i want to move a file from my mac to my ipad - put it on the cloud actually its a word folder with many files id like to include it on my ipad quickoffice pro app

think you have to connect the ipad by usb cable and navigate to it in itunes and click on the applications tab
and scroll down and add it that way
with ios devices you do not have a difrect access to any sort of filesystem or storage

You cannot. You have to make your own download by signing into the App Store using your Apple ID then downloading the file.
If you just want to install it on your computer, then copy the file to a flash drive and transfer it to your computer.

Drag or copy the file into the Automatically Add to iTunes folder in your library (default location C:\Users\user_name\Music\iTunes\iTunes Media), or add it manually using File > Add File to Library ... If the file is compatible with iTunes it'll be added to your library and can then be synced with your iPad.

Connect the external drive to your Mac and drag the files from it to your Mac's internal drive. Then dismount and disconnect the external drive, connect the 1TB external drive, and drag the files from the internal drive onto the external. Nothing will have been deleted from any of the drives up to this point; the files will only have been copied. Verify that the files are readable. There's no reason they shouldn't be; this is just a precaution.
Now if you wish to delete the files from any of the drives, drag them to the Trash, and Empty the Trash while the drive from which they came is still connected. If you disconnect the drive before emptying the Trash, the files you were trying to remove from it won't be deleted. They'll remain in the Trash and continue to take up space on the drive.
Note that if your external drives are in NTFS format, you won't be able to write anything to them or delete anything from them, though you will be able to read and copy the files they contain. The NTFS disk format is read-only to the Mac OS, unless you have a third-party NTFS driver installed. To make your drives cross-platform readable and writable, you must reformat them in the FAT32 or ExFAT format.

I want to move all files to an external drive--how?

I'm working on a Mac Pro. Using iMovie 9, I've been loading video from 10 years to archive and edit it all. I'm quickly using up remaining space on my primary hard drive (1 TB). I have a second drive (also 1 TB) with plenty of room. Can I move all the "Event" files (haven't started processing them yet) to this second drive? There doesn't seem to be any way to do this. Basically, I just want to move the whole iMovie operation to another drive and work from there. I've read some posts on this but the instructions don't make sense to me and I can't get anywhere.

The safest way is to follow the instructions in the post and move Events from within iMovie.
In your case, if you have not started ANY projects, you can move the events in the Finder and they will still work.
The safest way to do this would be to move a single Event using iMovie. This will create the right Events folder with the right name in the right place. Then drag the rest using the Finder. This will be a little quicker.
Restart iMovie and it should see them all and you are good to go.
Remember that the external drive must be formatted as MacOS Extended (journaled). FAT 32 drives would have to be reformatted before they can be used in iMovie.

Computer crashed, now I want to move my files

My computer crashed a few weeks ago and before re-install Leopard I want to move some of my files onto an external harddrive. WHAT KEYS should I press while I start up my computer to get to the right screen? As in, when I start up my computer I want to see a screen that lists all my files so I can copy some onto an external harddrive. I have already tried copying my entire harddrive and that did not work.
I really need to know how to copy these files onto an external harddrive, so please don't just tell me to do archive and install!

If you have access to another Mac, connect the two together with a firewire cable (hopefully you have a FW port). And plug your external drive into the other Mac as well (not sure if you could just leave it plugged into the Macbook).
Now power up your macbook (the other computer should already be running) and hold down the "T" until you see a floating FW symbol. Your Macbook should show up on the desktop of the other Mac. You should be able to drag your Home folder or whatever files you need to the external drive.

There are some good programs that you could use to convert the format, Handbrake or Mpegstreamclip are two good free ones. Convert them to MP4 and then try importing them again.

Yes. And you should not have moved that folder. Put it back. To move your iTunes library move the folder from User's Music.

I have a an external hard drive formatted for Windows, and I want to move those files to a new hard drive formatted for both Windows and OS. Is this possible?

I just purchased a MB Air 13", as well as a Seagate Slim Backup Plus. I have an older external hard drive that I was using with a Dell laptop. I would like to get the files off of the older external hard drive, and onto the new Seagate drive. Is this possible? I'd also like to be able to add files going forward to the Seagate from either a PC or a Mac and be able to view/use them on the MB Air 13".

You will have to format the Seagate external HDD to a format common to both Mac and PC such as ExFAT. That should allow you to transfer files from the old HDD and still allow you to use with your MBA.

Any suggestions? Should I restore? Should I update to 7.0.6? (currently 7.0.3).
