I want to restrict my windows' sizes.

I've worked on Macs that, if I try to drag a Finder window around, I can only move the top-left corner to the edge of the screen and not off of it. And if I us th resize corner, it will only allow me to move it to the top of the Dock and to the edge of my row of desktop icons. I like that. I like it to be within exactly those parameter, but with my new MacBook, I am able to make the window as large as the screen itself (minus the menu bar) and drag it off of the screen to the left, right, and bottom. Is there a way to restrict this?

Greetings!
Firstly you should consider removing domain users from local administrators group on each PC. As long as they are local admins you will have problems regarding to software installation, changing configuration and etc. After all you can refer to this link
for more information:
Control MMC Usage by Using Domain-Wide Group Policy
To make it short you can use this to restrict to MMC snap ins:
Policy\User Configuration\Administrative Templates\Windows Components\Microsoft Management Console.
Regards.

  • I want to restore default window size of iTunes.

    I'm quite obssessed with keeping default settings. So I never change size of window and of course keep using iTunes without changing its size of window.
    But today, the window size suddenly changed of itself - too small.
    I want to restore the size to what it used to be. (I'm not asking how to change the size)
    I tried deleting iTunes Library.itl, which works when it comes to the size, but is not desirable because I lost other data - such as Play list and play count etc.
    Are there any ways to restore the default window size of iTunes without deleting iTunes Library.itl?

    Did you ever figure this out? If so, please let me in on the secret!

  • Why is there a restriction on window size in Pages 5.0? And is there a way to make the window smaller anyway?

    I like to work with multiple windows open on the same screen at once. Now the smallest allowed width of the window takes up over half the screen (I have a 13 inch macbook)! This restriction is here whether or not I am zoomed in or out. Can I get aroundt this???

    The quickest way is to print to a new PDF and use shrink to fit. Be sure you set the paper size in the printer properties. Normally this is not recommended, but it is a quick approach. You would loss any bookmarks and other markup with the print.

    # In Firefox, type ''about:support'' into the address bar and press Enter.
    # Click the Show Folder button. A Windows Explorer window opens.
    # Right-click the Firefox taskbar icon and choose either Close All Windows or Close Window.
    # In the Windows Explorer window that opened earlier, delete the ''localstore.rdf'' file.
    # If you have Firefox pinned to the taskbar, right-click the taskbar icon, then right-click the Firefox icon in the menu that pops up and choose Properties.

    To add to Brett's suggestion,
    You could store the value for the last directory inside a lookup file (text).
    So when the user opens the folder, the folder selection is populated with the last one that was opened.
    This way, it allows the flexibility to open other folders and remember which one was last opened. Unless you want to restrict to a single folder, then you could do the same without offering a choice of folders. In that case, you could store the static folder location in the file.
    I use this method when developing code to make my life simpler. I have a boolean value that alters the behaviour of the vi (wired to a Case Statement) which allows selection why I run the vi and presents static settings for an operator. An example of static settings is the folder where the results reside. They can be indexed by login name.
    I'm sure you get the picture.
    Experiment and have fun.

  • HT2506 Preview is now opening full screen always.  Want it window size

    All of a sudden, Preview is opening images in Full Screen only.  It used to open in a window.  I have looked everywhere to change this back from full screen to window size.  I have checked the Preferences and Get Info.  Please help and tell Apple to quit messing around with our apps.  :-)  So annoying.

    Press the escape (esc) key to exit full-screen mode. Close all windows. Quit and relaunch Safari. Does the same thing happen?

  • Help window sizes

    Hi,
    Working in RH HTML,
    Generating webhelp and webhelp pro manuals.
    I wanted to know how can we define the size of the help
    window that opens once the help runs?
    I was able to able to define a customised help window under
    "Window" but am not able to select this window when I try and
    configure Source output - webhelp/pro.
    Though am able to select this window when I want to create a
    .chm file.
    Also, I wanted to know if there a way that we can restrict
    the size of the TOC window? Similar to what RoboWizard has. ;).
    Thx for your help

    Kewal

    Kewel -
    Brute force method would be to simply search for the
    frameset file that contains the phrase "220,*", and change those
    values to a width you do want, as a startup size. If you want to
    actually 'restrict' the maximum size, you will need a bit of
    scripting for that.

  • Window size and TOC

    Hi
    Working in RH HTML,
    Generating webhelp and webhelp pro manuals.
    I want to restrict the size of my help window
    1. I am able to define a custom default window for
    webhelp/pro to use, and also able to default my custom window for
    output in Webhelp/pro layout properties. But the help file output
    is in my default browser size.
    2. To over come the above I also wrote few commands in the
    template(this is a custom template which has got company header and
    footer created in RH HTML).
    Command 1. <body
    onload=self.resizeTo(600,500);self.moveTo(300,200) > or <body
    onLoad = resizeTo(600,500) - None of this worked
    Command 2.
    <script>window.resizeTo(600,700);window.resizable=0</script>
    - This didnt work also
    NOTE: I used both Command 1 and 2 turn by turn.
    3. Any changes to the template, should effect all topics
    using it as a template?If I write a code in the template it should
    effect all topics?
    4. TOC - Is it possible to restrict the a user not to change
    the size of the TOC pane?
    Thx for your help
    Kewal

    Hi,
    Thx for your reply
    I used Rick's code to change the size of my window, but I had
    to call in a different way I was not able to define the size in the
    body, I dont know why this didnt just work. So I did the below.
    I used the code for the below from Rick's site but I declared
    the function in the HEAD.
    <script language=JavaScript1.2>
    function Resize ()
    top.window.moveTo(0,0);
    if (document.all) {
    top.window.resizeTo(1000,700);
    else if (document.layers||document.getElementById) {
    if
    (top.window.outerHeight<screen.availHeight||top.window.outerWidth<screen.availWidth){
    top.window.outerHeight = 700;
    top.window.outerWidth = 600;
    </script>
    after declaring the above function I called it in the
    <body onLoad=Resize() >
    and this worked. Finally my help opened in a defined size.

    1) Padding is only placed on the top and/or bottom of the div. The elements within this div have padding on their sides. This saves you from any "box model math". Keep in mind, if you add any side padding or border to the div itself, it will be added to the width you define to create the *total* width. You may also choose to remove the padding on the element in the div and place a second div within it with no width and the padding necessary for your design.

    That's what APDivs do.  This is the single most common problem new people have with web page layouts.  DO NOT use positioning.  You don't need it.  Start over.  Learn to use CSS floats, margins and padding to align elements.

  • How to change Default Finder Windows Size?

    Hi all:
    New Finder windows show Macintosh HD and there is no problem in keeping the size or view options every time I open a new window (command + N).
    I can change "New Finder windows show" to another folder and works just as well.
    But when I open a folder in a new window (double click on an icon folder) the size of the window is very small and different from the window displayed by using command + N.
    Finder saves and applies default view options to all windows without a problem, but not the default size or in other words:
    default windows size is different from new finder windows size.
    In Snow Leopard I could change default size of all windows holding down the Shift key while dragging and changing the size but in Mountain Lion it does not work.
    I have also deleted all files .DS_Store but neither works.
    I searched a lot but can not find a solution to this problem.
    Thanks.

    As far as New Finder Windows (command+N) are concerned, there's no problem.
    All other folder's Finder Windows I have not modified manually are displayed with the default size shown in the attached image. That is the window size that I want to modify.
    Thanks.

  • How can I change the default window size of a new message permanently?

    The mail window opens up very small and every time I must increase the size manually. I want to be able to set it so it opens larger or at least opens to the saem size as a previous mail window, which is what Mail used to do.
    Also, can anyone tell me how to stop that new mail window from opening on the bottom left of my screen? I need to move it in orde to increase the window size. So, 2 default actions that are a psin to constantly deal with.
    Is there any guru out there who has had this problem and solved it? Thanks!

  • How can I switch off the automatic window size and set the size of the window manually

    I need to open the web-page in a window of a certain size. The javascript function window.resizeTo (w, h) does not work. If I open the window using the window.open ("", "", "width: w, height: h, ..."), there is another problem.
    The hyperlinks that have to be opened in a new tab in the same window or at least in the window of the same size, will open in another tab of the first window from which I called window.open().
    I do not know what it is, bug or as intended, but the normal full-featured window with the right size I cannot get.

    You need an extension if you want to set the window dimensions to a specific value or you need to open a pop-up window with window.open and specify the width and height.<br />
    Otherwise a new window opens with some default dimensions as saved in localstore.rdf and you can't easily adjust the dimensions via JavaScript in that case.

    if you want to get into full screen mode you press the arrows facing away from eachother in the top right corner
    there is another way to get to the normal tab if your in full screen
    make the curser go right up to the top of the screen and it will show the apple tab
    it will have two arrows facing together highlited in blue
