I'm having to guess at which iMac you have. This forum covers three older variants of the iMac family that were made from 1998-2005 with three different processor types.
If yours has a G-series processor, it can run neither Lion 10.7 nor Snow Leopard 10.6. If the processor is a G5 or a G4 (must be faster than 867mHz( you can install Leopard 10.5. If your plan is to reinstall the OS before turing over the computer, let us know which iMac you have (doing "About this Mac" from the Apple menu will give the processor type--that will do for this purpose)
If "About this Mac" says you have an Intel processor, you have a much newer iMac. Let us know and I can ask the Hosts to move it to that separate forum.
If you wish to maintain control over the computer, you can go to System Preferences > Accounts and set up a new standard account. The user logged into that acct can pretty much use anything installing in that account but cannot install new software or modify the system. That means less chance of something bad getting on the computer but also means they wil be asking you to help install stuff as they won't have access.
If you wish to give the kids full control, set up a new account with admin priveleges, then either strip content form your account and leave it, or simply delete it once you are satisfied that the new accout is working.

As a start open iChat if it will launch
Go to the iChat Menu (The menu for the App)
Select Preferences > Accounts
Bonjour is always in this List
Highlight the name you entered incorrectly and then use the minus button at the bottom to delete it.

I ordered a cable card (from Verizon) to use with "Hauppauge WinTV DCR-2650 Dual Tuner Cable Card Tuner" and a PC running Windows 7 Media Center (it passed the test.)
My question is, do I need to order a tuner adapter (not sure what this is) to make my setup work?

Most of the times, when you spill liquid on a computer, something gets damaged. It may the keyboard, it may the trackpad or it may the logic board. In your case, I hope that only the keyboard got damaged, because the logic board is the most expensive part of the MacBook, as near everything is soldered onto the logic board.
I recommend you to make a backup of your data and take the computer to an Apple Store or reseller to get it diagnosed and repaired. It's probable that your computer will stop working soon because of the water, if it got onto your logic board -

To further identify the iBook G4 may help to discover if the computer has issues, or if the DVD install disc (or CDs, if early model) are good, is one of the first items to consider. To be sure what we're looking at...
Do you have access to the serial number* of the computer? It may be on the outside of the case in hard-to-read lettering by the model number & where it says Apple Computer, usually nearer the hinge where the display attaches to the bottom case.
With that, you could *lookup the build model year and original specs as shipped from a site such as this: http://www.powerbookmedic.com/identify-mac-serial.php
This would tell quite a bit. You could also enter a model or sales order number in such a search to see if it comes up with information; but that would be wide and not conclusive to find what One you have... which may be this one: An Early 2004 model.

•At what point does the iBook G4 fail to utilize the install-restore DVD or CD disc? Do you hold C key down on startup with the disc already in the optical drive bay? Is the power adapter attached since you don't want to rely on questionable battery reserves when attempting to diagnose, test, repair, or install software.
What other computer are you using to be online, and does it have a FireWire port? This could be used to troubleshoot the other computer in Target Disk Mode, at least see if the hard disk drive is OK or not. A second computer may also be able to test that iBook HDD to see if it is repairable.

The install-restore disc may have the build number (7G51) on Disc #1.
The Panther OS X 10.3.x disc, is that a grey-label one? There are numbers and other information on those to be able to identify what else is important to know, such as the computer they were intended for; not all grey install discs 'for iBook' will work, as each build series and model year had changes, & often different discs.
Older portable computers are tough on hard disk drives, so that one may be worn and unstable, failing, etc.
Anyway, more information is needed in order to decide what one could do in that matter, and what you know about troubleshooting, and if the Panther disc is a grey one, if the computer is the correct one for the Disc, etc. I think the info I have from MacTracker is close to what you have...
Hopefully you can verify some information
where the most I can do is try & guess...
