I want to set up WEP 128 security

I am trying to set up WEP 128 security on an Airport Extreme base station because of one older computer that is not able to handle WPA.  The box says
that this is supported, but the drop down menu for security settings does not show WEP as an option.  How can I get WEP 128 set up or do I have to return
the hardware?

Open AirPort Utility and click Manual Setup
Click on Wireless just below the row of icons
Hold down the option or alt key (it might be control on a PC) while you click on the Radio Mode selection box and select the following Radio Mode:
802.11a --- 802.11 b/g
Now hold down the option or alt key (It might be control on a PC) while you click on the Wireless Security selection box and you will see WEP 128 BIt as a choice

I want to set up security for my linksys network.  I followed the directions outlined on the linksys web site.  I get through the process, create a password (key) and I save the settings.   When I try to log on from my laptop, I am asked for a password, however when I type the password in, the statement says "invalid number of caracters.  How do I get the password process to work so that I am able to secure my network.  Also, without security, can someone break into my laptop and corrupt my files.

With WEP, you must enter WEP "key 1"  (found in the router)  into your computer, not the WEP password or passphase.
However, you should be using WPA2, or at least WPA, and a strong password.
If you use an unsecured wireless router, anyone within range can login and use your Internet connection. At a minumum, this means that they will be using your bandwidth. At worst, they could be uploading copyrighted music, sending spam email, distributing viruses, or downloading child pornography --- all from an account with your name on it!   Additionally, once someone is on your wireless network, they are in a very convenient spot to start attacking your computer.  They  have immediate access to all your shared files, and they could corrupt, steal, or delete them.  With some work, they could likely get to your other files also.  So my advice is --- secure your wireless network.
To set up wireless security, you must use a computer that is wired to the router.
Where to find the router settings: The router's login password is usually on one of the "Administration" pages. The other settings are all found in the "Wireless" section of the router's setup pages, located at 192.168.1.1
First, give your router a unique SSID. Don't use "linksys".
Make sure "SSID Broadcast" is set to "enabled".
Next, leave the router at its default settings (except for the unique SSID), and then use your pc to connect wirelessly to the router. Test your wireless Internet connection and make sure it is working correctly. You must have a properly working wireless connection before setting up wireless security.
To implement wireless security, you need to do one step at a time, then verify that you can still connect your wireless computer to the router.
Next, encrypt your wireless system using the highest level of encryption that all of your wireless devices will support. Common encryption methods are:
WEP - poor (see note below)
WPA (sometimes called PSK, or WPA with TKIP) - good
WPA2 (sometimes called PSK2, or WPA with AES) - best
WPA and WPA2 sometimes come in versions of "personal" and "enterprise". Most home users should use "personal". Also, if you have a choice between AES and TKIP, and your wireless equipment is capable of both, choose AES. With any encryption method, you will need to supply a key (sometimes called a "password" ).
The wireless devices (computers, printers, etc.) that you have will need to be set up with the SSID, encryption method, and key that matches what you entered in the router.
Retest your system and verify that your wireless Internet connection is still working correctly.
And don't forget to give your router a new login password.
Picking Passwords (keys): You should never use a dictionary word as a password. If you use a dictionary word as a password, even WPA2 can be cracked in a few minutes. When you pick your login password and encryption key (or password or passphrase) you should use a random combination of capital letters, small letters, and numbers, but no spaces. A login password, should be 12 characters or more. WPA and WPA2 passwords should be at least 24 characters. Note: Your key, password, or passphrase must not have any spaces in it.
Most home users should have their routers set so that "remote management" of the router is disabled. If you must have this option enabled, then your login password must be increased to a minumum of 24 random characters.
One additional issue is that Windows XP requires a patch to run WPA2. Go to Microsoft Knowledge base, article ID=917021 and it will direct you to the patch.
Sadly, the patch is not part of the automatic Windows XP updates, so lots of people are missing the patch.
    Note:
WEP is no longer recommended. The FBI has demonstrated that WEP can be cracked in just a few minutes using software tools that are readily available over the Internet. Even a long random character password will not protect you with WEP. You should be using WPA or preferably WPA2 encryption.

  • IMac G5 Airport Extreme Card WEP/WPA Security connection Problem

I have an iMac G5 (non Intel) and a wireless Belkin 801.g MIMO router. When I have no security setup on the router (ie straight out of the box)then the Airport Express card connects to the network without problems. As soon as I set either WEP or WPA or WPA2 security on the router and input the correct settings in the Airport configuration in system preferences the card sees the Network but will not connect. I simply get the message "error connecting to network". I have a Windows based laptop with built in wireless card and this has no problems at all connecting to the secured network, whether it is WEP or WPA or WPA2. Does anyone have any thoughts or ideas please?

I have the same problem with my new black MacBook and a Netgear router. I can connect to the 'free' networks all around me, my Airport Extreme card sees the wi-fi network in my home that I want to connect to, and my old iBook with its lowly Airport card connected (and still does) with no problem using the '40-bit hex' option when entering the password. But now all of a sudden there are just 'errors' when I try to connect (having tried all the various options, and two different types of passwords or keys as provided by the network administrator). Oh yeah, and of course Apple Support won't help because they don't want to know about problems relating to third-party technology... We can't be the only ones with this problem!

  • Setting up WEP on AP350

We just purchased Cisco AP350 and I'm wanting to use WEP but when I go to the security--Radio Data Encryption (WEP). I get the following message at the top of the screen "Use of Data Encryption by Stations is: Not Available
Must set an Encryption Key or enable Broadcast Key Rotation first " I then when to Network ports---Ap Radio---advanced and put 900 in the "Broadcast WEP Key rotation interval (sec):" Once I did that I went back to security and the options of "no encryption, optional encryption, and full encryption" were there but when I put in a key it would give me an error message saying it was an invalid field. Any idea what I'm doing wrong?? I don't know if I want to enable the broadcast key rotation or not and I can't find any other location to put in a Encryption key...Thanks in advance.....BMC

WEP Encryption for Aironet 352 using iPAQ
In the ACU there is a setting named WEP
    This Setting has Two values
    Dissabled and Enabled
    Now, I want to know, when enabled . . . .
A: Can it handle 128bit Encryption
B: If not can it Handle 64bit
C: If not what is the point in having WEP
D: If it can, then where do I put my 4 Keys for 64bit or my Hex key for 128bit?
I am pretty sure that I am up-to-date with all the new drivers to the Aironet 352 for the Win CE, and any new firmware for the PMICIA card that I may require.
I have my CEM (Client Encryption Manager) but Any type of password/key I put in here, I always get an error message stating "Please Enter The Correct Password"
Is this where I am to put my Hex keys? Or even a PassPhrase? Yet I have tried both, and still get the same message.
I am puttin the Hex key in, in this format:
    112233445566778899AABBCCDD
    Is this Correct?
Or does it need to be in a different layout?
All SSID are the same, so there is not a problem there.
Everything works fine untill the WEP is Enabled on the Access Points/Bridges.
If anyone can help me with this, I would be most grateful.

  • WEP etc - Security Questions

    Hiya,
I have just moved from a Lucent system to the CIsco one and am in the process of setting it up. I have a issue about the secuiryt protocols ?
Which is the best ? But more importantly i have started by simply setting up wep in the following manner, (Data has change from our actual config but commands are the same)
    encryption vlan 6 key 3 size 128bit 7 5AEA6AD601CB91C3AED8D422B6FD transmit-key
encryption vlan 6 mode ciphers tkip wep128
    ssid Testing
    vlan 6
    authentication open
The network is running the vlan 6 correctly and i can ping however - if I purposly put a wrong WEP key in on the client it doesnt make any difference - the client still connects and i can access things as normal ?????
    HELP!!!
    Thanks
    Ed

I think this is because you are trying to use static wep & tkip at the same time. Use one or the other!
Tkip, with open authentication will allow anyone to connect, and will simply encrypt the data between the client and the AP using a rotating dynamic wep key.
If you just want to use static WEP, then remove the tkip and the authentication open.
You should probably look into using something more secure such as EAP with TKIP, or more.

    1. If you just want to run one application, control-click it and choose Open instead of changing the setting. This only needs to be done once per application.
    2. Ensure that you trust any software you choose to open in this way.

  • New iPad asks for WiFi password. There is none. My WiFi uses WEP 128 bit encryption, but there is no "password" to enter.

Brand new to the iPad. It's asking for a password to the WiFi network in my home. There is no "password" as such associated with this WiFi network. It uses WEP 128 bit encryption where each byte is a hexadecimal number and is called a "key" Typing this lengthy thing in gives me no results. The iPad keeps on asking for a password. I have three computers and a DVD hooked to the network which has been working for a decade, so that's not the issue.
Basically I'm stuck not being able to get onto the WiFi system.

Try this first. Turn Off your iPad. Then turn Off (disconnect power cord for 30 seconds or longer) the wireless router & then back On. Now boot your iPad. Hopefully it will see the WiFi.
Go to Settings>Wi-Fi and turn Off. Then while at Settings>Wi-Fi, turn back On and chose a Network.

Looks like you are right that it does not work for WebLogic 10.3.5 (as the documentation shows: http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E21764_01/web.1111/e13711/thin_client.htm#i1053779)
To see how you have to configure it correctly, you have consult the domain.xsd file (http://xmlns.oracle.com/weblogic/1.0/domain.xsd):

  • Setting up item level security access

    Hello,
I am new to Oracle Instant Portal and I'm trying to figure out how to set up item level security on a particular tab page. Can anyone give step by step instructions on how to make it work?
So, say that I have a tab page called HR. On that HR page, I have 3 items. For item1 and item2, I want user1 to have view access to these only, and for user2 they could have view access to item3 only.
I checked the option in the HR page's Page Access settings to Enable Item Level Security, saved the changes, and even cleared the cache, but it doesn't seem to give me any new functionality where I could specify that for item1 and item2, only user1 should have access to it, and for item3, only user2 should access it.
    Can someone please help?
    Thanks!

Please disregard--I figured out how to do this:
    1. When you are editing the page, you must click on the "Edit Item" icon next to the item.
    2. Then click on the Access tab in the upper right.
    3. Select Define Item Level Access Privileges and click Apply.
    4. In the Grant Access section that now appears just below, select the user id you want to grant access to the item and then click Add.

  • Being able to view my WEP wirless security password.

    Hello
I can't seem to find where to view my wireless security password. It is a wep 128 bit. When I click on the lock. I get a password assistant that doe not make sense. I would think if I click on the lock I could put my base station password in and then it would let me view the wep. I have gone to the keychain but can't find the wep password.
    Any help would be appreciated
    Thank You

    Tried to make this clear....
On the Base Station menu *(top of screen near the Apple icon),*
    Click Equivalent Network Password
The top of your screen is the area where you see the Apple icon, airport icon, date, time etc.
It sounds like you are looking at the window in the center of your screen.

Do I unlock under my itunes account first ( I now have a new iphone on this account) or set one up for her and then unlock the phone. I am worried about upsetting the new phone.

I would complete unlocking as is and then
restore as new once you know the iPhone is unlocked
Be aware Orange will process the request at their speed
one of the reasons they usually reside at bottom of User Sat surveys
    will likely take weeks

is whether you can advise me here or whether this is only a matter for
    the Fusion virtual machine.

If you want to use Time Capsule you can.. you simply bridge it and plug it into the existing router.. wireless can be either turned off or used to reinforce the existing wireless.. eg use 5ghz in the TC which is much faster than your 2.4ghz.
You can also use a NAS.. many brands available but the top brands are synology, qnap and netgear readynas  series. These will all do Time Machine backups although how well always depends on Apple sticking to a standard. There are cheaper ones.. I bought a single disk zyxel which was rebadged and sold through my local supermarket. It actually works very well for TM at least on Snow Leopard. Major changes were made in Lion and again ML so do not instantly think it will work on later versions. I haven't tried it yet with those versions.
Any external drive can be plugged into the mac. Use the one with the fastest connection or cheapest price according to your budget. USB2 drives are cheap and plentiful. But no where near as fast as USB3 or FW800. So just pick whichever suits the ports on your Mac. Interesting Apple finally moved to USB3 on their latest computers.
TM should exclude the VM partition file.. it is useless backing it up from Mac OS side.. and will slow TM as it needs to backup that partition everyday for no purpose.. TM cannot see the files inside it to backup just the changes.
You need to backup windows from windows. Use MSbackup to external drive.. if you have pro or ultimate versions you can backup to network drive. But MSbackup is a dog.. at least until the latest version it cannot restore the partition without first loading windows. There are about a zillion backup software versions for windows.. look up reviews and buy one which works for you. I use a free one Macrium Reflect which does full disk backups and is easy to restore.. to do incremental backups though you have to pay for it.
