I want to try adobe illustrator

I want to try Adobe Illustrator but the programm is not listed in the download assistant. so there no way how i can try it. In addition in dont quit get why there is no clicking manu, the assistant is very confusing and the automatic download never starts. A simple list with your products with a tick list would be way better, in my oppinion. So sorry for my bad englisch, but thats kinda frustrating when you install and deinstall the assistant over and over again and nothing really happens.
Thanks for you efforts.

  • Want to install Adobe Illustrator CS5 on a Windows 8 tablet

We currently have Adobe Illustrator CS5 and would like to try to install on a Windows 8 environment; specifically a tablet.  I can find where the next version is compatible with Windows 8 but wanted to know if anyone was able to install using CS5.

    Daisy,
Here are the system requirements according to Adobe:
    http://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy-pricing/system-requirements-illustrator.html
Unfortunately, it seems that only CS5.5 (and CS6) can be used with Windows 8 (see under CS6).
But according to Microsoft, CS5 is compatible with Windows 8.1:
    http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/compatibility/CompatCenter/ProductViewerWithDefault Filters?TempOsid=Windows%208.1&Locale=en-us&Architecture=X64&TextSearch=adobe%2Billustrato r%2Bcs5&Type=Both&CurrentPage=0&TotalPages=1&ShowCriteria=0&SortCriteria=Relevance&Compati bility=Unknown&LastRequested=14
I am unsure about a tablet.
You may need to explore further either place.

  • Cannot get a trial version of Adobe Illustrator

I want to try Adobe Illustrator; I downloaded Adobe Creative Cloud in order to get a trial version of Adobe Illustrator. I downloaded it, updates included. At the end of the process I double click on Adobe Illustrator app and I get an error message: Your application install seems to be damaged, Please reinstall the application. That I obviously did several time. Always the same error message. I also used the Clean tool, and also un- and re-installed Creative Cloud, no way. Any suggestions? MacBookPro OS 10.9.3

  • May I download the adobe Illustrator to TRY - it's marked, expired. I never did TRY IT before it expired. May I now? I have Photoshop as you know

I am trying to discover if I am eligible to TRY Adobe Illustrator.  I have the monthly subscription for Photoshop.  There are no problems with it just that I have been learning from sources that the images from
Photoshop are raster not vector and I never knew,  there was a big difference (that mattered).
Now I am no longer sure of that.....I create illustrations for a book for children and also greeting cards.  When I ZOOM in on the images, in Pshp ...the pixels are of course 'ragged' if I go above 100%.
What I don't know is,  does that matter ?  And I am thinking - perhaps it does or will one day....?!
I am a senior,  living on Social Security.....74yrs young.  So I hope to be able to get the least expensive terms and see it is $29.......and the single app that I pay for now is $19 so wondering if one can
ADD the app for $29,  and thereby have Illustrator.
Is there a big enough advantage for me to do this......is the question.  If it doesn't 'really matter' for what I do,  then I'd just stay with Photoshop.  I do ZOOM in and DO have to 'clean up' images......
or feel-i-should-juste-in-case, an art department does or a printer will....with a greeting card company or a book-publisher/printer.
Hope someone can help me with this !  And I WISH 'someone' would be willing to look at one of my 'designs' ......just to be sure,  to understand what I mean !
These images were started some 25 years ago and continue to this day.  I am an artist/painter.......oils, pastels, watercolors......but started to do these 'designs' for the pure fun of it and they are
just that,  such fun.  Now if I can find a publisher that too would be fun !
    Thank you,
    Cynthia D. Ward

You only get one trial period.

  • What does Adobe Illustrator *do*, exactly?

It's been suggested to me that I should try Adobe Illustrator as a solution to my drawing problem.  I literally can't draw a straight line without a ruler, but I want to self-publish on Amazon, which means I need a cover, and I can't possibly afford to hire an artist.  I need to be able to draw a cover illo.  The imagines I want don't seem to be available online.  Can AI help me with this?

    Hi -
Adobe Illustrator can make art thru "freehand drawing"  and also in a way best described as "plotting a grid". You can make artwork with Illustrator without traditional drawing skills, but they help tremendously.
IF you can't find what you want on Fotolia or any of the dozens of places for stock art on the net, sign up for a Lynda.com membership and start with the "Introducing Illustrator" video by Deke McClelland (Watch the Online Video Course Introducing Illustrator). You won't be making art right away - you'll need to learn some specific skills and practice a lot. If you're in a rush find an artist or pick some stock art.
    Good Luck.

    Bryan,
You can download both at the same time.
But you may wish to start off with one and use it full time, then download the other later, so you get the maximum possible time with both.
If you have trouble getting the free trial on the Adobe site, you may try here or here:

  • Trouble selecting and moving objects near text in Adobe Illustrator? Try this.

It's been 4 years since I left Corel DRAW for Adobe Illustrator. One thing I could never get used to is the crazy way text has an impenetrable invisible sheet over it making it hard to select objects near or behind it.
With Corel DRAW I was used to be able to select text by simply clicking on the visible area of the text. Selecting stuff behind the text by clicking between letters or right next to a decender was never a problem. But Illustrator is a different story.
Tonight I finally found a way to make selecting text in Illustrator behave more like Corel DRAW.
    I wrote it up here: http://www.johnstanowski.com/blog/trouble-selecting-and-moving-objects-near-text-in-adobe- illustrator-try-this/
    Just thought I'd share!

It's not spam, but thanks for assuming.
I was up really late writing that blog post. Posting a link was the quickest way to share and be able to go to bed.
Plus it's rather lengthy. I thought that would be rude to use an Adobe forum for my articles.
If you saw my blog you will have seen there's not much going on there at all, and no calls to action to hire me. I don't have anything to gain by getting traffic.
And, yeah, layers work for selecting, but that slows you down. Who would want to look away from their work to find and select a layer when they're trying to tweak positions of objects? Layers suck for selecting quickly.
And there must be something wrong with me but I find using Type Object Selection by Path Only by itself hard to use. I'd really just like to click on the text itself rather than an invisible hairline you have to probe to find.
Here's the post. I hope people who had trouble like me find it helpful.
Do you have trouble selecting objects near Point Type in Adobe Illustrator? You’ve been there. You want to select an object. Problem is, it’s really close to piece of Point Type. All too often we try to select objects that wind up being unreachable because they lie too close to a piece of Point Type, which we wind up selecting instead. Luckily, after years of angst, I discovered a solution.
Point Type in Adobe Illustrator is funny. There’s this invisible “shield” around it. This shield is much larger (at least it seems that way) than the text itself. It prevents you from selecting objects behind text by clicking between letter and words. This shield is particularly meddlesome with lowercase letters and decenders because we think surely we can click on that blue box (or whatever) because it seems far enough away from that Point Type. But the lowercase “g” in the Point Type’s territory.
Okay, now that we know we’re talking about the same thing, let’s move on to the solutions.
Step 1. Check ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ in Preferences
You’ll find this option in Preferences/Type. Click it and that nasty text shield goes away. But there’s a price to pay. With this option activated, the only way you can select your text is by clicking on the text path, a super, tiny, thin baseline thingy under all the letters, but above decenders. It’s really hard to grab. To do it right you need to slowly approach the text path with your cursor. When you’re right over it, Illustrator will let you know by adding a small black square to your cursor. Now, you can click, hold and move your text. But this workflow can really slow you down and break your rhythm, maybe even more so with it turned off.
Step 2. Add the ‘Outline Object’ Effect
Select your Point Type and, from under the Effects Menu/Path/, select Outline Object. This effect does something really sweet to text in Illustrator: it lets your Point Type objects be treated as if their were converted to Outlines. You can still edit the text, but as far as selecting it, Illustrator now considers it outlines and shapes instead of a text object. Basically, it now considers the Path of the text to be the text itself! Now, since we’ve already checked ‘Type Object Selection by Path Only’ we can now click on the text to select it. Just the text. Not the baseline, not the wacky invisible shield surrounding it.
And now… you can select things behind the text by clicking between words and letters. And the ONLY way to select Point Type is to click on the visible parts of the text itself! Problem solved.
    Potential Problem:
Too much of a good thing could be a bad thing. Let’s say you have some Point Type set in a very light face and it’s pretty small or you’re zoomed way out. Selecting that text could be a problem since you have to actually click on the text itself. Actually it isn’t that hard, it may just require an extra click to grab it. If you have a set of smaller, light-faced bits of text, you can elect to just not apply the Outline Object effect to these. They’ll get their ‘shield’ back and be easier to click on. And since they’re so small, they don’t pose a problem with selecting things behind them anyway.
Applying this technique to your old files
Now that you’ve learned this awesome new way to work around type in Illustrator, you may be anxious to open yesterday’s project and get back to work. But you may be not be looking forward to applying the Outline Object effect to each and every piece of type. For this you can use Illustrator’s “Select Same” feature. Select one piece of text. Then from the Select Menu click on Object/Text Objects. Now ALL of your text objects will be selected, and you can apply the Outline Object effect to all of them at once!
That’s it. If you build ads or work with a lot of type in Illustrator, you’re about to be able to work a lot faster… and happier.

When i click more info it transfers me to an apple page which never loads, its just a blank page. I downloaded Java SE 6 like it says it needs but it did nothing. All of my other Adobe programs such as bridge, dreamweaver, lightroom, Photoshop, indesign, and flash all work except for illustrator. What can I do to fix this?

Go to Apple and look for the Java for OSX 2014-001 link. Download from there and install it.

  • I have installed a trial of Adobe illustrator on my macbook pro. I want to trace an image using the custom trace button but can't. Does anyone have any ideas how I could custom trace?

I have installed a trial of Adobe illustrator on my macbook pro. It is the 2014 release of adobe illustrator. I want to trace an image using the custom trace button.
I start a new document. Then I place my scanned pencil/colored pencil drawing, in to the document. I have tried scanning and then placing it as a jpeg, bitmap, and tiff file. I have tried scanning and then placing it, in color and in black and white. The scan mode I use is flatbed. Adobe illustrator allows me to select the default button and one of eleven preset buttons (e.g high fidelity photo), but it does not allow me to click the custom trace button. The custom trace button is grey while all the other buttons are white.
Does anyone have any ideas how I could custom trace?

It seems pointless to adjust it afterwards because it is then only a couple a pencil lines rather then a full drawing. And how do I adjust it afterwards? Would I do this using the different buttons under the window button?
