I want to get Windows 8 for my MacBook Pro (late 2011) using Boot Camp, but I have lost my installation disk for my windows. What should I do?

Please hep me.

I am fine byuying a copy of WIndows 8 but where would I buy it? Also I was wondering wether I would be able to do this without using a disk, solely online, because my boot camp says insert disk.

Could it be a borked cable ? I just bought it new from the store today, i have updated both imac and macbook pro to latest thunderbolt firmware and updates. Both 10.7.3.

You are correct, here is what Apple Says:

I was able to find these instructions, however they referr to 2009-2011 27" iMacs. I think it's the same, if it's not then contact Apple directly for instructions. If either of the machines is less than 90 days old or covered by AppleCare then call AppleCare tomorrow for help, they should be able to easily answer this for you. You will find the number in your manual or you can use the AppleCare Contact Info link.
Your iMac should automatically recognize the presence of a digital video signal at the Mini DisplayPort and enter Target Display Mode.
If your iMac does not automatically enter Target Display Mode, press command + F2 to manually enter Target Display Mode.

  • HT1237 Macbook pro late 2011 latest 1.69f3 but I have 1.69f4 installed....

    Hi,
    Model: Macbook pro 15 inch Late 2011 2.4 i7
    Software: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Last week I had the BSOD..... Tried everything what apple suggests, tried everything what google suggests.... Nothing.
I decided to recover from last Time Machine.... Problem only appears when Macbook gets very hot and fans aren't cooling!
Then decided to reinstall clean OS. Until now no problem.....
From my investigation from Apple forums I understand that what controls the FAN's and hardware etc., for this to work correctly I must have latests EFi and SMC updates.
    Problem:
In the lists of SMC updates: EFI and SMC firmware updates for Intel-based Macs states that My macbook pro Late 2011 (MacBookPro8,2) has to have: 1.69f3 (SMC 1.5) but what I have now installed is: 1.69f4 (SMC 1.7)
So what? I have a incorrect version on my mac? Do I have to (seems to be) downgrade to: 1.69f3 (SMC 1.5) ??

If you look at that listing, there are two MacBook Pro8,2 machines, the Early and Late 2011, and the SMC firmware specified is not the same...you have the SMC firmware that table lists for the Early 2011...it is likely the table has not been updated properly since the servers that download the SMC firmware look at the machine serial number and install the appropriate firmware for that machine.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Installing window 7 to macbook pro late 2011

I am trying to install Windows 7  to a Macbook Pro (late 2011). I got this far: After downloading Bootcamp 5 and going into Bootcamp assistant and clicking both, a) Download the latest windows support software from Apple, &  b) install Windows 7 or later version.
NEXT: Installed external 8G usb drive for Windows support software to download to
NEXT: In about 10 seconds it downloads then never moves on the "visual" download scale????????   THIS IS WHERE I GET STUCK
ANY HELP WOULD GREATLY BE APPRECIATED

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
As it looks like you can't download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant, download it at the Apple site > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638 Follow the steps to burn it to the USB drive.
Then, open Boot Camp Assistant and install Windows. Don't mark the option to download the Windows support software

It is taking me so long to find a 16GB memory by hynix (8X2) to install in my Macbook Pro late 2011 . 2.4 GHz Intel Core i7 . 1333MHz DDR3 .
Need a to upgrade and i think that i need a 204PINN SODIMM
    DDR#-PC3-10600 .cl9 Unbeffered.NON - ECC 1.35V.1024MegX64.
Please correct me if I am wrong . And if you can assist me where to get it Or maybe SAMSUNG Memory .,Either one is Good but do not Prefere ather kinds.
    Best regards to all.

I actually prefer Crucial - I have the same model as you, but I've 16GB of Corsair in my machine. Had I to do it over again, I'd buy Crucial (particulary now that the prices have come down).
Go to the Crucial website and use the System Scanner tab - it will let you know your upgrade options. Your machine, like mine, uses  204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMMs. I don't know a thing about Hynix, but Samsung is good as well - I just prefer dealing with Mac specialists.

  • New Macbook Pro -- How to use boot camp?

Okay, so, let me preface this by saying that I've had about 4 different Intel macs now and have installed windows without a problem on all of them. But this new Macbook Pro that I JUST GOT earlier today is really proving difficult.
First question: I own both Windows XP Professional and Windows 7. I'd prefer to install with Windows XP, but whenever I used Boot Camp Assistant to install windows xp, the xp cd had trouble loading and I was never unable to install it. When I tried Windows 7, it worked perfectly fine. Is the new boot camp incapable of installing older versions of Windows or something?
Secondly: After successfully installing Windows 7 Ultimate onto my new Macbook Pro via Boot Camp Assistant, I'm having some trouble loading the drivers. On my past mac computers, I had to load my Mac OS X install disc into my disc drive while on the windows partition and simply run the program "setup.exe".
But now, when I do that, I have the option of installing mac os x on the computer (which I already have on another partition and is not something that I want to do) or installing some sort of dvd file sharing software or something? How do I download the Apple Drivers onto my Windows 7 partition?
    Thank you!

    Hi,
Windows Xp and Vista are no longer supported on the 2011 MacBook Pros, Only Windows 7 http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4410
As for the second part, are you really using the OSx Install DVD that came with your new MBP for the Driver installation ?
The trouble you describe is usually shown when using another OSX disc than the machine-specific-one.
    Regards
    Stefan

  • Trying to install Windows 7 to Macbook Pro (late 2011)

    1)  Have installed bootcamp 5
    2)  when I attempt to download "Windows Support" to 8g usb, after 20 min. it says "can't download windows support software

        NEED HELP, THANKS IN ADVANCE

Sometimes it's not possible to download the Windows support software from Boot Camp Assistant. In that case, you have to download the drivers from the Apple site.
If you are trying to install a 64-bit Windows 7 edition, you have to download this Windows support software > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1638?viewlocale=en_US&locale=en_US Follow the steps of the website to burn it to your USB drive. Then, install it after installing Windows 7 in the MacBook Pro
If you are trying to install a 32-bit Windows 7 edition, you have to download > http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1630

  • Help! MacBook Pro Late 2011 Not Charging

My MacBook Pro Late 2011 is Not Charging. I have tried plugging it into multiple outlets and none have succeeded. He is a screenshot of my System Information>Power: http://grab.by/tkOM. I have no clue what happened. Last night we had a massive storm, but I don't believe there was any thunder or lightning. Whenever I plug the adapter into an outlet, the battery usage in the top right hand corner shows the "plugged in" icon, then it shows the "charging" icon. Then it just goes blank and back to normal. I have tried to restart it and do the SMC or whatever, but nothing seems to work. I have had this charger for a little bit over 1 year. Thanks in advance!

    Hey Angelo_here,
    I'd run through these steps:
If your computer won't turn on, try each of these steps:
Verify you have a good connection from your Mac to the wall outlet by confirming the power cord and adapter if present are securely connected and plugged in. To check if the wall outlet is working, plug in a lamp or other electrical device.
If the wall outlet is working and you continue to have no power try another power cord or adapter if available. If it works you may need a replacement cord or adapter.
Note: See Apple Portables: Troubleshooting MagSafe adapters for further troubleshooting with MagSafe adapters.
Disconnect all accessories that are plugged in to the computer, such as a printer, hub, or other mobile device.
If your Mac supports user-installable memory, solid state drive, or hard drive, and you recently installed any of these, make sure they are installed correctly and are compatible with your computer. If possible, reinstall the original memory or drive into the computer to find out if the behavior persists afterwards.

  • Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Which model of memory upgrade should I get for my MacBook Pro early 2011 model? I now have 2 - 2GB modules.

Installing RAM in a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro
There is really only one way to install RAM into a 2011-2012 MacBook Pro and while there are hundreds of DIY videos online, I just like this one, found on YouTube, by “macmixing”.
Note that there is a difference in the RAM that should be used in 2011 and 2012 models.
    2011 models must use:
    •204-pin PC-10600 (1333 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    And 2012 models must use:
    •204-pin PC3-12800 (1600 MHz) DDR3 SO-DIMM
    So here's the video:
Remember that the 13", 15" and 17" 2011 models (early or late) and the 13" and 15" mid-2012 non-Retina models can handle 4GB, 8GB or (unofficially, but, believe me, it works) 16GB of RAM. There are, in my opinion, only two 100% Mac-compatible vendors out there: Crucial and OWC. I really can't recommend any other brands, even though it may work, as these are the only brands that I've personally used in quite a while. Also remember to stay away from any RAM that is a “value” brand - Macs are picky about RAM and often these value RAM modules just don’t work very well.
    Good luck,
    Clinton
