    Welcome to the Apple Community.
Homesharing gives you the option of seeing only the content in the shared library, that is not already in your own library.

  • Give me a simply way to transfer my ITunes from old Mac to new Mac. PLEASE!

I have a new MacBook Pro and want to transfer my iTunes from my old, but still functional eMac. I have my iTunes folder backed up to an external drive. My songs are a mixture of uploaded CDs and iTunes Store purchases.
I need a straightforward way of doing this. I have searched previous posts, but haven't found any to point me in the right direction.
Question: Do I need to first de-authorize the old eMaC? And then authorize the new Macbook before I begin any transfer?
Will it be easier to transfer from the external hard drive?
And, I assume, when I connect the external drive to the MacBook with Firewire, I just drag over the iTunes folder and drop it where?
Thanks for any help; the last thing I want to do is spend the next month posting questions on how to clean up a mess from one of my ham-handed moves.

you should authorize your MB before you begin. you can deauthorize the eMac later (unless you have already reached the limit of 5 authorized machines).
And, I assume, when I connect the external drive to the MacBook with Firewire, I just drag over the iTunes folder and drop it where?
assuming that the entire iTunes folder (not just the iTunes music folder) is on the external, just drag the folder to <MacintoshHD>/users/<yourname>/music on the MacBook. this will overwrite the iTunes folder (probably devoid of content) in that location.
when the move's done, firing up iTunes should take you to the library you were used to from the eMac.
Another question: Do I need to consolidate the iTunes Library before I do anything? I am not sure what consolidation does, but I remember reading about it.
when consolidating your library, iTunes will copy all files it knows of to the location you have designated in preferences > advanced > iTunes media folder location. for example, if you have spread content over a couple of smaller HD's and now want to combine all of it on one big drive, you would consolidate your library.
if all your media files are on the external already, you don't need to consolidate.

  • I want to transfer select music from my Mac to my Iphone 5 manually Do not want to use synch

I want to transfer select music files FROM my Mac Air (OSX Ver 10.9.2) to my Iphone 5 and do not want to synch my devices. I really do not
want to utilize itunes. I'm a new apple user and I am finding very simple tasks on the Mac and Apple devices very ridged. I do
need help in the music area.
thank you very much for your help. It will be greatly appreciated.

You very well may be correct but I find it hard to believe that everything on my iphone is automatically copied to my Mac and vise versa. I know there are apps out there that allow specific files on the Iphone to be copies to the Mac or PC without going through itunes. (I have one on the Mac and Iphone for trsf of Photo's) This app is a quick 1,2,3 process, no itunes involvement and they drop where I want in the file that I chose.
I'm now in the process of finding the same type of app for music that by-passes the old antiquated itune platform.
Again you may be 100% correct, and I do appreciate your comment, but I am still hopeful someone is aware of another cleaner approach.
    thankyou

  • How to transfer iTunes films from old mac to new mac

    Hi,
I think I know that I have to plug in my iPhone and deathorize the old Mac and then plug in to the new Mac, but I recall the last time I did this I lost the films I'd bought on iTunes. There's only 4 or 5 films there but I don't want to lose them - how do I transfer them?
    Thanks a lot,

Copy it to an external drive or over a network. Any rented movies moved through these methods won't play on the new computer.
Alternatively, connect the iPhone to the new computer and use the Transfer Purchases function in iTunes. Movies rented from the old computer will transfer and play.

  • Transfer of files from old Mac wiped out Leopard?

I bought a MacBook Pro tonight--airport extreme, new printer... Set it up, turned it on. It asked if I wanted to transfer files from my old Mac via firewire. Of course! So I did. This Book was supposed to come with Leopard on it--but it's not there and I don't know if it ever was since the first thing I did was transfer my files. It tells me it's running 10.4.10. Did transfering my old files to the new Mac wipe out Leopard? What's the deal?

After October 1? I purchased it **last night.** That'd be 42 days after October 1. And I specifically asked the sales person at the Apple store if it came with Leopard pre-installed because I didn't want to get into the update fiasco. Pre-installed and updating are two different worlds. I've been doing Macs since 1987, and I know what I'm talking about re. the difference between updates and "finished" product. That's why I waited until now, went to the Apple Store instead of buying online, etc. I wanted to be **SURE** it wasn't an update. If Leopard isn't on there (after I was told it *was*)--well, this ******really****** *****. And we all know Apple's policy here--"we'll give you the upgrade disk." I don't want the freakin' upgrade disk. I want what I was told I was getting when I shelled out at total of $3600 last night.

You have to update to 10.6.8 first.

Time Machine or other disk (Target Disk mode makes it look like an external HD).

  • Transfer iweb site from old mac to new mac

I was wondering if anyone knows how to transfer my iweb site from my old mac to a new one. I'm still using both computers.
    Thank you for your help.

transfer the "domain" file located in your user library/application support/Iweb.
    That contains the entire site.
Also one should always maintain a backup of the file. If it's lost your back to square one.

  • I am trying to transfer my photos from old mac to new mac.  I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!  What happened?

And how do I turn off FACES?

I copied the iPhoto library to an external hard drive, then imported it to the new iPhoto.  It turned my 2000 photos into 12,000!!
According to you youo did not do what I instructed - you said you imported the old library into th enew library which can easily take a 2000 photo library and turn it into 12,000 including two ro three versions of each photo pus all the face thumbnails
The correct procedure has NO importing involved
drag the iPhoto library intact as a single entity from the old Mac to the pictures folder of the new Mac - launch iPhoto on the new mac
    That is it

  • How to transfer mail accounts from old Mac running Tiger to brand new Mac?

I just ordered a new mac. Should be here on Monday (can't wait). I want to set it up with my existing mail (all my inboxes, and old messages, etc.). What would you suggest I do?
I was thinking I could move over my mail folder (wherever that may be) to the new account on my new mac. Will that work? Do I need to create the account first, then copy it over? Of copy it and then bring up Mail for the first time? I have several email accounts (gmail, .mac, etc.). Is all that in one place on the old mac?
I would appreciate some help. I want to be ready when it gets here.
    Thanks!

I've read that you can copy the ~/Library/Mail and ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.mail.plist and then start up Mail. The only worry I have is that Mail on Snow Leopard will not understand the "Tiger" version of Mail files. Can anyone confirm if this will or will not work?
    Thanks.

  • Got a new i Pod Touch and want to transfer all music from old Touch.

Bought my son a new iPod Touch for Chistmas (8 g version) and we want to get all his music off his old Touch onto the new one. How do we do that?

    OK here's how.
Sync the older iPod to iTunes using his computer with his account logged in(if he has one)
After that, sync the new iPod into that iTunes account. After doing the set up of the iPod in iTunes, you select set up from the backup of xxx-your sons iPod name.  Then its done!
Or, you can set up the device directly on the iPod itself and enter his Apple ID.

  • I want to transfer the data from old eMac to new-ish intel iMac. Before I do, I should disconnect internet, yes? Can I just pull the modem's cable out of the computer?

    Disconnect internet first?

https://discussions.apple.com/docs/DOC-2295 Explains how to work it.  And yes places like http://www.macsales.com/ offer Firewire 6 pin to 9 pin connectors which can be connected to the Thunderbolt/Firewire adapter of modern Macs or just plain Firewire 800 port on older iMac Intels.
