I want to remove a userid being saved by Firefox

When initially logging on to a site, Firefox asked if I wanted it to remember the userid. I clicked "Yes - always". I have changed my mind for this particular site. How do I undo it?

  • Despite add-ons and settings, cookies are still being saved after Firefox closes.

I have set Firefox to delete all cookies when Firefox closes. This does not work but I have read this is by design (although there is absolutely no point in having this option if it does not do what it says). So after reading forums I have tried several other things. I have both BetterPrivacy and DoNotTrackPlus installed. I have also set browser.sessionstore.privacy_level to "2" and browser.sessionstore.resume_from_crash to "false" in about:config which I have seen in several posts. Finally, I only use the internet with Private Browsing now. Despite all of those precautions, AVG continues to pick up what appear to be the same 9 cookies constantly.
They are all located in ...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies:
    VKE7AOYE.txt:\adtmt.com.b3e33b5f, VKE7AOYE.txt:\adtmt.com.7247c262,
    VKE7AOYE.txt,
    J2Q8V5BO.txt:\fastclick.net.c38980e4, J2Q8V5BO.txt:\fastclick.net.8a6435e9,
    J2Q8V5BO.txt,
    3Z7Y9OHL.txt:\ad.yieldmanager.com.557bf2b0, 3Z7Y9OHL.txt:\ad.yieldmanager.com.539b0606,
    and 3Z7Y9OHL.txt.
How can I avoid this? I am fairly tired of cookies, persistent cookies, LSO cookies, what have you. What is the point of all of these actions if none of them stop cookies from being saved permanently on my computer? Is it just Firefox that has dropped the ball here or do other browsers also have these issues? I have been a long-time Firefox fan but thinking of changing after all of this. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks for your time.

Thanks for your reply jscher2000. It took me a while me to hunt down what exactly what was causing those cookies but your response helped me to open up my thinking a bit to consider non-firefox alternatives. I got distracted initially trying to see when the cookies were being added which led to a whole side problem of hidden files remaining hidden even when I checked to un-hide them under properties (I finally figured that out using "organize/folder and search options/view" and editing the registry) and then I spent some time performing one action at a time and checking the cookies folder. Imagine my embarrassment when it turns out a game was actually responsible for putting those cookies there (not internet browsing through firefox). Unless there are two applications/add-ons doing it? After deleting some cookies, I started noticing the cookies appearing in a different folder (...\AppData\Local\Temp\Cookies). Either the game changed which folder it was putting the cookies in (originally it was the ...\AppData\Roaming\Microsoft\Windows\Cookies) or two applications/add-ons are putting basically identical cookies in each of the two folders I mentioned. I find it much more reasonable that the game is responsible for both locations and somehow how meddling around with cookies and deleting them and such caused a change given that the game seems to have files in both of those locations (although the files are hidden in one of the locations). Finally, if other people read this, when I was looking for cookies being generated I missed it at first because new files weren't being created necessarily but lines of cookie text were being added to existing files without actually changing the displayed file size. A very long-winded response and probably more than anyone wanted to know but thanks again for the time and effort of your answer jscher.

  • Pictures are being saved as firefox document i need them as jpeg image

since installing firefox, i click on a picture which is jpeg image and the save turns it into firefox document. it took a while to get it to save but i can not find where to change this item. i don't know why it changes they come in in the right format. and my business is pictures so i'm starting to freak, a little, alright a lot. thanks mark

When you you right-click to save the picture, type the name of the picture and add .jpeg after the name. e.g. '''mypicture.jpeg''' . It seems that pictures from certain sources (like an iphone sometimes) are causing this problem. Any pictures that you have already saved as firefox documents can be fixed by right-clicking and selecting '''rename''' and adding '''.jpeg''' to the name. This works for all windows operating systems.
(if you have enabled viewing of file extensions in your folder options you will need to delete '''.htm''' from the name before adding '''.jpeg''')

I chose to have firefox remember my email password. I want to change that back so that a user has to enter the password to access my email.

You may need to clear the cookies from that website as well (websites remembering you and automatically log you in is stored in a cookie).<br />

  • Downloads are not being saved on firefox

All downloads have disappeared from the download page, and I cannot download any new programs or updates for them. When prompted to download a program, I follow the same procedure previously used, and when the notification that all downloads are complete appears, the download file does not open. When opened manually, the file is empty. The directions given in the help area for this problem require me to do something that isn't possible, since the button needed to be clicked on doesn't exist in the Foxfire Window displayed on my Laptop.

    It's not my anti-virus. I think it's a problem with Adobe Reader.
When I click on a PDF file on the Internet, it starts a download, even though I did not request it to download. The little download window opens and I can see the progress.
When it's done I double-click on the file in the little Firefox download window and the PDF opens so I can read it.
The file stays in the list in the Firefox download window unless I "Clear All" or "Remove" the individual file.
I want all downloads including these PDF's to go to the My Documents - Downloads folder, not the temporary folder it's currently going to.
    How do I do that?

  • I want to remove the yahoo search bar from Firefox and use the google search bar.

I did go to about:config and made the keyword.URL to default (Google). It is not getting affected. Please help me to know how can I set it in Firefox.
I need to remove yahoo search from my Firefox and use the Google search. I did the following steps for the same.
about:config, searched keyword:URL and reset to default.
But the change is not getting affected. Pls help

Work around that I have used (my machine is running Windows XP SP3 might work on other systems as well):
    1) Ensure Firefox is closed, if necessary read this in another browser
    2. Open the Firefox directory on the hard drive (typically: C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox)
    3. Go into the 'searchplugins' folder
    4. Delete the file named 'yahoo.xml'
    5. Immediately restart your machine

I want to remove all saved passwords, How do I do this? Including remembering log in names.

You can remove all saved passwords in the Password Manager
*Tools > Options > Security: Passwords: "Saved Passwords" > "Show Passwords"

  • Photos Not Being Saved As Jpgs

i do a lot of animal rescue and circulate photos which i "save as jpegs" on local shelter websites.
just in the past couple of days, when i try to save these photos, they appear on my desktop as blank icons whereas before they were showing up with the jpg icon. the only way i can get them to jpgs is to import them into iphoto but sometimes iphoto doesn't recognize them.
i know that in OS9 i used to reset the PRAM to fix the problems of blank icons but would that work in Panther?
any suggestions as to how to fix this would be much appreciated.
    thanx.

    Hi Jane,
I'm not sure if your question has been answered yet, but I managed to duplicate your problem, and the easy solution is below.
Despite what is listed under the "Format" drop-down menu (in this case, "JPEG Picture"), you MUST have the proper extension (either ".jpg" or ".jpeg", neither case-sensitive) typed into the filename in the "Save As..." dialog box upon initial save.
Believe it or not, OS X does utilize those little extensions (much the same way Windows does) to associate a file type with a particular application. Most of the time these filename extensions are hidden and only viewable by listing in the UNIX directory.
But by omitting the extension during the Save As, the file is only being saved as a raw binary file, and the OS does not know which application this file should open with.
Even if you choose Get Info from the Finder and choose "Open With... -> Preview", Preview only has certain file types associated with working with this program [.jpg/.jpeg, .gif, .pdf, .bmp, .pict, .psd, among others], and still cannot figure out that the file you saved (which has no extension) belongs to Preview.
Once the file is saved to your computer with the extension, you can remove the extension portion later by changing the filename as usual - by clicking on the name and typing whatever you want.
By this point, Panther has already associated the file as a JPEG to work under Preview, and will continue to have the full name of "filename.jpg" in the UNIX system.
    Hope this helps...

  • The application detected an error that prevents changes from being saved.

Hi. I'm having this problem almost all the time when I do some color correction.
"The application detected an error that prevents changes from being saved. To avoid losing your work, quit Final Cut Pro."
Any ideas why this is happening?
I'm on a 2010 Mac Pro running latest Mavericks and latest FCP X.
I already removed FCP X, and all the effects I have installed. But still the issue persists.
    Thanks.

That could have happened. I can't remember though.
    Is there any work around?
I currently only have 1 open library and 1 event on it. If I move or copy that event into a new library, would that in theory work?
Thanks for the help so far.

  • HT4075 I tried the steps mentioned above but the changes are not being saved.

I am not able to edit or merge PDF files. I followed the steps mentioned in the Mac support community but the changes are not being saved. Any solution to this?

The link you posted gives be a 404 not found message.
The reason you're getting the repeat is because your site name is wilgenroos.nl and the first page of your site is wilgenroos.
The standard URL for domain names that are forwarded with the CNAME method is:
    http://www.domain_name.com/site_name/page_name.html.
You can change the site and page names in iWeb to give you something more informative about the site and page.
If you're publishing to a  3rd party server and want to get rid of the site name in the url and only have
    http://www.domian_name.com/page_name.html
    do the following:
publish the site to a folder on your hard drive (already done)
use Cyberduck to upload just the contents of your site folder to the root folder of your account on the server.
You should delete the old site folder and files that are currently there beforehand.

  • File Options not being saved

I appologize if this is the wrong forum, but I did a search and failed to find a related subject.
When I click on File>Options then modify them the way I want to, then close Designer 2008 and reopen it, they're back to the default values.
How can I retain my options even after closing designer and reopenning?
    Thanks much!

What version of Crystal are you using?
Are you a local PC Administrator also?
Try right clicking on the crw32.exe and selecting Run As Administrator and then change them.
Are you clicking the OK or Save button after making changes or simply closing the window using top right X button?
Those options are saved to the registry, only reason they are not being saved is you don't have permission or some anti-virus software or Restore Point is writing the original settings back when you close CR.
You may want to check with your IT people to see if they have pushed out some sort our Profile update that doesn't allow you to keep changes to the registry.
After making the changes and you create a new report do you see the changes? Don't close the designer.
    Thank you
    Don

  • Photos are not being saved

My Blackberry Curve 8530 has stopped saving pictures even though the display appears to indicate the pics are being saved. There is also plenty of memory left. I have no idea why this is happening.
On another point, browsing through the various community forums, it appears that, for the most part, blackberry phones are 1) either too complicated for most of us to operate; or, 2) that the phones don't really work all that well. No wonder the company charges for service.
Why do we let give money to Blackberry and our carriers when it appears the main way that they make money is by screing us?

    Hello,
    traildog wrote:
If you buy a device and it does not work properly, then the customer should have real and free access to the company in order to fix it--especially under warranty. Apparently, we are expected to not have these expectations.
You do...but not direct from RIM. By contract, all formal support is provided by the carriers and authorized resellers, including warranty support. RIM provides zero free front line support. The carriers have received enhanced training on BB's and also have the ability to escalate, at no cost to you, your case into RIM. That is the way it works.
    traildog wrote:
I have 64.6 MB of free memory space. I'm not sure which line refers to the operating system in options-about.
There are three types of potential memory on a BB: 1) Application Memory, 2) Device Memory, and 3) Media/SD Card Memory
Application Memory -- This is the most crucial; it is the protected (not user accessible), dedicated, and fixed (in size) space that is available as the destination for the installation of applications (plus some application storage, overhead and such). You cannot touch AppMemory. You cannot improve the maximum AppMemory that your BB has. It is what it is. Applications can only install here...there is no option.
Device Memory -- This is space on your BB that you can touch to store files, pictures, media, etc. Typically, it is not terribly large, but it is available to you.
SD/Media Card Memory -- This is what it says...your SD card, for you to store files, media, pictures, etc. It can be as large as your BB OS can support...see this KB:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB05461
On some devices/OS levels, you can only see "File Free" (Options > Status), which I think is equivalent to AppMemory. On other devices, you can see all three memory usage levels (Options > Memory). Here are some guidelines to use:
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB15345
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14320
    http://www.blackberry.com/btsc/KB14213
Lastly, it is always important to properly close applications when you are done with them. Using the Back or the Red key will not do this -- those leave it to the app to decide what to do...and some will leave themselves resident in memory, consuming resources on your BB, slowing the overall performance. Rather, to close an app, press and select "Close" or "Exit"...that will force the application to be closed, freeing up for your new use the resources it was consuming. Some apps will always remain running (typically -- BBMessenger, Browser, Homescreen, Phone, and Messages)...but, you should still close them properly - especially the Browser...if it is left on an active web page, it will not only consume extra resources but battery power as well.
Further, anytime random strange behavior or sluggishness creeps in, the first thing to do is a battery pop reboot. With power ON, remove the back cover and pull out the battery. Wait about a minute then replace the battery and cover. Power up and wait patiently through the long reboot -- ~5 minutes. See if things have returned to good operation. Like all computing devices, BB's suffer from memory leaks and such...with a hard reboot being the best cure. Some have taken to doing this on a regular basis as a preventive measure...some as frequently as once per day. Others have obtained the QuickPull app to automate a simulated Batt-Pull.
    Best and Good luck!
