I want to sync my iPod Touch 4th Generation with the iTunes on my new laptop. However, when I try, it says, "Do you want to erase this iPod and sync with this iTunes library?" Does this mean even my games, photos and iMessages will be erased?

"An iPod can be synced with only one iTunes library at a time. Erasing and syncing replaces the contents of this iPod with the contents of this iTunes library."
I used to use my desktop computer for all my iPod and iTunes needs, but it's Windows XP so I no longer use it. I now have a Windows 8.1 laptop which I want to use for my iPod. Photos can be backed up but I have a lot of game progress and iMessages that I don't want to lose.

You will lose your app data unless you backup to the new computer and then restore from backup will all the app in the iTunes library of the new computer.

Try this:
1. Sync to your Windows XP desktop so you do not lose anything.
2. Turn on Sharing.
3. Import your iTunes data from the Windows XP to your Windows 8.1 through Sharing.
4. Connect iPod to Windows 8.1 laptop, erase and re-sync.
5. You lose nothing.
6. Shazzam.

  • I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1 and my Photos, Videos, contacts, music, App data, etc. was deleted. How can I all the data back?

I updated my iPod touch 4th generation from the latest iOS 4 update (i think maybe iOS 4.3.5 or something like that) to iOS 5.1.1. I updated to iOS 5.1.1 on a Windows XP Home Edition with the Service Pack 3 installed on the Windows XP (which I believe is the latest version). After updating, I unplugged my iPod from the computer. I saw that all my photos and videos were on my iPod, but there were no apps. A window popped up and told me to enter a passcode for my iPod. I entered a passcode. I then locked my iPod and entered what I thought to be the correct passcode, but my iPod remained unlocked. Desperate, I tried many passcodes with failure. After a while, my iPod became disabled for a long time. I decided to reset my iPod. After I reseted it, I chose to reset from my earlier back up. After reseting, my computer loaded on all my apps. But, when I started using my iPod, I realized all my photos, videos, music, app data (like game saves and high scores), etc. were gone! I have no idea what to do and I am very stressed about this! SOMEONE PLEASE HELP ME GET ALL MY STUFF BACK!!!!!!

Go to iTunea>Preferences>Devices and see if there is a backupright at the time you did the update. Then try restoring from that backup. If the apps are in your iTunes library, any app data will be restored to the iPod.
When restoring from an iOS 4 (or later) backup, if the device had a passcode set, iTunes will ask if you want to set a passcode (and remind you that you had protected your device with a passcode). iTunes will not ask you to set a passcode when restoring from iOS 3.x and prior backups.
Therefore, remembe the passcode that you enter this time.
It appears that if you restore from a backup, that backup is not subseqyently overwritten by the next backup.

Apple doesn't do trade ins. You can get 10% off your next purchase for recycling your old iPod through Apple. You'd do better to erase your iPod and sell it on ebay, then use the money toward a new iPod. Hope this helps, good luck, Cheers.

  • Can I update Ipod Touch 4th generation  to the New Itunes?

    Hi,
I am trying to put the new Itunes on my Ipod but the more I read, the more I think I may not be able to
based on it running IOS 6 and unable to run IOS 7.  Basically my main complaint with the version
of Itunes on my Ipod presently is the user interface, for as many of you know it has a bit of an issue
sorting artists albums chronologically without putting in the year of the recording in manually.  The new
version of Itunes seems to do this automatically based on what I am seeing on my laptop and Iphone
which are both running it.  But unfortunately my Ipod is stuck with the old Itunes app.  Or is it?  There
is obviously no update waiting for me in Itunes so please don't tell me to do that.  Any help would be appreciated.
    Tom

    Hi Ana,
Thanks for the help.  I probably should have been a bit more detailed in my post.  I would like
the Itunes app that is on my Iphone 5s now to be also available to me on my Ipod 4th generation.
I only included the info on the new Itunes on my laptop as it seems to be the same as my Iphone
in that it now (not previous to this new version) sorts albums chronologically automatically.
It also displays the year of the album in the listings which is also new and appreciated.  Now
if I could just get this on my Ipod....

  • My ipod touch 4th generation adjusts the volume no matter what headphones i have plugged in. why is this? how can it be fixed?

will apple fix this for me even if im not under warrenty? it gwets annoying having to take my ipod out of my pocket every time i have to turn it up.

They can give you a replacement unit for a flat fee if it's no longer in warranty. See here for pricing.

If a reset, restore from backup, or restore to factory defaults fails to resolve the issue, it's mostly hardware related. In that case setup a replace or repairment either through Apple or a third party repair company.

  • TS3694 I have not been able to update my iPod Touch 4th generation to the newest software?

I have attempted to update it twice in the last two days. First I downloaded the newest version of iTunes, and then I clicked "Update". After about 2 hours an error pops up that says something along the lines of "Error 9006.  Networking or downloading error has appeared. Please check your network and try again later." I have no clue what that means. Because I have the older software I am now unable to download many of the apps I would like, so I would appreciate any help I can get! Thanks

  • My ipod touch 4th generation keeps deleting my music even after restoring it and I can't sync new songs anymore

Hello, I have an iPod touch 4th generation 8GB that I purchased brand new in January 2013. The device is currently running iOS 6.1.6.
It worked perfectly fine until today, when I tried to sync one single song on it.
While i was syncing it, I noticed that on the iPod screen, the song menu begun scrolling without me touching the display, some song titles became white (as when you're syncing a song) or disappeared leaving blank lines, until the music app crashed.
When I opened it again, it said that there where no songs in my library.
I tried copying my music on the iPod again, but it only copied one song, after that when I tried syncing more songs, iTunes kept saying "preparing synchronization" (or something similar) but nothing happened.
I tried restoring the device, and initializing it as a new iPod (without using any backups) and then I started copying my songs on it again.
But after the 15th song, the problem occurred again.
    What can I do?
Is it possible that it's the case of an hardware failure? My photo library wasn't affected, and except for the music problem, my iPod is running fine, it's not even an old device and no accidents even happened to him (like falling on the ground or something like that).
    Any tips?
Thank you in advance for your help!

I'm having the same problem with my 4th gen iPod touch. After the update my iPod synched and wiped all my music off - apps & podcasts weren't affected. Restored it a couple of times and that didn't work.
I tried copying a couple of albums over and it would do a couple of songs then the rest of the album would look like it had copied instantly. I tried playing the songs and it would play the first couple of songs once, then it came up with ! Beside every song (including the ones I'd just played and said they weren't on my iPod.
I've removed iTunes from my laptop and downloaded the few iTunes bought albums over WiFi to my iPod. The rest of my music is from cds or mixes/podcasts downloaded from soundcloud so I've had to use a different program to copy some of this music to my iPod for the time being until I can see how to sort this out.
