I want to install Windows XP on Bootcamp but it only offers me Windows 7 - any way round this?
Last year in partitioned an iMac running Snow Leopard and installed Windows XP no problem. This year on a new machine running Lion I can only use Windows 7. Is there any way to get round this, I have two more installations left on my XP disc and don't want to waste them.
Run it through a program such as VirtualBox instead of Boot Camp.

assuming it is an optical mouse (no ball etc.) then there aren't any moving parts involve in the motion detection
so there's a faulty component or connection
from what you describe it could be just a loose/broken connection, so if you know someone familiar with electronics see if they can open it up and have a look -

You mean you don't want to dual boot to run the program in Windows?
Have you looked in the Boot Camp forum? you can run the software already natively in Windows. Parallels just lets you run Windows under or side by side with Mac OS (sharing memory and processing resources).
Parallels of course uses the SAME Windows partition you already have (usually, unless you want to buy and install a 2nd copy of Windows and create a VM). -

Howard has the easiest answer. Or at least, cheapest, since you don't need to purchase an external CD/DVD drive.
The "demo" software from Microsoft's site is exactly the same as what's on the DVD. Install that and activate it with the key in your software box.

Tried your suggestion various ways but it had no effect the download button was still greyed out and the install button would not activate will keep trying to find a solution. I dont want to boot from the external hard drive that has Lion on mainly because it is a usb HD and the connection to my wireless modem slows the connection rate and downloading would take about ten hours -

Thanks in advance for all your help.Connect the SSD with an external enclosure. Boot the system holding down the Command and R keys to get to the Recovery partition. Partition and format the drive with Disk Utility, then install. You're done.
