I want to install windows on my mac pro but my superdrive is dead...

I have a 2008 Mac Pro (Intel) running 10.10.  I'm trying to install windows (8.1) on my machine which I have done several times before (mostly XP and windows 7).  I've created a bootable USB drive using bootcamp but my machine won't boot from it or recognize it on startup.  From research it doesn't seem that machines that came with super drives will allow this.  Since my super drive is dead I need a way to install windows without it - buying a new one would only be used to install windows.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

I can have the USB show up either with or without pulling the OS X hardrive.  When I try to launch it however nothing happens although the USB flickers forever showing activity.  I've tried creating the usb from both .cdr and .iso files with no difference.
I looked at the link you posted and it seems that the OP was only able to install windows from his DVD player.  I really hope there is another way and appreciate your help.

Buy Snow Leopard for your Mac Pro, update it to 10.6.8, purchase and download Mountain Lion. There is no other solution.

Go to the Windows Control Panel and select Boot Camp applet. In that applet there is a Boot Drive option. Select Mac OS X.
Or restart the system and hold down the Option key for a few second. A Boot Menu screen will come up. Select Macintosh HD.
Once in OS X go to the Sys Prefences, Startup Disk and select Macintosh HD Mt Lion 10.8.2 and click Restart then Restart again. the system will now restart in Mac OS X.
To boot back to Windows do the same, Startup Disk, and select Windows then Restart and Restart again.

  • Hello i would like instal windows in my mac pro retina but i don't have boot camp

Hello i would like instal windows in my mac pro retina but i don't have boot camp

What version of OS X are you running on your MBPr?
If you open Applications > Utilities, you should see Boot Camp Assistant in that folder.
That is the utility which will create the partition into which you can install Windows that you have purchased from Microsoft.

To install Windows you can use Boot Camp Assistant or use a virtual machine like Parallels, Fusion, or VirtualBox. You can't install Windows as you described in your post.

I installed Adobe on my Mac Pro but can't open it

This is an iDVD forum.  You shoud find the Adobe support website and ask there.  When you do you should specify what Adobe application or software you're referring to.

  • Installing Windows 7 one Mac Pro with SL RAID0, and 1 extra drive 4 windows

So i have snow leopard installed on a RAID 0. I also have a single remaining hdd that has my old Leopard on it. I want to install windows 7 on that remaining internal hdd but bootcamp won't allow me to run setup because it says it doesn't support RAIDs, even though i'm not trying to install windows on the RAID.
Can someone please help me out here? Someone on another forum suggested an AHCI, but i have no experience with them. Be Detailed if you could...

First, try doing what I first suggested, pull your RAID.
Boot Camp Assistant is more trouble than it is worth, and it isn't needed for what you want to do. Format the drive with Disk Utility to MBR/FAT, or just let Windows DVD do it all.

  • My keyboard and my mouse doesn't work when I want to install windows on my mac.

    Hi,
    I have a macbook 15 retina, 2.5 GHz Intel Core i7, 16 Memory Go 1600 MHz DDR3, OS X 10.9.5  (13F34).
I'm trying to install Bootcamp, but when they ask me to choose the language I'm not able to move or write. So I can't install windows. I tried to do everything from the beginnig 3 times by following carefully each step. I'm using windows 7 professionnal to install boorcamp. I'm sorry with my english, I'm french speaker.
How can I resolve this problem?

    1. Did you use Bootcamp Assistant?
    2. Did you build a USB with Windows 7 ISO and Bootcamp drivers?
    3. You should use a USB2.0 disk, not a USB3.0 disk (flash drive).
    4. What year is the Retina MBP?

  • Install windows 7 on mac pro raid

I have just got a mac pro with raid (3 1tb drives), they are set to raid 0 and I am trying to install windows 7 64 bit, 32bit if I really have too but it will not find the drivers on the disk the mac made for the windows installation. Where do I find the drivers, and can I set up for raid 0 and have mac+windows installed?

Mac OS X software RAID is implemented in software that loads when the Mac OS X kernel is operational.
Mac OS X software RAID cannot be used for Windows. If you want your Windows Boot Volume on a RAID, put it on a separate drive (which is good advice in general) and use a Windows-only RAID solution.
Many users find that the OS (Mac or Windows) does not benefit much from RAID -- having multiple bootable backups is a better solution. For performance, having a separate Boot Volume reduces competition for the data Drives, and speeds up your computer considerably.

  • Installing Windows 7 on Mac Pro OSX 10.8.4

As the title suggests im trying to install Windows 7 on my Mac Pro.
There are a few issues im coming across whilst trying to complete this. The main being that Boot Camp doesnt recognise the Windows disc to install from. After further reading i saw that you could essentially mount an ISO to a USB via Boot Camp. I did this successfully and then when i tried to click on 'Install' after deciding the parition sizes i just get the message 'The installer disc could not be found' - so to me its not attempting to locate the USB to try and install from. I could be way out on this and it be that you cant actually install from a USB.
So basically if anybody could provide some advice on how to install Windows 7 from a USB on my Mac Pro via Boot Camp
    Cheers

  • Installing windows 7 on mac pro retina, can not find cd/dvd driver

Hi there, I have bought mac pro retina. Trying to install windows 7, running boot camp. I have downloaded windows support pac on the same usb flush. When running instalation, the system is looking for cd/dvd driver. Even though I browse to the usb flush. It can not find the driver. Than I can not go futher. Anny ideas?Thank you so much

Could be you khave a corrupted Win 7 install file/files.
Try downloading the Win 7 ISO for the version you have from here.

Then burn that ISO to a USB or DVD, USB would be better.

Open the Mac App Store and try purchasing Mountain Lion 10.8. If you get told it's incompatible, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) or better CPU with at least 2GB of RAM, and if it does, phone the online Apple Store and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
A Mac Pro(not MacBook Pro) with at least 2GB of RAM automatically meets the requirements for Lion.
