I want to make photoshop elements smaller on my screen

Everytime I use elements it "takes over the entire screen" on my macbook pro or i-mac. Is there a way like on my pc to shrink or minimize photoshop?? Any help would be great!!

Which version of photoshop elements do you have?
You should be able to hover your mouse over the lower right corner of the pse application until you
see a black double arrow and then drag the window smaller.
You can also move the pse window drag dragging on the top dark grey part just above where it says Quick, Guided and Expert.
If you want it full screen again, press the Green Maximize Button.

Photoshop elements 10 should be able to open those files if you update to camera raw 6.7

If on the Adobe site, make sure to do it from a Mac. If you are using a windows computer to do it, you may not get the Mac option.

I agree.
It was very useful to reduce everything to small and quickly scan down looking for missing artwork.
Particularly useful when I only connect to the machine with iTunes via screen sharing, so everything can be a bit slower to scroll through at times.
In fact, itunes 11 when used purely as a server for Apple TV etc is a downgrade in usability IMO, as they've got rid of some of the useful views that helped me manage my library remotely.

I cannot answer regarding compatibility, but there is no download available for PSE6 if you would need one for this. You might be able to copy the installation files from a disk to some other removable media that the machine accepts. Upgrading to PSE7 would not be possible mainly because Adobe does not sell older versions of their software.

If you have a CD for your product (I assume that is where you got the serial number from!!) then you can insert it in the drive on your new machine and install it in the usual way.
If the new machine hasn't got a CD/DVD drive then you can use another machine and copy the contents of the CD to a flash drive and use the USB port on the new machine to install the product.
Of course you can buy an external DVD drive and use it as well if that is what you want to do.
If, however, you don't have a CD for your product then I am afraid it is difficult to download it from Adobe website.

I got photoshop elements 10 with my new Intuos 5 drawing tablet. On my computer I already had two older versions of pse, versions 5 and 9. These two worked perfectly fine, till yesterday, they just wouldn't launch start anymore. I installed elements 10 on my computer, and this one didn't work either. I've looked on several forums and sites, and tried almost everything, like deleting preferences files, moving twain files, reïnstalling etc. But nothing worked for me. Am I doing something wrong? My computer search for a problem and it told me something about a compability problem. Please help me, I really want to use photoshop elements again and try out my new drawingtablet.

My mac is running OS 10.4.11, and I want to trial Photoshop Elements 8, but can't find a valid download or buy link anywhere! I can't use Elements 9 or 10, due to the operating system, and not keen to upgrade OS at the moment as the computer is stable and happy. Can anyone provide assistance, thank you.

That's what I'm saying. I don't think other companies keep old versions available once a new version is released, either. It's not a matter of "forced obsolescence", just common sense -- why continue offering an old version when the new version has the fixes in it?

If it's a new laptop then I assume the OS is also the latest one.
Photoshop Elements 5 is a very very old software and unsupported on latest OS like Windows 8.1 or Mac 10.9.2
Please consider purchasing the latest version of PSE12.

Photoshop Elements 11 trial version screen too large to view

I cannot use Photoshop Elements 11 because the screen is too wide and I cannot change the size.
The tools are not visable since the Photoshop Editor brings up such a wide screen.
If this can be fixed, I would also like to know how to change the background color in a photo.

The minimum resolution supported by PSE 11 is 1024 *768. So if your screen resolution is higher than this , then all controls in the application should be properly visible. Even if the screen seems to wide then hover your mouse on the extreme right side of the app until you see a dragging arrow and then drag until it fits the screen
To your second question the answer is that there are many ways to change a background in PSE which depends upon what background in the image you want to replace and what do you want the background to look like. It would be easier to answer this if you can post a screenshot of the image .

In case you want to put a different background from your cd behind you image follow these steps:
1. With a selection tool, magic wand, magnetic lasso, lasso or polygon lasso, select your portrait. How well this looks will depend upon your skill in making the selection.
2. Now that the selection is complete, go to menu Select > Save Selection, give it a name and click OK. If you need to bring it back, Select > Load Selection.
3. With the selection still visible, Edit > Copy, then Edit > Paste. You should see two layers, one the Background the other Layer 1. Click the "eye" in the Background Layer (left most column in the Layer palette.) Now you see only what you selected.
4. Without closing the image you have been working on, Open the background image you want to use. Make adjustments in pane size so you can see both images.
5. Click on the selection layer you made "your portrait" to make it your focus. Select the Move tool, click on the "portrait", hold and drag to the "background" image.
6. If you need to resize the "portrait", select the Transformation tool, Ctrl+T, and use the handles to resize. Pressing the Shift key and grabbing a corner handle will resize the image maintaining it proportion.

Is there a way to make Photoshop Elements 5 (2006) compatible to a Dell Windows 7 laptop?

I received a copy of Photoshop Elements 5 (2006) and have a Dell Windows 7. I installed and registered my name to the software, but am aware that the program is compatible with Windows Vista or XP. Is there a way to make it compatible to my computer and/or update/upgrade to a more recent version? If there is no way to make the program work for my computer, is there a way to un-register my name from it?

Do you get any problems when trying to run the software on Windows 7? If yes, try to run it under Windows XP or Vista Compatibility Mode.

Is there any reason I should want to install Photoshop Elements?

I have Photoshop CS5 and received Photoshop Elements 9 as part of a bundle with a purchased product. I don't know what Photoshop Elements is or if it is a simpler less powerful version of Photoshop CS5. In any case, I am not sure if I should even bother to install it or if it is going to confuse things up for me...
What do you recommend I do?

I would think so, but I don't know what the new features would be in using PS.
If it can do more fantasy etc...I would like it - I have a lot of baby and old pictures to work with and I would like to add like a glamour look - fancy and elegant swirls and cascading stars...
I know this could be done in PSE, but if I can go further in PS, maybe learning it there would be best.
I don't want to start from square one - I was okay playing with PSCS1 I think a long time ago.
I have a friend that uses CS5 and has never used a PSE program - she said it would be too confusing - I don't know that I agree.
Maybe a few good classes could get me going.
I love photography - do pretty well at it - and would like to enhance - do some digital scrapping - I am a clean scrapper - one photo showcased on a page - scrapping just enough to feel the photo's meaing.

I wanted to move photoshop elements to my new laptop but I can't deactivate it on my old mac, why won't it let me?

Also please note there is no Deactivate button in the help bar of Elements. All I really want to do is move photoshop Elements from my old mac to my new laptop but it says "the product is already registered" and I need to unregister it so I can install it onto my laptop.

Can you please check if you are connected to the internet on your old mac while deactivating your product.
Also can you please share a screenshot of the error that you are getting at your end.
For Photoshop Elements version 13, under help you will find an option "sign out".
Please select "sign out" and then click on the "sign out" button on the screen that comes up.
This should get the product deactivated on your old mac.
