I want to make iTunes my default music player + P.S.

RE: music &/or video playing on my iMac
What is the path that I must take to find out where to set iTunes as the default music/video player? I believe that I have QuickTime at this point, but have learned that for the music player, iTunes is the preferred application. One can import, organize, browse, plan, and burn all in the same application. So.... I am going to change over but need to know where it is. I know it is in System Preferences but can anyone steer me in the right direction? Thank you.
P.S.: I now have music automatically starting and looping on a page in my website. I am going to add more music to my pages, too.

Hi Lorna...
Still up, huh? Me too.
.......... Lorna says ................................................
I was up late last night, though not as late as the time I went to bed at 6 AM. And then woke up at 9 AM.
I don't think you need to do anything really to have
iTunes handle your audio files. Keep in mind that in
general, iTunes=audio, and QuickTime player=video.
I believe that OS X is already set up along these
lines and the appropriate application will open up
according to file types and file extensions....
.......... Lorna says ................................................
But James every now and again I deal with some sort of programlet or another, and it asks me whether or not I want to have THAT program as my default handler of (whatever). In the past (but probably prior to Tiger) I have accepted the idea because it seemed sane and probably appropriate. I know that in the past, it was a matter of choice between iTunes and QuickTime.
This
is not to say, though, that the occasional podcast
or ITMS video file can't be played in iTunes and
that QuickTime player can't also open up audio
files.
.......... Lorna says ................................................
Aha. My podcasts come in thru iTunes. That is how I accidentally discovered (the other night) that I had probably clicked onto someone's podcast icon. It had lovely music on it.
Ultimately, everything is part of the same
thing. That's what is so easy about using
Macs...things just work.
So no worries, Lorna.... I have added some audio to
my website, too....dedicated to you, Lorna... It's
just baby sounds, but hey...it's SOUND!
.......... Lorna says ................................................
Those sounds are very sweet. Baby squeals are always heart tuggers. Innocent, vulnerable creatures always have a straight path to the heart, and thus so do the little creature sounds that they make.
I am soon going to work on my second song for another page. As you know, I began it last night.
(The only semi-nightmare scenario I see is me not being too acquainted with the html page, and maybe sneezing and my mouse erases data on the page and everything on that page gets wiped out. I am a little bit (a lot) afraid of messing up changing the html on the new page. 8-( 8-( 8-( And Apnewbie is somewhere in the mountains with his son. HahahahahahaHAHAHA!
OK. Back to serious controlled business here.

  • How do I make iTunes my default music player instead of Quicktime?

First let me say I'm not very tech savy so this could all be something simple that I'm overlooking but iTunes used to be my default player on my mac but now when I try to play music files from other devices such as a flash drive it prompts Quicktime to start up. Any ideas on how to change this back to iTunes?

Select a document in the Finder, choose Get Info from the File menu, click on Open With, select the desired application, and press the Change All button.

  • Lacking sufficent privilges to make ITUNES the default Audio player.

Never had any problems until updating to this latest version of ITUNES but it now gives me the "you lack sufficent privilages" message whenever I try to set ITUNES as the default player for audio files in preferances.
I've set my permissions on MY DOCUMENTS/MY MUSIC and all sub-folders/files to full control for everyone and yet this problem persists.
I have went into program access control and set ITUNES as default and it acts like it is setting it as default but when I open ITUNES it asks me if I want to set it to default player I check yes and it promply tells me I lack sufficent privilages to do so.
I am of coure running as an ADMIN account.
I am running XP PRO with all latest updates and patches
    SPYBOT S&D
    SpywareBlaster
    AVG anti-virus
    AD-AWARE SE
    COMODO Firewall
I have tried changing things with all of the above security items turned off on 2 differant ADMIN level accounts and the result is the same...no joy
My computer has Two ADMIN level accounts on it and a VISITOR account with limited privilages...could the limited Privilage account be causing a problem as it was added after my original install of ITUNEs (version 6.whatever) and was already installed on the computer when I installed the current upgraded version.
Since ITUNES installs it's startup ICON in the ALL/USERS folder could the fact that the one account has limited privilages prevent allowing the change to be made on all accounts??
If anyone has the solution please respond...this version should be called LOONEYTUNES cause that is where it is driving me!!

It makes and keeps all the changes I make in preferances with the exception of making ITUNES the default audio player. The only solution or work around has been to go and right click on say a MP3 file select file/open with/select ITUNES check the box always open with this program box and then it will open the Mp3 files with ITUNES.
It kinda gets what I want done I suppose, but I, like the Dyson vacuum guy on TV believe things "should work as they as supposed to".
As yet ITUNES Ver.7 has been a disappointment, as long as windows XP has been around and as widspread as the usage of ITUNES is on windows platrom machines, IMHO there is no excuse for these kind of compatability issues.

  • Stopping iTunes being default music player

I have several players, such as RealPlayer, QuickTime and VLC, capable of playing mp3, AAIF and other types of music files already on my computer. Whenever I double-click one of these files, it is always iTunes that opens and starts playing the file. How can I prevent iTunes being the default player?

Select a document, choose Get Info from the File menu, specify the correct application under Open With, click on Change All, and confirm this action.

ok that almost worked lol. when i get to configuration and click on microsoft windows, there is no way for me to change it. however if i go to custom and switch it back to iTunes, i don't think it saves. because when i open iTunes this pop up comes up saying "windows can perform the same action each time you connect this device. what do you want windows to do?" and then it has real player or take no action as my only options.

  • Why Doesn't Making iTunes Your Default Media Player Always Work?

I bought a new hard drive on my desktop PC and I installed Windows 7 Pro on it.  I just installed iTunes version 10.6.1.7.  Everything that's in my itunes music folder seems to be playing fine.
When I inserted an mp3 audio file (from Dropbox)into my iTunes folder and double-clicked to play it, Windows Media Player opened and played it.  So I opened the Auto Play window in Windows Control Panel to make iTunes my default audio player.
I was able to set iTunes as my default player when I insert an audio CD into my PC.  iTues also plays songs that I download from the internet.  But when I attempted to select iTunes as my default player for audio files that I copied and pasted into the iTunes folder, it wasn't listed on the pulldown menu. The only choices listed on the pulldown menu are:
    Windows Media Player
Input Pictures & Video Using Dropbox
Open folder to view files using Windows Explorer
    Take No Action and

  • Vista - how do you make iTunes the default player for audio files?

Having started using iTunes on a new Vista PC, I've found that it defaults back to Windows Media as the default audio file player every time the machine is rebooted.
But worse than that, I cannot find any option to make iTunes the default player for MP3 files - under the Vista settings, the ONLY option offered is Windows Media: there is not even a box to tick for iTunes.
Have others found this? Is there any way around this?
(I thought that Microsoft was legally precluded from making these kind of enforced settings now???)

Although I now seem to have successfully made iTunes the default player for audio files, iTunes has started putting up this message:
"The iTunes Music Library file cannot be saved. You do not have enough access privileges for this operation."
A quick scan of the forum shows this problem has come up quite a few times, but I'm far from clear if there is a definitive answer/solution. I am the administrator for the computer. It sounds worrying that the Library file is not being saved - should I be worried?

Is it possible to set a default music player for the music on my external while still keeping my iTunes the default player on my Mac ?

There is no setting in the iPhone to set another default music player. The default is Music. If you are using another application, you are at the mercy of how that application operates as far as what occurs when it stops or errors out. The car is looking for music to play.

How to make iTunes recognize the music library in my external hard drive after instaIling Yosemite? I tried re-setting the media folder location, but it didn't work. What else should I do?

The issue is not related to the external drive. iTunes Match has difficulties matching tracks ripped fom CDs because they may differ slightly from the versions on sale in iTunes. You can try the match again. Otherwise do a search of this forum. There are already many discussions on this subject here that may help you.
