I am printing report cards from a web page and the watermark is overwhelming. Can I make it lighter?

When images have a watermark then that means that they are (copy) protected and you need to contact the site and possibly buy the image to get one without the watermark.

Want to make a bootable clone...which software should I use?

After an accident with my previous laptop I've realised the importance of backing up all my stuff.
I decided on an OWC Mercury Elite-AL external hard drive and now it's arrived I want to make a bootable clone of my HD. Has anyone who has an OWC Drive tried the software that comes with it and is it any good? It's called intech Speedtools.
I've heard a lot of people on here talk about Carbon Copy Cloner and SuperDuper. Which is the best (and easiest cos I'm pretty stupid) would you say or are there others I should consider? A while ago I remember reading CCC wasn't compatible with Tiger. Is this still a problem?
Any advice, I'd be grateful...

You can make a clone using Disk Utility's restore function. I haven't tried it in a while though because it kept making three invisible folder visible on the clone. That was supposedly fixed with a 10.4 update but it kept happening to me.
Carbon Copy Cloner isn't yet truly Tiger compatible is my understanding. It hasn't been updated since the 10.3 days. Many have reported that it's started working again if you install the 10.4.2 update. I myself have been making clones of my machine with it since then and haven't had any issues. Except for some reason, I have to select the destination disk first instead of the source, otherwise the app has crashed on me on occasion.
Super Duper has a lot of fans and got a great write-up in Macworld. It's shareware but looks very easy to use. If I wasn't in such a tight financial situation right now (my business has been a little light on customers lately), that's the one I'd buy. It's not expensive though so maybe I'm just really cheap.
I've also used Lacie Silverkeeper which was a touch difficult to understand and it also made the same three invisible folders visible that Disk Utility did. I haven't tried it or checked for updates in a while though.
I actually need to make a clone of my machine today so I'm going to try and see if Disk Utility works correctly.

I had issues in 10.4.7 as well as 10.4.8.
My problems occurred at the beginning of 10.4.8, then many users brought light to me using WEP, which was not working that great. I changed my connections to WPA2 and my problem has disappeared. If my problem didn't resolve the way it did, I would have mentioned it the next time I visited an apple store.
The bottom line is that assumptions, complaining, and self diagnostics don't get many people very far and bringing the problem to apple helps them know the incidence of this problem, and helps them develop a reliable solution.
Though some users have reported the "cold shoulder" when reporting Airport problems to apple... I hope you weren't one of them.

Specifically:
Resolution
Verify that there is nothing plugged in to the headset jack, including headsets, headphones, or adapters.
Make sure the Ring/Silent switch is not switched to silent.
While on the Home screen, adjust the volume buttons. If you see the icon below, indicating that headphones are attached, there may be debris or an object lodged in the headset jack:
Check the headset jack. If there is an object lodged in the headset jack that is not easily removed, have the iPhone serviced to remove object.
For Original iPhone: If there is light debris, such as lint, in the headset jack, try connecting a pair of headphones to the headset jack and then remove the headphones. Repeat this several times to remove the debris.
If you have installed a protective film on the display, either ensure that the receiver is not covered or remove the film completely.
Check the receiver mesh (which is on the top front of the device, above the display). If it appears blocked, use a clean, small, dry, soft-bristled brush to carefully and gently brush away any debris.
If you have paired with a Bluetooth headset that is nearby, either use the headset or turn Bluetooth off (chooseSettings > General > Bluetooth).
Restart the iPhone.
If restarting the iPhone doesn't resolve the issue, try restoring the device.

Bubbles pop out of it, and slowly two letters some out of it like

Now maybe you have a sequence in your imagination which gives
you an idea of what i need, so can this be done in Flash CS3/CS4
(Most favorably without using a 3rd party tool) ?

Draw two squares and create a blend between them. Then apply the 3-D to the blend, like this:
You'll have to work with the angles and perspective to make it match, but you could start with the setting you used when making the shelves.

i want to make a simple line chart using the data in two nonadjacent columns.
it seems that the easiest way to do this is to export the sheet to google docs and use THEIR charting, which is a two-click deal.
is there an easy way to do this in numbers?

available everywhere, basic, more difficult with actual data flexibility, but you can use what you've got.
the whole emphasis on numbers seems to be how pretty i can make displays, but not a lot of emphasis on making it easy to make things work.
can anyone shed some light on how to make this simple instead of pretty?

You can definitely use the technique I mentioned to order the columns to make it easy to chart:
Here I created a table (the top one) to hold the original data and make a second table (the lower one) to pull data into two adjacent columns:

Then highlight the data in the table to chart, and selec the chart type from the menu (I suggest the bar chart which is the first item in the chart tool menu):

Do I Need Photoshop to Make a Watermark

All the posts I've seen about making a watermark for Aperture tell me to create it as a PSD file on Photoshop. Maybe I'm missing something, but I've been using Aperture instead of getting Photoshop. Do I really need to buy Photoshop just to be able to make a watermark that works on Aperture? Is there another simpler way to make a file that will work, like Powerpoint or Word (though I've tried both, with no luck)?

Not if you choose to use a text watermark. Not my personal choice but it's possible.
also when using Borderfx Aperture will create another TIFF file so for every picture you want a watermark for you'll end up with a duplicate file
Not if you use the export plugin (instead of the editor plugin). Both come with the install.
That said I agree the watermark feature can be weird sometimes. I've created a few logos for certain image sizes I tend to use with watermarks. This helps a bit. Most of the problems arise when AP tries to scale things on its own.

Want to make first high-def DVD

I would like to start burning high-def DVDs. After searching this forum, it seems that (a) iDVD is not yet set up to burn full high-def video to DVD and (b) Toast 10 might be the best option.
How do I determine if my Mac Pro has the appropriate hardware to burn to a blu-ray DVD? Will Toast 10 burn to a blu-ray DVD that will work in a blu-ray player? If the duration of the video is sufficiently short, can it be burned to a standard DVD and, if so, will it play back in full high-def on a blu-ray player?

If you want to make a homemade DVD look professional, you need:
1. Cameras with better color
2. Tripod
3. Excellent lighting
4. Professional encoder for mpeg2; with software, set it to multipass and maximum quality. It may take many times real time to encode
5. Proper shooting techniques, so that you're not always moving or panning, which would tax the encoder
6. Color correction, to make it as vivid as desired
7. Proper optics, i.e. something with a short depth of field to add complexity to the image
8. Proper directing
9. A format of film or video which is not highly compressed (like HDV or AVCHD) and introduces artifacts
10. A proper soundtrack and sound editor, which will make it "look" better
11. Dual layer discs allow you to increase your bitrate
So, a homemade DVD and a professional one have very little in common. The fact that they are both SD has little to do with anything.

Make a blinking light

Hello,
I am trying to make a blinking light on keyframes of a project. The project talks about this blinking light asks questions concerning this blinking light. I have a video playing at frame 10 on another layer. I tried to put a still of the light off on frame 10, then the light on at frame 13, then off again at frame 15. I then put classic tweens between the frames so 10 would tween to 13 which would tween to 15. In frame 15 actionscript 2.0 I wrote "gotoAndPlay (13)" I need it to go to 13 so it doesn't start my video again which is on frame 10.
The problem is, when I put the tweens in, it disables the image on frame 13. So it appears the lights are off when played.
My project is in actionscript 2.0.

To create blinking light movie clip:
1. create a "light on" image (in another program) the exact pixel dimensions that will be used in Flash.
2. create a "light off" image (in another program) the exact pixel dimensions that will be used in Flash.
3. import both images into the Flash Library
4. in your main Flash .fla, click "Insert" in the main menu, then "New Symbol", then choose the "Movie Clip" type (do not crate the movie clip in the main timline).
5. Now create your on-off blinking light in this movie clip. It has it's own timeline, layers, etc. and is completely separate from the main time fime.
6. Movie clip will now appear in the Library (it is not on the stage).
7. When you want to add this mc to the main time line, create a new keyframe (F6) and drag/drop the movie clip into the frame on the maine timeline where you want it.
8. give that mc an instance name down in the Properties panel.
Now you have a working mc that can be incorporated into the main timeline as needed.
When timeline gets to the frame with the video, remove the blinking light mc if you want, or leave it on.

I've been unable to locate an app that will do this. The Photos app that comes with the phone or iPad has extremely limited duration controls. PhotoStream seems to load everything from my phone or iPad not allowing me to just load up a set group of images.
iPhoto for iPad is getting some terrible recent reviews. I tried a couple other free apps but they don't use Airplay.
I can do something like this with iPhoto and my MB Air, but it's kind of ugly to have the computer open in order to connect by Airplay to my Apple TV. I've thought the iPad or iPhone would be a lower profile controller.
Am I out of luck?

I have an iPad 4 and a macbook pro and I want to connect them and make my ipad a second monitor. I know that I have to download an app but I want to make sure that I get the best/right one.
I also saw that I can connect my ipad to my computer and control my computer from my ipad, so if anyone has experience with either of these things let me know!

If you plan on using your iPad as a semi permanent second display when working at your Mac, if you plan to do this for long periods of time, make sure your iPad is plugged into power.
These remote display apps tend to be more of a drain on the iPad's battery. Especially so if the remote display app uses Bluetooth instead of over WiFi.
I like and use an app called Air Display.
For using your iPad as a remote client to run your Mac remotely, there are a few decent apps for thiis, but it depend so what you really want to do.
I wanted remote control of my Mac, locally, so I use a remote app called SplashTop remote.
If you need remote location control of your Mac, also, there are other apps for that like LogMeIn and Team Viewer to name a few.
