I want to switch phones on my plan without switching my plan

I want to switch phones on my plan without switching my plan itself

Much will depend on the phone you have NOW and the phone you want to switch to "without changing your plan" - if you are wanting to switch to a smartphone from a basic or multi-media phone (a classification no longer available) you will need to add a tiered data plan.

I have iPhone 4s, wife has iphone 4. She works, I am retired. She needs Siri. How can we switch phones and get all data, contacts, calendars, etc to switch correctly?

First make sure both iPhones are using the lastest iOS 5.1.1. Secondly make sure all of your data is backed up in separate iCloud accounts one for each user. Make sure that you are all of the options in iCloud are on. Then you have to switch the sim cards.

This page will take you though the steps of backing up data and then restoring the data on both iPhones. Make sure to read everything before you start the process it is fairly straight forward.

You can use iTunes to restore or the iCloud option. I find that iCloud is much easier to setup but it requires wifi.

  • Activating phone requiring Data plan, without the data plan?

Anyone know of a store activating a phone requiring a data plan without purchasing the data plan? If so, which store? This is where I will purchase the phone I want if I stay with Verizon.
    Thanks.

what is the issue - why won't Verizon allow an iphone or any other smart phone to be activiated without a dataplan?
What is the purpose other than money?  Is there a legit reason?
I have an old 3g Iphone I would like to activate for my child and allow him to use data on wifi only, but.....
Their network and their right to charge what they want and what policies they want.  If people don't like the terms it's best to look elsewhere.  Currently there is no carrier in the world that doesn't require a data plan for a smartphone.  T-Mobile US is one that only if you bought the device outright you don't need one, BUT it's dependent on the plan you get.
Also the iPhone 3G will not work on Verizon.  Difference in technology...

  • Do you have to have phone voice service to have a data plan?

I see all of this stuff about $25 and $15 data plans for the iphone.
So my question #1, do I absolutely have to have a phone voice plan to make the data plan work?
I use the iphone as a ipod basically: games, movies, music, with surfing web, email, ect over wifi. but I would occasionally like the ability to use it when not connected to wifi.
Question #2: if there is no way to use the data plan without a cell plan, do they have 20 minutes a month plans? I currently use 10-12 minutes a month on my cell phone, but 20 minutes sounds good.
if both questions are no and no, then I suppose I should get an ipad which can get data plans by itself.

AT&T will not let you get a data-only plan for the iPhone. You must get both voice and data. And they do not, that I can find, have pre-paid plans for the iPhone.
So if you do not need voice, you should indeed get an iPad.
    Regards.

  • Switch phone numbers with a family member on a different plan

    Hello!
I have a Verizon cell phone plan and my mother has a separate plan. A few years ago my mother got a phone that she absolutely hated so I agreed to take her phone and she took mine. What ended up happening is that she has a phone that I technically pay for each month under my plan and I have a phone that she pays for under her plan. We are both at the end of our contracts now but I want to switch the phone numbers to the proper plans so we pay for our own phones. This is especially important since she wants to cancel  her account and go to a different carrier but I want to stay with Verizon.
How do I go about doing this? If she cancels her plan is there a way I can keep the number but bring it to my account and how will this affect my upgrade? I think my mother would also like to bring her current number (the phone under my account) to her new carrier.
Thank you very much for any help you can give me!

        Hi irishpat87,
Let's explore options to complete the number swap! As indicated by others (thanks!), doing an Assumption of Liability is a way to accomplish what you want to do and since you are at the end of your contracts (as per your original post), contract length carries over as is. I trust that this will answer your questions fully. Please visit this link http://vz.to/187wQRK for details on the Assumption of Liability process.

Does OS Lion handle Duplicates effectively? I want a review as am planning to switch to lion

I currently use an iPhone, an iPad, and a Mac computer for business.  The three devices have Contacts Managers that sync with each other through both Google and through Mobile Me.  Currently, this has created a mess of duplicate contacts.  Please advise me on the steps necessary for removing these duplicates and establishing a syncing solution that doesn't regenerate the duplicates.  There are several applications available that remove duplicates, but I am not sure which ones work or don't work.  I want information on this, but most importantly I want to understand how to fix this problem permanently.  Also, I read somewhere that Mac's new operating system, Lion, can help deal with duplicates.  I don't have Lion, but I would be willing to get it, if this would fix the problem.

  • Help! My iPhone 4 can not be switched on as it went off while updating. The error message come up on the itune screen to restore the phone but it can not be restored. Now I want just the phone to be on so I can use it!!!!

The error message come up on the itune screen to restore the phone but it can not be restored. Now I want just the phone to be on so I can use it!!!!

    Hey!
I have tried holding down the home and power button countless of times. It doesnt respond at all. Plug my phone to a charger and hold down the power button and my phone switched on. But it said Activation Required and said connect to Itunes. As e screen remains on the connect to Itunes screen, I disconnect the charger from my phone and my phone went dead instantly. My battery is full btw. Tried connecting to Itunes through my Macbook Pro but iTunes doesnt detect my device and the apple logo flashes for about a few seconds on my phone and then disappear and then came back on again. My Iphone has been connected to my laptop for about 30 mins and the apple logo has been coming on and off for 30 minutes now and Itunes has not detect my device yet.
    SIGHHH.

  • Want to downgrade phone/plan

I currently have a BlackBerry but I am looking to downgrade to decrease my bill ( get rid of data plan) , will I be penalized with extra fees for changing plan? I recently renewed my contract for 2 years

How recently? And did you renew directly with Verizon, or with a third party like Wirefly, Best Buy, or other reseller?
Verizon does not charge a fee for changing plans or phones during the terms of the contract - you can swap phones and plans as often as you like (just be aware of pro-rating if you change plans in the middle of a billing cycle!)
Third party vendors and resellers may have restrictions on the devices and plans though; in order to get rid of your data plan you WILL need to change devices, which may trigger a fee through the RESELLER's contract during the initial months.  READ the contract you signed.
If you have everything directly with Verizon, no worries, and no fees to switch phones to one that does not require the data plan.

  • HT1937 I used to have verizon as my phone carrier. But I don't no more. It's been more 5 months that I don't. I want to start using my iPhone 4 with a prepaid plan. Is that possible. Verizon said I'm not longer listed as their customer.

Verizon offers prepaid service on the iPhone 4. Go into your local Verizon Store with your phone. I'm sure they'll be happy to set you up with service.

  • Can I use two SIM cards with one iPhone5s? ie, switch phone numbers and plan, same carrier?

I live where there is no Cell service in remote BC Canada.  Fortunately, we have highspeed Internet!  Thus, I have been using an iPod Touch 4th gen & Skype to make all my calls for a 2 or 3 years.  I travel a couple of times a month into cell coverage.  I plan to use my iPhone 5s on a iPad Data Package when in cell coverage.  I called and asked bell if I could do so if I bought an unlocked iPhone.  I was told yes, but recieving calls would be very expensive.  I have email notification and a phone number where voice mails are emailed to me, so am able to do without recieving calls in most cases.  However, certain situations lead to frustrating telephone tag.
Just today, after receiving my unlocked iPhone 5s I realised that Bell also has a pay as you use plan that is very reasonably priced for cell calls only.  If I was able to switch SIM cards I could get both plans.  Thus if recieving a call or placing one was important I could just switch my SIM card.  Could that be done reasonably and practically?
I would appreciate an answer to this question!
    Scott

Let me see if i got this straight. You have two iDevices. One is an iPad, which uses 3G Data. The other one is an iPhone 5s. You plan on purchasing two plans, One thats has only 3G Data, and the other one that has only phone calls, and messages. The answer to your question is Yes. At least i done that with t-mobile USA. If your iPad is compatible with nano-sim cards, yes you can. If not, you will have to buy an iPad with nano-sim such as the iPad mini 3G. This is totaly possible.

  • I bought an LG phone and a $35 dollar plan card. Less than a week later it said I was out of time for texts. Apparently it only gave me minutes, not the plan I wanted. Is there any way I can get the plan without paying again?

So you bought a plan and used it all and want another one for free? I understand you thought it had more texts or whatnot but they won't do that since you already used the other plan.
That's like going to McDonalds and ordering a double cheeseburger, them giving you a double cheeseburger, you eating it and then realizing you wanted a double quarter pounder and expecting them to give it to you free.

  • Switching phones and activation fees

    Hi everyone,
I bought a new phone off e_bay (LG voyager vx10000) to replace my current phone. I realize I can switch and activate the new phone from the Verizon website but my question is.....when I activate my new phone will I still be able to use my old phone as a back-up? Also will I be charged an activation fee? I do not want to upgrade to smartphone or renew my contract. I am currently in a month-to-month contract and I would like to keep it that way.
I have done this process before but I never wanted to keep my old phone because it was always broke.Another thing I remember from when I done this in the past is Verizon asks you why you are switching your phone. Why do they ask this? Is it just like a poll type thing so they know why most people are switching phones? or is it to tell whether they need to charge you an activation fee? Does answering that poll (or whatever you want to call it) gonna affect whether I get charged an activation fee or if my old phone gets a bad esn or something like that? Also my reason for getting a new phone is because my old one is very out dated and want something a little more modern but no required data plan. My old phone still works good which is why I want to keep it as a back-up.
Hopefully you were able to follow along...I don't really want to call or go to the store I would rather activate online and soon.
I bolded the questions so it is easier to refer back to and find =)

There is no activation fee for activating a different phone on an existing line.  You only pay an activation fee when you start a new line of service.
As to the survey, I've never been prompted to answer any questions like that when switching phones.  The only reason you would not be able to use your old phone as a backup is if you report it to Verizon as lost or stolen, or fall behind on your payments while that phone is on your account.  If the phone is listed as lost, stolen, or tied to an unpaid account, it is placed on a blacklist and cannot be activated on any Verizon account.
You can either use the online tool, or just turn off your old phone and then dial *228 and choose option 1 from the new phone.
