I want to reset my iPhone then restore from a backup...

Hello again Apple community.
I have an iPhone 5 and I want to reset it then restore it from a backup. I go to Settings -> General -> Erase all Content and Settings. I then enter my passcode, press Erase iPhone, and then press Erase iPhone on the confirmation screen. However, when I do that it tells me to enter my Apple ID password to erase the iPhone "and remove it from your account." The thing is, I'm not sure I want to do this because if I do, I'm afraid that it'll delete all of the purchases (apps, music, etc.) from my account and I will have to buy EVERYTHING again. Does anyone know if it'll delete all of my purchases or, better yet, does anyone know how to bypass this? I never remember this happening when I had iOS 6. I do have it backed up to my MacBook Pro.

You will need to restore your device as New to remove a Restrictions passcode. Go through the normal process to restore your device, but when you see the options to restore as New or from a backup, be sure to choose New.
You can restore from a backup if you have one from BEFORE you set the restrictions passcode.

i had my iphone replaced yesterday and wondering if i am suppose to set up as a new iphone or restore from the backup of the iphone

Actually, they will both accomplish the same thing on a new
(different).  The difference is that setting up new will lead
you through all the questions and such and restore from backup
    will just do it.
So, if there are some things that you may want to change
as far as syncing, mail, etc., set up as new. If you want
nothing to change, go the restore route.

It will not do anything at all to your computer.

  • Someone tell me how I can sync my music to my iPhone without it saying on itunes "set up as a new iPhone" or "restore from the backup of: iPod"

someone tell me how I can sync my music to my iPhone without it saying on itunes "set up as a new iPhone" or "restore from the backup of: iPod"

You must be trying to sync it with a different computer than the one it used last. No, there is no other way to do this.
The iPhone may be synced to one and only one computer at any given time. If you choose to sync it to another, you can do that as often as you wish, but its content is erased first.

  • HT4623 I have a new handset as my previous one was damaged. With regards to backing everything which option do I choose when backing up, set up as a new iphone or, restore from this backup  iphone?

I have a new hanset as my previous one ws damaged and everything was lost.  When backing up which option should I use "set up as a new iphone or, restore from this , back up Jo's iphone"..
    Thanks.

You may do whatever you like.
If you want to set it up using the backup of your old iphone then choose that.
If you do not then choose as new.

  • I previously had an iTouch, now a new iPhone. Setup as new iPhone, or restore from iTouch backup?

I previously had an iTouch (3rd generation - 32 GB), now I have a new iPhone 4S. During the beginning of the setup process in iTunes, after reegistering the new iPhone with APPLE, when I am asked to set it up as new iPhone, or to restore it from my previous iTouch backup, which do I choose? It isn't clear to me, and I can't find the answer anywhere.
If I choose to set it up as a new iPhone, will I lose all my apps and all my previous settings (and start over)?
My computer is a MacBook laptop.

If you set up it as new, you will lose the settings, but not your apps. You can try to restore from the backup because you will recover your settings and your apps automatically

If you have a backup, restore the backup. It will restore the settings you had on your old phone

  • Failed to backup my new iPhone, then restored from iPod, lost pics on new iPhone!

I have been using an iPod for two years, and been good about backing it up.  I finally bought an iPhone, and backed up my iPod one final time.  I then didn't find the time to restore to the new iPhone, and used it for two whole weeks.  I finally remembered, and restored from my old to my new iPod.   Unfortunately I forgot I had taken 100 pics on my new iPhone, and I lost them all.  Are they recoverable?  My son's first homecoming and first crew regatta pictures (of course). Heartbroken.  I sent a few pics to my son, but I lost the rest.  Thanks for helping is you can.  Yes, I learned my lesson!

That is a shame. See Backup your iTunes for Windows library with SyncToy for a way to backup your iTunes library and other personal data folders.

  • Ipod reset to old setting with old icloud ID.  How do I reset it to use new login for icloud and then restore from icloud backup

My upgrade to iOS 8 failed and I had to restore my iPad from an old backup (since restoring from cloud wasn't given as an option).
Now the iPad has my old iCloud account configured instead of the one I've been using for the past year or so.  How do I:
    1. Get the iPad to use the correct iCloud account?
    2. Restore the iPad from an iCloud backup?
Everytime I try to log out of iCloud it prompts me for the password on the old account to allow me to turn off "Find my iPad".  I don't think that account even exists anymore.  I tried to reset the password on the old account (using an old email address), but the password email never arrives.
    Help!

Make sure you are signed into iMessage and FaceTime with your current ID.  If they are signed into the old ID, go to Settings>Messages>Send & Receive and Settings>FaceTime, tap the ID, sign out, then sign back in with your current ID.
Then temporarily recreate the old ID by going to https://appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your current iCloud ID.  Click edit next to the primary email account, change it back to your old email address and save the change.  (You should not have to verify the old email account so it doesn’t matter if you no longer have access to it.)  Now go to Settings>iCloud, turn off Find My iDevice and enter your current password when prompted (even though it prompts you for the password for your old ID).  Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Sign Out (or Delete Account if you are not running iOS 8) and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https://appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address back to the way it was.  Now you can go to Settings>iCloud and sign back in with your current iCloud ID and password (your data will download back to your device).
If you need to restore an iCloud backup, it's explained here: iCloud: Restore your iOS device from iCloud.

  • IPhone 4S restored from iPod backup

Hi my son is getting my iPhone 4S and I restored it from a backup taken from his iPod touch, only problem is we have lost everything associated with the cellular side of the iPhone. Is there a way in which this can be done without losing the phone options

I'm having the same problem. I just bought the 5s and tried to restore my previous phone backup. I have tried everything - updating all the software, rebooting, restoring defaults etc. Then, out of frustration, I tried to restore a very old backup and it worked, except that didn't help me because it's over 2 years old. So i know it's not the new phone. I'm completely puzzled. Lots of people on here are saying to find and delete the backup on your hard drive, but  I can't even find that on my computer (I have no hidden files). Anyway, I have Windows Vista. Any help is appreciated! Thanks.

I have forgotten my passcode for restrictions.  I tried to reset to factory settings and then restore from a backup; apparently my old passcode is part of that back up.  I'm told i need to reset to factory settings to remove the old passcode. but how do I get my stuff back if I can't restore it?
    Please help, someone!
    thanks.

  • IPhone 4 restore from backup loop?

So the other day I accidentally deleted all the texts to my girlfriend. So i read about this on the internet and it told me to back up the iPhone and restore from the backup to get my texts back. So I tried it and after i restored from the created backup, the iPhone was backup to normal, except all my apps and music was missing. So i went to iTunes to sync it to get everything back, when i realised iTunes was back at the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen again. So i clicked restore from backup and selected the backup again and it did its business. Then when it was finished it returned to the "set up as new iphone or restore from backup" screen yet again! This now happens everytime I try restore from the backup. I've put the iPhone into restore mode and resored the 5.0.1 firmeware many times, but when i click on restore from backup, it does the same thing as above. I've made sure iTunes is the latest and run the diagnostics but everything up to date and working. Please help, i do not want to lose my messages or have to set the iPhone up as new.
    Any help is appreciated
    Thanks in advance

The iPhone Backup Extractor extracts data from iPhone backups. As such, so long as the last backup was taken before the data was deleted, it will recover your information automatically. However, if the data was deleted before your backup was taken, it makes sense that the backup won't contain your data. Fortunately, Apple don't purge deleted data from their database files, so it is often possible to recover some deleted SMS, note and contact data. By extracting the SQLite databases from your backup in Expert mode, and opening them in Notepad, you should see fragments of any data that has been deleted. This isn't the easiest way to recover data, and reassembling contact information isn't easy, but it's better than losing the data altogether!

  • I want to reset my IPhone 4S but don't know the passcode?

I'm having problems with my phone and want to reset it however it's asking for a passcode, I have no idea what this is and have never used it before, I don't have a passcode lock on my phone either. Is there an original default code or how do I reset it without inputting the code?

When the iPhone crashes, locks up in a way that prevents the iPhone from responding to being turned off, or just isn't working as it should (you'd be surprised at how many problems can be solved by a simple reset) you need to reset the iPhone. Here's how:
Reset the iPhone by holding the sleep/wake button at the top right of the device and the home button at the bottom center of the face at the same time.
Hold them both until you see the screen go black. In some cases, you may need to keep holding them even after the red power off slider appears. If it does, just keep holding it.
Wait until the white Apple logo appears.
When this happens, you can let go - the iPhone is rebooting.
An iPhone reset will not normally remove or delete any data or settings. However, the term reset is also sometimes used to mean deleting all content from the iPhone and/or restoring from a backup.

Place your iPhone into recovery mode as described here.  You may have to try to enter recovery mode more than once to succeed.
