I want to see multiple firefox windows side by side - it just stacks them in tabs

When I click to open a second window in Firefox it opens a new tab but I can't see the windows side by side concurrently.

Because of my work I have to be free to set side by side images and for that I need only windows no tabs - some work resolutions does not work in tabs - I am going crazy trying to do that since all the options I have tried so far are null.

I had that add on and it didn't solve the problem. I cannot put two
tabs side by side to compare slides. I hate to go back to IE but so far outside no longer supported Safari is the only answer. Thank you anyway.

• Cannot open multiple firefox windows

The problem is I cannot open multiple firefox windows at 1 time. It keeps saying that firefox is running or it just spins on the 2nd time that we press on the firefox icon every time I do this. Can you please come up with a solution. Yes we can open up multiple tabs but cannot get more than 1 session running at a time.
Is there a fix for this?

Hello,
Try Firefox Safe Mode to see if the problem goes away. Safe Mode is a troubleshooting mode, which disables most add-ons.
(If you're not using it, switch to the Default theme.)
* On Windows you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the Shift key when you open the Firefox desktop or Start menu shortcut.
* On Mac you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by holding the option key while starting Firefox.
* On Linux you can open Firefox 4.0+ in Safe Mode by quitting Firefox and then going to your Terminal and running: firefox -safe-mode (you may need to specify the Firefox installation path e.g. /usr/lib/firefox)
* Or open the Help menu and click on the Restart with Add-ons Disabled... menu item while Firefox is running.

Once you get the pop-up, just select "'Start in Safe Mode"

If the issue is not present in Firefox Safe Mode, your problem is probably caused by an extension, and you need to figure out which one. Please follow the Troubleshooting extensions and themes article for that.
To exit the Firefox Safe Mode, just close Firefox and wait a few seconds before opening Firefox for normal use again.
When you figure out what's causing your issues, please let us know. It might help other users who have the same problem.
Thank you.

• Which uses more resources, multiple firefox tabs or multiple firefox windows ?

which uses more computer resources, multiple firefox tabs or multiple firefox windows ?

Each window needs their own resources to create and build that window, so opening extra windows takes more memory.
You can see the current memory usage on the about:memory page.

• Java plugin prevents opening of multiple Firefox windows

been having this problem intermittently. Have Java 6 update 22. Using Windows 7 Enterprise. To open multiple Firefox windows I have to disable Javascript. This works sometimes and does not at other times. But when it does not work, turning off "Enable Javascript" in options makes it work. Using Firefox 3.6.12

You are talking about two different types of code. See these KB articles. <br />

• In 4.0.1, if I have multiple firefox windows open, when I try to close one window, it closes all. Why can't I close just one window at a time?

I open multiple Firefox windows so that I can quickly Alt+Tab between windows instead of using my mouse to point to tabs. When I close one of my Firefox windows, the browser closes all my windows. What happen to the "Close" feature under the File tab? Why don't I have the option to close only one window at a time?

I don't understand what happened above, but ericn1, wasn't your problem that you tried to close one browser window using the red X, and ALL of them closed? How did any of the above help you solve your problem? jscher2000 gave you alternate methods of closing windows but said that closing a window with the red X "should" work. It doesn't work, because it is closing ALL your windows, not just the one you are clicking on. I am now having the same problem. with Firefox.
Understand I do not have the problem with any other program. In other words, I can open multiple windows in Paint Shop Pro, IE, Notepad, etc. and close one with the red X and all others remain open. It ONLY happens when using the Firefox browser.
The red X should close only the window that you are in when you click on it.
NOW, before someone suggests tabs, I don't like them and don't use them. My choice. Before someone says my browser is out-of-date, (3.6.13) I am using it because it was the last version that worked reliably on my computers, both at home (Windows 7 Professional) and my office (Windows XP Professional).
When I updated to the last Firefox browser, both computers started seizing up (nothing worked and had to reboot using power button) Removing that version of Firefox and going back to this version solved that problem. Fact remains, version has little to do with this problem. I've seen other posts around the net about this with different (newer) versions of Firefox.
So . . . does anyone have a solution to this that doesn't involve using keystrokes or hot keys to close windows instead of the red X that should work properly?

• I want multiple Firefox windows open w/different View settings - toolbars displayed in one, not in other. With the new version, I can no longer do that ?

I want to remove the toolbars in one open instance of Firefox but not in others.......this was possible in the prior version. Now if I change the settings in one instance, it automatically changes in the other open Firefox windows. How I can I make this work as it did before the upgrade? Thanks, Kris

Thanks a million! It was not intuitive to "swipe" the open applications up but it works perfectly!!
Thank you

• Ubuntu 10.11 through 10.04. Installed Flash-Aid 2.2.1. If multiple Firefox windows open any attempt to shut a one window, extinguish all windows. But they stay in the background to work invisible.

After installed ubuntu 10.11 through 10.04, whenever you try to close a window of Firefox, they close all that were open, but only become invisible and continue to work somewhere in the background. If you see a pop-up as the new window and if I want to close it on an simple button "X" then they are all close.
After killing over Terminal and restarts a firefox window, re-engage all windows that have been worked in the background but they are now visible. And again it is impossible to kill only one windows. Help !!!!!!!!

In case anyone reads this, I managed to burn my CD by changing the speed of the burn in iTunes. It was set on Maximum possible and I noticed from the CD Diagnostic report (see previous article) that the speed of the drive was listed as 16, but the burn had failed at 24x, so I reduced it to 12 to be safe, and it worked. It plays okay in the car but I have noticed that when I restart the player, it doesn't seem to recognise the CD and ejects it so that I have to push it back in, and it then starts at track 1 again. Not sure if this is to do with the way it was burned, but at least its playing the tracks!

• How to close multiple firefox windows (not mulitple tabs)

I often have multiple internet windows open (often each window will have multiple tabs). I would like to be able to exit all the windows with just a single close of firefox. Currently, I can close each window that has multiple tabs with a single close. I would like to extend this to multiple windows (each with multiple tabs).
In Explorer, I just right click on its icon and one of the options is to "close all windows" and that's it. I would like to see that option available on firefox. Thanks

Quit Firefox {web link}
Quit Firefox provides statusbar and Toolbar buttons to quickly shut
down Firefox. It is especially useful for laptop users.

• [Solved] When I open multiple Firefox windows an orange pull down tab appears and I cannot exit from any single window. I have to exit all of the Firefox windows to close one.

I like to open several Firefox windows when I am browsing the internet. Since mi reinstall of windows XP with sp3 I installed Firefox 5.0.1. Now when I open multiple windows they kind of window in a window and I get this orange pull down menu. I can no longer close any one single window. I click the lower of the two top right X's to close the window and all the tabs in that window, but nothing happens. I also don't like the look and feel of the orange pull down menu

Start Firefox in <u>Safe Mode</u> to check if one of the extensions is causing the problem (switch to the DEFAULT theme: Firefox (Tools) > Add-ons > Appearance/Themes).
*Don't make any changes on the Safe mode start window.
In Firefox 4 and later Safe mode disables extensions and disables hardware acceleration.
*Tools > Options > Advanced > General > Browsing: "Use hardware acceleration when available"
If disabling hardware acceleration works then check if there is an update available for your graphics display driver.

• Want to stop multiple spam windows from opening when I click on a link

All of a sudden when I click on a link all sorts of spam windows open up. I have "Pop-Up" windows set to off....but they still open...also all of a sudden pages on line will have tons of words highlighted as hough they are links.... and when I click on them thinking it is a link it is another annoying pop up window. I have checked my "plug ins" and "add ons" and there is nothing there that I can find. I am using Windows 7 and this problem just began this week. I ran a McAfee scan and found no virus......can you help???

Really? It's not there? Huh, that's odd...
Your System Details show that there is one. Is this the same Firefox installation that's having problems or did you post it from another computer with Firefox installed?

You should always pay attention when installing software because often, a software installer includes optional installs, such as this adware. Be very careful what you agree to install.<br>
Adware gets on your computer after you have installed a freeware software (video recording/streaming, download-managers or PDF creators) that had bundled into their installation this browser hijacker.
You can use the below steps to revert back to adware-less Firefox.
1) <u>Reset Prefs</u>
*Navigate to about:config in your Address Bar
*Press the "I'll be careful, I promise!" button to proceed
*Search for <b>trovi</b> and reset all prefs that pull up by right clicking > Reset
*Also search for <b>conduit</b> and reset all prefs to be sure it's gone.
2) Remove any programs that you don't recognize or remember installing from your Control Panel (Start > Control Panel > Uninstall a Program)
3) Remove any extensions that you don't recognize or remember installing from Firefox.
*<b>Firefox 29 and above:</b>(Press the menu button ( > Add-ons > Extensions)

• Why is Windows 7 showing firefox tabs open on a single window as multiple firefox windows on the taskbar?

if i open an extra tab, an extra firefox icon gets added to the taskbar (stacked icons turned on) If i close a tab, an icon disappears.

You can try to set some browser.taskbar.lists.* prefs to false on the about:config page.
* browser.taskbar.lists.enabled
* browser.taskbar.lists.frequent.enabled
* browser.taskbar.lists.tasks.enabled
I'm not on Windows 7 so I don't know which effect those prefs have.

• Can not run multiple firefox windows with version 4

After the upgrade to FF4 the problem started happening. In ver 3 I used the profile manager and was able to run 2 firefox windows at the same time with no problems in Windows 7.
Now when I try to do this with version 4, one firefox window errors out with 'firefox stopped working'
I thought it was due to an incompatible add on or something, so I did a complete program removal, rebooted, cleaned the registry and removed all folders that firefox put on my system. The problem continues.

You can only run multiple version at the same time if the next version is started with the -no-remote switch added to the command line in the desktop shortcut.
"C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox XX\firefox.exe" -no-remote -P

• Can't see my Firefox window and tabs, but they are somehow open

Yesterday I had a single Firefox window (with approx. 20 tabs) open, and then the window disappeared. I figured that I'd lost all my tabs.
When I opened a new window, and attempted to check my Outlook mail, I got the message "There was a problem opening your mailbox. You may have already signed in to Outlook Web App on a different browser tab. If so, close this tab and return to the other tab." I am now hearing a *ding* whenever I get a new email. However, I cannot find the window or tab in which my Outlook is open! It's like the Firefox window is invisible or hiding somewhere.
If possible, I'd like to locate this invisible Firefox window, and not have to re-locate all the websites I had open in the tabs. I've opened the Windows Task Manager, but it doesn't show any open Firefox applications.
Any ideas? Where is this open Firefox window hiding?

Thank you much!

• Can't see the Firefox window when it starts.

Running Windows 7 home edition. On opening Firefox, the window appears to try to open to the right of the screen. There is no window visible apart from the small preview in the task bar. Consequently, I can't drag, click on or access any of the options. This happened after installing Silverlight which has now been deleted. Firefox has also been deleted and reinstalled. Any ideas?

I managed to solve things by getting it to open in 640 x 480 and then restoring a previous version. There was no way to drag, move or bring the window back to the screen that I could find. Apparently an update was released to fix the problem of the screen wandering off. I didn't have that problem but the update automatically installed and disappeared the Firefox window off the screen. It was only Firefox that had the problem.

• Anyone else want to see multiple white balance points?

I would like to see multiple white balance points as an option when color balancing.
AK

I would like to see a brush that would apply a different white balance to an area;  e.g. incandescent auditorium lighting with projection screen needing separate balance.  Similarly, a brush that would apply effects within a clickable or shaped border  would greatly help.
Also, superimposing two images as layers would really help; e.g. for HDR effects, etc., without exporting to external editor.
