I want to reinstall my mac mini.

How?

Re-install from scratch with Mountain Lion?
If you already have Lion or Mountain Lion on it you can press "Option-R" during boot to reach the boot menu (you need USB connected keyboard). You can then erase the Mac partition with Disk Utilities from that menu and then choose install. You need backup and an Apple ID that links to your Lion/Mountain Lion purchase and it needs to be connected to the Internet.

I want to Connect my Mac Mini as a Slave to a Mac pro Server while at the same time using the Mac mini's thunderbolt ports peripherals ( ie monitor, Sound Card, Hard drives) Creating a poor man's new mac Pro. Can this be Done?

Well, I really would love the new unreleased mac pro however , I'm not sure of the expected cost , Everyone speculates from $3,000 to $8,000, in which I may have to wait a while to purchase.
To the point .... I want fully functional thunderbolt ports to be on the current mac pro's .... wonder if anyone had workarounds yet?...  or could I chain the the current mac pro to a mac mini to make that happen?

  • I want to use a mac mini as a server supporting storage. Can I pair my macair to it for when I need to perform updates and maintenance ?

I want to use a mac mini as a server supporting storage. I have other devices such as an iMac and iPad that will access information from the server. I do not want to purchase a monitor and keyboard as the unit will sit in a cupboard out of sight. Can I pair my macair to it for when I need to perform updates and maintenance ?

I have a 2010 Mac Mini running Yosemite and Server which I use
    as a headless home server.
I have is set up to allow screen sharing and can connect to it and
control it with my iMac, Macbook Pro, iPhone, and a 2011 Mini Server
that I use as an HTPC.
You can check this out for all the Yosemite Server capabilities:
    https://help.apple.com/advancedserveradmin/mac/4.0/
I have iTunes Home Sharing set up on it and have my entire iTunes
library on it.  I can then use any of my Macs to play Movies or Songs
from it and only keep locally a select subset of that on my individual
    devices.
Rather than and update server, I utilize Server's Caching Service.  The caching
server will duplicate any update download (system or MacApp Store purchases)
any time a device that is connected to my network down loads one.  The update will
then be stored locally and all other devices will download the update from it which
can be faster than from Apple directly.  This has the advantage of only having to download
once with limited bandwidth internet connections.  There is also an Update Server service
available, but it is some what more involved in setting up.  However, it will download
    and store all available updates.
There is another thing as well if you do not care for syncing things like Contacts, Calendar, etc.
to iCloud, you can set Server up to sync these items across devices locally.

  • I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40", Whats the best way to do this?

I want to connect a Mac mini to a Samsung 40" LED tv to use as the monitor, whats the best way of doing this?

Understand that there is one HDMI port on your TV that is specifically designated for PC connectivity. The order that the TV or Mini are powered on may determine your results. For your specific TV model, check buyer reviews on Amazon or elsewhere that can include optimum TV/Computer settings adjustment for improved viewing results.

  • I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

I have a G5 PPC Dual 20" Mac Displays - I want to incorporate a Mac Mini and still use my keyboard and Monitors and Switch back and forth. How do I do this?

    The Hatter,
I am a novice at Mac so I read all I can.  From what I understand the NEC monitors I bought require Display Port for their maximum performance.  The GTX 680 only has DVI outputs.  Difference from what I understand is larger bandwidth with the DP.
You said I have the 4000 for CUDA.  I am not all that familiar with CUDA and when I do read about it I do not understand it.
A concern I have is, that if I connect the 2 high end NEC monitors via the 5770, using it's 2 Display Ports I would have nothing connected to the 4000.  Is the 4000 doing anything with nothing connected?  I read where in a PC system the 2 cards would interact but in a Mac system they do not.
Bottom line, as I see it, the 4000 will not be useful at all to me, since I want a dual monitor set-up.
So far the 5870 seems the best choice, higher band width than the 5770, and it has 2 Display Ports to optimize the NEC monitors.
I'm not sure how fine I am splitting hairs, nor do I know how important those hairs are.  I am just trying to set up a really fast reliable system that will mainly be used for CS6 and LR4.  Those NEC monitors are supposed to be top notch.

  • Want to run a Mac Mini into a 50" Samsung Plasma screen TV...will it work?

The TV is a Samsung PN50B850 Plasma screen with a VGA input: http://reviews.cnet.com/flat-panel-tvs/samsung-pn50b850/4505-6482_7-33490381.htm l

From what I can tell it should just plug right into the VGA input on the TV...but my question is am I going to have any issues with resolution or anything like that?
Also, from the pictures it looks like the DVI to VGA adapter that apple offers is only like 3 inches long? Do they make them longer than this? I had planned on mounting the TV on the wall above my fireplace on an arm that tilts and swings out about 2-3 ft and just sitting the Mac Mini on the mantle...anyways I didn't want to go away on vacation, have my mom come over, adjust the TV, and send my Mac Mini to its untimely death:(

Could you please tell me the exact settings you have on your TV and your mac.
Under what menu are you selecting PC DVI?
What resolution and other settings do you have your mac set to?
Currently I have mine setup like so:
Mac Mini with mini dvi to dvi adaptor then a cable dvd to hdmi.
I then have that hdmi plug into port 2 of my tv that says (HDMI/DVI on it.
On the mac I have resolution set to 1920 x 1080 and i have overscan ticked.
The picture is OK but up close i would not say it is perfectly crisp (especially text) but from a about 6 feet away it seems fine.
Is the text on your screen pin sharp?
    Thanks in advance

  • I want to link my Mac Mini through my independent hifi system, which forms part of my home tv system which is the monitor I am using with the Mac Mini. The hdmi cable I am using comes from the receiver of the tv. I cannot get sound from the Mac Mini. Do

I cannot link my new MacMini with my TV's sound system. It's a Pioneer screen & receiver with an independent Pioneer Amp. The Mac Mini does not pick up the sound through the hdmi cable, so how do I get sound going through the MacMini so I can appreciate the music and films I want to hear. Do I need another piece of Apple kit? I have seen 'Express' on Apples web site. Surely I dont have to pay for this as well?
I used to have an Apple TV box which had a seperate audio connection from my Pioneer Amp and it worked great.
    Help will be appreciated

The Mac Mini is going to be used for an Internet connection on the Pioneer Plasma/receiver so I can also play stored films from a seperate hard drive. The receiver has an HDMI connection which I have connected the Mac Mini too. the picture is fine, but there is no sound. I have checked the 'sound' settings on the Mac Mini and it registers the Pioneer PDP receiver is connected but states it has no audible connection?

  • Want to upgrade my Mac Mini Server OS

I have a Mac Mini with OS 10.6.8, and was wanting to upgrade the OS to a newer version. I'm a bit confused on which version to buy. The Apple App Store has OSX Server for $19.99, but this looks like an add-on for existing mountain lion users. Am I wrong on this, or is there another version of server operating system somewhere out there?
Also, do I have to use a server OS in this model of Mac Mini, or could I just switch to a stand-alone version of OS 10.8? My model has 2.66 GHz, Intel Core 2 Duo, 4 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, dual 500 GB HD's. I don't really use this unit as a server at all, and have almost all of the server features disabled anyway.

You can do everything you like.
If you want to upgrade to OS X Server you will have a stand alone version of Mountain Lion at some point during that process, in order to get OS X Server you need to install Mountain Lion first and thus your server will be a non-server.

  • I want to buy a mac mini but not sure what to buy. i need it for itunes and pictures. i want to be able to watch movies and tv shows on my tv. can anyone help me

i want to buy a mac mini

If you aren't doing any heavy duty photo editing
the base model should work just fine.  I would suggest
that if you go with the base model, bump the RAM
up to at least 4gig, but get it at Newegg or direct from
Crucial or Kingston, it will be way cheaper.

  • Want to purchase new mac mini but I do not know how I would install programs from dvd without internal optical drive

I am planning to purchase new mac mini that just came out today but I do not know how I will be able to install programs or save stuff to disk when there is now internal optical drive.  I know I could purchase an external drive but is that necesary. Thanks.

If you have access to another Mac with an DVD drive you should be able to share it using Apple's drive sharing feature in the OS or at the very least if you have a firewire cable boot into firewire disk mode...

  • HP Printer update keeps getting reinstalled. Mac mini with Lion.

I have a new Mac mini with Lion and the HP Deskjet all-in-one printer with scanner that came with a rebate so I got it for free. When I check for new software I get a notice that there is an update to the HP printer driver (I think it is v 5.7). I go ahead and do the update and it says it was installed. When I check later on for new software the same update shows up, as if I never did the upgrade. What gives?

Thanks for the feedback. Since I did the original post I found the solution by searching the community for "HP Update". Someone posted that you need to delete a folder within the Library folder and then do the update again. The deleted folder for the HP Printer will wind up in the trash, but you need to reboot the Mac before you can empty the trash.

  • I want to Downgrade my mac Mini from Server 10.5.4 back to snow leopard client.

I don't need a MacOX 10.5.8 server and would like to reformat the drive to be able to have client software only. Then run a boot camp to partiion the drive for a windows 7 environment.
Boot camp assistant will not allow me to and states that I need to reformat the drive via disk utility. However the DU will not allow me to reformat the drive, as they are greyed out.
How do i achieve bringing the har drive back to a client and not a server?
Processor:1.83 GHz Intel core 2 Duo
    Memory: 1GB 667 MHz DDR2 SDRAM

  • Intel Mac Mini crash.  Restore from TimeMachine failed.  Reinstall from DVD failed

I am at a loss.  My Mac Mini (Intel 2.53ghz, 10.6.7, 4gb RAM) froze today.  Mouse would still move the cursor, but nothing responded.  After letting it go for perhaps a half hour, waiting for a chance to get control back or to perhaps relaunch Finder, I gave up and turned it off by holding down the power button.  On reboot, it would not make it past the startup screen.  I inserted the restore DVD that came with this Mac Mini, it booted from the DVD and I tried reinstalling OSX 10.6 from the DVD.  It proceeded to around 30% install and crashed.  I turned it off again, started up again form the DVD, and went into Disk Utility.  I verified the internal HD and it had no errors and nothing to repair.  This time I went directly to a restore from my TimeMachine backup.  (I had actually installed one new program today, and in case that program was the issue I chose a restore from the morning a few hours before that new program was added.)  The restore progressed to 86.6%, then crashed.  I saved the installer log to an external drive.
I took a few hours away from it, but came back after a few hours.  I attempted to boot from the DVD again, and it would not get beyond the Apple sreen.  I turned it off by holding down the power button, unplugged the power supply, and searched online for around 30 minutes.  After finding little online, I booted from the DVD again, this time succesfully, and am currently running a TimeMachine restore again which I started after I began typing this entry because, honestly, when I started typing this I didn't think it would boot from the DVD again.  At the moment, the resotre is at 12.7%, but considering it crashed at 86.6% last time, I'm not too hopeful.
Any thoughts or advice?  I'm not totally freaked out as I keep all documents on two external drives and backed up, in addition to having a 2tb TimeMachine drive with this system, all connected by fw800.  But... it's not like I don't want to get this Mac Mini working again.  It's from November 2009 an I don't have Apple Care for it, which I suppose means they'll charge me a fortune if I take it in.   (I'm grateful to have this 11.6" MacBook Air to work on.)
Until Disk Utility told me that the internal drive was okay, I was thining I should try sticking a new hd inside and reinstalling from there.  Not sure what to do if this TimeMachine restore fails.  (at 18.5% now.)
My thanks to any who read this.

Thanks for responding.  I forgot to come here and delete this thread.  As it turned out, I switched from trying to use the OSX Install disc that came with the Mac Mini and instead used a Snow Leopard retail dvd.  That disc worked perfectly.  Pretty disturbing that the dvd that came with the computer would not work, while a store bought one worked.  Glad I bought a retail version of OSX to hackintosh a dell mini or I wouldn't havebeen able to fix this.
