I want to install 10.4 on my eMac which is running 10.5.8 so that I can install OS9. (Don't ask.)

I want to install 10.4 on my eMac which is running 10.5.8 so that I can install OS9. (Don't ask.) The eMac is the very last one which was produced for the education market. What I need is an idiot's step by step guide to un-installing 10.5.8 and then just as detailed instructions to install 10.4 and OS9 and also which installs first. I need to be able to use programmes which go back as far as 1994. I have a Mac with Lion so 10.5.8 is not necessary to me. Spec for the eMac can be found at this link: http://support.apple.com/kb/SP44. Perhaps 10.4 is not the best OS to install along with OS9. I shall be grateful for all the advice I can gert.

I'm not quite sure of some of the terms you have used - a bit technical for me: "use a Mac formatted drive or FireWire Target Disk mode" - What are these?
And I'm not quite sure what these are: "move the items 'Applications (Mac OS 9)' and 'System Folder' to the eMac's internal drive, open the Classic pane of System Preferences, and specify that system."
It is at this point I need the idiot's guide.
Obviously I do NOT just insert the OS9 disc and double click on the installer? Up to this point I have understood you very clear explanations but now it seems as my knowledge is lacking.

Is your eMac capable of booting OS9? One of the 1GHz models couldn't, any after that couldn't, and the ones that could need the special Install Disc that came with them.

    Go to http://appleid.apple.com.
To clarify, the mere act of changing the Apple ID on the device will not remove any content. But you cannot update the apps or re-sync them if they get deleted without the old Apple ID. It may be best to download them again with the new ID.

  • I want to install silverlight, but it ask me to install internet explorer should install it?

I'm trying to install microsoft silverlight, but once I download to file I cannot open file, When I try to get help from microsoft they ask me to download internet explorer should I download explorer, will this affect firefox? I don´t know what to do. Or does silverlight only works with internet explorer? Thank you.

There are different Silverlight plugins for IE and for Firefox.
I think some parts of Windows do not work correctly without Internet Explorer installed. If you install the current version of IE for Windows XP (IE 8), then it may take over as your default browser. No problem. The next time you start Firefox, you can return it to default browser status using:
Tools > Options > Advanced, General tab, "Check Now"
Edit: I suppose it wouldn't hurt to do a backup before installing IE8, just in case. To back up Firefox, see [https://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Backing+up+your+information Backing up your information].

  • How do I get music, apps, movies etc that are in my iTunes - on a PC -  into iCloud?( the stuff I want to move is not on my iPhone which I would like it to stay that way if possible)

I have old music, apps, podcasts, books, and movies that I have already purcahsed. I am just setting my iCloud up, and I can't get anything onto it from my PC. And is it possible to keep stuff in the iCloud and only have it on my PC and not my iphone?
    Thank you,
    iCloud Rookie.

Music is not included in the iPhone backup, because it is already on your computer, so why duplicate it?
Music can only be synced to one computer at a time, so if you change computers the contents of the iOS device will be replaced by what is on the latest computer.
If you have an iCloud backup and your music is saved to iCloud you can restore it by going to Settings/General/Reset - Erase all content and settings. When this completes it will ask if you want to restore your iCloud content.

  • I bought my boyfriend an iPod, and set it up quick under my account. I want to register it, or set it up or whatever under is account now so that we can facetime. How do i change it?

It's under my iTunes account and everything, so when i try to facetime him it just brings up my email and hangs up, saying that facetime is busy. I can't find how to change it. help please!

Connect to his computer and allow iTunes to start from scratch.
If he does not have a computer, create a new user on your computer and use that user for his iPod.

  • I had an htc windows 8x and had 8.1 on it. But I needed to replace it so purchased one online and it's got window 8.0. Want to know when I will be able to get my 8.1 update so that it can be like my first phone I had?

Have talked to Htc and windows and they both told me that it is up to Verizon to put out this update.

Verizon's and HTCs attempt to make money for the holidays by forcing upgrades to newer phones. Most Windows phones have been pulled from the market due to poor sales and HTC and others are just perpetuating it. I will probably abandon Windows phone myself due to so many issues with the HTC 8X and lack of 8.1 upgrade. I have been loyal to Microsoft for to long, since Windows CE and have missed the world of Android all together. I like having all my Microsoft apps sync up, but app support and usability is useless for anything but a phone. Its a darn shame really. I had the HTC Tilt and the same thing happened. I don't think my 8X will last till Windows 10 phones. I am replacing the SIM card every month now to prevent auto shutdowns and Text issues.

    Hi, Stephen -
    Try using either -
    • Startup Disk control pane in Syatem Preferences. With the CD in the drive and visible on the desktop, see if you can select it as the boot volume in Startup Disk. If you can, then do so and restart.
    • Startup Manager. The external drive will need to powered up, ideally using external power, with the CD in the drive.
Article #HT1310 - Startup Manager: How to Select a Startup Volume
The graphic in the article is for Intel Macs; the one that will be depicted on your PowerPC Mac will be sightly different. If an icon is shown for the external drive, click it to select it and then click the right-hand (straight) arrow.
    Notes -
    1) The OS 9 install CD you use will need to be appropriate for your eMac. Not all eMacs are OS 9 bootable; those that are need to use the machine-specific OS 9.2.2 Software Install CD that came with them (the original eMac) or the combo disk set which boots to OSX (other models).
    2) If your eMac is OS 9 bootable and you are using an appropriate stand-alone OS 9 Install CD, if OS 9 drivers have not been installed on the hard drive then the drive will not be available to the installer on the CD.

  • Installing OS9 onto G4 Digital Audio

    Hi,
I was directed here to get better help with this topic. As the title says, I want to install OS9 onto my Digital Audio G4 tower but having little success. I have ttried various discs (9.0, 9.1, 9.2) and none let me install the OS. The best I can get is the "Welcome to Mac OS 9.1" before the bomb screen shows saying there was an unimplemented trap problem. To get that far I have to boot off of a 9.0 disc to get the Floppy and ? error before I change to a 9.1/9.2 disc to start the installer. If I try to boot from the 9.1 or 9.2 discs directly, my Mac complains that there's no bootable medium. I have tried various images and even retail discs (including one that came with the original OSX package) to no avail.
Is there anyone that can help?
    Thanks,
    Naoki

Make sure your 1/2 AA 3.6V PRAM battery is under 4 years old. Make sure you are in fact using a Digital Audio:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT3082
The Digital Audio never officially supported 10.5. If you used LeopardAssist to install 10.5 on it, double check with LeopardAssist's author that didn't affect your ability to use 9 with it, since 10.5 is not compatible with Classic, but is compatible with dual booting into Classic.
If the Mac has a third party processor upgrade, the firmware may have affected its ability to use 9.
Use this article to determine which versions of 9 CD can work with your Mac, once you have identified your Mac accurately with HT3082:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2191
Make sure your 9 retail copy says in black text the version of 9 that is newer than the minimum shown in the article:
9(.0), 9.0.2, 9.0.4, 9.1, 9.2.1 are all retail releases in the sequence of release.
The 9 CD has an orange 9 logo with a white background, and does not Upgrade, or Dropin on it, or any Mac model on it. Lastly, verify the startup manager can see the 9 CD after being inserted:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TA27043
And the curly arrow is clicked on it. If it doesn't see the CD, then it is not compatible.

  • My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to my new iTunes account.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!  Help!

My old laptop crashed, and took my iTunes account with it.  I got a new laptop, and want to sync my iTouch to iTunes.  It gives me an error message stating that I can't sync to multiple iTunes accounts, but I can't access my old one!
How can I get my new iTunes account to allow me to Sync my iTouch?  The only option it gives me is to "transfer purchases" from my iTouch to iTunes, but that is only about 25% of my iTunes library-most of it is CDs I have uploaded.  How can I Sync without losing all my music from my iTouch???
Also, I have lectures and photos, etc. on my iTouch that I don't want to lose.
I've tried a few of the iPod copy programs-the free ones and the ones you have to pay for, but I can't find one that will work for ALL my content on an iTouch.
Right now, I can't get anything from my iTouch to iTunes, and I can't update my iTouch with my new iTunes purchases, so I'm stuck!  Help!

Also-I tried to use my backup hard drive, but I wasn't able to drag/transfer/send/move any of my muic files onto my iTouch when the iTouch was connected to my computer.  I can't figure out why it won't let me do that.
The only thing I can see when I open my iTouch on my computer is my file with photos.  I can't see videos, music, or anything else.  What's going on?

  • Installing OS9.2 on Powerbook  1 Ghz Titanium

I am trying to install OS 9.2.1 on my G4 Titanium Powerbook. It has 512 mb RAM and is a 1 Ghz. It currently has OS 10.4.5 on it. I do not have the original OS 9 install or restore disk.
I have tried installing OS 9.2.1 from a G4 9.2.1 install disk as well as a retail version OS 9.2.1 disk. It starts up fine from the disks, but when I ckick to install the OS, it bombs with both disks.
I also tried not booting up from the disks, but just putting them in and trying to install from there. It tries to go into classic mode, but I do not believe Classic is on the computer because it says it cannot find it. I also do not have the original OS 10 install disk, but do have a copy of the install disk someone burned.
Any ideas? I really need OS 9 on this computer.

    Hi, Chuck -
Your model is of the last series of the TiBooks. Unfortunately, although that model can (sometimes) boot to a OS 9.2.1 Install CD, it can use only the model-specific version of OS 9.2.2 that originally came with it.
In order to install a bootable OS 9 on it you will need to acquire a set of the original disks that came with it. You can sometimes get replacement originals from Apple's Customer Service, by phone. The number for that (and other Apple numbers) is on this page -
    http://www.apple.com/contact/phone_contacts.html
If you do not need a bootable OS 9 on the machine, and need it only for use as Classic (Classic is a full install of OS 9.1 or later, used within OSX as a program to provide an environment in which to run many OS 9 programs), then you can copy an OS 9 System Folder from another machine.
Some users have also successfully copied the System Folder from an OS 9 Install CD for use as Classic - note, though, that those System Folders have a very limited assortment of control panels and extensions, and some services may not be available.
Also, a non-bootable OS 9 System Folder will not be upgradeable - all OS 9 upgrades (download updaters) run only when the machine is booted to OS 9.
