If you wanna get into FPS (first person shooter) games, then you really should take a look at the game that made FPS a top shelf hit --- Counter Strike. There are a number of games to go off from there, but in the gaming mecca of greatness there is no other game that even closely compares when it comes to the legacy of CS. This is based on the fact that the game has been around for 16 years now and still garners a huge following. It was the first ultra realistic shooter of its kind. It is addictive because it can be played in short segments as quickly as five minutes from bootup to first round or as long as you feel playing round after round. In the early games you will find out how poorly lacking your fps skills are against even moderately skilled players, and frightfully so when you face off against the relatively skilled. If it is your misfortunate to go against a pro, you will think it’s more reminiscent of Resident Evil facing off against Nemesis. This really lays out the ground work for you learning how to play these types of games, and if you stick with it, you’ll be getting better and better in no time. I honestly can’t recommend another game that will train you and entertain you so much in a single sitting. The only warning I have for you is set yourself some time limits or you will find out like many that have come before you that 5 minutes can easily become 5 hours.

So recently I synced my iPod Classic 160 GB like I did so many times and when I wanted to play some music afterwards it couldn’t find any files on the iPod anymore. However when you look in the settings it displays that ~roughly 90 GB free space is available. Seen the fact that I had about 60 gigs of music this doesn’t seem like a coincidence and I think my music is still somewhere on the ipod but the HDD isn’t recognizing it anymore.
I’ve tried resetting it, and resetting it to factory settings, which didn’t work. When connected to a desktop it won’t be recognized by iTunes, it displays an error message that the iPod cannot be read and that I have to reset it to factory settings.
I’ve spent some time researching this problem yesterday and I ran into a myriad of vaguely similar problems didn’t really offer any help. Currently I’m thinking that formatting the iPod might work, and restoring the software afterwards. However this is a rather bold strategy so I’d like to consult you here first.

Thank you for the info, with formatting my iPod I managed to connect it to iTunes again.
However..in the page you linked to there is a section about how transferring large amounts of data can dump your library. That seems to be the problem in this case. It won't even allow me to transfer more than 2 gigabytes of music per sync, if I go higher it will dump everything again. Having over >60 GB of music in my library, this is disastrous to say the least.
Do you think that there is any other solution besides the method you mentioned involving Smart Playlists?

You know, like Morrowind, Oblivion, or Skyrim. A full on rpg. I would settle for something with a similar feel to it, a science fiction setting might even be ok. If I can't play an Elder Scrolls game on my ipad, what's the next best thing?

A fair number of folks ask here for certain types of apps. In you search the app store you will get at least a couple that look like rpg games. But the form factor is not real good. Rage hd would give you a feel for what tou and cannout get on tablet. Pretty good graphics, pretty rough controls.

As you can see in my profile section, my MBP is older by 5 years, 2GB RAM and with regards to question 1 (Q1), has no problems with having all those programs open at the same time with the possible exception of Photoshop since I use Gimp instead. With twice the RAM and much overall much better specs, Photoshop shouldn't be an issue. But you listed some other activities that might need that additional RAM. But the advise most give is to not get it from Apple but from a third party.
Q5 - I always get Apple Care. Only had to use it once but it paid for itself that one time.
Sorry, can't help you much with the questions you really want answered since I won't have a new MBP until (hopefully) next week but for Q4, I believe it depends on the peripheral. My current monitors are too old to allow them to be hooked up in a chain. Supposedly, if the monitors do have the ports, you could via the MBP Thunderbolt port. The speeds are also dependent upon the peripheral. If the external hard drive is using a USB 2 port, you are limited by that speed (480 Mb/s). If it has a Thunderbolt port, then from what I understand, we, my friend, are in for some great times because I believe your RAM will have the ability to access data as fast as it can take it at 10Gb/s (and if will need those kinds of speeds, the 8GB of RAM may be the way to go). The Thunderbolt demos on YouTube where they are accessing four video files from a Raid drive, then sending them back out via Final Cut Pro to a monitor are amazing. I'll probably never push this machine to anywhere near it's limits but I can't wait to see what others do.

We do need the actual DMP file as it contains the only record of the sequence of events leading up to the crash, what drivers were loaded, and what was responsible.
We prefer at least 2 DMP files to spot trends and confirm the cause.

Try a virtualization software like vmware. It basically lets your use some of your computer's resources to run a virtual computer. You have to have a copy of the OS you want to run, for example whatever OS is supported by your legacy game. Do some searching about virtualization How-Tos and I bet you'll be able to get everything in order.
Once you have a virtual machine set up you can install your game and play it via your virtual machine.

Problems playing and hosting online games via AEBS.

Okay, I'm officially stumped. I've been trying to setup my AE base station to play a Command & Conquer Zero: Hour multiplayer games via Game Ranger. I'm connecting via Ethernet using an AE Router address of 10.0.1.1 and a computer IP address of 10.0.1.210. I've tried the following:
1. Enabled default host at 10.0.1.210
2. Turned on port mapping using the following settings:
8186 - 10.0.1.210 - 8186
8188 - 10.0.1.210 - 8188
3. Turned off the firewall
4. Turned on the firewall and created a Command & Conquer setting using the port name "Other" and inserting 8186, 8188 in both TCP and UDP port numbers.
Nothing works. When I try to join a game I get a timeout error. When I try to host a game, I can see the other players but they can't connect or see me. Any suggestions?

I have seen this in another discussions post, the number escapes me right now,
Make sure that all sound card drivers are up to date,
Make sure that you have DirectX 9.0C (Latest Version)
Type: dxdiag
Click "sound 1" or similarly named tab
Slide bar to "basic acceleration"
Exit
Try that, see if it resolves it for you.

For the Photos app you need to put the photos into different folders on your computer and then sync those folders to the iPad - you need to sync all the photos that you want on the iPad in one go, as only the most recent photo sync remains on the iPad. There are third-party apps that you can copy photos to on the iPad which I think might allow you to do slideshows, but I havn't used any of them.
With iOS 5 in the Autumn you will (assuming that it makes it to the final release) be able to (from http://www.apple.com/ios/ios5/features.html#photos) :

I want to play some DSS files

I have recorded some files using an Olympus digital dictaphone and saved the files on my Mac. I no longer have the dictaphone. The Olympus website shows that there is a free DSS player that allows you to play the files but I can't find a link to download it. Does anyone know how to do this?

Yes - had a good look around on that. The files that are avaiable are not supported by my version of the OS
The message posted when you try and open the download states "You can't open the application DSS Player-Lite for Mac because PowerPC applications are no longer supported"
However, I can't find an alterate version that is supported.

Does Virtual PC let me play online games req. windows?

I want to play some online poker games but none seem to be Mac-friendly. Does Virtual PC work for games? Will it hurt my Mac OS? Should I just get a cheap Dell running Windows?

Virtual PC "works" for pretty much anything. The problem with it is performance. I imagine that an online poker game won't be too bad, especially if it doesn't use a lot of fast-moving graphics, etc. Virtual PC costs upwards of $200 with an included Windows license, and you can get a cheap-o PC for close to that, so you might be better off buying the PC.

What to use to make online game? (NIO or IO or what)

I want to make a basic online game, but don't know what to use. I want to try NIO, but I cant find any good tutorials out there. Basically the game will be an online spaceshooter type thing where people can move around and shoot stuff. What do I use to do this? i think all I have to send between server and client is character positions, shots fired, enemies, etc.
In the past i made a chatserver, but used standard IO for that, but dont know whether or not to stick with standard IO (which has more tutorials) or NIO (which people say is "better" but I cant find good info on).

Ok, when i said lacking, it obviously meant that i looked at that already. The sun tutorial isnt really a tutorial (and it isnt indepth as the networking section). Btw if u hadnt already noticed I already tried that tutorial. I didnt like it too much.
And for those who dont know, I've tried that "tutorial" and i didtn like it too much.
Maybe I should rephrase my question: Anyone know of any other tutorials for NIO and/or mutliplayer networking?

Online games will not load...

I am running windows 7 on my hp slimline s5710f desktop computer. I switched from wireless to ethernet over 4 months ago and ever since then i have been unable to play on my online games sites. I get on the sites but the games either will not load,or they partially load,or i get a "cannot connect to server" screen and then nothing. I have tried everything,i have contacted my internet provider dozens of times,i have also contacted the game site and i get nothing but repetition and no results. Please Help!

Have you tried a system restore to a date before the problem came up? I know it means going back I believe you said 6 months, but a solution is a solution and we are running out of things to check. If you have another computer that is on your same network we can test to that.
We can also reset your IE settings back to default, but I don't believe your settings to be an issue.
To set back to default
To use the Reset Internet Explorer Settings feature from Control Panel, follow these steps:
Exit all programs, including Internet Explorer (if it is running).
If you use Windows XP, click Start, and then click Run. Type the following command in the Open box, and then press ENTER:inetcpl.cplIf you use Windows Vista, click Start. Type the following command in the Start Search box, and then press ENTER:inetcpl.cplThe Internet Options dialog box appears.
Click the Advanced tab.
Under Reset Internet Explorer settings, click Reset. Then click Reset again.
Click to select the Delete personal settings check box if you would also like to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
When Internet Explorer finishes resetting the settings, click Close in the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box.
Start Internet Explorer again.

You can try to (re)install the current Firefox 17.0.1 release if it isn't working with the current Firefox 18 beta
