I want to order an iMac 27" today, but...
Does the version available today (and I'm looking to upgrade/customise) come with the retina display or ar Apple trying to get rid of old stock at the same price?
Now that I am a wiser man, I have just placed my order for a 27" with 1TB Fusion, uprated to i7 and some other bits... excited now as this is my first Apple desktop purchase, other than my ipod, ipad and iphone....

Respecting to that question, you want to delete everything but leave Office. Is this correct? If so, you will have to contact with Microsoft to see if it's legal to sell your Mac with Office installed > http://www.microsoft.com/mac/support I would not sell the Mac with Office installed.
To delete everything, you will have to erase the drive and reinstall OS X. Normally, you should turn off the Mac after reinstalling OS X, but in this case, the new owner won't have Office. On the contrary, if you install Office, the owner will have to use the Mac with your settings, so there will be other steps to follow -

New iMac arrived today, but before I get it up and running...
New iMac: 21.5" iMac: OS X Snow Leopard; 3.33GHz Intel Core 2 Duo; 8 GB RAM; and 2TB Serial ATA Drive.
I will be calling AppleCare and have them walk me thru various steps to get the new machine going. One of the things I'll want to do is bring files and applications from my "old" iMac onto the new one. But....
My present (old) iMac has been running very slowing for a couple of months, at least. By that I mean internet usage. Programs don't seem to be a problem. Don't know if it's the browser or what. (Using FireFox 2.0 mostly. Takes forever to load a page.) Wondering if it's possible I have a virus. Thought that wasn't a problem for Macs, but it does, apparently happen.
If that would be the case, could I corrupt my new iMac by bringing in files and/or applications from a possibly infected machine? Or, do viruses mainly affect the System folder and things like that. (I intend to bring in tunes from iTunes, music from GarageBand 2 and Band-in-a-Box, photos, and documents).
Another quickie, albeit possibly dumb: how do you insert a CD/DVD into this new iMac? Little book that came with it doesn't tell; machine itself gives no indication. So, should the label side of CD/DVD face me (as I'm looking at the screen), or should it face the wall behind the computer?
Anticipating more questions until I get everything squared away.

Make sure there is enough free disk space. Right or control click the MacintoshHD icon. Click Get Info. In the Get Info window you will see Capacity and Available. Make sure you always have a minimum of 10% to 15% free disk space at all times.

There are no Mac viruses in the wild. And.. read here regarding anti virus and malware protection in Snow Leopard. http://www.apple.com/macosx/security/

If you install and 3rd party software such as Band-in-a-Box, check the vendor site to make sure it is compatible with Snow Leopard 10.6. Also, if you want to connect peripherals such as printers/scanners/copiers/cameras/external drives. Check those vendor sites to make sure the software/hardware is compatible with 10.6
You may have applications that run on a PowerPC that won't run on an Intel based iMac. You can
install Rosetta from the install disc that comes with your iMac in order to run those apps. Read here.

I want to buy an iMac as a Christmas gift this year and wondered if it may be possible to specifically order one with Snow Leopard? By then I imagine all machines available for sale are likely to have Lion pre-loaded, hence my question.
If I could buy one now, I would, as there are many around still with Snow Leopard - but sadly I can't manage it just at the moment.

RossThanks folks, I realise this is just a user forum of course, I was just wondering if anyone had previous experience with buying a Mac with an older system on it at a time of changeover like this. A friend has just bought a new one from an Apple store this week with Snow Leopard on it - not surprising given the newness of Lion, but I was curious to know if anyone had experience with being given a choice during a system upgrade.
And who knows...maybe Apple do look in at the forums to see what people are asking????

Hi i want to upgrade my iMac from Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to OS X Mavericks or OS X Yosemite. My software update menu dosnn´t find any updates available. Help please, what can i do to upgrade to OS X Mavericks or newer version?
Open the Mac App Store and try downloading Yosemite. If you get told it's incompatible, the computer's also incompatible with Mountain Lion and Mavericks; if desired, choose About this Mac from the Apple menu, check if the computer has at least a Xeon or Core 2 Duo(not Core Duo) CPU and 2GB of RAM, and if it does, click here and order a download code for Lion 10.7.
Back up your data and check your applications for compatibility before upgrading. In particular, Mac OS X 10.7 and newer don't support PowerPC programs such as versions of Microsoft Office prior to 2008.

You would have to buy it separately. Refurbished machines are sold as they were originally configured so you cannot customize the machine when you order it.

I just figure out that when someone try to order the iMac, the only keyboard choice is wired. I think this disapear at the same time the wireless mighty mouse arrived.

I had this problem. The stores had them in a package with the wirelesss
keyboard and mouse but they were not available on-line. I had to order on-line to get some upgrades but could not have the wireless package...Catch 22.
So when I called in my order I complained that I could not effectively get what I wanted and without much pressure I was offered a discount if I bought the wireless keyboard and mouse as extra. They knocked off £50 sterling (I'm in the UK) from the total cost. So, for about £40 more (which was the extra cost of the wireless pack in the store) I got what I wanted. With the added bonus of having a spare wired mouse and keyboard which are currently still all wrapped up in their box.
I only placed my order on the 17th and receieved it last Friday so it should be a current deal. I hope it is not too late to help you out.

Selecting the correct adapter and cable depends on which year model iMac you have and what inputs the TV has?
Check the User's Guide that came with your iMac or your Spec's at > Apple - Support - Technical Specifications
to see if your iMac has a Mini-DVI or Mini DisplayPort and then select that adapter with the correct connection for the TV.
Example: if you have a 2010 or 2011 iMac and an HDMI ready TV, then you would want the > Moshi Mini DP to HDMI Adapter with Audio Support - Apple Store (U.S.) -
I want to connect my IMAC to TV with HDMI cable. I did it before going to Dispaly and Arrangments and then mirror. Now when I go to display I dont have to option of arrangements. Olny {Display and Color} pops up. Any ideas what happend to arrengements?
For the "Arangements" option to appear, the external display must be turned on with the correct input selected and connected to the computer. Then close system prefs, reopen, go to "Display" and "Arrangement" will be along the top.

I would like to order more than one photo on iPhoto. I have downloaded one picture, and then my choices are cancel and buy now. I would like to download other photos to have them printed, too. How do I do that?
Wich version of iPhoto do you have? You need iPhoto '09 or '11 to order prints.
Make an album of all photos you want to order in the same order.
Then select all photos at once, when you use Share > order prints.
You should see a panel like this, where you can mark the quantities. The screenshot is from iPhoto 9.6: -

You can't.
