I want to love my Droid ..... but.....

I so want to love my "new" Droid. I recently purchased it from a third party and have been trying to use it now for about a week. When it works, I'm in love with it. When it doesn't, I want to throw it against something really, really HARD!
I suppose frustration is my keyword here. It will randomly freeze up. This occurs on a daily basis. I have spent hours on the internet looking up possible solutions. I have tried them all. Taking out the battery, putting it back in. Taking it out and leaving it out for 30 minutes, charging it again, putting it in airplane mode, taking it out of airplane mode. Many of these suggestions have allowed the phone to work again...but only temporarily. I think the best method of getting it to unfreeze has been the recharging and in and outs of the battery, but I certainly can't do this constantly. If I'm out of the house and it freezes, I have no choice but to wait till I get home and recharge it, which sometimes works.
I don't know what to do. I volunteer for a hotline, and not having a working cell is just not acceptable. Since this is a third party phone, what would happen if I took it in to Verizon? Would they help me?
Please give me some advice.... as I state, I LOVE the Droid.....maybe just not necessarily mine!

Wish I could help you but my son and I are as flustered as you,
We get the freezing and have taken it in 3 times, only to get the same response, "take the battery out", well we are doing that daily and it still happens (this phone was bought new less than a year ago)
We were told the apps could be affecting it although they ran a test and did not believe it was a problem, so then they cleansed it and started over, same freezing,
Group emails freeze the screen, some times emails will go to the wrong person, it will show up as going one place and someone totally random in the contact list will get it, (no they are not even close to each other in the contact list)
We have been back to the local stores more times than I can count and now are told there is nothing we can do but complain to verizon directly since the phone is one year old, they will not give any discount on a trade in or trade up, so I believe some of these phones have "issues" that they do not have a clue why they happen,

It's possible the DNS setting your ISP is using are interfering. Although your PC works OK Macs can be sensitive to DNS settings. Here is a MacWorld DNS Troubleshooting article that explains the issue and below is how to fix it.
1. System preferences
2. Network
3. Click Advanced
4. Click DNS tab
5. Click + sign
6. Add 208.67.222.222
7. Click + sign
8. Add 208.67.220.220
9. Click OK.
10. Exit System Preferences
11. Try out your MBP and report what happened.

I sit here day after day, checking every once in a while the comments and posts/ and about all the people screaming they have this problem and that problem with thier new phones.
Well, I'd like to be the one to say- I LOVE MY DROID X !! I have had no problems with my phone AT ALL !! If I have a problem on making it do something, I take the time to research it and get it solved myself. This phone is a DREAM COME TRUE!

I too am really, really happy with the phone. It is my first smartphone. Service on the phone is phenomenal, sound quality, picture quality!
I am a little shocked at how people are throwing temper tantrums about shipping time, availablity and minor issues. It's technology and electronics people! When it is mass produced, there will be lemons! People are acting like 3 year olds "I want it now! I don't want to wait!" Really??? You can't wait one more day or one more week to get something that is in high demand and they scream about how bad VZW is and how terrible the service is. I truly believe that VZW is doing everything they can to provide great service (as usual) and within reasonable timelines and human capabilities. You think VZW will hurry up and call you because you write a little rant on the forum??? Why would anyone hurry up and contact someone who has a screw loose and is looking to pin someone to the wall?
It is disgusting how people act really. I have had lemon phones before-- and if you call nicely and have your issues logged they will work to resolve the issues the best they can. Its electronics people: might want to keep one of your old phones on hand just in case something goes wrong and you have a back-up while you get your fixed or replaced.

I took 3 minutes out of my day to write Customer Service and thank them for the help that they provided me in the upgrade process-- they did go out of their way for me to upgrade-- and I let them know that I appreciated that.

I have decided to go with your ideas. I am setting my sights temporarily on a lower level of wifi-only functionality and limiting its movement while I save for a newer rev. I will save the $80/month that I am currently paying Verizon, and in 4-5 months will have enough for the replacement cost. Wifi features will suit me fine and if I'm desparate for, say, navigation (I'll find a solution).
I also appreciate those who understood my story / style. The iPad has changed my life in ways I hadn't seen coming. Good example: Have you seen the Dankam app which corrects colorblindness? If you are colorblind, you will be able to see what other folks usually see. I was overwhelmed the other day at the conservatory of flowers. I saw pink in the sky at sunset in San Francisco for the first time. I always heard it was there but didn't understand what they meant really. There are several types of green in the tree leaves here..they're not uniform...I didn't know or see that before. It's amazing if you're colorblind. It reminds me of being a kid when my sister got her first hearing aid. That's the kind of functionality this is being built first on iOS and that's why there's really no defecting for me.
(DWB, those metaphors don't fit really even if I just wanted something for free. But I know you are sick of people whining about this and I know what you meant.)

Sounds like a file association issue in Windows. Right click on the files of interest and select Open With>Choose Default Program and select the program you want used (be sure the "always use" box is checked. The Acrobat installation should not have done this change, but this is the process to make the change on each file type.

I want to buy and iphone BUT....

I live overseas, a place where they don't sell iphones. It's all an open network here with people changing carriers all the time and most people are just pay as you go. I'm a Mac guy..I've got my Macbook Pro and I need a phone..I would love an iPhone but I don't want one with a contract from back home as I'm not living there. This may sound stupid but is it legal to get a second hand iPhone and use it here by just inserting a local SIM card inside the phone? Is this legal to do? All I want is to be able to use my iphone (not really concerned about even using it for internet purposes) but I know there is this thing where phones are locked and unlocking them in illegal. I don't want to do anything illegal, I just want to be able to put a local SIM card in my phone. Does this make sense?

You cannot buy a legally unlocked iPhone in the US or Canada. You can in Italy, UK, Hong Kong, Peoples Republic of China, France and Australia. Plus a few others I forgot. However, iPhones are only repaired in the country where purchased. To be sure of getting a legally unlocked phone you would buy it directly from Apple or an Apple authorized reseller (e.g., Carphone Warehouse in the UK).

Dear Apple: love Aperture 3, but . . .

For any professional/semi-pro/amateur photogs out there who just downloaded Aperture 3 and want to love it.
I'm a semi-pro photog who's been using Aperture since the beginning. Am very impressed by the layout, the massive improvements(this is like a whole new software program, someone at Apple should get a promotion), and the power of this program. I have been waiting for Aperture strong suits- workflow from import to print, ease of use, powerful RAW editing- to overpower the speed and versatility of Lightroom.
I love Aperture, but lightroom has always been faster. The combination of a lightning-fast program like PhotoMechanic plus Photoshop is hard to beat, and although PM is faster than LR, LR still beats Aperture on speed.
It's for this reason I'm a tad disappointed in Aperture 3. I'm running 10.6 on an iMac 2.66 Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo w/ 4 GB RAM, purchased summer 2009. My aperture 3 library is relocated on an external hard drive via FireWire.
While browsing and basic editing is quite fast and an improvement over Aperture 2, edits like noise reduction, sharpening, dodging and burning(thanks for the quick brush feature, Apple! I love it), and just rendering previews at medium quality takes anywhere from 10 seconds(rendering preview) to 3 minutes(noise reduction). I'm a patient man, but when I've got 1000 wedding pictures to blow through, I don't want to wait. I'd rather pop these into Photo Mechanic, pick the ones I like, then bring them into Aperture or LR.
Again, I love this program, that's why I'm saying this. I really like Maps, Faces needs work but it is a great idea, and this update is quite the improvement. But speed was at the top of my list, and it's still not there.

Mind if we ask a couple of questions? What kind of camera are you using? I'm curious if it's a 20+ MP camera or something in a medium format. I shoot with a Canon 7D and don't have near the slowness you're describing.
Also, your external disk. Is it using Firewire 800? Also, is it some sort of raid array setup for speed over redundancy? I have two external array's myself. One setup for speed, and one setup for redundancy. I regularly backup to my "slow" array and run things from the "fast" array.
One last thing. Have you tried rebuilding your thumbnails and/or previews? I am trying that now in order to see if that will help speed my system up a bit...

Pixelmator or Gimp are both nice tools for advanced image processing and compositing. I.e. Gimp can do pretty much the same as Phtoshop. You might also have a look at digikam http://www.digikam.org/drupal/download/binary
Digikam is not just an advanced image processing and compositing program, it is also content management system like Aperture or iPhoto.
I also find GraphicConverter a nice tool, but it is not free.
If you want your image editing tools to integrate well with Aperture, I would look first at the available plug-ins, start with the plug-ins offered in the Aperture pull-down menu

You'll never get me anywhere near a BlackBerry ever again. They do have plenty of functions, but they also have some of the worst computer-human interactions of any device I've ever seen. It's like it was designed by an alien race that hates homo sapiens.
Heck, I couldn't even reliably grip my BB without hanging up on people, because some super genius decided that the button on the side under your thumb was a good place to locate the "End Call" function.
No web access and no DUN profile meant I had to keep a completely separate device around for web surfing. And it's supposedly nifty push email can only access ONE email account, namely my work account. Fine if you're a corporate IT drone. For the rest of us, not so much.
There's no way anyone can tell me that a device that lets me read REAL emails on MULTIPLE accounts and view REAL web pages isn't better.
Doubtless, Apple intends to update the phone further, and I'm looking forward to it. But it's already the best smartphone I've ever used, just for having software the isn't brain dead, like most of them are.
PS. Don't even get me started on Windows Mobile devices. Yuck.

This is a tedious solution, which is stupid! And some users report an inability to reauthorize a computer after an "en masse” deauthorization. I can’t believe Apple doesn’t provide a list or menu to find out which computers you’ve authorized! Obviously, APPLE knows (or else they couldn’t tell us how many computers we have authorized)--so why can’t they give us access to that information about our own computers??!!!
And for an already-authorized computer with a hard drive that’s since been replaced and upgraded from Mavericks to Yosemite, would it be recognized as a “new computer” and require authorization? Would its previous incarnation (i.e., with the old hard drive and OS) be considered a separate computer? Some users report they can’t authorize a computer after an OS upgrade because of that. Can’t believe we have to do such a bass-ackwards kludge!

Try using RecBoot to kick it out of recovery mode. If that does not work, try a manual install, as outlined in link below. If it STILL keeps entering recovery mode, you most likely need a new logic board.
