I want to listen to BBC radio on my macbook

get this message when I try to listen;
The page “BBC iPlayer - Radio” has content of MIME type “application/x-mplayer2”. Because you don’t have a plug-in installed for this MIME type, this content can’t be displayed.
I don´t understand what that means.....can anybody translate for me? I don´t know what MIME is or a plug-in.
Thanks

Plug-ins let your browser handle special kinds of content such as streaming video and audio. MIME types are a geeky shorthand for various types of content -- and I agree that it's frustrating when your computer refers to acronyms and other technical jargon so casually!
The good news is I was able to get the BBC Radio iPlayer to work fine, so it's not a Mac-compatibility issue. You just need the proper plug-ins. You'll want both the free Flip4Mac (Windows Media) plug-in and the free Real Player plug-in.

  • Cannot listen to BBC radio on my Macbook.

I'm a new migrant from Windows. I always used to be able to listen to BBC Radio. Not anymore. Can anyone help? My OS is Tiger - current version. I have a current version of Real Player which has been 'automatically' configured to work (?).
Also, does anyone know how to save a picture from a web page. Seems so simple, yet I can't find anywhere that explains how to do this. (No right click with a Mac , of course).

PeterUK, Welcome to the discussion area!
I'm not sure why you posted in this area. This area if for discussing the AirPort Express (AX) and wireless networking.
You should post your question in the OS X or MacBook discussion area.
...No right click with a Mac , of course...
    Use CTRL-<click>.

I don't know if this is what you really want, but I created a Playlist for Radio, and add some of the stations I like from websites. (If you click on the web-links they load into iTunes in the Sidebar). And you can also add individual Radio stations from the top right,(under Apple) to a Playlist. That's the only way I know to have them in the Sidebar.
Z_ZS-B, You also helped me to find the old Radio list! I didn't even know it was up on the right, under Apple. I haven't liked this version of iTunes so I hadn't even bothered to try and figure it out until now, but because I just bought a my first iPod Shuffle I'm determined to bend this version to my will. ;-)

You buy one and only one download.
It is your responsibility to move/copy/backup your music.
Certainly you did not update your ipod without making sure that you had transferred anything purchased on the ipod to your computer and included it in your regular backup copy of your computer.

  • Just upgraded to ios7 and want to listen to BBc Global news podcast as I do every single morning and it is not there - where have all my podcasts gone? If I had known this would happen I would NEVER have upgraded.. Help!

Just upgraded to ios7 and want to listen to BBc Global news podcast as I do every single morning and it is not there - where have all my podcasts gone? If I had known this would happen I would NEVER have upgraded.. Help!

As of iTunes 11.1 and iOS7, podcast files will no longer play in the Music app on the iPhone (this is very annoying, but that's the way it is).
The two easiest options are probably:
What Apple wants you to do: download and install their free Podcasts app onto your iOS device. In theory your podcasts, including the BBC news one, should sync onto the Podcasts app. This is supposed to "Just work", and if it just works for you, well, congratulations, but that certainly doesn't seem to be the case for most posters in this forum.
What I'm leaning towards: for all podcasts in iTunes, Get Info, and change them from "Media Kind = Podcasts" to "Media Kind = Audiobook". That will allow them to sync to the Music app. Then you'll have to arrange smart playlists or whatever to sync those (ex-)"podcasts" to your Music app.

  • How to listen to BBC radio on the Power PC

It seems that the latest upgrade to BBC iPlayer requires a version of Flash Player that doesn't play on Power PC Macs. What a spon. The Power PC still works fine and isn't that old.
Does anyone know a workround to listen to BBC radio?

    Where are you playing from?
    iTunes Radio? or a website?
From websites. The problem doesn't seem to happen when I use iTunes but it doesn't seem that every station's internet can be opened through iTunes. Or is there a way in fact to do that?

  • Listening to BBC radio stream

    Hi
I live in Bangkok and like to listen to the BBC radio 5 web stream while driving around town.
Currently I'm using WunderRadio but I was wondering if anyone would recommend different radio streaming software?
    Thanks
    Mick

    Hi BkkMick,
My app (yes, I'm the developer, and I will get paid if you buy my app) ooTunes Radio has many of the BBC streams. However, only those that are available in windows media audio (WMA format) will work in the apps that support wma format. ooTunes Radio (my app), Wunder, pocket tunes and FStream (a free app) all support wma audio streams. I have the BBC 5 live and BBC 5 sports xtra streams already in the built in database and they work great. The full list of stations compatible with my app is here: http://ootunes.com/s/ though there are a few BBC streams there that only work in the UK (they are labeled that way). Good Luck!

  • I want to listen to the radio on my iphone4

Just got a new iphone 4 thought I was getting a good bit of kit but no phone and I often need to listen to radio 4 and other news stuff for work when running please tell me i can and i don't have to run with my old nokia.

you can listen to radio online
you can get headsets with build in radio
if you feel apple should add radio a feature which all newer nokia's have removed
you should use the feedback channel
    http://www.apple.com/feedback/iphone.html
you should prob spec if you wish
fm, am, mw, lw or DAB radio
personally I would not hold my breath though

  • I wanted to listen to WNPR radio through Safari and now cannot stop it. Everytime I open Safari the radio starts again.

Was listening to NPR and closed Safari but now every time I open Safari NPR comes on again streaming the audio. Only way I can use Safari is to turn MacBook volume all the way down.
    Any suggestions?

In System Preferences > General, make sure "Close windows when quitting applications"
    is chosen.

  • BBC Radio iPlayerwill not work with latest version of Firefox.

I have updated all necessary software (Flashplayer, etc.) and am forced to use Internet Explorer to listen to BBC Radio. Earlier versions of Firefox do not have this problem. I am not a computer programer, just a user. I have used Firefox for years and been able to listened to BBC Radio for years. I've read all the advice on various Firefox fora and not found anything useful in solving this problem. It seems to be a problem intrinsic to the latest version of Firefox itself. Will this problem be fixed in the near future? It seems to have been going on for the better part of a year in both the US and UK. If not, why not?
My expertise is in chemistry, not computers. I need a browser that works. I'd like that browser to be Firefox, but I don't have any more time to spend on trying to fix this problem. Using two different browsers is not working for me. Please fix this.

Before I suggest you to revert back to Firefox 28.
    Try this
Certain Firefox problems can be solved by performing a ''Clean reinstall''. This means you remove Firefox program files and then reinstall Firefox. Please follow these steps:
'''Note:''' You might want to print these steps or view them in another browser.
#Download the latest Desktop version of Firefox from http://www.mozilla.org and save the setup file to your computer.
#After the download finishes, close all Firefox windows (click Exit from the Firefox or File menu).
#Delete the Firefox installation folder, which is located in one of these locations, by default:
    #*'''Windows:'''
    #**C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox
    #**C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox
#*'''Mac:''' Delete Firefox from the Applications folder.
#*'''Linux:''' If you installed Firefox with the distro-based package manager, you should use the same way to uninstall it - see [[Installing Firefox on Linux]]. If you downloaded and installed the binary package from the [http://www.mozilla.org/firefox#desktop Firefox download page], simply remove the folder ''firefox'' in your home directory.
#Now, go ahead and reinstall Firefox:
##Double-click the downloaded installation file and go through the steps of the installation wizard.
##Once the wizard is finished, choose to directly open Firefox after clicking the Finish button.
More information about reinstalling Firefox can be found [https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/troubleshoot-and-diagnose-firefox-problems?esab=a&s=troubleshooting&r=3&as=s#w_5-reinstall-firefox here].
<b>WARNING:</b> Do not run Firefox's uninstaller or use a third party remover as part of this process, because that could permanently delete your Firefox data, including but not limited to, extensions, cache, cookies, bookmarks, personal settings and saved passwords. <u>These cannot be recovered unless they have been backed up to an external device!</u>
Please report back to see if this helped you!
    Thank you.

  • BBC Radio 4 Widget

    Hi
I am located in Seattle WA USA. I have set up a wireless network using AirPort Express. I can listen to BBC radio 4 on the computer by means of the BBC4 widget. I can stream (CD & iTunes) music over the wireless network however, I can not stream BBC radio 4 over the network using the BBC4 widget. Anybody have an idea as to what I am doing wrong?
    Thanks
    Dan
    iMac   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

I believe that iTunes is the only program that can currently stream using AirTunes over AirPort Express. Instead of using the widget you would need to be receiving the BBC stream with iTunes to get what you want to work.
