I have a macbook pro with OSX 10.9.3 and Safari 7.0.4. How do I remove BING FROM SEARCHING when i type something into the search bar

See below if the search engine setting was changed without your knowledge and you can't change it back.
You installed the "Genieo/InstallMac" rootkit. The product is a fraud, and the developer knowingly distributes an uninstaller that doesn't work. I suggest the tedious procedure below to disable Genieo. This procedure may leave a few small files behind, but it will permanently deactivate the rootkit (as long as you never reinstall it.)
Malware is constantly changing to get around the defenses against it. The instructions in this comment are valid as of now, as far as I know. They won't necessarily be valid in the future. Anyone finding this comment a few days or more after it was posted should look for more recent discussions or start a new one.
Back up all data. You must know how to restore from a backup even if the system becomes unbootable. If you don't know how to do that, or if you don't have any backups, stop here and ask for guidance.
    Step 1
In the Applications folder, there may (or may not) be an application named "Genieo". Genieo may be partially installed even if this item is absent. If it's present, select it and open the Finder Info window. If it shows that theVersion is less than 2.0, download and install the current version from the genieo.com website. This may seem paradoxical, since the goal is to remove it, but you'll be saving yourself some trouble as well as the risk of putting the system in an unusable state.
There should be another application in the same folder named "Uninstall Genieo". After updating Genieo, if necessary, launch "Uninstall Genieo" and follow the prompts to remove the "newspaper-style home page." Restart the computer.
This step does not completely inactivate Genieo.
    Step 2
Don't take this step unless you completed Step 1, including the restart, without any error messages. If you didn't find the Genieo application, or if you couldn't complete Step 1 for any reason, stop here and ask for instructions.
Triple-click anywhere in the line below on this page to select it:
    /Library/Frameworks/GenieoExtra.framework
Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
    from the contextual menu.
If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
    Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.
A folder should open with an item named "GenieoExtra.framework" selected. Move that item to the Trash. You'll be prompted for your administrator password.
Move each of these items to the Trash in the same way:
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.engine.plist
    /Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.plist
    /Library/LaunchDaemons/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client.plist
    /Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/com.genieoinnovation.macextension.client
    /usr/lib/libgenkit.dylib/usr/lib/libgenkitsa.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckit.dylib
    /usr/lib/libimckitsa.dylib~/Library/Application Support/com.genieoinnovation.Installer~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.download.plist
    ~/Library/LaunchAgents/com.genieo.completer.update.plist
If there are other items with a name that includes "Genieo" or "genieo" alongside any of those listed above, move them as well. There's no need to restart after each one. Some of these items will be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
Restart and empty the Trash. Don't try to empty the Trash until you have restarted.
    Step 3
From the Safari menu bar, select
    Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including ones called "Genieo" or "Omnibar," and any that have the word "Spigot" or "InstallMac" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
Your web browser(s) should now be working, and you should be able to reset the home page and search engine. If not, stop here and post your results.
Make sure you don't repeat the mistake that led you to install this software. Chances are you got it from an Internet cesspit such as "Softonic" or "CNET Download." Never visit either of those sites again. You might also have downloaded it from an ad in a page on some other site. The ad has a large green button labeled "Download" or "Download Now" in white letters. The button is designed to confuse people who intend to download something else on the same page. If youever download a file that isn't obviously what you expected, delete it immediately.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the Genieo developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
Finally, be forewarned that when Genieo is mentioned on this site, the perpetrator of the scam sometimes shows up under the name "Genieo support." He will tell you to run the provided uninstaller. As he knows and intends, the uninstaller does not completely remove the malware.

  • I want to get a macbook pro...but

Almost a year ago i bought a late 2009 white MacBook. My mothers PC is slowly passing away so I decided i would give her my MacBook and just get a macbook pro. The problem is, i feel like any day now apple is going to come out with their updated Macbook Pros and therefor I would get more for my money. Any input/suggestions would be helpful thanks!!!

Two months after I got my early 2009 15" MBP, the new MBPs came out in June.
Am I sorry? Not at all. I had two months of wonderful use out of a very great machine prior to the new releases. It is still going strong and runs as well as those new ones. Not only that, but when the new ones came out, the 15" dropped two very important items that I use every day - the removable battery, and the ExpressCard slot. I can tell you that I would have been disappointed to have waited for the new ones only to find out that some functionality was gone!
Moral here? New does not necessarily mean better!
I would give you one piece of advice further than what's already been given in this thread... go ahead and buy now, but also buy the most computer you can afford when you do buy it - fastest, most RAM, biggest hard drive you can budget for - so that your machine will stay competitive and functional long after you purchase it. I bought the very top-end MBP available at the time, and after the new models came out, the clock speed and RAM on mine were identical to the new lineup, so mine performs just as fast as those new ones do.
It is VERY very good advice to just buy one when you need it and not worry about waiting. Who ever knows when a company will announce a new lineup or when they won't? And I promise you, six months after you buy yours even if you DO wait, something bigger and better will come out anyway. In the meantime, you will have missed a lot of use and productivity you could have had by just getting one when you wanted to.
    Just my 2 cents,
    Raji

  • HT3964 connected new external monitor to macbook pro, was working but now have no power, black screen in laptop. monitor purchased with advice from tech and set up also. Worked fine for an hour and then quit

Have just connected a viewsonic external monitor to macbook pro 10.6.8, had everything up and running fine for about an hour then the macbook quit. No power (ws running off power source) Have I killed my macbook? Help!

    Aha, all is good.
    I went to Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
    and to home/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/Displays
and deleted all SyncMaster.icc files. I did leave behind one SyncMaster file in the home/../Displays which had an old date and I new was ok.
Rebooted, plugged in SyncMaster, and a new icc file was automatically created in the /Library/../Displays folder.
    My display works normally, now.

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook pro ram

I want to upgrade my MacBook pro 17'' ram. I have 2X2 GB 1066 MHz and I want to go to 2X4GB but I can't find any with 1066 MHz I found only 1333 MHz. Will it work on my MacBook pro late 2009 unibody 3,06 Ghz Core 2 Duo

do not use anything other than the exact specs.
It MAY work with the 1333MHz (the 1333 will be downclocked) but you will have problems VERY probably.
You have to replace the 2X2 with 2X4.
Buy the best there is: Crucial, OWC: the price is very low. And yes the right spec is for sale everywhere.
Find a respectable internet seller in your area, and buy it: but research the Crucial and/or OWC sites for the exact specification, they have configurators where you put in your computer model.
Replacing is easy, you have to have the right screwdriver, there are 3 screws that are longer, remember where they are.

  • HT1349 should i give my macbook pro serial number to my employer

should i give my macbook pro serial number to my employer

If your employer bought it, it is theirs and they have a right to request what they want (e.g., for inventory purposes).  If you bought it, it is yours.  You can then decide if it is in your interest to let them know the serial number.  I don't know your work environment but if somebody from IT came by would it make sense they be able to uniquely identify it as belonging to you?

  • I want to buy a macbook pro

    Basically starting uni in september.
want to buy a macbook pro as i understand they are awesome? dont want the air as the pro is much better performance i understand.
basically do the prices stay the same and my budget is around the £1.1k mark so im looking at the 13inch 2.8ghz version.
will they release new versions this year and if so do prices usually rise etc?
    a little advice is appreciated.
    thanks

The MBPs have maintained a price structure for a couple years, with changes occuring at intervals within those prices.  That means, the high end 15" has gone through three processor upgrades since last summer and one secondary graphic processor.  If you look at the 13" that is at your price point today, more than likely by next summer it will have a faster processor at that same price.  And the current processor may no longer be available.
So if you have a fixed amount of money to spend, consider holding off until it is closer to the time you will be going to the university as you will be able to buy more computing power for the money.
No one knows exactly what changes there will be, just the history of these things gives clues as to what will happen qualitatively.

i just bought a panasonic  50" plasma tv model TC-P50X3 and i want to connect my macbook pro with my new ty how do i do that?

Assuming your MBP is a recent model, i.e. bought in the last couple of years, and that your TV has HDMI inputs (if you've bought it new then that's a safe assumption) then you need a mini-displayport to HDMI cable.  The Apple Store sell one:

There are a couple of other pay-for apps that do this, but they're not as good... some people have had success.

  • Please help: I want to mirror my MacBook pro with my HDTV.  I realize I need to switch on my Mirroring Icon BUT I cannot find the icon on my menu bar or in the Display section of my System preferences.  Is it possible to get the Icon on my screen somehow?

I want to mirror my MacBook Pro's screen to my HDTV.  I had it at one time by clicking the Mirror Icon on my upper menu bar but I do not have it any more?
What am I missing?  In the System Perferences the display menu seems incomplete.  There is no where in there to set my MacBook Pro to mirroring.
    Can someone please help me?
I would apprecate any help I get.
    Thanks

The mirroring selection is in the "Arrangement" tab and only shows up on the MacBook Pro LCD, not the external display.

I gave my old MacBook Pro away and no longer have access to it. I didn't think to deauthorize it first. I DO NOT want it to have access to all music in my iCloud or any music that may have been downloaded sinceI gave away the computer. It now belongs to my teenage daughter, who has since been in my WI-FI area and knows that code. I had EVERYTHING removed from the computer before I gave it to her (long story), but since I hadn't deauthorized the Mac,I'm assuming even without the itunes password the iCloud material would had loaded onto her computer. My iCloud had somehow included personal voice mails under Unknown Artist that I did not want on there or shared. How can I deauthorize the Mac Laptop without having the machine available to do it on? Change the iTunes/iCloud password? I should now have my desktop computer, new PC (Aspire) laptop,Ipod Touch, and if possible my Evo 3D as well as my boyfriend's Samsung smartphone being able to access the iCloud account/library--whatever it is called. HELP

Thanks, I appreciate the help.  I think this is one of the problems Apple is creating by changing the OS so often. I had fomer colleagues at [a major aerospace contractor] who told me that so many original files were ultimately lost because of the deadly change in the "Save As" operation that they are now afraid of every OS update. Apple has badly damaged their support base with that very prominent company (they won't update now until they've fully examined and understand changes in the pre-conditioned nature of OS computer functions), and they are a whole lot less enthaled with Mac-related equipment/software. Can't blame them, I too used orginal files that way (as easy-to-use templates), and lost some important files before I realized what was happening (to late to revert). Companies should not have to retrain employees each time an OS gets an update, it's can be very expensive several different ways. They learned a painful lesson with that one. And because I'm now retired and don't use multiple devices, I need iCloud like I need a hole in the head... but I'm told there's no way to keep Apple out of my computer. Fortunately, because of major problems when initially installing Mountain Lion, one hold-over of the hardware/software damage I experienced was that iCloud can no longer access my computer even though everything else is working fine again. That was the only "good luck" I had as a result of that expensive nightmare.

Nobody in these forums represents Apple or any store.  So to find out whether you can buy something, you must contact stores or consult their websites directly yourself.   If not available in the online store, try contacting a retail store and see if they can make a special order

If these do not resolve the issue or if you are not comfortable with proceeding through these steps then take your Mac to an Apple store or an Apple Authorized Service Provider.  An Apple store will perform these initial steps, diagnose the problem, and give an estimate for repairs (if needed).  If the Mac is less than one year old or is covered by AppleCare any repairs would be free.
