I want to learn pro techniques like what you see on TV

I want to be able to do the cool effects you see on modern documentaries like on the History channel or TLC with zoom blur transitions, slick retiming effects, complete with "swoosh" sound fx just to name a few techniques. I've tried looking up tutorial sites but I haven't found any that details the pro techniques that I have in mind. Either my skills are sorely lacking or the pros must be using some other tools beyond FCS 1, which is what I'm using. Can anybody point me to good sources?

I think you'll find that a lot of this comes with time and patience as you practice using the software packages and learn how they best intergrate within each other. As you do this you will very quickly see how there is not one standard rule of thumb, but a multitude of methods to achieve a variety of results. As you learn more and more you soon begin to 'discover' various methods to achieve the results you are after.
You could start by going through the tutorials that Apple supplied when you bought FCS.
You could also find places that offer specialised courses in Post-Production. Apple offer a variety of courses from beginners through to 'Train The Trainers'.
But in terms of being 'able to do cool effects you see...like on the History Channel of TLC' - the professionals who did that didn't learn how to do it overnight while searching the net for quick tutorials.

  • How Do You Print What OS X Renders and What You See Like the Lines on a Table on OpenOffice?

Hi. How do you print what you OS X's graphics is rendering (what you see is what you get). I'm trying to print a calling card on OpenOffice Apache, latest but it would not print the guidelines (the lines when you use table, columns and rows) and it would only print the letters.
    Thank you in advance.
    God bless.

If the lines are printing but they are too faint to see them easily, then there could be a rendering setting that could improve the line density.
But if the lines are not at all visible then maybe the application is set not to print them. So check the Preferences or the printing options for OpenOffice? There might be a setting about the printing of gridlines.
FYI - MS Excel has the gridlines disabled for printing but they can be enabled via the Excel print dialog.

  • WorkflowLab Beta 2 What you see in it?

The new Beta Version of WorkflowLab is very interesting
Here is the link video of Adobe TV about WorkflowLab:
    http://adobe.ly/za4oVO
I'm really excited about this program is a bit similar (no interface) on the goal of software (Office Project). Just is focused towards the development of multimedia.
I guess that as more betas come we will see improvements in workflow (editing options and accurate preferences)
I hope to see the stable version soon

You should get exactly what you see in iPhoto on the printed sheet. Can you describe exactly the workflow you use in printing?
    OT
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier versions) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
NOTE: this is not the same as routinely backing up your entire iPhoto library folder to protect your photos. It only protects the loss of your organizational efforts that the database file contains.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. There are versions that are compatible with iPhoto 5, 6, 7 and 8 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
NOTE: The new rebuild option in iPhoto 09 (v. 8.0.2), Rebuild the iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup" makes this tip obsolete.

  • I thought Dreamweaver was what you see is what you get... How do I eliminate the "gap"?

    Someone. Please. Help. Me.
In one of my websites www.acsmechanical.net, the images aren't lining up with the background I created. It looks perfect in Dreamweaver itself, but when I upload it or preview it in a browser there is a "gap". I'm thinking it has something to do with the image alignment or positioning. But I really don't know. It's driving me crazy but it may be something simple.
    Thanks, Maria

Nope. DW is not what you see is what you get. Never base your design on what you see in the preview window.

  • LR4.2 printing multiple cell with overlap -  What you see IS NOT what you get ?

    Hi,
I am using LR4.2 and PS-elements. Epson 3800 for printing
    PS - never an isue.
    user is admin ..
I get a strange phenomena in LR4.2 when doing multiple cells on same print - with overlapping: At time what you see is not what's going to be printed! at times you will get the printout with some of the cells mising photos (even printing them to file will result in the same way..). Post the printing (ouch wasting of paper...) if I select the cell, I can "send it to the front, ad now it will be printed ok/.
Please advice - did you see this before >?
    Ami

I have never tried printing overlapping photos.  Can you describe how to a simple photo layout that demonstrates the problem so others can try?  Or at least include a screen-capture of the layout that is showing the issue.  It may have something to do with your particular printer driver even if you print to a JPG, but if others, with other printers have the same issue, then it is likely something within LR, only.

  • Smartforms - What you see is not what you get ?

I create a delivery note by smartforms.
Print Preview in the PC, the position of data is correct.
But printed on the paper, what you see in the PC is not what you get? The page format is custom, not standard.
    Is there somebody know reason?
    Thanks!!

I all really depends  on the printer, the print drivers, and how the printer is setup on the basis side.
I have seen the same thing when printing one layout from two different printers.  They didn't look the same.

  • What you see is not what you get (gradient fills in text boxes do not reder

I have a web page that has a lot of text boxes with gradient fills. Some of these render correctly in Safari but many do not. They all look fine in iWeb. I copied one that rendered correctly and the pasted version did not. (the gradient fill did not cover the entire text box) Text boxes with two lines of text seem to have the most problems. Most copied text boxes also have problems.

Using a shape with a gradient fill and dragging a plain text box on top of it instead of just filling a text box with a gradient fill does work. However, Im not sure the problem is converting my text to an image as the html still has my text inside of tags even with the gradient fill. It seems like iweb should produce web pages that look exactly like what is shown in iweb.
So my question is not completely answered, but I do have a work around. Thanks
    Russ

If you had turned off the "Sticky Footer" feature for your page in Page Properties, or in Site Properties, I believe it would have provided the behavior you were looking for.
One gotcha with providing a WYSIWYG Design view is that every visitor will be viewing your site in a browser window of a different height. By default Muse positions your footer so it's no higher than the bottom of the visitor's browser. (The footer is "sticky" and thus sticks to the bottom of the browser window if the content is shorter than the height of the browser window.) If you would prefer your footer to appear in the middle of the browser window when the browser window is taller than your content, you can achieve that by turning off the "Sticky Footer" feature.

  • My Firefox screen at the top does not look like what you show at your help site, so I can't customize or learn how to do things

I am running Windows 7 Professional and am not adept at using the Windows platform. Firefox on my computer does not look the way it is shown at specific "Help" topic pages, so I can't get the help needed. Three examples: 1. How to click on a link so it opens in a new tab; 2. How to customize the options; 3. How to get rid of the "Ask" web site window.

On Windows, you can switch between a classic menu bar and a compact menu opened with an orange button with the word Firefox.
You can switch between these using one of these methods:
    * right-click a blank area of the tab bar and turn Menu Bar on or off
    * View menu > Toolbars > Menu Bar
    * orange Firefox button > Options triangle > Menu Bar
    Does that help?
To get to the tab preferences, you can do this:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Options > Tabs
To remove the Ask toolbar, you can go here:
orange Firefox button (or Tools menu) > Add-ons > Extensions category
You might still have to do a little cleanup after removing an extension, if it changed your home page, new tab page, search provider, etc. Please describe any remaining problems in more detail.
    Hope this helps.

  • How to Get Prints that Look like what I see on my Monitor

I am giving CDs with Xmas card images for clients to take to their local printer and print their Xmas cards. But they are getting different results than what I saw on my monitor -- often much darker. Is there something I can do to be sure that what the lab prints is the same as the image I saw on my monitor???? I have a PowerMac G5 with a 17" monitor, which I calibrated with a Monaco colorometer....I am using Photoshop CS2.

make sure to select the ICC profile, give your clients a list of prefered printers that do color adjustment in lab for a modest fee, I like delta quest imaging and Millers, Pro color is ok, and dont even think about white house custom color they dont know color from their A**. Use a standard Profile and Gamma with all your images for consistancy, you will want to send Great Mcbeth Color charts to the lab and have them tell you what color space they are printing in. Most labs I have seen seem to be printing in Adobe RGB 1998 but many still use Adobe SRGB which may be why alot of your images may apear more saturated contrasty and darker. Also low quality labs will not check their chemisty often so I have noticed problems especialy with the fujifilm 390 mini lab and lesser models where the chemistry varys in just 1 degree and all the images look way to magenta or way too cyan!
also keep note on the type of paper they will be printing your photos on, fijifilm paper is not going to last as long, I have heard rumers that because it is thinner it is more suseptable to oxidation and eventual fading.
Personaly I refuse to allow any of my clients to print anything themselfs because if they end up printing it at wallmart or taking it to proex ritzcamera or wolfcamera and messing it up they arn't going to know it was the labs fault they are going to assume it was your fault and thats your reputation on the line.

  • Merge to HDR Pro: What you see is not what you get?

I am using PSCC on an iMac (Mavericks). When I bring bracketed shots into PSCC's Merge to HDR Pro, I can work the settings and/or presets to get an image that looks OK. However, when I exit from HDR Pro by clicking OK, the image displayed in PSCC is very different from what I was just looking at in HDR Pro. The screenshots here show just one example, working in 16-bit mode. Other images show even greater differences. Working in 32-bit mode makes it even worse. This did not use to happen in my earlier versions of PS (perpetual license). Am I missing something or doing something wrong?
    Image in HDR Pro:
Image in PSCC after clicking OK:

    Trevor.Dennis wrote:
Yes I realised that.  There are now quite a few applications for processing HDR, and IMO Photomatix has always been the best of them, and certainly did a better job than Photoshop.  My point was that the old 'Merge to HDR Pro' workflow is now redundant if you have Photoshop CC, and that using Camera RAW as outlined by Julianne Kost, has suddenly leapfrogged all the competition by an order of magnitude.
So I strongly urge you to take Mr Prengel's advice. Output the image in 32bit, and use ACR to process it.  Did you watch the video tutorial I linked to?
You certainly shouldn't get all pixel-peeper about how the 32bit image looks on your screen.  It is not possible to show the tonal width of a 32 bit image on a computer screen, so you are seeing a 'representation' of how it might look after processing.
FWIIW I have taught HDR (and Photoshop) to some of the best photographers in the world at two PSNZ National Conventions back in 2010 and 2011, so I kind of have strong opinions about it.  Not that I use it excessively, but it is a very handy tool to keep in your photographic skills repertoire.
    Trevor,
I am sorry if I misunderstood your post. I am actually using the same workflow as Julianne Kost in her video (which I had watched prior to posting here). And, as I posted above, I do agree with Mr. Prengel that I should just take the 32 bit image into Camera Raw and do the toning there. As a matter of fact, that is what I have been doing in Photoshop CC (sending the pictures from Lightroom, same as Julianne Kosts does), and I can do a very good job, if I say so myself.
So the question I had was merely one of puzzlement at seeing the difference between the image just before exiting HDR Pro and what shows up in Camera Raw. In the examples I provided, and in many other cases, it clearly went beyond pixel-peeping: they were two very different images. But I think I understand now why this is, which you kindly pointed out: it is not possible to show the tonal width of a 32 bit image on a computer monitor. I had not considered that and I thank you for mentioning it.
It may be that in some cases (as in Julianne Kosts's video) the representation in HDR Pro is actually pretty close to the initial view in Camera Raw, but in other cases (my examples) it is not. Not really an issue, I agree.

  • What is the difference between Firefox 7.0.1 and Firefox Desktop? I like what I see in Desktop. How do I get it.

How do I go about getting Firefox Desktop. I have Firefox 7.0.1 now as my browser. Do I have to download Desktop or do an add-on?

1)Now I use Lightrom 5.7 how to upgrade to 6 or CC?
Purchase the standalone upgrade from here: Products
Download CC version from here: Explore Adobe desktop apps | Adobe Creative Cloud
    2) What is the difference between 6 and CC version?
See this comparison chart: Compare Lightroom versions | Adobe Photoshop Lightroom CC
    3) When I used lightromm 3, I could see in EXIF the distance in meters till the object I took, in the later virsions that function disappeared, it is very sad  I am stiil waiting and hope that it would be possibble in the new  versions. Or this indication may  possible by setting?
Rob Cole's ExifMeta plugin displays the Subject Distance field (and much more).  Unfortunately, his Web site appears to be down again.  He used to be very active here, but he hasn't posted in several months.

  • Exported jpg doesn't look like what I see in LR

I am stuck on this one problem and am hoping you folks can help out.
I have an image I've beenworking on in LR and PSE.  It looks good in LR, but when I export it to a jpg, my last round of changes aren't saved.  The image that's exported is grainier and has less contrast, both of which were things I changed in LR.
I'm careful to save the changes to the metadata before doing the export.  I'm not running into this problem with any other images.  Can anyone help?

If this is reproducible, you should report it as a bug at http://feedback.photoshop.com/photoshop_family#problem
Exporting at 100% is a workaround to a problem that shouldn't exist.
