I want to have an SSD (Solid State Drive) as the primary drive and a 1TB drive for storage.

Which HP laptops support this kind of 2 drive configuration?

All the computers with more than one drive bay. What kind of computer do you have? Is it a laptop or desktop? My Pavilion DV7 1285dx laptop has two drive bays and I'm running a Corsair 128gb SSD as the primary drive and the laptop's spinner drive as the backup. It works great.

hello everyone. I have recently installed a Samsung SSD (solid state hard drive) into my destop PC. For some reason Lightroom does not see it ? So i cannot ingest photos from it, or copy photos from a card to it. It is not listed as a drive option. LR sees every other drive. My computer sees it fine, so i was able to create a catalogue there. Im running windows 8.1. Any ideas ? I will also add that this drive became corrupt and was repaired by Samsung. Maybe they didn't do a very good job.. ..

Yes pretty much that, but to clarify sorry
    Opened Lightroom.
    Create new catalogue.
This opened the Windows 8 file explorer window and Windows recognises the drive. So I was able to create a catalogue there and save.
I then inserted my memory card into my card reader which LR recognised. I selected it, chose all the photos within and then navigated to the right side of the Lr import dialogue window to locate this problem drive as on this occasion i want the RAW files on the same drive as the lrcat. However all my other drives are listed but not this Samsung SSD.
In addition this Samsung SSD is not listed a drive to import from in the same dialogue window.

  • X200 SSD (Solid State Drive) with clean-install of Vista or XP?

    Hi all,
I apologize for starting a new thread on a new forum; however, I am running out of research time.
I am about to buy a X200 with the 64GB SSD (Solid State Drive) (and it needs to be bought by tomorrow Can I ask couple questions? :
    1) I am legally using this for business purposes with an MSDN license, so I can and will install any clean OS immediately. With the option to install any Windows OS; which will work best [or at all] with the SSD? (I have read conflicting articles, but most are outdated due to SSD's being so new.)
    2) With only the SSD and without a MediaBase, I read several guides such as This Thread on this Forum on how "fun" a clean install can be...are there any extra difficulties with the SSD?
I am a software engineer and would normally piece this together my research; however, I am running out of time before I have to decide if the SSD is a viable and installable option at this time (and if I should buy it!)
    Thanks a lot!

    Hello to all.
I'd like to know why AHCI mode is being suggested to use for SSD's?  Please tell me why. I just don't understand. I think using Raid 0 Array would be the better choice. How does AHCI mode vary compaired to Raid 0 ?  Is AHCI a better Mode? Does it give better performance then Raid 0?
I see alot of you are having problems setting up SSD's.  I have read the first thing you need to do is make sure the firmware on any SSD you use should be updated.
I also see a lot of people here talking about the need to install Raid drivers.  This is true with all other OS's, but I have found that after a fresh format, even on a new HD, I just installed Win 7 64 bit ultimate I went right into device manager to see what drivers are needed, & to my surprise all the drivers were already installed, including Raid driver & controller. I set up my Raid 0 Array at the F10 prompt, rebooted with OS disk with master drive after setting up boot sequence, & continued from there no problem with 2 150GB Raptor HD's in Raid 0.
I have gone as far as to use a Western Digital HD CD utility disc that has a write zero utility & used it to fast write zero's to the first 63 tracks & sectors including track 0 sector 0 where the MBR is written, & I've reformatted & reinstalled Win 7 from that point, & all the drivers still get auto installed. You can go right into device manager & see for your self. The only driver I ever need my be a sound driver update & Graphics driver.  I'm not forgetting that the drivers that are auto installed are generic & may need updating, but what I'm saying is, I haven't seen any yellow question marks or exclamation points in device manager like you do with other OS's before Win 7.

  • SSD (Solid State Drive) Upgrades and DV7 4280US

I am posting this as an FYI for anyone who is considering upgrading their DV7 or similar laptop with a SSD.
My experience with this has been somewhat difficult and I am hoping this will help.
I own a DV7-4280US laptop with 6GB of memory, i5 processor, and an 750 GB 5400rpm drive. I decided to put a OZC Vertex 2 120GB drive in it to replace the main drive. I decided to do a fresh install of the factory image directly to the new drive. This failed. I was able to run the HP recovery disks and get all the way through without an error, but was not able to boot. The system stated that there was no valid boot disk. I tried several times with different options and always got the same error message when I tried to boot from the SSD.
The solution for me was to use partition wizard home edition (http://download.cnet.com/Partition-Wizard-Home-Edition/3000-2094_4-10962200.html?tag=mncol;1) and to copy partition #1,2 and 4 over to the new drive (from my old drive in an external enclosure) resizing appropriately so the data all fit on the newer smaller drive. I was careful to make sure each partition was created as a primary partition not a logical one. I also had to make the first partition active as it contained the boot info for Win 7-64bit.
A note about partition size: before I copied the partitions over, I decided to uninstall some of the extra software I did not use that came from HP and a few that I had installed. I also deleted all of my temporary files and did a disk clean up. It is best to not fill your new SSD too quickly and to do as few writes as possible. It is the writing that consumes the drive over time and even if you copied the partition and then uninstalled and cleaned up you will have still consumed some of the life of your drive. I was able to trim my C: drive down to about 30 GB and have a lot of space left in the 111GB of that partition.
My guess is that the problem with the HP restore disks is that they for whatever reason did not set the first partition as active on the SSD. I have not been able to figure out why because they would do this correctly if it were any other type of drive. Maybe this is a bug with that restore program.
I also found that doing a fresh install of Win 7 form a microsoft disk works fine too.
I have been told by OCZ that if I have enough memory (4GB +) that I should set the page file to "No Paging File" in the advanced system settings. This will conserve the SSD as they have a limited number of writes and over time the page file will consume a good portion of it's life.
OCZ and Microsoft both recommended that I run the Windows Experience Index immediately after installing the SSD because it will turn off several prefetch and caching services that you will not need with your new SSD.
I have been super happy with my new SSD and am absolutely convinced that it is the very best upgrade you can do to speed up your system. My windows experience index went from 5.2 to 6.7 the disk is now rated at 7.6. Windows now loads in about 8 seconds and web pages are almost instantaneous. It is well worth the 200 I paid for the drive.

Hey...thanks for the information - I wish my search had come across your post earlier...it would have saved me a couple days of pulling my hair out!  I just bought a DV7-7298 (i7, 1T HDD, 12GB RAM, Win8 pre-installed) and similarly wanted to install an SSD (Intel 335 240GB).
The recovery disk option for intalling Win8 on the new drive got me nowhere at all - it would not boot except for once and I had no networking and major software installation issues which forced a reboot sequence and more terror...horribly frustrating and HP was absolutely no help.  I had a Windows 7 disk that I was able install on the SSD but no clean Win8 disk. I called Microsoft (who were quite helpful) - they were happy to allow me to download a fresh copy of Win8 with my existing Win8 Product Key...great, I thought...
With some aftermarket software I found the Win8 key which is attached electronically to the BIOS on these new machines - no more Product Key stickers on the bottom of our machines...the problem is that the OEM Key was not accepted by the Windows site to allow me to download the clean Win8 software...argh!  In the end, Microsoft helped again by agreeing to mail to me a Win8 install disk (which I though was decent of them)...not a quick solution, however.  In looking for solutions, I came across the Microsoft Win8 Pro upgrade offer ($40 until Jan. 31, 2013) - in order to potentially get this done, I decided to spend the $40 and get the upgrade which I downloaded and installed immediately...in the end?  Success!!  But not quite so fast...I had to install Windows7 on the SSD first in order to run the Win8Pro install which I'd put on the 1T drive that came with the machine - put it in an external drive...it installed without any issues.  I downloaded the drivers that Windows missed from the HP website and now have a slick, extremely fast notebook without all the bloatware...so sweet!
It is amazing just how fast these drives work - no regrets at all (except for the wasted time getting it working)...this is a great performance upgrade - if you want a faster machine and quick boot, this has got to be the best bang for the $!  With this DV7, I can still have the 1T drive in the second bay (battery power isn't a problem for me) so a lot of my data will be going there with programs on the SSD.  If you're considering this upgrade - great - do it for sure!  But do yourself a favour and don't waste time with the HP recovery disks...they just don't work for this upgrade...find someone with a clean Windows disk (XP, Vista (ugh2), 7 or 8) and install your OS that way.  If you have the UEFI BIOS Product Key set-up - it should activate itself (Win8).
Best of luck - you'll love the results!

  • What Brand of SSD (Solid State Drive) are in the Newly Shipping t500's (or t400)

I bought a t500 with a 80 GB SSD Drive and want to know what brand people are getting in the newly manufactured and shipped t500's and t400's
They used to be Samsung and then they switched brands.

the x18-m's are now in stock...but about 2,3 months before, they're harder to find than a unicorn...
as for whether its an x18-m or an x25-m, i'm guessing it's an x25-m but it can just as possibly be an x18-m in an adaptor - they are basically identical apart from the physical size (1.8" vs 2.5", hence the 18 and 25 in their names) and the connector (microsata and sata)

How do I delete stored email addresses in my iphone? When sending photos, I don't want to have certain email addresses  "popping up" from the internal memory, I've deleted my entire "Contact" list but they still appear.  Help please!

As with the Mail app on a Mac, the iPhone's Mail app stores all email recipients in a list of previous recipients which is separate from the address book or contacts. The email address autofill feature when addressing an message pulls from Contacts and from the list of previous recipients.
Different from the Mail app on a Mac, there is no access to the list of previous recipients with iOS on an iPhone, iPod Touch, or iPad to remove a previous recipient from the list, or to add a previous recipient to the address book or contacts that is not already entered - not at the present time anyway.
The only way to purge the list of previous recipients at the present time is by restoring your iPhone with iTunes as a new iPhone or not from your iPhone's backup, which will start being re-populated again with every sent message.

My sister and I each have an ipod touch. We use the same computer and itunes but each have our own apple id. Everytime I want to update an app on my ipod it asks for my sisters apple id login!? help!

When it asks for another ID on an App Update, it means that the application was purchased under your sister's ID but downloaded to your device from the iTunes library that you share. Even though you both have your own Apple IDs, since you are syncing on the same computer, you are using the same iTunes library.
Whoever purchased the app is forever tied to it, and you can only have one version of a particular app in a single library....
    Does that make sense?

    Hello Fiona,
Congratulations on your new iPhone!  You can sync information to your iPhone from your MacBook Pro using the Info tab in iTunes when your iPhone is connected.  Use the steps in the following article:

  • HT4818 I want to have an exFAT parition in addition to the Mac OS X and Windows partition.  If I create it before running BootCamp, it wants me to delete it.  If I create it in either Windows or Mac OS X afterwards, I can no longer dual boot.

I want to have an exFAT parition in addition to the Mac OS X and Windows partition.  If I create it before running BootCamp, BootCamp wants me to delete it before continuing.  If I create it in either Windows or Mac OS X after running BootCamp and installing both OSes, I can no longer dual boot.  What is the magic sequence to get this to work?

    I've got the same quandary.
After upgrading my hard drive to a Momentus XT Hybrid and doing a clean install of Mountain Lion, I was surprised that I couldn't format partitions separately and then restore from my clone of the old Windows 7 Partition. I found that I had to use the BootCamp Assistant to manage it all, which essentially meant getting rid of the partitions and starting again...
I now can't get my Windows / BootCamp partition to boot, after adding a 3rd, ExFat, partition, when it was working perfectly fine before. I just get a lot of dos booting failures and a final message that "No boot device is available, press Enter to continue".
See the attached message, that I get when trying to boot the bootcamp partition, through Parallels 7; which also worked perfectly fine before.
Be good to know if there is a work around this in Mountain Lion as, if not, I'm thinking I might skip Bootcamp altogether and just install a machine drive via Parallels. As suggested here:
    http://forums.macrumors.com/showthread.php?t=1420754
I might even keep the virtual windows machine on a separate hard drive and then I'll have no need for the ExFat partitions altogether as that was designated for  sharing between Windows  and Mac.

OK....I'm stumped.  The message you are seeing is typically there to protect someone from syncing with a different computer/iTunes account.  Is there any way anyone else has used your iPad and possibly connected it to their computer?

''how do i save my zoom setting for all sites? not for each site I visit''
That would be be impossible unless you did away entirely with page formatting entirely. Each author may have their own idea of what you should be seeing and how you are to see it. By site which is the default is about the best that you can do.
If you have a serious problem you could change the resolution of your display, but it had better be a very large monitor.
'''NoSquint''', adjust the text-only and full-page (both text and images) zoom levels as well as color settings both globally (for all sites) and per site. Toolbar buttons, percent displays on status bar.
