Do you mean a flash drive? I don't know if I would trust one of those entirely. Make sure you make a backup.
Copy the entire iTunes folder to the flash drive. Start iTunes while holding down the option/alt key and guide it to the library on the flash drive. If you forget to plug in the flash drive before starting iTunes in the future you will have to do the option start thing again.

When you connect that iPad to iTUnes, go to the summary page and scroll down, there should be a box saying 'automatically update' or something to that effect. De select that.
With automatically update on, what you buy on one goes onto the other. but with that box off you can choose.
On the iPad itself, it's under
Settings
iTUnes and App Stores
and then you can choose what you want automatically updated between the two devices.

I still don't know if the drive that crashed was the external drive, or if it was the internal drive, and if it was the external drive if that was the only copy of the library.

Every time I try and delete an album from my ipod using itunes but doing so manually as was suggested, it is also deleted from the itunes library that i have set up. How do I just delete albums from my ipod and not loose them from my pc itunes library?

I have an extensive itunes library on my pc. I want to delete albums from my ipod but still keep them in my itunes library. Everytime I try to delete by right clicking on the album and choosing delete, I also loose the album from itunes. I have just gotten an old iphone and put just classical and jazz on the iphone and want to delete those albums from my ipod but alas I will be loosing them from the iphone as well as soon as I sync with itunes in the future. I'm thinking you sync to your computer over Wi-Fi, if correct, switch to sync when connected to iTunes, turn off sync over Wi-Fi. Hope this helps, Good luck. Cheers.

Is there an easy way to download my music from the iCloud to iTunes library on my new PC desktop so I can sync my iPod? I have iMatch and cannot figure out how to do it in one fell swoop rather than by downloading each song, which will take forever!

I have taken over my son's old PC desktop tower as it has more memory than my old PC. I installed iTunes on it and have accessed via my iMatch account my music library that's in the iCloud. I need to download it to the iTuned library on the desktop so I can sync my iPod. I can only see how to do it song-by-song, which will take forever for my almost 5000 songs. Is there a way to dowload the entire library in one fell swoop, letting it download without me having to do each song individually or monitor it?

My itunes library opens by itself every 10 minutes, how can I stop this?

Several days ago my itunes library started opening on top of whatever I was doing without any prompting from me. It initially started this while I was playing a game on my pc, now it does it all the time regardless of what I am doing. What is causing this action and how can I stop it?

Does is completely restart or just go into sleepmode? If sleepmode: go to Settings - General - autolock and change that setting.
If it just restarts:
1. Try doing a hard reset:
Press and hold both the Home button and the Sleep/wake button simultaneously for about 15 seconds and release when the Apple logo appears.
2. If that doesn't solve the issue, backup the device and restore it as new.
In that case, use: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4137
NB: set up as a NEW device because a software issue will be in the backup. If the issue persists after restoring as new, you should offer the device for service.

My iTunes library won't play most songs, why, & how can I get them back?

I've had these songs on my library for ages, there has been no problem, then the next day... BAM! They don't play. I click on the 'Play Album' button, or the song title and NOTHING happens, the bar doesn't even some up at the top! It's as if I didn't even click on it... But I did.
I've tried deleting them from the library them adding them again... But then they don't even show up at all. However, they do play on Windows Media Player.
Can anybody help me with this? I'm so annoyed, and I think I might cry.

Do the songs have exclamation points to the left of them?
Are they on an external hard drive?
Did you install some other software recently? Take a Windows update? A security software update?
+there has been no problem, then the next day... BAM!+
With computers, if something works one day and then not the next, we need to know what has changed. SOMETHING changed.
One quick thing to try is restart your PC. Don't laugh, that's fixed many a ghost in the machine.
