SafeMode is a troubleshooting / diagnostic mode that purposely disables all installed extensions; you can't selectively enable specific extensions while you're running in the SafeMode.
What are you trying to accomplish?

  • After updating to v. 24.0 (and restarting) ALL add-ons (regardless whether they work or not) are marked "(disabled)", and clicking Enable button does nothing

After updating to v. 24.0 (and restarting, several times) ALL add-ons (regardless whether they work or not) are marked "(disabled)". I tried clicking "Enable" button for each add-on and nothing happened. There is only one add-on which is marked as incompatible with this version (but it was also incompatible with previous version, and so marked).
Clicking "Update Add-ons", gives a short list of add-ons but "Install Updates" button is pale and doesn't work. I can only sort list by name or last update.
Also, I disabled Ask Toolbar and that went well. When I click "Enable" button (button works ONLY for this add-on) it takes forever to get note: “Ask Toolbar will be enabled after you restart Firefox”, I used to get this info in seconds time before this update. (I do not really want Ask Toolbar, I just used it to see whether if I disable and then enable an add-on might do the trick.)
Bottom line – I can not tell if add-on works (i.e. if it is enabled or disabled) unless I try using it.
Even when I posted this question and installed Troubleshooter, it's also marked as "(disabled)"

    You're welcome

  • Why, after disabling all add-ons to correct a problem with Norton, am I unable to re-install Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396, even though all 7 applications in the "Containing Folder" are enabled?

mynortonaccount.com web page began coming up whenever I would go on line. Norton email support gave me steps to follow using my Firefox browser, in the safe mode, to disable all add-ons and reset user preferences to Firefox defaults.
Since then, although trying about 15 times, I have been unable to reinstall Adobe Acrobat 10.0.0.396 so that it functions.
From the "Re-initializing the plugins database" article, and progressing to the "Open Containing Folder," but unable to select File and Exit menu, I did locate "Adobe Acrobat" version 10.0.0.396
which showed all seven applications "enabled." This problem is with Firefox only. Internet Explorer functions normally.

If you want adobe acrobat pdf files to open in firefox you need an acrobat plugin, have you checked that is installed and enabled.

I can reenable them but FF will disable them on the next startup. I uninstalled version 13 and installed version 12. Problem gone! So I'm still using version 12 and am afraid to update to version 13.
This problem began when I was trying to research and fix a problem (no history all-of-a-sudden) so it probably was something I caused. Can't recall everything I did though.
So: Does the addon problem I described have a solution? If so, I'll update my version 12 to version 13. Please respond.....

If it does work in Safe-mode then disable all extensions and then try to find which is causing it by enabling one at a time until the problem reappears.
*Use "Disable all add-ons" on the [[Safe mode]] start window to disable all extensions.
    * Close and restart Firefox after each change via "File > Exit" (Mac: "Firefox > Quit"; Linux: "File > Quit")
Another possible cause is a problem with the file places.sqlite that stores the bookmarks and the history.

  • I have disabled all add ons and extensions to stop adverts but everytime I log into my pc the adverts appear again? not happy :(

since I updated firefox I have been HOUNDED by adverts. I read an article that suggested disabling all add ons and extensions but they seem to enable themselves again after I open my pc! I am very careful and always tick and untick boxes when I am downloading updating anything to ensure this doesn't happen therefore these add ons seem to have been automatically added by firefox during the update. not cool! the amount of adverts and the fact I have never suffered from such a pop up invasion in my life is becoming EXTREMELY annoying how do i permanently stop these adverts?

  • Are all add-ons third party?

I am required by my new job to disable/remove all third-party add-ons. Is there a way to discern which add-ons are third party and which are not? Are all add-ons third party? Please advise. Thanks!

Extensions and Themes hosted at addons.mozill.org goes through a review process.
Toolbars are one type of extensions you may want to be more careful about and avoid any that mentions the word '''conduit''' anywhere especially or even ones that has a privacy policy.
The word Addons does not refer to just Extensions as it also groups together Themes (both complete and background images aka Personas) , Plugins, and even dictionary, language packs, search engines are included.

  • Until I disabled all add-ons, 'New Tabs' did nothing! Any thoughts?

    {No Biggy}
    NEW TABS.
The New Tabs box was totally unresponsive until I restarted Firefox with all Add-Ons Disabled.
The main Add-Ons used were, FlashGot \ with Internet Download Accelerator (IDA), and 1 or 2 resizing tools, to reduce page size which was constantly oversize.
Anyone care to shed a little light on what they think is a probable reason(s) why this occurred?

If it works in Safe Mode and in normal mode with all extensions (Firefox/Tools > Add-ons > Extensions) disabled then try to find which extension is causing it by enabling one extension at a time until the problem reappears.
Close and restart Firefox after each change via "Firefox > Exit" (Windows: Firefox/File > Exit; Mac: Firefox > Quit Firefox; Linux: Firefox/File > Quit)

  • Firefox crashes for 10 seconds when trying to download files, deleting downloads.sqlite, reinstalling firefox, disable all add-ons doesn't solve this problem. Help!

I am having this problem for weeks now.
    What I tried:
    - Defragmentation
    - Reinstall Firefox on a different location
    - Change download location
    - Start Firefox in safe mode and try download
    - Disable all add-ons and plug-ins
    - Complete malware/spyware scan
    - Complete virus scan
    - Delete downloads.sqlite in the profile folder
    - Uninstall firefox and delete the entire mozilla folder in Roaming location
    - Disabling antivirus
Nothing helps! I'm only having this problem in Firefox. Downloading with Chrome for example doesn't give any problems.
How can I resolve this problem? I'm really desperate.
    Thank you in advance!
    Yanco

Thanks for your input but I already said that I deleted downloads.sqlite.

  • How do I disable all add-ons so add-on pop-ups do not occur in Firefox?

    Hello Don.
You can access the add-on manager by going into Tools > Add-ons. It's the Extensions tab you want, most likely, since plugins and themes tend not to make popups appear.
If you want to disable the automatic update of add-ons, simply go into Tools > Options > Advanced > Updates and untick "Add-ons".

  • Firefox keeps crashing outside safe mode (resetting, uninstalling-reinstalling, & disabling all add-ons do not help)

I have actually been having this issue for over a year now with the previous versions. The browser always crashes right after I start it, but it seems work well in safety mode. I have tried resetting the Firefox, disabling all the add-ons in safety mode, and reinstalling the application, but none of these methods seem to work. Here are the crash reports I have after I installed the newest version tonight:

  • Slow scrolling with all add-ons and extensions disabled, but OK is safe mode

I have a page for work, with a lot of links, that scrolls very slowly, with a choppy action. It is the same with all add-ons and extensions disabled. But when restarted in safe mode, the scrolling is OK.
What else does the safe mode block? Or what could be the problem.

In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
    Try to disable hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.
