I want to go Wireless for my PowerMac G5

AirPort Extreme with Bluetooth 2.0+EDR card
Now I know I need this thing above. But where can I still buy it?
Does anyone know. I'd like to pick up wireless signals, have wireless keyboard and mouse. Thanks!!!

Hi-
Also, can I do it myself? I installed my own hard drive and RAM memory. How much harder could it be?
It's a bit more challenging than that. Read the posts on this page and see if that sounds like something that you want to tackle.
Remember, that you will need a "runway card" in addition to the airport/bluetooth module.

Hello bauwerkz. Welcome to the Apple Discussions!
If I already have a desktop PC wired thru my DSL modem and I want add wireless for my new MacBook what's the simplest hardware solution? Airport Express/Extreme?
The 802.11n AirPort Extreme Base Station (AEBSn) which will provide both wired and wireless access to existing devices.

  • I have two time capsules (1TB, 2TB) and want to use one for another set of Macs (my Family). How do I set both up and keep all the Macs from joining both Time Capsules?

I Have two Time Capsules (1TB and 2TB) and want to set one for business and the other for family - networking seperate Macs to each.

Both should be plugged into the network with ethernet.. if at all possible.
If you have a router already then both bridged otherwise one set to router and one to bridge.
How do you access the TC? Ethernet or wireless?
Are they located in the same area?
You could set different wireless networks.. if they use wireless.. this is nice easy way to do it.
You can set user account in the TC you want the business one to join with.. that will prevent access by the family.
So there is a number of ways.. none are particularly secure btw.. the TC is a home not a business device.. if anybody wants access they press the reset for one second.. pofff all the passwords are default for 5min.. to allow people who forget their password to get access.
On ML you can encrypt TM backups.. this is better for security if that is the problem.. and still use different user profile to prevent access.

  • How can I tell if my computer is using ethernet or wireless for downloads?

    Hi,
My computer is hooked up via ethernet to my router (base station) which is connected to my DSL modem, and I also have my Airport on because I have extended my network with an airport express so I can stream music to my stereo across the room using iTunes.
I've noticed in the Airport menu that my computer is connected also to my wireless network which I use for getting online with my iPad.
Can I assume that my computer will use ethernet and NOT wireless for accessing the internet, downloading files, etc?
How can I tell which network connection is being used? Are there tools for monitoring the network that would allow me to easily determine if a particular download is going over the ethernet or the wireless connection?
Clearly, I want to use the hard line ethernet connection for everything and use the wifi only for my streaming music function for speed purposes...
    Thanks!!!!
    Elisabeth

    Hi,
Internet is served on the priority basic from the System Prefrences Network pane.
If ethernet is on top you getting it from ethernet if Airport and so on...
So depending on internet speeds set the priority to access fast internet speeds.

    Hi,
Which type of connection you want to use ? Which tabs are you talking about ? I could not find full specs of your printer, how old is it ? Do you use a wireless network at home ? As mentioned above, I don't know your existing hardware therefore you need to check the book and select a suitable connection first.
    Regards.

The next thing is to look in the manual that accompanied the printer for how to use the wireless setup wizard!

Just wanted to say thanks for fixing Verizon cloud which has been malfunctioning for some time. I spent some time with one of your techs. earlier today trying to fix the problem. It was then I learned it wasn't my problem but a system glitch. So thanks again for fixing the problem not too many hours after that.

  • Wireless for everyone......

    Hi there,
We will start a project at our company that customers coming to us will have the possibilite to surf to the internet with their own laptops. What we would like to do is that this network will be in a seperated dmz and we would like that the traffic will be automaticaly redirected to our proxyserver to filter out some bad websites. (We do not want that people will surf to strange websites inside our building).
A third requirment we would like to put in place is that people if they connect to the wireless and want to surf, they will be redirected at a special website where they have first to authenticate with a one-time password and this password would then allow them to surf for an hour or so.....i think something could be done with 802.1x but i am not realy sure about this....
Thanks for your input and ideas
    cu yves

Are you saying you want to have 2 guest WLANs in addition to your trusted user WLAN? That's certainly possible, but it will depend on what you're using for the WLAN infrastructure and the internet access proxy functions. You don't mention what proxy server you have, but the first thing you need to think about for the DMZ'd WLAN is how you're going to ingress the traffic to the proxy from the DMZ. That could be via a seporate physical interface, or preferably a new VLAN on an 802.1q trunk. Apart from that, your normal proxy rules should be configurable however you want I'd think.
For the second WLAN that you're talking about, I think you'd need what I'd call a "forced portal". It's a bit like a proxy, but with more functions. Some proxies do web based authentication which is what you want, but you'd need to check your box. Typically, you'd expect to be doing this as a layer 3 web based authentication rather than an 802.1x, which occurs at layer 2 and is required before the user can even see a web page (i.e. when the radio signal is building). Furthermore, if you want time based access for your portal, you'll need to check it does that too. And, you'll need to think about how these "tokens" get issued. Somebody will have to be doing it as part of there job, unless you automated via a HTML page for the guest to fill in themselves.
One final point with guest access. A lot of people forget that you can't implement downstream QOS from your ISP (not AFAIK). What this means is that you need to accept the risk if you're going to share a corporate web connection with the guests that they might steal a big chunk of your bandwidth. There's lots of functions you can activate to cut back guest traffic levels upstream and downstream internally and on the DMZ. But when it comes in on your inbound web router, but if the inbound traffic is already loaded, dropping the packets at your local interface won't necasarily help! I'd always suggest running guest access up a different web connection to your corporate access.

  • Want to print wirelessly with iMac and Cannon Pixma MX870

I have airport turned on.  My printer software is loaded on my iMac.  Used to print via networking but want to print wirelessly now.  Both my iMac and my printer are connected wirelessly to my Bell 2WIRE Gateway interent modem.  Internet works fine.  Why can't I print?  Do I need to purchase Time Capsule or the Airport box to make this happen?  Helpless in Stonebridge

  • USB Wireless for IMAC 500 g3 recommendations (10.2)

I've been reading the posts on this issue; I have a G3 Imac 500 running 10.2 (w/o airport card) and I have a Airport Express running my new Intel Imac. I want my g3 wireless aswell but don't want to much much $ into it. Airport cards are way to expensive and I don't want another big device next to my G3, therefore I want to get an USB device. People are saying they aren't working that well, but if someone could recommend on that would work with my set up that would be great. If the device is available at larger retailers, I could always return it.
    Thanks

for get the USB go for an Either Net Brigde, Dlink make one that is cheap, however, programme the Dlink brige on the master account.
Hope this of help to you.
    Hey live long and Prosper.

Do you have a local network setup either wired or wireless? If so, then have both computers connected to the network. Enable File Sharing on both computers in Sharing preferences. Select the startup drive on each computer. Press COMMAND-I to open the Get Info window and check the box labeled, Shared Folder.
You can now keep both computers in sync by using a third-party backup/sync utility that will work with a network setup such as:
    Data Backup
    Deja Vu
    Silver Keeper
    Retrospect
    Super Flexible File Synchronizer
    Synchronize Pro! X
    Synk Pro
    Synk Standard
    Tri-Backup

  • I do not want to switch wireless networks

No, Airport Utility, I do not want to switch wireless networks to get my Time Capsule mounting again. This is because if I switch wireless networks, the network will go spinning its little time wheel of nothingness forever and ultimately report that it cannot find the Time Capsule it switched for. On the other hand, if I choose not to switch, it insists that there's nothing to be done with the Time Capsule that's right up top, all by itself, in the Airport wireless devices in the network.
All I want is for my Time Capsule to stop having these fits where it decides it won't join the network that already exists, that is already quite happy, and that it does not need to be the base station for. What is the problem that keeps making it go off into these fits where it won't join the network and won't let any network join it? And why does this keep happening? And what will stop it short of throwing the Time Capsule out the window?

Due to logistics, I attempted to configure via wireless connection. The AirPort utility recognized the AirPort Express only after I pressed the reset button on the Express. It then showed up and I went through the setup dialogs regarding joining an existing network (my Airport Extreme) which it found. I configured the Airport Express using no security, as I was not sure which to choose and I was told there was an issue with my older Mac and working with the newer security protocol. The dialog box indicated that the configuration was complete, "The settings for this Airport Express have been successfully updated.. You can close the window or wait for the Airport Express to restart." I waited for about 5 minutes and it did not restart. I then closed and reopened the AirPort utility and it indicated that it could not locate any wireless devices, neither of the AirPort devices showed up. I tried relaunching the AirPort Utility several time with the same results. I then rebooted my machine and launched the AirPort Utility; it identified my Airport Extreme but not the AirPort Express.
In order to connect via ethernet I would have to remove the AirPort Express from the location from which I intend to use it and connect it adjacent to my computer. What about losing or changing supposed retained settings by unplugging and moving each time? The ethernet connector currently runs between my cable modem and my AirPort extreme. This means getting a 2nd cable or disconnecting my AirPort Extreme to use the existing cable. Do I need to have this connected when trying to configure the AirPort Express? By turnoff the wireless I think you mean using the software to turn it off and not pulling the wireless card in my computer. I am a little confused why the AirPort Utility can only identify the AirPort Express only after I press the reset button on the Express.
    Thanks for your help.

  • Problems connecting with wireless for 2 years! please help!

I have had my mac for almost 2 years. When I first got it unfortunatley I did not have internet at home so I was stealing internet from my neighbor and it was working pretty good. I then got my internet back on after about a month of fighting with ATT because they wanted me to pay for a router. They gave us the same router a 2wire gateway 2701HG-B router (whatever that means). The wireless internet stoped working. I took the computer in they fixed it for a while by changing something. 4 months later it stopped working so I took it in again. They fixed it ... For a while. Then it stopped working.

If you have an history with this case, they may accept to do something even if warranty is over, but that's not for sure.
Does your wi-fi work on some other access points ? (neighbors, fast-foods...)
Usually, when this happens during warranty period, the machine is exchanged.
