I want to turn off the wifi radio and only access my macs through the ethernet ports, I already have an excelent wireless system for my entire house, can I turn off radio?
How to turn off radio but still backup through the ethernet ports?
Thanks
If you are asking about turning off the wireless radio on an Apple router / Time Capsule.....
Open Macintosh HD > Applications > Utiltiies > AirPort Utility
Click on the AirPort / Time Capsule
Click Edit
Click the Wireless tab at the top of the next page
Change the setting for Network Mode to Off
Click Update at the bottom of the page to save the changes

I want to set up the time capsule. I have a D-Link router for WiFi to laptops. Do I connect the time caps to the D-Link or in place of it? thanks
You've posted to the iPhone forum rather than the Time Capsule forum, but to save you some time, you can either replace your D-Link with it since it is a wireless N router, or you can set it up on your LAN as an additional wifi router with its own unique SSID. If you do the latter, be sure to connect your mac to the Time Capsule rather than your D-Link so it will support your Time Machine backups.

I have 6p from a gift card left in the English store and can't spend it. I want to change to the Irish store as I have an Irish gift card for me to redeem but it won't let me change store. Also I don't want to use a credit card for the last 6p.

How do i stop sharing from my ipad to my wifes computer and only to my mac"
My ipad thru icloud is sharing the information on my wifes macbook including my contact lists, and apps. I also have an Imac that the ipad shares with how can I stop sharing to my wifes Macbook?
If it's sharing everything, it's because your account is set up on your wife's Mac.
On her MacBook, go to System Preferences and remove your account from it.

The MacBook has no fax-modem. You will need an external (USB) modem.

[SOLVED] turn off the ethernet port Leds
I've just found out that you can turn off the leds on the ethernet ports on my new router (linksys EA2700).
Is it possible to do the same on archlinux from software (if yes how?), or that is a hardware specific option?
Last edited by Slaw0 (2014-11-09 18:57:17)As far as I know the ability to do this does depend - to some extent - on the hardware (and/or perhaps drivers and kernel modules). But you can check /sys/class/leds to see if it is available there. There is no entry in leds for my NIC, but various other LEDs can be controlled there.

My wife and I share the same email address but have different iphone numbers. Is there anyway we can both us "Find Friends" apps? When I try to enter her contact name it won't allow me to do this. Thanks.
make seperate appleID's if you wish to be frinds or if you wish to facetime video chat and if you wish to not recieve the samme imessage msg's unless you turn it off
you can still set both your iphones to use an email address even if both have different appleId's
the appleID is a handle not a link to an email address -
How can I use some of the image i am working on to paint with? like if I wanted to give someone an extra eye in the forehead, ow could i then paint their own i in the forehead? I know there is a paint tool for that, i just can't find it ... :/
It sounds like you are talking about the cloning tool?
Tool looks like this:
Then when selected you can change the size of the brush and using Alt (windows) and Command (Mac) to select your region you want to copy then start to create you cloned image.
Hope this helps? -
I downloaded Yosemite OS X and when I try to select my HD (the disk) where I want to install it, the hard drive doesn't have enough space. I have a MacBook Pro bought in 2008. What can I do and still have all my files? I haven't backed up...
Freeing Up Space on The Hard Drive
1. See Lion/Mountain Lion/Mavericks' Storage Display.
2. You can remove data from your Home folder except for the /Home/Library/ folder.
3. Visit The XLab FAQs and read the FAQ on freeing up space on your hard drive.
4. Also see Freeing space on your Mac OS X startup disk.
5. See Where did my Disk Space go?.
6. See The Storage Display.
You must Empty the Trash in order to recover the space they occupied on the hard drive.
You should consider replacing the drive with a larger one. Check out OWC for drives, tutorials, and toolkits.
Try using OmniDiskSweeper 1.8 or GrandPerspective to search your drive for large files and where they are located.
I recommend that you also make a backup before proceeding. Just quit the installer. -
Is there a device I can purchase to enable wifi on my old iMac, like something that plugs into the ethernet port?
Yes! There are lots of wifi adapters that will work with OS 9 on old iMacs. You can find a comprehensive list of them here:
http://lowendmac.com/macdan/md09/mac-os-9-wifi.html
Belkin seems to make a lot of wireless products for OS 9, so that would probably be the name to keep in mind. You can see one of these here:
http://cache-www.belkin.com/support/dl/belkin_wireless_usb_network_adapter_manua l_os9.pdf
If you're using an iMac G3, I think those are compatible with AirPort cards, so that's an option too. Good luck! -
Connect WiFi to one subnet & the Ethernet port to a different subnet? (OJ Pro 8600)
Hello all,
I have an OfficeJet Pro 8600, which has both WiFi and an Ethernet port.
I have two routers at home: one for a fibre boradband line for business use and another for an ADSL line which the family use.
The fibre router has a 172.17.17.x subnet and the family router has a 172.17.18.x subnet. I would like to connect the printer wirless to the family router via WiFi and ALSO to the business router via an Ethernet cable. If I do the above;
Should I be able to print from both networks?
Is there a risk of the printer "Bridging" the two subnets in any way? (I like to keep businenss / family traffic seperate)
Any advice greatly apprecaited.
Al.
PS: I use a NetGear ProSafe Dual WAN router to sit across the fibre line & the ADSL line (it's configured to fail-over to ADSL in the even the fibre fails). Whilst the business & home networks are on seperate subnets; I do have the option to set-up static routing between them (only for the specific protocols & ports that the printer needs to work). Would this be a better idea than connecting the printer to two different networks?Hi,
There was a discussion on the following link:

In the garage I have a Netgear Router. it is connected by a ethernet cable, I have a 1tb drive that I want to use there. On the drive there is only a USB port. on the Netgear there is only ethernet ports. is there an adapter that will work for that?
It's not that simple. You need a "smart" device to connect a hard drive to, like a Time Capsule, or another computer, or an Airport Extreme/Express that was made to share a drive, or some other brand router that has a USB port for sharing a drive, etc.

I updated iTunes to 11 and now I am unable to delete anything!! Very annoyed and I hate iTunes updates anymore. It shows a cloud with an arrow for me to download and I dont want to download the items..I already have them! How can I delete this garbage??
I have the same problem. It's showing old podcasts that are available for download and I already watched and I don't want to see them again and I don't want them listed in my iTunes. This latest upgrade is a piece of junk so far. It destroyed my itunes podcast listing on my Windows Machine. I have no intentions of upgrading to iOS7 or my Mac until I hear that things are fixed.

I cannot access my Apple TV in WiFi mode. I have used it previously, but it keeps saying it is not connected to the network. My broadband is running. I was able to access Apple TV using an Ethernet cable. I have entered the wireless password as confirmed by my ISP without any success.
Hi,
Thanks for trying to solve my problem. It appears that the password I was inserting was incorrect. I now have access.
Thanks again.
