I want to record my voice, but

... frankly I am finding this software VERY confusing... I tried to use a search for the same subject, but the discussions don't seem to lead me to a simple answer. Does anyone have any input ? I can get as far as clicking 'real instrument', then after that...good luck! I ALWAYS start our with a piano track.... not anything vocal...

back in the day (1995) i used to have a program called Studiovision Pro with digidesign Session 8 and Digidesign SampleCell. and used to map my voice over the keyboard in different pitches for play back as a midi instrument in the Studiovision sequencer....
I am not looking for pitch changes this time- just trying to see if GB can at least record my voice (without pitch changing via the music keyboard) ...
just want to record my voice and trigger it several times in a song at the same pitch.
I think you answered my ?..... I think what you said will work.. sounds logical....

Totally new to MAC, want to record music (voice over on karaoke track)

Good morning! I'm totally new to this so forgive me if this topic has been covered before. I have a MACBOOK PRO and I am a singer-performer. I have a multitude of music tracks that I would now like to lay a voice track over and perhaps video record it as well. Is Garageband is the best way to do this (in ILIFE) and if so, how?

drop the file into GB's timeline, then create another track on which to record your vocals. you can use the internal mic to get started:

GB does not record video, but you can drop a video file into the GB timeline

I recorded a video on Photo Booth and dragged it to my desk top. then i wanted to record another video but when I click on photo booth it won't open. there is no question mark or anything. it just won't open. What should i do?

How can I record my voice on iMovie without needing to place a photo or video in?

I'm trying to make an anime review. But before placing photos in it, I wanted to record my voice first before adding pictures in it. So I was wondering what do I do to actually get my voice in it without it being cut because there were no photos or videos placed in? (I use a macbook)

You could insert a bunch of placeholders in the timeline before doing the voiceover.
You can find a range of placeholders (they are actually templates used in iMovie Trailers) in the Maps, Backgrounds & Animatics browser. This is the last browser at the end of the centre toolbar, after the Titles and Transitions browsers. Click on it and scroll down to see all the animatics (aka placholders or templates). Drag a number of these into your project timeline - as many as you think you need to cover your audio.
When you've finished the voiceover, drag photos directly onto the animatics and select Replace from the pop-up menu. Adjust the timing by using the Inspector (double-click a photo to open the Inspector, then change the duration).

Garageband won't record my voice or anything.

A couple of months ago or may i say nearly a year, i tried out garageband to record my voice. Back then, I was a newbie to this whole apple MAC thing and applications like garageband. So i only would use it to record my voice and i also could change the vocal effects. It worked fine. Then one day, i opened garageband and wanted to record me singing but it didn't work. There's a constant sound of a beat while i record and listen to it after recording. Also, the bar goes totally flatline when i record and listen. The ziz-zag line doesn't come up in the bar. I didn't know what was wrong, i tried to make it work but obviously that didn't happen. So, i left it like that and i didn't bother using it. Though, i want to start using it again for my singing but it still doesn't work.
I would really appreciate some help.

Assuming you want to use the internal mic - make sure it is selected as the audio input in GB's preferences.

The banner usually indicates that the memo is "Paused." If you go back into voice memos, touch the word "Done" beside the big red pause button, give it a name, then it will show in a list. Touch the memo in the list then touch the trash can icon that should appear.

You have two basic options. One is to use a commercial screen recording app with access to system audio built into the app and the other is to add a system extension like SoundFlower that allows the QT X screen recorder to access/record the system audio. I use the former so I am not that familiar with SoundFlower but there should be several posts to this forum covering this topic.

Ok sorry to bug ya again but if I use the voice memos app if I have the screen locked and just on my belt clip on my side of my pants will it still pick up the authors voice and do I need to have all the volume turned all the way up for it or do I get the app u said for better sound?

I found an answer to this on another page (I was having the same problem) This worked for me:
Double-click the Home button.
Swipe left or right until you have located the app you wish to close.
Swipe the app up to close it.
