    Use this ancient work-around:
    Create mutli-page PDF | Illustrator

  • Can't open multi-page illustrator file

I'm on a mac. I have Illustrator CC. I'm trying to open a multi-page .ai file, and I get the dialogue that usually happens when you're trying to open a non-illustrator multi-page pdf. :
    here's a screenshot:
    http://grab.by/yNEg
when I do a get info on the file, it says Saved As v.15 Created by v.15.0.0
How can I open this file and get all the artboards without running a script? I want to retain all the text formatting.
    thanks!

That usually happens when files get corrupted and only the PDF part of the file is still intact.
Did you perhaps save it directly to or open it directly from a server?

  • Opening Adobe illustrator CS5 file in CorelDraw X5

I was totally new to graphic design and the best I could do was resize images in MS Paint or use Word 2010. Than I discovered Adobe Illustartor as I needed to make a logo and Letter Head. After breaking my head against my monitor (does not hurt any more) and learning it for 2 weeks, I became sufficiently good enough (if I can be excused to say that) and designed the logo and letterhead. Now it has to go to print.
The problem is that all the commercial printers and the people who use them, HERE use CorelDRAW and not only that but also older versions from 9 to 15. They refuse to take Adobe Illustrator files or even CorelDRAW files above version 12 such as v15 or X5. They refuse to work with PDF files also. No Word 2010 files either. Simply and Only CorelDRAW files of version 9 to 12.
The Adobe Illustrator CS5 does not have options of saving the files in ".cdr" format. And when I import or open the ".ai" file in CorelDRAW X5, many things happen. Color changes of text as well as objects. Some objects do not get displayed. Alignment and positioning gets changed, and many others.
I have taken some steps after reading on the net to make it easier for CorelDRAW X5 to import the ".ai" files. And also tried many things. These include, but are not limited to..
Uncheck/disable the "compression" when saving the file in AI-CS5.
Uncheck/disable the "Embed ICC Prile" when saving in AI-CS5.
    Convert all text to outlines.
Saving in "SVG", "PDF" all different versions.
Saving in older AI-CS5 Legacy versions.
Exporting the file from AI-CS5 in different file formats.
    Importing the file from CD-X5.
    Working in RGB Color Mode.
      ... And many more.
Please note that I can not be expected to fresh learn CD-X5 and abandon AI-CS5 and design from the begining, if that is a "sole" answer. Also my design is simple enough. Attached are 2 pics. One of the logo and the other of the letterhead. Just 3 rounded rectangles filled with 2 color gradients and vectors of animals with styles applied to those animals and with text at the bottom.
    The Logohttp://oi44.tinypic.com/ieqs0m.jpg
    The LetterHeadhttp://oi41.tinypic.com/1zzj03s.jpg
Please further note (yes! I know, you have heard that many times) that although I was successful in designing (the asthetic beauty of the design is another matter), I am still new to designing. So Color Theroy or Font theroy have not made past me. And I wonder what's the point of having a standard of "SVG" If these so called "Vector Editing Applications" can not handle the files uniformly?
I guess my question is how to either
    Export/Save/Save As/Place the file from AI-CS5 to CD-X5
    Import/Open/Open As/Place the file in CS-X5 from AI-CS5
Without changes being made to it. My objective to to hand over a print ready file to the printing guys.
    Thanks in Advance.

Not CS3 but version 3 like this

  • How to export to an Illustrator CS5 file iin CS6

I am working on a project at school which has Illustrator CS6 Installed and my friend has CS5 on his computer, and his computer would not read a CS6 file. Is there a way to export from CS6 as a CS5 file?

Do a Save as .ai and take a closer look at the options you can choose there (AI CS5 compatibility).

  • Let me choose which font(s) to substitute when opening an Adobe Illustrator (CS5) file

    Hello!
I have an illustrator Windows file, created by someone else, and one font is missing.
When I open the file, Illustrator says a font is missing and it will substitute the missing font.
How can I tell Illustrator to use a specific font instead of Illustrator automatically making that decision for me?
    Thanks!
    Rowby

    Rowby,
I am afraid it is impossible.
You will need to see which font it is substituted by, and then you may change it with Type>Find Font.

  • Adobe Illustrator CS5 File sizes are huge!

    Try this:
    open a new Illustrator document
create a simple box, black stroke, white fill
    save the file
you're looking at something like 1 Mb for these 4 anchor points and the fill and stroke definition!
now, back in Illustrator, downsave to Illustrator 3 format
file size is in around 6Kb - much better!
Okay, I know we can disable ICC profile embedding, PDF compatibility etc, but none of that even comes remotely close to the "correct" file size of < 10Kb.
C'mon Adobe, what are you putting in that CS5 file that's so darned important? This isn't a complex illustration with gradient masks, 3D transforms and thousands of points.
I get it, everyone has terrabyte drives and high-speed internet. Is that an excuse to make really inefficient file formats?

    hmmmm......
As Monika pointed out... deleting the defualt library items will make files sizes drastically smaller.
I'd guess that version 3, since it lacked the ability to work in preview mode, didn't save file previews with the file either... that could easily account for 50kb.

  • Indesign or Acrobat multi page and crop files

I have a two-page indesign document which is 24.5 inches wide and 9 inch tall.
As we move through the production cycle I need to supply my client with
    Actual size files for review.
The current process is to distill a PDF.
    (1)  Open in acrobat Pro
    (2)  Crop from the Right (all pages)
    (3)  Save as part one (two page PDF)
    (4)  Undo
    (5)  Crop from Right and Left (all pages)
    (6)  Save as part two (two page PDF)
    (7)  Undo
    (8)  Crop from the Left (all pages)
    (9)  Save as part three (two page PDF)
    (10)                 Combine all three files (two pages each) into a six page PDF
    (11)                 Move pages 2 and 4, after page 5
    (12)                 Save new file
Any thoughts as to how to automate this process?
    Thanks,
    John Perry

Sounds to me like maybe this should be laid out as individual pages in ID, but I'm having a hard time picturing what the file looks like.
    Why distill instead of Export?

  • How Can You Bring Illustrator Cs5 Layers into Photoshop Cs5?

Hi everyone, Is it possible to bring Illustrator artwork into Photoshop so that the layers in Illustrator are layers in Photoshop, and so that all the content is arranged as it was in Illustrator.
What I have been doing is bringing in a shape or a group of shapes into Photoshop by pasting them into a layer in PS then bringing in some more stuff from another layer in Illustrator and pasting that into another layer in PS but obviously it's a mission to line up the contents again so it is arranged like it was in Illustrator in the first place.
    Any help appreciated
    thanks Gareth

No, it doesn't say how to do it there
Well, then you probably haven't read carefully enough about what can be set up when exporting as .psd in Illustrator.
When you export as .psd there are several export options about preserving layers. As mentioned, there are some restrictions.
But tell me, what is unclear about the following quote?
    Write Layers
Exports groups, compound shapes, nested layers, and slices as separate, editable Photoshop layers. Nested layers that are more than five levels deep are merged into a single Photoshop layer. Select Maximum Editability to export transparent objects (that is, objects with an opacity mask, a constant opacity less than 100%, or a blending mode other than Normal) as live, editable Photoshop layers.
    Preserve Text Editability
Exports horizontal and vertical point type in layers (including nested layers up to five levels deep) to editable Photoshop type. If doing so compromises the appearance of the artwork, you can deselect this option to rasterize the text instead.
    Maximum Editability
Writes each top-level sublayer to a separate Photoshop layer if doing so doesn’t compromise the appearance of the artwork. Top-level layers become Photoshop layer sets. Transparent objects remain editable transparent objects. Also creates a Photoshop shape layer for each compound shape in a top‑level layer if doing so doesn’t compromise the appearance of the artwork. To write compound shapes with solid strokes, change the Join type to Round. Whether or not you select this option, all layers over 5 levels deep are merged into a single Photoshop layer.

  • Issues exporting gradients from Illustrator CS5 files to EPS 8

Hello everyone, I'm having problems exporting illustrator files to EPS, mainly with gradients that aren't rendering properly. These fills are appearing as small sliced objects rather than complete shapes. Any advice?
    Thanks!

Illustrator 8 is over a decade old. I expect that Adobe has significantly changed the way gradients are saved in Illustrator files since version 8. So, in order to preserve the appearance of the gradient Illustrator just expands it, rather than continuing to support a legacy format that’s so old. This is unfortunate but understandable.
Perhaps there are other options. Why are you saving as an Illustrator 8 EPS file? Surely you are not sending the file to someone who has no more recent version than 8? If the file is not meant for use exclusively with Adobe Illustrator 8 then it will be converted to some other format when the person you are sending it to opens it. When that happens, expect the gradient to be converted anyway.
My point is I doubt this Illustrator 8 EPS file will need to be edited, so it doesn’t matter that the gradient is expanded.

  • Saving illustrator CS5 files in Mac OSX Lion makes the app to crash

    Hello!
I have serious troubles with illustrator since i've installed Lion. All my files are stored in a networked Western Digital USB disk connected to the Airport Extreme via USB port. When a file is open in illustrator and try to save ir after a few changes the APP CRASH! No matter if the file was in the desktop or in the networked drive, always crash! The file is saved OK and with no errors but the app crash and need to be "Force Quited" and open again...
Anybody has this issue with illustrator and Lion? Anybody has a fix for this?
    THANKS!!!

Like leitowys all of my ai files that are saved over the network (on time capsule) do it... Big or small.
I should also note I never had this problem in Snow Leopard ... On my laptop I reverted back to snow leopard after upgrading to lion, and my illustrator works fine again saving over network etc.
Also, when I try to force quit once it has frozen up in illustrator, everything freezes up and I eventually have to power button restart.

  • Anyone know of a Lion-compatible Quicklook plugin for Illustrator CS5 files?

The Lion update seems to have hosed the plugin I had, which worked OK under 10.6.  Thanks!

Thanks for this suggestion.  I have tried SneakPeek Pro without success.  The installer ran, created a plugin and a preference pane, but invoking QuickLook for Illustrator files still showed me just the file icon.
I have also tried the Adoview plugin.  Same result.
I can't find good information on troubleshooting either of these plugins; this seems to be a pretty underdeveloped area.  That's a surprise.
Any further suggestions (troubleshooting these plugins, hacks, other plugins) are more than welcome.  Thanks!

  • Illustrator(cs5) file has stopped showing pictures

I was working on a file that has quite a few PDF images/graphs/tables in it and suddenly it said something about "preview no longer available" and quit showign all my images. I have restarted the program and the computer. I've tried deleting some pictures. Everything else seems to still work...I can make changes, save it as a pdf and see the changes, but I can't see the images. Any ideas?

Is it still in Outline Mode? Try Cmd(Ctrl)-Y and see what happens. Basically you've reached the limit of CS5 which ia about 3GB of usable RAM. If you need to use more, you will have to move to CS6 which is 64bit.

  • Opening Multi-page PDFs in Illustrator CS2

A client sent me a 32 page pdf that was originally created from a giant Illustrator file. (He doesn't have the original Illustrator file). I want to rebuild it using InDesign, and I need to save elements from each page to use in my new layout.
So am I correct that in order to do this, I have to open the pdf in Illustrator, choose page 1 from the dialog, save it out as an Illustrator file. Then open the pdf again, choose page 2, save it out. And so on, up to page 32? In other words, I need to open the pdf 32 times to get at each page? I can't seem to find anything in my books addressing this. And there is no option for opening it as a multi-page Illustrator document (with page tiling).
    Thanks for any ideas!

Do you have a copy of Acrobat 7 or 8 (Pro, not Reader)? If so, open the PDF in Acrobat and from the Document menu select Extract pages making sure you have checked the box that says Extract Pages as Separate Files.

  • Multi-page PDF to multiple single-page PDFs

Hello, I'm wondering if anyone out there knows a way, if you have a multi-page PDF, to export each individual page to it's own single-page PDF.  Is there a way to do this in Acrobat?
Or is there a way in Microsoft Word using Adobe's PDF print driver, to print each page to it's own single-page PDF?
Ultimately I want to run a batch process on each PDF page in Illustrator, but for me to do that each page needs to be it's own PDF.
    Thanks for any help!!!!

    Something that may help -
With a multi-page PDF open in Acrobat Pro; select Document > Extract Pages
In the Extract Pages dialog you can select "Extract Pages As Separate Files".
This will provide you with a PDF file for each page of the source PDF file.
    Additional options are also possible.
In a thread at AUC, Thom Parker identifies these.
