OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    mp024-dc-nr00#sh start
    startup-config is not present
After this i did reload and configuration still didn't get removed.
    I  tried
    erase /all nvram:
    reload
    This also didn't help.
    I also tried:
    erase /all non-default
    reload
    This also didn't help.
Can anyone suggest how to erase the config on Catalyst 4507R Switch.
    Thanks,

    Hi Saroj,
do you see the below symtoms:
    Cat4500# write erase
Erasing the nvram filesystem will remove all files! Continue? [confirm]y[OK]
    Erase of nvram: complete
    Cat4500# reload
System configuration has been modified. Save? [yes/no]: n
!--- Do not save the configuration at this prompt. Otherwise, the switch
!--- reloads with the current running configuration and does not reset to default.
    Proceed with reload? [confirm]y
    2w0d: %SYS-5-RELOAD: Reload requested
To erase the vlan.dat file on the 6500/6000 switches, issue the erase const_nvram: command. On the 4500/4000 switches, issue the erase cat4000_flash: command. On the fixed configuration switches, issue the delete flash:vlan.dat command.

  • A problem with vlan.dat retrieval in the RME

    Hello,
the customer has LMS 3.1 and he uses RME for the backup of config files and vlan.dat files from netwrok devices. It is working fine, but he has problem with backuping vlan.dat files from the following switches: Cat2960-8TC,-24TC, Cat2960G-24TC,-48TC,-8TC and Cat3560E-24TD-E,S. I downloaded the latest packages for these devices into RME. I changed the telnet timeout value from 32s to 70s. But this issue still exist:-( The running and startup config from these switches is downloaded without any problem. Is it a bug?
    Thank you
    Best Regards
    Roman

    Hello,
I tried it manually and the copy is working ( i had to create empty file in the tftp directory under CSCOpx):-( The error mesage is that ssh and telnet is not available and tftp doesn't support fetching of vlan.dat. But ssh is working on the switches (the running and startup config is fetched by RME without any problem from these switches). The credentials verifications is done with OK for ssh and enable secret for these switches.

  • LMS 4.2 and Shadow Dir/Config Backups

    Hi all,
Back with more LMS questions.  We have 4.2 running (two separate instances - we have more than one network) and I have a config collection job set up.  Upon initial discovery, configs were pulled from all devices into the Shadow director as expected.    However, since initial discovery, the Shadow directory has not been updated despite the fact that it is set up to pull config backups daily from all devices.
Under the Archival Summary, it does show that all devices were successful or partially successful (the partials are where VLAN collection failed...I'm unsure why it is even trying given I disabled VLAN collection).  So it appears to be working, yet the configurations have not changed in the Shadow directory.
Any ideas why this may be happening?  Does it only update the Shadow dir if the device config actually changed since last scheduled job?  None of the configs HAVE changed since I discovered them.
We use SNMPv3 and SSH as access methods for LMS.
Thanks in advance for any thoughts!
    Jen

You answered it... The shadow directory only contains the current config and only changes when updated.
    Thanks.

  • How can I import the vlan.dat file to flash?

I have copied the config and vlan.dat files via tftp to the computer and want to import them to a replacement switch. Both switches are 2960 model. I get the config over fine but not sure how to get the vlan.dat file to the flash.

    Hi Jerry,
    Please try below command.
    copy tftp://x.x.x.x/vlan.dat flash:
Where x,x,x,x is the tftp ip address.
    Hope this helps.
