Hello sallay Amir,
Thanks for participating in the Apple Support Communities.
It sounds like you would like to erase your MacBook Pro and install a new copy of OS X, but the Mac does not boot to OS X Recovery when you hold the Command + R keys during startup.
If your Mac came with OS X Snow Leopard (10.6) or earlier, I recommend referring to the steps in this article:
Mac OS X v10.6 Snow Leopard: How to Erase and Install - Apple Support
For a newer Mac (OS X Lion, Mountain Lion, Mavericks or Yosemite), try reinstalling OS X by using Internet Recovery, as described in the "OS X Internet Recovery" section on this page:
OS X: About OS X Recovery - Apple Support
All the best,
Jeremy

  • I want to factory reset my MacBook Pro to delete EVERYTHING in there and start from scratch but it won't work! HELPP!

I have  a MacBook Pro and I have A LOT of files in there which I don't need anymore. And it's too much to sit and do it one by one so I want to completely reset it to factory settings. I tried booting it from the OS X CD by holding C during startup but it won't work. It just gets stuck on the white or gray screen with the apple logo. Nothing else. I'm assuming that it's because the software version on the Mac is 10.6.8 but the boot disk I'm using is 10.6.3? But I'm not sure.
I also tried booting the CD with holding the option key and choosing the disk, same problem.
Opening Disk Utility while regularly logged in, won't let me delete.
Also tried changing the setting of what to boot in on startup, still gets frozen on the apple logo.
Please what can I do to fix this and delete everything?
    Thank you in advance!

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
"C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

how do i factory reset my macbook pro with no start disk

See -> How to prepare your Mac for sale. I don't know that you're selling your machine, but following the instructions will get you back to a 'factory reset'.
Note that if your MacBook Pro came with installation discs, you'll need to call Apple and order a replacement set for your specific model...

    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Unfortunately, if Apple simply allowed people to log into different accounts and download content, everyone would be using everyone could share everyone else's content and bypass the need to purchase anything. To protect against this, they limit you to logging into a new account to once every 90 days.
If two or more of you, have different accounts and use only one computer, you should each have your own user account on the computer, to avoid the need to log in and out of iTunes.

This is a copy of ONEof the keys  in the registry I changed  as told by Apple support today. I also have changed others as instructed by GEAR  software support to manually delete GEAR drivers (that I had installed but couldn't delete some of the others  they mentioned from Windows system 32. Then some bright spark at work told me I need the Gear drivers so  I downloaded the software and installed again.
Sorry, just this minute went to insert image  and it is giving me a message saying this sort of content  is not allowed?.
The most recent key I altered is in: HKey _local _machine. System\class - 4D36E965-E325-11CEBFC1-08002BE10318. Upper Filter data: Upper filter NTIDrvr  SiRem GEARAspiWDN.

I am being told there are only certain year Macbook Pro that will run this programme.
I know I need 8gb, can anyone give me advice on what to buy/look for please?

It appears to depend upon the version you will be using:
    http://avid.force.com/pkb/articles/en_US/Compatibility/en352429
Based on what I can tell, you may have to go to the second hand market in order to get a MBP that will run a compatible OSX.

  • How do I factory reset my Macbook Pro and then restore using my time machine back up?

    Hey guys,
My Macbook Pro has slowed down & had more and more random crashed recently and a friend suggested doing a factory reset. My Macbook is about 3 1/2 years old now so it's about time I did something and this always used to work for me on PC's.
I've kept a completely up to date time machine back-up since day 1 (I'll do another immediately before the reset.) and would rather use that to restore all my files. Will I have to reinstall all my apps with this? (Thats fine if I do, it would just be nice to know first) How do I do the factory reset & how to I restore from time machine afterwards.
    Many Thanks
    MegaBeaker

First obtain an external hard drive to back up to. Go to your system preferences and look under Time Machine. Select your external hard drive as your backup drive then start a full backup.  Then follow these steps provided by Apple:
In the menu bar, choose Apple menu > Restart. Once your Mac restarts (and the gray screen appears), hold down the Command and R keys.
Select Disk Utility, then click Continue.
Select your startup disk on the left, then click the Erase tab.
Choose Mac OS Extended (Journaled) from the Format menu, enter a name, then click Erase.Important:   Erasing the disk removes all the information from the disk. Be sure to back up the information you want to keep to an external device.
After the disk is erased, choose Disk Utility > Quit Disk Utility.
Select Reinstall OS X, click Continue, then follow the onscreen instructions.

  • Factory reset my macbook pro?

Hi! So my macbook pro has been bugging out on me a lot lately. The screen will shut off randomly and i'll have to shut it down and restart it to use it, and it will come up with a message that says the computer restarted becasue of a problem. I tried bringing it into an apple store but they didn't offer much help, and said to send it to apple.  Well, I'm off to college in 10 days so I don't have time to send it and get it back.  I'm hoping a factory reset will help, since it always did with my HP laptop, and I have a external drive to save all my files.  How do I preform one keeping in mind that when I got the computer it had snow leapord (or something) and I downloaded Lion from the apple store.  I want to make sure that I have Lion after the factory reset without having to pay for it again.  Thanks for your help!

Install or Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion from Scratch
Be sure you backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive because the following procedure will remove everything from the hard drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion/Mountain Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You will need an active Internet connection. I suggest using Ethernet if possible because it is three times faster than wireless.

  • Factory resetting a macbook pro 13" 2012 model with 10.9.4 OS running

Hi. I have a macbook pro 13" 2012 model with 10.9.4 OS running. I want to restore it back to factory settings. I tried the command   R at the boot but after downloading the os through internet, it does not allow me to install it. The error is shown that i have a newer os and cannot install it to the older one. So is there any other way to do this?
Also when i use the option key at boot up it shows Recovery 10.9 and when i click on that the mac shuts down, every time.
    Thanks.

Boot into Internet Recovery mode, ⌘⌥+R, select Disk Utility, and erase and reformat the HD, quit Disk Utility, and restore the OS. That should put the OS the machine shipped with on the HD.

  • Factory reset a MacBook pro 13

When I first setup my MacBook Pro, I used my husbands apple id.  Now it has his name all over it.  I signed him out and setup a new apple id for me.  It still has his name on some stuff.  Is there any way to factory reset or just get his name off of it?

Look to the right at the column More Like This at other posts with similar issues and how they solved it. You need to set up your own Apple ID. Realize that you are posting in this forum using your hubby's.

    Prepare Your Mac for Sale
Boot from the OS X Installer Disc One that came with the computer.  After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button.  When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.  After DU loads select the startup volume from the left side list then click on the Erase tab.  Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled) then click on the Options button.  Select the one pass Zero Data option and click on the OK button.  Then click on the Erase button.
Note: You can skip the Zero Data option if you are not concerned about removing sensitive personal data from the hard drive.  If you choose to skip this part of the process then it is possible for others to recover data from the hard drive.  The Zero Data procedure will prevent others from getting access to your personal information.
This process will take 30 minutes to several hours depending upon the size of the hard drive.  After formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Now complete the OS X installation.  At the completion of the installation do not restart the computer.  Instead just shut it off.  The next user will be presented with the Setup Assistant when they turn on the computer just as it would if new out of the box.
If your computer came with Lion pre-installed, the do the following:
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.

  • I just reset my macbook pro , but I can't download MAC OSX Mavericks

I got a used macbook pro 2011 version, it had a admin password so I reset it and erased the hard drive, I tried to reinstall mac osx mavericks but its says I needed my app store account to download it, I signed in but now it says that I never downloaded Mavericks

You'll neeed to install the version of OS X that your Mac shipped with before you can use you own Apple ID to install Mavericks.
Boot using Internet Recovery - holding down the command, option and R keys whilst booting. You'll be booting from Apple's servers and it will take awhile to get to the Recovery screen (you'll see a globe when you're first connecting to the Apple servers - then you'll finally get to the Recovery screen).
Once at the Recovery screen, use Disk Utility to erase the hard drive. After the hard drive is prepped, use Install OS X to install the version that shipped with your machine (unless it shipped with Snow Leopard in chkech case you should have discs). After you boot to Lion (? hopefully) you can sign onto the Mac App Store and download and install Mavericks using your own Apple ID.
The only problem I forsee is if you have an Early 2011 model that shipped with Snow Leopard. If that's the case you're going to have to call Apple and, with your serial number handy, order a set of machine-specific discs.
Give Internet Recovery a try, though.
