I want to turn the new guide off

I don't like the guide popping up everytime I change the channel. If I want to view the guide I will hit "guide." Any way to turn that function off so I can flip channels without the guide? Thanks.

I am not sure I understand what is happening for you. When I change channels, I get what I would call a "channel information screen" or "info bar" that covers approximately the bottom 1/3 of the picture? Is that what you are referring to? If so, that is the one item in the new IMG that really bothers me, it is too large and it stays on the screen too long, about 10 seconds. The only "solution", at least for now, is to hit the Exit button on the remote if you can't stand to wait the full 10 seconds. A pain, but I have sort of adapted to it, and generally now just let it display unless I am looking at a football game or something with action or info at the bottom of the screen that I really want to see.
I am hoping that Verizon will introduce in the next level of the IMG an option for us to set how long the info bar displays, with one option being Off.
If what you are seeing is something different, please give us a more complete description of what it is.

Is there a way to turn the wireless capabilities off on an AirPort Express?  I have an AirPort Extreme as my main router and use the express to just extend it. I only really want to you use the express for hard ethernet connections. For whatever reason when I have my express extend my wifi at home the download speed from just the express is absolutely terrible, drops to about 1.5 mb compared to when it's on the extremes part of the network the speed goes up to 50-75mb. These terrible download speed really only affects the iPhones as my MacBook Pro usually gets the good speed no matter where it is. I don't believe there is anything wrong with my phone because if I am in the part of the house that uses just the extreme the download speeds on the iphone goes up to 50-75mb. As a note I have an AirPort Extreme on the top floor of my house (second floor) that's where my modem is located. On the first floor that's where one airport express is located. I also have another airport express in the basement that is accessed by my landlord. Any thoughts on how to fix this would be helpful.

It appears that your networking goals with the AirPort Express is to use it as a wireless Ethernet bridge instead of using it to extend the wireless range of your AirPort Extreme. The latter requires that the Express Wi-Fi radios be enabled.
If you intended to use the Express as a wireless bridge, you just need to reconfigure it to "Join a wireless" network instead of "Extend a wireless network."

In an extended network, the placement of the extending base station is critical as it can only extend the wireless network at the bandwidth at which it receives it.
Please check out the following AirPort User Tip for details on optimal base station placement.

To see all the photos on the phone, including photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, deselect the "Hide Photos Already Imported" checkbox. If the camera contains photos that have already been imported into iPhoto, those photos are hidden by default.

This is not a reply. I just want to elaborate on this problem.
My computer freezes occasionally when it is used after being sleep for a while. The spinning ball appears and everything is totally disabled. Nothing on the keyboard works.
The mouse moves, but does not work.
The only solution is to turn the power off and on (losing all data in open applications.)
I kept the System monitor running on the side to find out which program was running when the computer froze. The Monitor as well as all other applications froze, but the data showed:
    Firefox 18.4%
    Activity Monitor 0.9%
    Firefox Plugin 0.2%
This is all the information I have. By the way, I am using iMac with OS 10.6.

I want to buy the new iPod Nano to play audiobooks. Does it remember the postion where switch-off took place and resume from there? Can one rewind and replay freely?

    1. Many thanks! I look forward to your revert on being able to freely rewind and replay with the 7th Gen iPod Nano.
    2. Re resuming from the position where one left off - I meant after switch-off and not merely pause. Often, with audiobooks, I have to stop for the day, and resume maybe after 1-2 days. I'll be grateful if you can check this too
    3. The above features make the iPod Classic a joy to use, but I have reservations about using it on walks because of its HDD.
    4. Greatly appreciate the trouble you are taking. Best regards.

  • The New Guide. GARBAGE!

Should i expect a pair of binoculars in the mail from verizon to ty to read the new guide? Seriously. Who thought that it was a great idea to make the logos and the things that appear on it so small that everytime that you try to read what is on it you feel as if you are at an eye doctor's office doing an eye exam? Now don't get me wrong my vision is fine but whoever decided to come up with a guide that is this small needs to modify what has been done or go back to what they used to have. Let me give you an example of where another company has done the very same thing where they admitted their mistakes and made the necessary changes in order to satisfy the customers. Microsoft a few years ago came out with windows vista which was supposed to be an improvement over windows xp but all of their customers hated it so they went back to the drawing board and eventually came out with windows 7 which is basically windows xp but a newer version of it where they allowed their customers a free upgrade if they were dumb enough to have bought windows vista which even microsoft admitted was a mistake. Netflix is another company who recently made a major mistake that cost them 50% of their stock where they lost 8 billion dollars in just a few weeks because they raised their prices plus they planned to break their company up into two by calling their dvd to your home service "qwikster" and that netflix would be only an online streaming service. What you guys could do in a new software update is do what microsoft did which is basically provide a newer and improved version of windows xp. Verizon could implement a 1.8 type of guide only it would be 1.9 with the images being bigger along with much of the information that appears on it. Learn the lesson that every company out there is starting to learn in a very hard way. Listen to the customers or your stock and bottom line will suffer an enourmous loss that could be difficult to recover from. While i am on here let me also mention that the data on your guide is still wrong and if there is anyone out there who could pass this on i would appreciate it. Channels 1540, 1704, 1705, 1620, 108, and 229 are off. I am currently in direct contact with channel 1540 cnn en espanol where i not your guys am working to get it corrected for everyone out there. I am also talking to the regular cnn channel 100 about getting their info corrected too because on the weekends it is off where for example the repeats of piers morgan tonight are not appearing and instead there is some hbo boxing show listed on the guide which makes no sense at all. Please understand that all of the hate that exists for the new guide from how it appears to the data that is on is because people want it improved which is what your goal should be too.

I see that a lot of people who just got the new guide are making the same complaints that a lot of people have been making for almost a year on here about how horrible and unreadable it is where what was said on here in a previous post are still major issues for people. The guide is too small. The colors in the background are awful and the logos are barely visible to most people. The full casts of movies and tv shows are not entirely there to try to verify if a certain actor is in a movie or on a tv show. An older person really struggles with the guide plus people who have not had issues with their eyes are now squinting to try to read what it is that is on the guide. Many people have big screen tvs along with the 7232 dvrs but it is still a struggle to try to read off of the guide. Not only is the guide's appearance an issue but the programs that appear on it are a problem too. Channel 273 mtv3 has "to be announced" starting all of next week for the next two weeks from 4pm-1am and cnn channel 100 on the weekends is wrong. Verizon has to make fixing the guide a priority before people go elsewhere for their services. For someone wanting to watch tv it should not be this much of a hassle where it gets to the point where you do not even want to turn on the tv because there seems to be a new thing wrong with it every single day. Now i have never seen such a reluctance to try to address issues that are being brought up by customers as i have seen with verizon. No cable company or satellite tv provider could possibly survive that much longer if this were the kind of lack of service that they were providing to people who are actually paying for this nonsense. If verizon has not fixed things in almost a year since the new guide was first released then it looks like to many people that nothing is ever going to change for the better which is bad news for them and good news for the competition.

  • The new guide: change just because, STILL CAN'T SEE CURRENT TV REMINDERS!!

WHoever designed the NEW guide SHOULD BE FIRED IMMEDIATELY. WHY DOES IT STILL TAKE a dozen clciks to see a list of reminders OF CURRENT TV STATIONS THAT I HAVE SET A REMINDER FOR, but it's only a REMINDER LIST FOR FUTURE SHOWS?? DO you people actually think that someone watches a TV Commercial?? Only a **bleep** would watch a geico or progressive car insurance commercial a hundred times a day, day in, day out, on almost every channel. I SWITCH CHANNELS WHEN ANY TV COMMERCIAL COMES ON, and for some reason Verizon refuses to adopt the best thing about Comcast which is: YOU CAN PRESS THE REMINDER BUTTON, SEE A LIST OF ALL THE CURRENT REMINDERS YOU HAVE SELECTED, and simply arrow down to watch another channel until the commercial is done.
It took me 2 1/2 months to familiarize myself with your idiotic, moronic TV Guide, which uses batteries at an outstanding rate, and now everything is changed, why is that? WHoever made that decision should be fired.
The half channel guide now makes it impossible to read whats on the screen EVEN WITH A BIG SCREEN TV. And who cares about hi-def, why in the heck do I want to see the pores on someone's face?
16 clicks to bring up a reminder list, COMCAST DOES IT WITH A SINGLE BUTTON, why is that? Because Verizon doesn't want to be like COmcast?? Everything about Fios and Verizon is just a jumbled mess, too much stuff jammed onto one page, and everything has a similar name, why is that? I have over 6 lbs of Fios junk mail and still get flyers in the mail, most weeks it's multiple flyers of the SAME THING, so don't tell us about saving trees, because first of all there are 400% more trees today than in 1900, and secondly just like COmcast, SAVING A TREE DOESN'T INVOLVE JUNK MAIL.
The new guide is change just for the h*ll of it, and it's just as crappy and hard to use. AND DO SOMETHING ABOUT THE REMINDER LIST< IT SHOULD BE ACCESSIBLE WITH ONE CLICK< AND SHOULD SHOW THE CURRENT, repeat, THE CURRENT LIST OF SHOWS, because we don't watch no stinking commercials.

    TIMBO441,
You have been complaining about reminders for quite awhile.  I have never had Comcast, and don't understand what it is that you mean by reminders.  Since fast access to reminders apparently isn't a feature in any FIOS IMG it is a suggestion for improvement and belongs in http://forums.verizon.com/t5/Share-Your-Ideas-with-Verizon/idb-p/ideas ,
Are you viewing a HDTV?  Most people see a reason for viewing in HD.  I particularly see that as being so for many if not most FIOS TV users.
I haven't seen the IMG 1.9 on SD TV's.  People may see the new color scheme or exact font as poor and others may see it as an improvement.  When I see it at a friend who had the Sneak Preview, the fonts size seemed about the same size to me.  And in one of the threads someone posted all the guide screens, and again they do not appear to be any screens where the font is so small it can't be read even in the SD versions.
The new guide was meant to fix a lot of complaints that people had as well as to add features.   Among the problems addressed
Old screen guide had the last channel cut off by TV's as it was outside the so called Safe margins.
Top line of guide (perhaps on purpose) was completed obscured by info on what channels were being displayed (favorites etc)
Next 3 lines of guide were partially obscured by the small image of the current program
only 1 1/2 hours were displayed
guide didn't fill whole screen on 16x9 TV's
Guide is too dark.  Yes, many complained about that and that led to the new lighter scheme that people now complain about.
    Search to limited
Did they get things wrong.  Almost certainly.
The IMG is also not just about the guide.  Other features added
Native pass-thru.  I.e.. Pass 720p channels as 720, and 1080i as 1080i.  Your already could, if desired pass 480i as 480i/p.
Support eSata external hard drives on newer DVR's.
Support more than one multi-room DVR
Allow more control of multi-room DVR from other STB (and DVR).  Includes starting and deleting recordings
Allow recovery of accidentally deleted recordings
So called program chaptering on DVR recordings
    Parental control improvements

I have two iPads. With two functioning iPads. Is it possible (on the same ID) to sync two of them differently with the same account. So I want to use the new iPad for all my current functions. The old iPad for just my music collection and remove all the other stuff?

Very easily. I have an iPod touch and iPad on the same account with totally different content.
If you use iTunes, connect each iPad to your computer and open iTunes and deselect any automatic updating/syncing. If you don't sync with iTunes but have them set up independently, under the settings, App Store, turn off automatic downloads for apps, etc.
I'm old fashioned, I set up and sync my iPad and iPod to my computer and iTunes. Each device has a different name  and I manage content manually and only allow sharing on what I want shared.

I have been having issues with not receiving texts and voicemails daily, for a few months now. If I turn the phone completely off, when I turn it back on the messages will flood in from hours before. I can't be continually turning off my phone in case someone left me a message. How do I resolve this issue?

Wifi:  my Cell phone will remember 10 wifi connections.  So delete any you don't use often and your home wifi and try to enter home wifi again.
if it still won't connect to home wifi, call your internet provider for help.  You may need a newer router or different settings Or upgraded service.   Your phone seeks the best connection and will refuse lesser connections.
last resort.  Backup the phone.  Do a full reset, then restore as new with the backup.
if still not fixed, go back to apple and insist on repair or replacement.
HOWEVER.   voicemail is not a wifi issue, it's a carrier function, which is why the SIM card is a suspect.

  • Is unplugging TV-out adapter the only way to turn the second display off

When the video out adaper is plugged in the iMacs resolution resets to what the TV-out can handle, I.e. 1024x768.
I hate to have to plug/unplug the connecter to turn the TV-out off and thereby regain normal resolution on the iMac.
Is that the only way? I was hoping that there is a way to disable the video-out and get the iMac back to normal through software rather than physically pull the plug out to turn it off nd then have to plug it back in when I want TV.
Same goes for audio out. Any way to turn the external off while it's plugged in?

Try using ScreenSpanningDoctor. It'll let you have different resolutions for the TV out and the iMac, stopping that insane behavior. Also check out the Griffin iMic for your audio out. Using VLC you can select the second screen for video playback and the iMic for audio. Hope this helps. (works great here)

You can put your iPhone into screen-lock mode (also called sleep mode). It is not off when in this mode: It can still receive calls and other data, but it will not respond to touches on the display, it will not display anything on the screen (except briefly when new data comes in, such as a phone call), and will use much less battery power.
You can place your iPhone into sleep mode by briefly pressing the power button on the top.
You can wake your iPhone from sleep mode by briefly pressing either the power button on the top of the home button just below the screen.
You can set your iPhone to automatically enter sleep mode after a short period of time within the Settings app.
