I want to restore my iMac to original settings. Help needed

Alright guys.
I am going to sell my iMac, therefore I would like to restore it to factory settings. However I have lost the discs that came with it.
I have been having a look online for replacment but there are a few different options and I want to make sure that I purchase the correct version.
I believe the model number for my Mac is MB323LL/A.
On the online spec it says it is installed with Mac OS X v10.5 Leopard.
Does it have to be restored with this exact version, or is the 10.6 version ok? Also, I've seen that there are a few differnt variations of intsall disc, so I'm a little confused.
If anyone could point me in the right direction then that would be great.
Thanks very much

Call Apple and request a replacement install DVD. It is part of the Mac and should be included when you sell it. They will charge a nominal fee for shipping and handling.

  • I want to restore my iMac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Factory Settings

    Hi,
I want to restore my iMac Snow Leopard 10.6.8 to Factory Settings but the problem is I don't have OS Disc because it wasn't shipped with iMac. Also, when I restart the system and press Command+R nothing shows it just starting as usual. Could you help me please?
    Regards.

Command + r won't work with Snow Leopard (OS X 10.6) - it only works with Lion and Mountain Lion. Did you buy the Mac new - if so it would have shipped with 2 grey disks, one for restoring and one with the iLife apps and a few other bits. If these are missing you'll need to call Apple and purchase replacements giving them the serial number of the Mac. They will make a modest charge for this.

Look in /Users folder. You can go to System Preferences > Users & Groups, open the lock and "-" delete the account it created.
This is a problem whenever you use migration assistant after the initial install. The proper way to run Migration Assistant is in Setup Assistant when you first boot your Mac. I don't know why Apple isn't clearer about this issue.

  • I want to reset my iMac to factory settings but want to save my iTunes library first.  Is that possible?

I have an older iMac (first of the Intel Duo Core) that is running extremely slowly - the rainbow ball spins for 30 seconds between most clicks.  I think it's just overloaded with too much old stuff.  I have most of my files stored on Dropbox. I want to restore it to the factory settings before giving up and buying a new computer.  I don't want to restore from my time machine because I don't want to bring along the old problems.  I have saved my iPhoto libray to an external drive.  Can I do the same with my iTunes?  Or can I somehow sync it to my iPad, iPhone or Air so that I don't lose my music?  If so, can you tell me how?  Also, this computer is too old to sync to iCloud.  Thank you for any help you can give!

AWesome - thank you!  Someone walked me through it with iPhoto.  Any chance you can walk me through?  Also, there's no copyright issue when copying my library back to my computer?

my iphone 4 would not back-up to to pc "because an error occurred" anyone offer any solutions to this,  I want to restore my phone to factory settings and reinstall my data but cannot back up first. Original problem is that I cannot connect to any wifi system anymore - have tried resetting network settings but did not work.

Try 1 step at a time and do a backup, if no joy then do the next step:
    1. Switching off your anti-virus and firewall.
    2. Computer iTunes menu > Edit > Preferences... > Devices > delete your backup

Install or Reinstall Lion from Scratch
If possible backup your files to an external drive or second internal drive.
    Boot to the Recovery HD:
Restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the COMMAND and R keys until the menu screen appears. Alternatively, restart the computer and after the chime press and hold down the OPTION key until the boot manager screen appears. Select the Recovery HD and click on the downward pointing arrow button.
    Erase the hard drive:
Select Disk Utility from the main menu and click on the Continue button.
After DU loads select your startup volume (usually Macintosh HD) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Erase button and wait until the process has completed.
Quit DU and return to the main menu.
Reinstall Lion: Select Reinstall Lion and click on the Install button.
Note: You can also re-download the Lion installer by opening the App Store application. Hold down the OPTION key and click on the Purchases icon in the toolbar. You should now see an active Install button to the right of your Lion purchase entry. There are situations in which this will not work. For example, if you are already booted into the Lion you originally purchased with your Apple ID or if an instance of the Lion installer is located anywhere on your computer.
If you upgraded from an earlier version of OS X such as Snow Leopard, the procedure you want is not this one. Let me know.

    Hi nandakishorekunuku,
I apologize, I'm a bit unclear on the exact nature of your question. If by restore, you mean restore it to factory settings (fully updated OS, erasing all current data), then you may find the information and steps outlined in the following article helpful:

Thanks for the info. I went here earlier, and it didn't help. It seems that the Firefox profile I am using is only the one created today when I reconnected with the browser, and no old one seems available. It's history in all the compartments I go to are all today.

  • Restore my iMac to original version

My Mac is having problems with and encrypted drive and I want to restore to an original operating systems or Maverics
    Best approach?

    john from los altos,
if you have the FileVault password, you can use these instructions to unencrypt your drive:
Restart (or power up) the encrypted iMac; hold down a Command key and the R key once you  hear the startup chime. This will launch OS X Recovery Mode.
Open Disk Utility, and select your encrypted drive.
Under the File menu, select “Turn off encryption…”.
When prompted for a password, provide the FileVault password.
Wait for the drive to be unencrypted; when it is finished unencrypting, reboot. At this point you can install your choice of OS X versions in the usual way.
The instructions to unencrypt using the recovery key are different, and require more steps.

  • DVD Drive broken on Macbook Pro.  Want to restore laptop to its original state.

Hi, I want to restore my macbook pro to its default state.  My dvd drive does not work, but I do have the discs that came with it.  Is there a way to reinstall using an external dvd drive?

    MDhennin wrote:
do I just plug in the external and it will automatically pop up?
you will want a ODD that supports dual-layer DVDs such as this one. it will not pop-up unless a CD/DVD is inserted but will be selectable as source/destination in apps such as Toast, iDVD, etc.

Realistically do you need everything from same?
What you dont use often, keep as a backup or archive on an external USB HD
