Why is the shuffle function not an actual random song generator but a predefined playlist? I finally figured it out when using the "remote" app with itunes. How do we get a REAL shuffle?

Well, shuffle isn't a random song generator, but it isn't a predefined playlist either. Rather, is is a MODE you turn on to play a playlist you choose. That is, you select a playlist (or a group of songs, albums, genres etc), and then you decide to play that group of songs in Shuffle or Regular mode.
If you go to Songs, open it up, and then hit Shuffle at the top, that should play all the songs on the iPhone in shuffle mode. The number will be how many songs you have.
Certainly, there are other complaints about shuffle not being random enough, but you'll have to send feedback to Apple about that:

No playback sound!?!?! Help please. We want to hear our song.

I am new with GB. My boyfriend and I recently recorded several tracks of his new song. When the song was up - we didn't have ANY problems. When I saved it, closed GB, and came back to it the next day to work on more mixing, it would not play back.
I -
checked my system preferences to make sure set at system output
checked GB preferences to make sure set at system output (want playback on computer)
tried with monitor on or off
see levels playing but no sound
checked to make sure tracks were not muted
checked to make sure tracks sound were slid up not down
tried with soloed and no-soloed tracks
notice that the tracks are gray in color unless i solo the track
tried recording new track - through external board we used to do the song or through computer and I hear the metronome count me in but there is no recorded sound.
tried sending my track to itunes (that worked once when I didn't get the sound playback quite figured out yet) and sent our 5:12 track, but no sound.
other small projects with one track playback.
Why isn't there sound? HELP! This is my first "big" project so did I do something when I saved it that I should have (so I don't do it again!). Is there a way to fix it???? We'd like to get our ideas out to band members!

Also...you should ALWAYS save multiple 'takes' as you go along just in case something like this happens. I also save multiple copies in multiple locations... again.... should a disaster occur. Example: I generally save to GB/User/Mac HD AND my external hard drive (4 different locations, I'm paranoid!!). And not just the final product. I will save versions of it as I go along so that if a failure does happen I can at least go back to a working EARLIER version and not have to record the whole darn thing over. I know this doesn't help you now but I also know it will save you future misery. ~KIng

Didn't have time to do more than skim, but 'Ardour' looked promising. Protools is the only one I've used, the full product is one of the industry standards, but the free 'lite' version listed here seems to be limited to 2 in/out as well.
Referring to your original post, I'd think trying to write or 'script' something would be a nightmare ... synchronisation of streams within something like Applescript would be a major issue, quite apart from anything else.

They will only be where you put them. They do not magically appear in new places.
Have you copied them from your old computer to your new one?

Correct me if I'm wrong but what I understand is the following:
The media exists solely on the external drive.
iTunes was pointed to the external drive where the media exists.
The external drive was then disconnected.
If that is the case, do you see where the problem is?
If that is not the case, please ellaborate on whatever steps I have missed.

Thanks, I tried that. It shows me only the songs i purchased and just gives me a snippet of the song. After much more reading and a phone call, it looks like Match will stream all the songs in my iTunes account without having to download them, but of course for a fee :( Thanks though.

Ads feedback: "I don't want to hear this again" button

Anyone else get really annoyed by adverts for rubbish music that you are not at all interested in?
Or you are listening with the kids and an advert for a song that is just swear words comes on?
How about an "I don't want to hear this again" button for adverts?
Hopefully then we will get more tailored adverts that match our tastes better too.

I want to play random songs, not alphabetical

I used to be able to choose a genre, select all songs, shuffle, and get a nice random collection of music. A couple months back, I updated my operating system (huge mistake), and now I have problems. I cannot get a random shuffle. I can choose the genre, choose all songs, and I get an alphabetical list. If I choose shuffle, it just moves to a different place in the same alphabetical list to start off. No matter what I do, I get the same list in the same order. I can only change where in the list I start. And this is driving me crazy. I am still manually culling my list as sometimes I have the same song from two albums, and this causes them to play back to back since they have the same name. Or two versions of the same song.
I am using an ipod touch, 4th gen, and ios 6.1.6. It says that is the most current, yet I can't use some apps because I need 7 or higher.

Let me see if I can explain this better to see if we can get a response on this problem.
If you choose a single album to play it will play the songs in the proper order, no problem. However, if you wish to listen to all songs of a certain band, it plays them in alphabetical order. It doesn't even group the songs within their appropriate albums. So as someone above has mentioned, if you wish to listen to the entire Pink Floyd Discography in order of their release, well... you better get to work making a very long, very large playlist, because thats the only way I have found to do it.
This is absolutely rediculous to think that anyone would want to listen to songs in alphabetical order. What if you have a few live albums along with a couple "Best of's" along with the actual original albums... So when I listen to the songs alphabetically, I get to hear the same song 3, 4, maybe 5 times in a row? That's BRILLIANT!

Why is it when I want to download a song on itunes from a different computer it erases all of my other songs?

Okay, so when I got my Iphone I went to go put music on it from my desktop. I finally got all of the music I wanted off of the desktop on to my Iphone. Then when I went to download a song that I had just bought from Itunes a little pop up came on the screen asking to erase my music that I had on my phone currently to download this one song. Well I had to so I could download the song onto my phone. So, after I had got the song downloaded I went back over to my desktop to redownload all of the other songs onto my phone. My question is, How are you supposed to download songs off of one computer with out erasing all of the other songs on your phone? I would really like to know because I want to download more songs onto my phone from my dad's desktop and I don't want to go through the hassle of having to redownload those of the songs all over again and risk losing all of the songs I will possibly have on my phone later.

If the music is on the same computer, import the songs to your iTunes library by dragging them into iTunes or choosing File > Add to Library (Mac) or File > Add File to Library or Add Folder to Library (Windows). If the music is on different computers you can set up Home Sharing to copy the music from one library to the other (see http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3819 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4620).

Short answer:
Click Hide Song(s), it is what you wanted to do...
Long answer:
iTunes in the Cloud is a feature of your iTunes store account that allows you to redownload or stream your past purchases. When you delete a purchased track that is downloaded to your computer (like the first one shown here) you are asked if you also want to hide the song from iCloud. This would remove it from the computer and also stop it showing up with the iCloud symbol as the other tracks from that album (which are not downloaded) do.
If a track shows with the cloud symbol you can play (stream) it by double-clicking the title, or click the cloud symbol to download a local copy to your library. If you try to delete one of these tracks you get a slightly different message confirming that you want to hide the track. Clicking hide will remove the listing from the library and any other device that shows your past purchases.
Should you want to retrieve any item hidden in this way at a later date use Store > View My Account > iTunes in the Cloud > Hidden Purchases > Manage.
To hide all your previous purchases that are not downloaded to your computer use Edit > Preferences > Store and untick Show iTunes in the Cloud purchases.

Your iPod is designed to sync with only one iTunes library at a time. It will recognize the iTunes library on the PC as a new library. If you sync the iPod with this new library, all content will be erased from the iPod and replaced with what is in the new library. So what you will want to do is copy everything from the iPod to your new iTunes library on your PC first.
