I want to learn JDE, how ?

Hi,
I want to learn J.D.Edwards enterprise one 9.0, I have a Win XP with 2Gb memory, I found in Oracle e-delivery there's the standalone edtion to install, around 2G to donwload.
there's a windows edtion as well as an oracle database edtion, which one should I choose?
Is the standalone edtion free to use? and is it supporting XP?
If I choose the oracle db edition, can I install it with Oracle 10g XE? I have it installed right now.
Many thanks!
Peter.Yawei.Zhang

Peter,
You can choose either one. The Standalone 9.0 SSE version installs SQL Server Express as the local database; the Standalone 9.0 OEE version installs Oracle Enterprise Edition local database.
Just make sure that you do not have any version of Oracle database (if you're installing the OEE version) or SQL Server (if you're installing the SSE version) on the machine prior to installing Standalone. If any other version of the database is already there, you should uninstall it completely before installing Standalone.
If the Standalone installer detects, for example, in an SSE installation that SQL Server is already on the machine, it will completely skip over that portion of the installation (including configuring it to work with E1 Standalone).
If your installation of Standalone does not complete successfully, then you'll have to follow these steps to uninstall Standalone and the local database before doing a reinstallation:
E1: DEMO: Uninstall Standalone 9.0 SSE or OEE (Doc ID 850355.1)
https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=850355.1
Here are some good knowledge base articles from the My Oracle Support site for Standalone:
E1: DEMO: Complete Reference For DEMO/ Standalone Installation, Troubleshooting and Generic Queries (Doc ID 1085839.1)

Regarding your question about Minimum Technical Requirements (MTRs) for Standalone, Windows XP is not currently in their certifications. Standalone uses the same MTRs doc as a regular Windows client. Currently, only non-home editions of Vista are supported (Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise Editions, up through SP2 of Vista), although Windows 7 might be certified in the foreseeable future.
Windows XP Professional was previously certified, so you should be able to install Standalone successfully on XP -- but if you run into problems that cannot be replicated in one of the currently certified operating systems, then Oracle GCS might ultimately have to tell you to upgrade to a currently certified platform and then replicate the issue before they continue troubleshooting with you.
JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.9x Minimum Technical Requirements for Clients (Doc ID 705409.1)
https://support.us.oracle.com/oip/faces/secure/km/DocumentDisplay.jspx?id=705409.1
And here are some of the salient points from that document:
Hardware Requirements:
CPU: Minimum required by Microsoft for the operating system
RAM: 156 MB above the requirements for the operating system
Hard Drive: 8 GB for system code and initial path code. 6 GB for each additional path code. This is in addition to any other system requirements.
Printer Support:
Non-double-byte: Post Script Language Level 2, PCL 5 or line printer.
Double-byte: Genuine Adobe Systems PostScript Language Level 2 Interpreter version 2015, or PostScript Language Level 3.
PCL 5 is only supported for non-double-byte customers.
EnterpriseOne uses CID Font Technology. Support starts at Language Level 2 Interpreter 2015.
Note: It has been discovered that some third-party interpreters of PostScript Language Level 2 will not properly print CID-Font based double-byte PostScript.
Operating System Requirements:
Windows Vista and Windows Vista SP1/SP2 (Business, Ultimate, and Enterprise Editions)
Note: The EnterpriseOne Windows client must be installed with “Run as Administrator on Windows Vista.
Note: The EnterpriseOne Windows client must be run with “Run as Administrator on Windows Vista.
Database Requirements:
See “JDE Local Database” information contained in the Deployment Server MTR for information on the Local Database Requirements.
Miscellaneous Requirements:
· Adobe Acrobat Reader
· Microsoft Office 2007 is optional. Microsoft Office 2007 is supported beginning with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.96.2. Note that Microsoft Office 2007 has changed some default file extensions. For example, the default extension for Excel files has changed from .xls to .xlsx. Therefore, when exporting to Excel 2007 files, users might have to change the target file name to *.* to see all available files.
· Microsoft Office 2010 is optional. Microsoft Office 2010 is supported beginning with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Tools 8.98.3. Note Default file extensions in Microsoft Office 2010 are the same as Microsoft Office 2007. The ability to save files under Microsoft Office 2003 file extensions is still available.
Now, bear in mind that an installation of Standalone is not a fully-functional installation of E1. There are some things that just won't work; it is for demonstration purposes only, and Oracle GCS only supports getting it to install and launch properly.
But some customers use it for Configuration Assistant and other handy things besides just looking at some of the screens in EnterpriseOne. You can also use Standalone to run reports (called UBEs) to demonstrate the kinds of reporting you are able to generate in E1.
You might hear the phrase 'run UBEs' -- 'UBE' stands for Universal Batch Engine, which is what runs reports in E1 and is sometimes used synonymously to refer to the reports themselves.
But you may also notice that you can run UBEs from the fat client for Standalone (which opens when you double-click the Solution Explorer lightbulb icon to start Standalone), but not from the web client (which you launch from Tools > EnterpriseOne Menu once you have logged into the fat client).
That's just the way that Standalone works, out of the box, and how it's officially supported by Oracle GCS.
I hope that some of this information is helpful to you. Good luck with your installation!

  • New to FLASH.... I am wanting to learn the how to say, fly a plane over page

    Hi
    I am completely new to FLASH, i have managed to create a
    basic step by step animation, much like i have done with an
    animation tool, painshop pro animation programe.
    But it must be easier than this, I have been told to look at
    the manual, but i do not even know what i am looking for.
    How do i get an image of lets say a plane to fly across the
    page or in the window of the flash movie with a few clouds in the
    background say.
    what i am hoping to next have is for the plane to have a
    banner flying behind it with a name on it.
    can someone please help me out here i am going crazy with
    frustration it can not be that hard i am sure i just need help in
    creating the first and i can hopefully work out how to add the
    banner in time.
    just like PHP i worked it out in the end, i wish to learn all
    i can about flash.
    or are there any other online tutorials that show a step by
    step instruction on how to do basic things, i have looked at the
    flash help files that came with the software but have no idea what
    they are getting at, and again i do not know what to look for
    either,
    cheers in advance for your help.

    are you using the timeline and motion tweens? for a plane to
    fly across the screen, you would need a movieclip symbol of the
    plane. create a layer in the timeline that corresponds to this
    symbol and place it on the start position on the stage. create a
    new keyframe in the timeline several frames ahead, and with this
    keyframe selected, move the plane to the end position. Then click
    on one of the frames in between the start keyframe and the end
    keyframe, and in the properties palette, select Tween: Motion.
    replace the playhead at the beginning of the timeline and hit
    return to see the animation in the authoring environment. if you
    want to make it last longer, add more frames between the start and
    end frames (select a frame in between and hit F5 to add frames or
    Shift-F5 to delete frames). this is pretty basic, but it should get
    you started...
    good luck,

  • I want to learn JDE

    Hi
    I began to study JD Edwards EnterpriseOne by examples from JD Edwards Best Practice Center http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fmw4apps/jde/index-088030.html
    I have installed VM image with JD Edwards EnterpriseOne 9.0 Standalone Client SSE on WinXP but can't complete three tutorials:
    1. JDEVELOPER: JD Edwards EnterpriseOne Business Service Development http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/openworld08-businessservicedevelopm-134549.pdf
    I received an error "Internal Server Error (Caught exception while handling request: oracle.e1.bssvfoundation.exception.E1AuthorizationException: User is not authorized to invoke this published business service)" in the step 13 of this Lab.
    2. WEB SERVICES: Creating a Table I/O Based Business Service http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/jde-bssv-database-business-service-131800.pdf
    On the step 15. Running the Test Class I received an error "Exception in thread "main" java.lang.NullPointerException at oracle.e1.bssv.JP550010.GLManagerTest.main(GLManagerTest.java:36)". I ran еру test in Debug mode received this error generating by the line
    context = startPublishedMethod(context, "AddF0911Z1", vo);
    in GeneralLedgerManager.java class
    3. WEB SERVICES: Consuming External Web Services Using Business Services http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/fmw4apps/jde/consuming-external-web-services-182155.pdf
    I could not find parent DLL CCUSTOM on the step 5.0 "Create the Business Function Object". Can anyone suggest where I could learn about creating custom parent dll or I can include my BF in CALLBSFN library or other?
    Great Thanks!
    Pavel

    Hi again!
    I continue to struggle with the challenge of integrating JDE DEMO with any development environment. I added Bossiness Function JP010000 at DEMO - Default project Published (from Search in OMW), selected it in Object tree, clicked Design button and in the Business Function Design Form selected "Invoke in JDeveloper". I wrote the following code in the test class ABTest.java of project JP010000:
    public static void main(String[] args) {
    GetContact gc = new GetContact();
    gc.setContactTitle("vpl");
    gc.setContacTypeCode("T");
    AddressBookManager abm = new AddressBookManager();
    ShowContact sc = null;
    try{
    sc = abm.getContact(gc);
    }catch (BusinessServiceException e) {
    e.printStackTrace(System.out);
    }finally{
    System.out.println(sc.toString());
    Then I launched ABTest.java in Debug mode and in the class AddressBookManager.java program has crashed on calling
    context = startPublishedMethod (context, "getContact", vo, IConnection.AUTO);
    Can anyone help me with connect JDeveloper and JDE?
    Thanks!

  • Help.I want to learn about how to assign a custom request  with manager .

    Hi.
    When i submit a custom single request.I got this problem.
    No concurrent manager is defined to process this request, so it cannot be processed.
    Contact your system administrator to define a concurrent manager to process this request or to verify that existing concurrent managers have the correct specialization rules.
    Then, I check the request with request id in application manager.I found there is no manager with my program.So I think i need to assign it.But i don't know how to do it.
    So.please help me.waiting for reply...

  • I want to learn how to use ActionScript

    Where Am I With Flash?
    I have adobe Flash CS3 Professional.
    I have looked at the tutorials from the 'getting started'
    section of the Video Workshop DVD and understood them.
    I can do simple things like shape tweening, adding butons
    ect...
    I would like to be able to start adding script to my projects
    (ActionScript 3)
    I have almoast never programed before and certanly never
    programed with ActionScript
    I have an ambition to become a good ActionScript Programer so
    I can add interactive flash into websitess
    What Do I Want?
    To start with, I need to know how everything is set up within
    ActionScript 3 (what are variables and constants? How do you
    constuct an If statment? What imported events do what? ect...)
    I want to learn the above from a book (so I do not have to be
    at my computer to learn). It would be nice if the book came with a
    tutorial disk but this is not essential.
    I have looked at the book from the following URL -
    http://www.amazon.co.uk/Flash-ActionScript-Dummies-Doug-Sahlin/dp/0764508318/ref=pd_bbs_6? ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1204548401&sr=8-6
    However, I'm not sure if this book is for programing in
    ActionScipt version 3 or another version (or for that matter
    weather the fact that it is for version 1,2 or 3 matters at all).
    One More Thing
    Also I would like to know some usefull websites that could
    help me besides the video workshop (which I have looked at).
    Thank You
    Ziggy

    Hi Ziggy,
    I suggest you take a look at "Learning ActionScript 3.0: A
    Beginner's
    Guide", by Rich Shupe and Zevan Rosser.
    It will give you great foundation and can help you build your
    skills
    from ground up.
    I have just barely read a few pages, so I'm basing myself on
    reviews
    from friends who are beginning into AS3.
    Furthermore, once you've got a good grasp on the basics, I
    think one of
    the most important part will be improving your skills on
    object oriented
    programming. There's no better way for that than learning it
    with your
    favorite language (and AS3 is perfect for that).
    I strongly suggest at that point, that you acquire Colin
    Moock's
    "Essential Actionscript 3" from O'Reilly's. It's a difficult
    book but
    don't get discouraged, and keep on reading and re-reading the
    chapters
    and studying the examples until you finally get it.
    It will help get your feet into OOP, necessary if you are
    serious in
    AS3, and I can guarantee you although you might feel
    disturbed for not
    understanding everything right away, it is only because it
    covers the
    topics very thoroughly, and you'll end up understanding many
    important
    concepts by re-reading it over the months/years of your
    practice.
    That book is a bible (like all previous from the author)...
    once you get
    to an intermediate level, you'll most likely rarely read any
    other
    (except for very specific topics it doesn't cover), and you
    will often
    refer to the AS help to know all of the classes and functions
    you'll
    come to need, since you'll be fully able to understand them.
    Good luck!

    I am a teacher of mathematics and i have a windows pc, but i want to do the next step. I want to buy an iMac. I want to learn how to write mathematical equations and how to do geometrical schema in my documents with iMac. Help me please!!! Thank you very much!!!

    Bonjour VAGRAI
    1) To write math expressions in a text :
         — Microsoft Office 2011 etc. for Mac use its included Equation Editor.
         — OpenOffice.org (OOo) and NeoOffice : download free Dmath 3.3.
         — iWork (Pages, Numbers, Keynote), download free MathType 6.7, fully functional for 30 days, then becomes « Lite » for life as good as the Microsoft equation editor ; it’s better than using Grapher’s equation editor (Applications > Utilities) because MathType can be called from Pages and allows editing equations by clicking the math expressions your text (details on MathType website) .
         — Graph.app 2.3 in Mountain Lion is built to draw curves and surfaces from equations, so it uses an equation editor less powerful than mathType, but it’s easier typing expressions. You may get 2D 3D geometrical drawings from clever equations. Suggest a glance at   http://y.barois.free.fr/grapher/  to know all about Grapher (83 pages Instructions for Use - Grapher) and some examples
      2) Geometrical schema :
         — GeoGebra is very popular and used by math teachers.
         — Google SketchUp 8 was not built for mathematics but for architecture, but it’s very easy using it to draw 2D 3D surfaces and solid figures.
         — ShapeOnYou.app allows simples geometrical figures  http://pierre.chachatelier.fr/programmation/shapeonyou_en.php
    3) Some useful websites for screen shots of geometrical schema :
         http://www.mathcurve.com/
         http://perso.orange.fr/roger.assouly/
    Drawings files PDF, TIFF, JPG … can be inserted in an iWork window (Pages).
    I hate LaTex : not necessary to write math books !
    Au revoir VAGRAI,
    YB24
    Attachment : lines and curves were made with Google SketchUp 8, screen copied (Command-Shift-4), inserted on a Pages sheet to add letters figures rectangles title.
    SketchUp allows drawing precisely an arc of circle 325 mm radius 22,5° angle for instance.

  • Want to learn iPhone Programming on 10.5 PPC, can i do this?

    I want to self teach my self to program iPhone applications, i have no programming experience so inwill be starting from scratch. I have got the book 'Objective-C For Absolute Beginners' but before I begin I wanted to check I can learn using my system. I have a iMac G4 PPC running Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard which means I cannot run the latest version of Xcode. Is the latest version of Xcode that can run on 10.5.8 and on a PPC machine okay for me to practice and learn how to use Xcode and program for the iPhone? Because I don't have the money but when I can afford it I will upgrade to an intel computer maybe in a years time. But will it do for now?

    AndiWhitts wrote:
    Yes that's what I'm after, so writing program's for my mac is similar to iPhone app development only with a different UI ect.? and they definitely both use Objective-C? And the current Xcode I got with my leopard install will have everything I need won't it.
    There are definitely some similarities. The lower-level libraries are very similar. At the application level, and the UI architecture level, they are significantly different.
    I just wanted to make a start before I get an intel mac but I didn't want to learn it all then have to start from scratch when I get an intel mac because it is completely different.
    You wouldn't start from "scatch" because it wouldn't be "completely" different. You would be starting near the beginning because it is 70% different.
    If you want to start with the machine you have, focus on writing Mac apps. In a year, maybe you might have something that you could port to Xcode4 and release in the App Store.
    Any machine made since 2007 will run Lion.

  • For all the newbies who wants to learn Java

    I was a newbie like 4 months ago. i have some skills of OOP in C++ like 2 years back but since then i did'nt took any of programming language courses. I have experience in MSaccess and MYsql. i did my internship Last summer with Tennessee Education Lottery as a Database Analyst. At that time i realized what a Corporate Enviorment looks like. Trust me it was a formal interview and i passed it and they placed me in the IT department to write some scripts for the GUI terminal and at the same time create a Company Security Database. i did completed my project but i had to Learn Mysql. and then i realized Java was getting very popular. alot of people told me in the forums to go Java tutorial but i will not agree to start from the sun tutorial. you can do it only if you have a good or may be medium experience of OOP. it was really tough for me and then this magic guy came on the forum and told me to go on this website if you want to learn Java.
    http://chortle.ccsu.edu/java5/cs151java.html
    This site is a brilliant site specially the exercise problems and the quizes really attracted me to Java alot and now i came to realize how easy it is to program in Java rather than C++. Java forums have helped me alot in solving those exercise problems (not with the code but with a good explanation) which was very helpful for me. out of my 210 post i guess i have helped 30 people out and the rest of the questions are regarding those exercises. i came to know encapsulation, inheritance and all that stuff. though i am still not very perfect like i am still having trouble with ComparTo thing but it takes more practice. the more you practice the more you learn. so all the newbies if you really want to learn java even if you dont have any experience in OOp this is the site where you need to start. Hope this will definitely help you alot. thanks to all the Senior members navycoder, captain, paulcw, duffy, turingpest and others also who have helped me in the past. without you i would have not achieved the goal of learning java. now my next step is going to be learn GUI programming Swing. looks fun to me. but at the same time i have my final project for this semester to make on ONline Testing program which will have a database, php scripting and html and xml.
    I will post if i have any problems

  • Want to learn more

    hi all!
    I am a B.Tech 2nd year student. I know the basics of JavaSE.....upto
    multi threading. But now as gain more I want to learn more java applications.
    At present i am going through course of Data Structure and Algorithms.
    now i want to learn jsp, xml, and basics of some of java applications.
    So, i want to know how i can start....what i should do.....i'm very confused.....plzz help me...........

    There are some things you can do:
    1. stick to the client side and
    - try programming a simple app that makes life easier for you in some way
    - extend it to store some data to a JDBC database (try mysql for the first run)
    - IF THAT RUNS, try some more sopohisticated persistence frameworks like hibernate.
    - try Eclipse RCP, another client-side programming model apart from swing.
    2. try server side / J2EE, BUT
    - restrict to do plain servlets the first time, no struts, no JSP, no DataSources, no files, JAAS, JMS / clustering / spring. Got it?
    - ONLY LEARN ONE TECHNOLOGY AFTER ANOTHER. j2EE is painful until you know what you do.
    - dont use jboss, dont use websphere. For the first some projects, use plain-old Tomcat.
    - after the first some running server apps, read a J2EE patterns book.
    Path 1 is the easy, painless one. path 2 is the big world, hence cumbersome, painfull and wealthy, and you will learn Path 1 "on the run", but its hard work.

  • Want to learn about internals of DMLs

    Hi friends,
    I want to learn more about internals of DMLs so that i develop a good understanding of the way oracle architecture works to become strong in basics.
    I don't know exactly how to do it.
    Right now i am studying:Chapter 9: Redo and Undo (Expert oracle database architecture- Tom Kyte)
    Next i am planning to study "Oracle Core Essential Internals -by Jonathan lewis)?
    My questions to all:
    1. Where should i go from here, what should i study/practice etc?
    2. Am i going in the right direction currently?
    Thanks,
    Kunwar

    You are surely in 100% correct direction because you are reading the books which millions of DBAs reads.
