  • Publishing Site Template Missing - MOSS 2007

    Hi All,
I can't see the "Publishing Site" template in the list while creating a site/site collection. The publishing feature is activated in both site collection level and site level. I can see only "Publishing Site with Workflow" and "News
    site" under "Publishing" tab.
I have checked in "Page Layouts and Site Templates" settings page and there also "Publishing Site" template is not listed.
    Any help is highly appreciated.
    Puli Bala

    Hello Puli,
Check from site settings page. go to Site Settings –> ‘Page layouts and site templates’ under ‘Look and Feel’ section.  On the ‘Page Layout and Site Template Settings’ page, you can specify which site templates will be available for creating subsites
    in this site collection.
    Hope it could help

  • Error when trying to create a Site or Site Collection

    Hi,
I am trying to create site in site collection in sharepoint online 2013
    Pls help me

Verify that you have the following administrative credentials:
To create a site collection, you must be a member of the Farm Administrators SharePoint group on the computer that is running the SharePoint Central Administration website.
    Start SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    For Windows Server 2008 R2:
Click Start, click Microsoft SharePoint 2013 Products, and then click
    SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
    For Windows Server 2012:
On the Start screen, click SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
If SharePoint 2013 Central Administration is not on the
    Start screen:
Right-click Computer, click All apps, and then click
    SharePoint 2013 Central Administration.
On the Central Administration website, in the Application Management section, click
    Create site collections.
On the Create Site Collection page, in the Web Application section, if the web application in which you want to create the site collection is not selected, on the
Web Application menu, click Change Web Application, and then click the web application in which you want to create the site collection.
In the Title and Description section, type the title and description for the site collection.
In the Web Site Address section, select the path to use for your URL (for example, a wildcard inclusion path such as /sites/, or the root directory (/).
If you select a wildcard inclusion path, you must also type the site name to use in your site's URL.
In the Template Selection section, in the Select experience version list, select the SharePoint experience version of the templates that you want to use.
Select the 2010 experience version if you want the site collection to look and run like a site collection in SharePoint Server 2010. A site collection that uses the 2010 experience version runs in SharePoint 2013, but the user interface and user experience
of the site collection is that of SharePoint Server 2010. A site collection that uses the 2010 experience version can be upgraded at any time to the 2013 experience version. For more information about how to upgrade a site collection,
In the Template Selection section, in the Select a template list, select the template that you want to use for the top-level site in the site collection, or click the
Custom tab to create an empty site and apply a template later.
A description for the template that you select appears below the list of templates.
In the Primary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name (in the form DOMAIN\username) for the user who will be the site collection administrator.
In the Secondary Site Collection Administrator section, type the user name for the secondary administrator of the site collection.
Designating a secondary site collection administrator is a best practice to ensure that someone can manage the site collection when a primary site collection administrator is not present.
If you are using quotas to manage storage for site collections, in the
Quota Template section, click a template in the Select a quota template list.
    Click OK.

  • Can't delete a Site Collection from SharePoint admin center completely

    Hi All
I'm using Office365. And I wanted to delete a Site Collection from SharePoint admin center.
But at first, I couldn't delete it from there. So I opened the Site and delete it from the Site setting successfully.
Then I went back to SharePoint admin center to check it was deleted or not completely.
But the Site Collection was still on the Site Collections list.....
    Things I did are
    1. IE -> Tools->Internet Options-> In General Tab click on Delete in browsing history section and check all options and again click on delete.
    2. Close and re-open the browser and sign back in
I wanna make free server resource to create new Site Collection.
Does anyone know how to delete a Site Collection completely?

    Hi,
Can you try delete the site collection using SharePoint online power shell command? Refer the following link for that.

  • How to limit the search scope in single site collection for SP2013?

On our SP2013 farm, there is one web application and 4 site collections under it. At the beginning I was trying to setup 4 different "Content Sources" but Sharepoint warn me that I can only setup 1 source per web application.
I don't want user search at site collection A get search result from B, C and D. Also I like to use continuous crawling. What is the best practice to achieve? Thanks.

  • Create site Collection from site template containing blog subsite sp2013

    Hello,
    I want to create a site collection based on a `site template` that contains a `calendar app` and a `blog` subsite.
I explain, i have a site that contains a subsite of type `blog` site and also contains a calendar in `sharepoint 2013`, i saved the site as a template and checked **`include content`**.
    However,
when i create a new sitecollection based on that template, i get the caledar app but never the blog subsite...
Am i missing something here? And how can we do this please?
    Thanks in advance

Save site as Site Template only saves the individual site and its content, not the sub sites. please check below thread :

  • Reset Site Collection to Template selection page

    Hi
I want to reset a site collection to a point where its possible to select the site collection from a template.
Previously, in the Site Settings I selected Reset to site definition, I was expecting to ne able to navigate to the site collection and see the site collection template page but instead no page was found.
So how is this possible, will I have to create a new site collection every time? (I dont have access to CA)
    Thanks

Reset to Site Definition simply reverts any "Ghosted" pages to the original formats stored on the file server in the site definition that was used to originally build the site.  It essentially removes all customizations that have been made
in SharePoint Designer.  There is no way to pick a different template for an existing Site Collection.  The only way to get a different template is to delete the existing site collection (and all of its content) and then create a new site collection
with a different template.  Templates are blueprints that are used to build a site.  Once the site is built you can't change the original blueprint used.

  • Cross Site collections navigation with publishing feature enabled into sharepoint 2010??

    Hi,
Is it possible to cross site collection navigation in share point 2010 with publishing feature enabled? Right now we have a site collection with all the departmental sites within it. We are trying to create separate site collection with separate content
database for each department for better management. But problem with Global navigation as OOB does not provide cross site collection navigation functionality, So looking for multiple site collections or navigation for more than one site collection under single
umbrella. i was able to get the cross site collection navigation in my development env without publishing feature enabled using below link. But problem with production environment, as all the site collections and sites are publishing feature enabled. how i
am gonna do cross site navigation with publishing feature enabled?
    http://www.itsolutionbraindumps.com/2011/10/sharepoint-2010-cross-site-collection.html
Any link or suggest will be greatly appreciated !

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create cross site collections navigation with publishing feature enabled in SharePoint 2010.
Publishing sites (sites with publishing infrastructure) have their own navigation API, and it is much more complicated task to preserve cross-publishing sites navigation.
We need to implement our own custom navigation provider.
Please refer to the link below about the cross site collections navigation with publishing feature enabled:

  • Deleting the content type hub site collection

    Hi
I have a content type hub (CTH) site that sits in it's own web app
In the managed metadata service app properties the "URL of the site collection (Content Type hub) from which this service application will consume content types" is specified as the CTH
The CTH site has become corrupted - I want to delete the site collection
If I do this will the URL field in MMS properties become available again so that I can enter a new value - or will I have to delete the whole MMS app and start again
    Any help much appreciated
    Cheers
    Jonj

    Hi,
Try through the PowerShell script to delete the site collection. and once you manage to delete the site collection, create a new site collection and use the same content type that is a part of Content type hub.
    Remove-SPSite -Identity "URL"
    Where:
<URL> is the URL of the site collection you want to delete.
    Thanks

  • List solutions being used by site collections

Is there anyway in powershell to list which site collection is using which solution/template in sharepoint 2010?
    Thanks
    Dave Kozlowski

if it is a sandbox solution then you will get use this command:
    Get-SPUserSolution -Site http://test
But if you have Farm level Solution then use this command:
    Get-SPSolution
to get which template is being used for site collection, this will go through site collection and all webs and list it.
    $site = Get-SPSite "http://yoursite"
    foreach ($web in $site.AllWebs) {
    $web | Select-Object -Property Title,Url,WebTemplate
    $site.Dispose()
if you want to process all site collection in a web app.

  • How to provision site collection using CSOM in SharePoint on premise

    Hi,
I need to create site collection using CSOM in SharePoint on premise.
Most of the forums discuss on provisioning site collection in SharePoint online and that does not work in on premises.
Is it possible to provision site collection using CSOM in on premise?
Kindly, share some reference to accomplish this.
    Thanks in advance,
    Dhijit

    Hi,
According to your description, my understanding is that you want to create a site collection using Client Object Model in SharePoint on-premise environment.
One option is that you can follow the article below to create the site collection with CSOM.
Provisioning site collections using SP App model in on-premises with just CSOM
Another option,  I suggest you can use admin web service for SharePoint 2013 to create a site collection.
Here is a detailed article for your reference:
    Admin.CreateSite method
    Thanks

  • Using Rename() method to change the Url of path based site collection

    Hello All,
    Is it correct to use
SPSite.Rename() method for changing the url of path based site collection(except the root)?
    For example:
    Old Site Url: http://portal.contoso.net/sites/HR
    New Site Url: http://portal.contoso.net/sites/HROLD
It is working in SharePoint 2013 test environment, but I will be happy to receive some feedback from you about this.

    Hi Lvan,
Yes, the server object model SPSite.Rename()  method works on an SPSite object to change the URL of a site collection which is host named or path based.

  • Want to restore recent production backup content db into Dev Farm but both contain the same site collections.

    Here is my scenario:
My current dev sharepoint 2013 environment is using a former backup of Production (which is 2010). We need to restore the latest backup from production into the dev environment. I restored the production backup to a new database under a different name. When
I use "Mount-spContentDatabase" and point towards the latest production backup under a new name it gives me the error:
Mount-SPContentDatabase : The attach operation cannot continue because another
object in this farm already contains the same ID. Each object in a farm must
have a unique ID. In order to proceed with the attach operation you must
assign a new ID to this database. To attach this database with a new ID, use
the Mount-SPContentDatabase command with the -AssignNewDatabaseId parameter.
Note that if this new database and an existing database contain the same site
collections, attaching this database will likely result in orphaned site
collections due to conflicts between the two databases."
I realize mounting the same content db's in one farm leads to a duplication of database and site collection GUIDS in the sql database. I guess my question is what is the easiest way to restore a content db with the same site collections and ID.
Should I "disconnect" the current dev content db, take a backup of it, delete it from sql server, and then mount the newest production backup or will that still give me the same "orphaned" site issue?
Should I do the above, delete the web application, create a new one and then try to mount latest production backup?
If someone could give me specifics on how this can be accomplished short of installing on a new farm that would be much appreciated!

Once you detach it from Sharepoint, so all the site information gone from Config DB. No need to delete it from SQL but you can if you need free space on the SQL.
After detaching old DB from sharepoint and mount the new DB to web application...you will not get the ID error.

  • Splitting Site Collection and Changing the Managed Paths

    Hi there,
I was hoping for some advice.  We are planning the upgrade our SP 2010 to SP 2013.  We have one Site Collection whose DB is nearing 180GB and growing so we are going to "split" it up into four.
So, the logical thing would be to export sites/subsites and import them into their own site collection.  What I have found though is that when doing this, the workflow history is not kept - we need the workflow history so this is not an option.
My other thought was to restore the DB, move the contents to a new Content DB, delete out of there what I don't want and do that four times.  That could work but then I get the problem of the URL.  I'm assuming by restoring this same DB four times
it will be using the same URL?
So, if anybody knows of a tool out there that can do an export/import that will keep the workflow history that would be perfect (it would have to be free...) - or, how can I restore the DB's to new URL/Managed Paths?  Or maybe you have a better
solution?  Any help would be appreciated.

Rebecca, thanks for the suggestion - I just think that could get a bit messy for my users.
Alex, the Workflow Cleanup job is disabled as we need to keep a record of who approved the task items.  I cannot lose the history.
What I have done, and have only just started testing, was to backup and restore in Powershell the "Root site" and delete the three subsites.  Then, do the same again but this time, restore to a new URL
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/erica/archive/2013/11/26/customer-question-renaming-site-collections-in-sharepoint-2013.aspx
So, I've the done the following:-
    Backup-SPSite http://domain/sites/HR –Path E:\Backup\HRBackup.bak -UseSqlSnapshot
    Restore-SPSite http://sp.contoso.net/sites/HR/Subsite1 –Path E:\Backup\HRBackup.bak -ContentDatabase SPS_HRSite1
    Restore-SPSite http://sp.contoso.net/sites/HR/Subsite2 –Path E:\Backup\HRBackup.bak -ContentDatabase SPS_HRSite2
    Restore-SPSite http://sp.contoso.net/sites/HR/Subsite3 –Path E:\Backup\HRBackup.bak -ContentDatabase SPS_HRSite3
Obviously space could be an issue.  Not a perfect solution but workflow history is kept and I've been able to split my Site Collection. My next challenge is moving the subsite into the root of that new site collection.  I added a comment here if
    anybody has any answers -
    https://social.technet.microsoft.com/forums/sharepoint/en-US/1dbd3d7c-ccd3-42e2-ba48-ad5731f38a58/change-subsite-to-toplevel-site-without-changing-the-link?prof=required

  • How to rename a site without accessing the Central Admin if there is a treshold...

    SP2010 - I'm SCA of a site collection...
I need to rename a site, (site settings, title etc), but when  I rename and try to save, it says   "The
attempted operation is prohibited because it exceeds the list view threshold enforced by the administrator."
ok I understand the problem, but I don't have access to Central Admin and increase the Treshold or whatever.
I need to do that within the Site collection  - I've rights use Sandbox solution.
Please advise how to rename the site?  (LINK)

As Alex said, it is one of the biggest weaknesses in SharePoint.
You need to decide when and how you are going to reduce the size of the list.  And put a governance policy (written document that is vetted through management) in place that states that lists need to be below the default 5000 item limit.
I DO NOT recommend increasing the limit, although I have seen companies do this.  All it leads to is the eventual crash of your farm and many, many more lists that then need to be paired down.
to fix your issue though, you could increase the limit, then export the list to excel, then decrease the limit back to default 5000 and then do your work in excel by parsing the list into however many you want, based on some criteria that you decide (date,
unit numbers, or what ever makes sense)
then import the excel files to new lists, after you have the new lists imported, business could test, then you could increase the limit one more time, so you can delete the original list.
and for renaming the site, if you don't want to do all the list work, you could increase the limit, and rename the site with set-spsite, assuming you're using host named site collections.  If you're using path based, you could export the site, then
create the site and all its subsites, and perform the import; which is one more reason why HNSC is the way to go.
