I want to re load my operating system

It seems that my laptop is running much slower lately. I recently moved a lot of music etc off the hard drive and so I would like to reformat and re load the system software.
I have everything backed up on an external hard drive etc.  I am looking for some step-by-step help to do this as painless as possible.
Thanks.

First, ensure you have a valid AppleID and your Mac is registered on it. Then ensure you have SPEEDY Internet link: you will be downloading a 4.5GB monster of an installer file and your Mac will depend on the download succeeding before you can use it again.
Once ALL YOUR STUFF IS SAFE IN THE BACKUP and you have VERIFIED that the backup works and is ok. restart into Recovery Mode by holding down Command R prior to the startup chime. Go past the languages select screen. Select Disk Utility (bottom choice) and ERASE you Macintosh HD volume. Quit Disk Utility to return to the previous screen, the choose Instal OS X (first choice). Authenticate with your Apple ID and follow the onscreen instructions. When done you will have a virgin Mac once again, that you can proceed to pervert with all your backed up stuff.
Preferably have TWO backups. One of them being a bootable clone. Better safe than sorry.

I get the same error with the "DataLoadHdFile" command.
After the error happens, I cannot load any files in the directory until I
    reboot DIAdem.

    Hi punkmonkey,
I'm curious why you compare the results of the "DataLoadHdFile" command with that of the "DataFileImport" command. The former is a time-honored DAT-file-specific command for only reading the header file contents-- NOT the data, and the latter is a brand new DIAdem 9.0 function for loading all sorts of data files-- TDM files included.
If you want to load a DAT file using an OLE command, why don't you try the time-honored "DataLoad" command, which is specifically designed for loading DAT files? The "DataLoadHdFile" command is really only used to do selective loading (specific channels or rows) of part of a DAT file. Do you want to load selectively, or do you want to load all the channels from the DAT file?
When you get the same error with
the "DataLoadHdFile" command, are you executing that command also through OLE automation, or directly in DIAdem? What happens if you try both the "DataLoadHdFile" and the "DataFileImport" commands directly from DIAdem (no OLE)?

I want to install a third operating system on my macbook pro. I already have windows and i want install unix or linux in there. Is it possible??

Yes, it's possible, but if your Windows system is on a Boot Camp partition then you have to first remove it. Then create however many partitions you want for the operating systems. You have OS X on one, so you need two more - one for Windows and one for Linux. You then install Windows and Linux separately to their respective partitions. Download rEFIt
Use it as the replacement bootloader so you can properly boot from each OS properly.

  • My computer crashed and I had to re load my operation system. now itunes won't open. it says it was created by a newer version? what is that?

my computer crashed and I had to re load my operation system. now, when I try to open my itunes all I get is a message that says "can not be read because itunes was created by a newer version" what does that mean and how do I correct it. I need my music back!

As iTunes is uopgraded the newer versions require that the iTunes database be upgraded to match. It sounds like you now have an older version of the sftware attempting to load an upgraded library which it can't do.
What version of OS X are you running?
What version of iTunes are you currently running?
What versions were you running when your system crashed?

  • I currently have the Mac OS X v10.5.8 and want to get the new operating system but I don't know how to do it. I don't have the Mac App Store and can't get it because of my version. What do I do?

I currently have the Mac OS X v10.5.8 and want to get the new operating system but I don't know how to do it. I don't have the Mac App Store and can't get it because of my version. What do I do?

The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard. The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion. The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=10.6+snow+leopard&_sacat=0&_odkw=mac+os+10.6 &_osacat=0
Once you are at 10.6.8 Lion is still available from Apple. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775. to purchase it. Then within 3 days you will get an email with a code which you can use to download Lion from the App Store.  The price is still $29. You must have at least a model 2,1 MacBook.
Lion will require at least 2gb of RAM but really needs 4gb to run smoothly.
As for third party programs see this list for compatibility with 10.7 http://roaringapps.com/apps:table
Also Lion doesn't run any Power PC programs. To see if you have any Power PC programs go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info. When System Profiler comes up select Applications under Software. Then look under Kind to see if any of your applications are listed as Power PC. Universal and Intel will run under Lion.
Before Mac switched to Intel processors in 2006 they used Power PC processors from 1994 to 2005. Power PC 601 through 604, G3, G4 and G5. Applications written for the Power PC processors need the application called Rosetta to run on Intel processors. This was part of the Operating System in 10.4 and 10.5 but was an optional install in 10.6. With 10.7 Lion Apple dropped all support for Power PC applications.

I have Mac OS X Version 10.6.8 ,I want to buy the updated operating system that puts iMessage and Facetime on my Macbook Pro. What should I search for, and then purchase, in the App Store?

FaceTime can run in the version of OS X that you currently have. To get Messageyou need Mountain Lion. The protocol used by Messages is iMeassage.
The question is does your MBP meet the specs for Mountain Lion.
    iMac (Mid 2007 or newer)

  • Cannot get turbotax 2013 to load (my operating system is snow leopard, 64bit)

Cannot get turbotax 2013 to load (my operating system is snow leopard, 64bit) Disk at first sounds like it is loading, then kind of grinds around and comes to a stop. Installed apple software updates for itunes, just before trying to load turbotax, could that have any effect on my disc drive?

put in another cd/dvd and see if it makes the same noise.  if so, your superdrive may be damaged.

Caution - Leopard does not support classic mode. So, if you currently open OS 9 apps in classic mode, you won't be able to do this if you upgrade to Leopard.

  • How can I stop my Macbook from going to sleep whilst I load the operating system (10.5) on?

I'm trying very unsuccessfully to reinstall the system from scratch, so that I have a clean computer. I'm starting with 10.5 and then going to upgrade in increments from that to the last operating system the computer will run, which is 10.6.8.
Firstly I've wiped the hard disk in Disk Tools and then started it up from the master disk of 10.5, and its telling me it will take 64 hours and some minutes to install, so I can't keep moving the mouse to stop it going to sleep for that long.
I know it sounds as though something is wrong, but I have run both Disk Tools and Tech Tool Pro through it and both say there's nothing wrong with either the computer or the hard disk, and it was running fine (if slow - but that's its age!) prior to this clean install.
This computer is the first of the intel Macbooks and is a single core intel processor with 1gb of Ram.
What I need to do is to stop it going to sleep during the install, as every time it does it just halts the install and over night, for instance, I'm no further forward than I was the night before, even though I left it going all night.
All I'm trying to do is get it to 10.6.8 so that I can run Bootcamp on it and turn it into a PC to do my accounts (and no, the software we use only runs on PC, but Paralles, VMWare Fusion etc still make it painfully slow to use, and It's bad enough having to do accounts without having to wait for it to do every move...)
I can't go straight to 10.6 as the only copies we have of this are "drag and drop" upgrades that Apple supplied with 3 of our other Macs. Also the computer won't read dual layer DVDs (too old) so I can't load the full copy we have made of the OS.

It's simply called Photos and there is no options/setting thing on it. I have windows 8, it's a stand alone photo library viewer.

  • Loading an Operating System to Multiple Computers

    I have a simple question.
I bought a new Mac Pro that came with OS 10.6
I own a Mac Pro with OS 10.5
Can I just slap in my OS 10.6 into the older machine and install the new operating system since they don't have serial numbers.
Or Vice Versa if I wanted to.

You can't use your OEM DVD on another machine.
SL is $25 @ Amazon, Newegg etc.
Here I thought you wanted to put 10.5.7 on your new Mac.... (you can't boot with even 10.5.6).

I see that you purchased your notebook in the US but are from India.  Your notebook go a virus while in India and you did not have your recovery disks so you installed Windows 7 Ultimate  and you would now like to return you notebook back to factory.
Did you create recovery disk after setting up the notebook for the first time?
When you installed Windows 7 Ultimate did you format the entire drive including the recovery partition?  To check go to Disk Management and click on show hidden partitions.  Is the recovery still there?
If so and if you have not yet created your recovery disk you can do it now.  Creating Recovery Discs or Saving a Recovery Image to a USB Flash Drive (Windows 7)
If you did format the recovery partition you will need to order a recovery kit.  HP Pavilion dm4-2165dx Entertainment Notebook PC Drivers.
There is a link on the page to order a recovery kit online or you can contact HP support to order one.

  • How to re-install pre-loaded windows Operating system On LENOVO 3000 N200

    Hi!
I am having re-installed Windows Vista Home edition on my laptop. Does anyone know a procedure to re-install the Vista for a clean install. I have not received any recovery disk from LENOVO along with the laptop. Do I need to download all drivers from the LENOVO web site to recover my system after the Vista re-install? Do someone has the recovery disk for this model (0769)?

Hi ljinks, welcome to the forum,
do you have a folder D:\drivers on your system? I believe that some Idea system do; it should contain drivers and preinstalled apps in which case hopefully you'll find it there.

  • RECOVERY LOOP: (Error Code:0xc0000185) PC doesn't load my operating system windows 8.

    Hello,
About 3 weeks ago my just over a year new laptop took a fall onto the carpet from 4 feet above... my screen was cracked so I ordered a new one and put it in yesterday. Now, I am having problems. I start up my laptop, the HP logo with a timer circle is spinning below it, then it says " your Pc ran into a problem and needs to restart", it restarts and then it says, " Recovery- Your PC couldn't start properly. A required device isn't connected or can't be accessed. Error Code: 0xc0000185." With a bunch of other stuff written below it.. I have tried all the prompts possible. I did do a HP PC HARDWARE DIAGNOSTIC UEFI test, both the short and extended one. It says FAILED - Failure ID: GLXS3H-6MF76S-MFPWWJ-60S603, with the Product ID: C5E40UA#ABA then right below HARD DRIVE 1.
My lap top will not go into the windows screen now at all. I am guessing the fall my lap top took did some damage to the hard drive and that is the internal problem now. I did look at a video on how to take the hard drive out and I did unplug, remove battery, and take it out and took the controller board off, check to make sure nothing was lose or broken, and put back together and reinserted it into my laptop and I am still having the same loop as above happening.

    -Windows 8
    -750 GB Hard Drive
