I want to uninstall firefox and re-install it with no bookmarks pre-loaded

What it says on the tin, basically. I want to reinstall Firefox as if its the very first time I'm installing it, like it has to ask me if I want to import any bookmarks. Is that possible, or do I have to manually delete all of my bookmarks?

You can delete the places.sqlite file in the Firefox profile folder and also all JSON backups in the bookmarkbackups folder if you want to remove all current bookmarks.
If you want to reset all Firefox data then you can use the Profile Manager to delete the current profile folder and all files in it and create a new profile.
A Firefox reset will still preserve some data including bookmarks, so that wouldn't work for you.
You can use this button to go to the currently used Firefox profile folder:
*Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Show Folder (Linux: Open Directory; Mac: Show in Finder)
To make Firefox ask to import data from other browsers you would have to delete the profiles.ini file, that registers all present profiles, in the parent location of the profile folder.
You can import bookmarks manually in the Bookmarks Manager (Library).

Try resetting your preference file next: http://www.lightroomforums.net/showthread.php?14226-Resetting-(or-Trashing-)-the-Lightroom -Preferences-file
    It survives an uninstall/reinstall.

A possible cause is security software (firewall,anti-virus) that blocks or restricts Firefox or the plugin-container process without informing you, possibly after detecting changes (update) to the Firefox program.
Remove all rules for Firefox and the plugin-container from the permissions list in the firewall and let your firewall ask again for permission to get full unrestricted access to internet for Firefox and the plugin-container process and the updater process.

Do a malware check with some malware scanning programs on the Windows computer.<br />
You need to scan with all programs because each program detects different malware.<br />
Make sure that you update each program to get the latest version of their databases before doing a scan.

  • I was infected with Malware. I wanted to uninstall Firefox and reinstall. I did, but after the reinstall, the bookmarks, everything was still there.

How can I ensure a clean install?

Follow the removal instructions that '''ideato''' hyperlinked. Not everything that Trovi installed on your PC resides within Firefox folders; sometimes garbage like that goes so far as to infect the Registry and if you don't get rid of it all it will just reinstall itself into Firefox all over again on launch.
MalwareTips.con is one of the best and most consistently correct websites I have found for dealing with Malware, ''as linked by ideato''.

Hi,i am running linux mint.I tried to change the firefox folder from the file system with a new firefox folder cause i had a problem with one extension(download statusbar). So,after that i have problem, firefox ask me about profile and after some tests about it from me,firefox always says"this profile its allready in use, make a new profile or rename one profile".I don't know anything about profiles, first time i see that i can make a profile it's now.

  • I uninstalled Firefox, and not can't install it again

Firefox would open, but not let me go to anyother pages. It kept showing the "running" icon, and if I tried to hit any buttons, it went into "Not Responding" mode and I had to end it from the task master. I uninstalled Firefox, and tried installing it again. It goes into the download screen, and asks for permission to run the program. I hit run and it then says my user may not have access to all the features of Firefox. It offers to install it as either "Administrator" or as "MyUserName" which has full admin priviledges. I've tried as both, and it runs through the "Extracting" progress bar, which goes all the way to 100% and then just stops.
Help me, Obi-wan, you're our only hope.

It is possible that your anti-virus software is interfering with the installation.<br />
Try to disable the real-time (live) scanning of files in your anti-virus software temporarily to see if that makes it work.
If there are still problems then try to download a fresh copy of the Firefox installer.

  • I updated to Yosemite on my Mac. Firefox then began to freeze. I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded/installed it again. How do I recover bookmarks, etc?

I updated to Yosemite on my iMac. Firefox then began to freeze. I uninstalled Firefox and then downloaded/installed it again. It's possible I uninstalled everything Mozilla related. I'm not sure. How do I recover bookmarks, passwords, etc? I don't believe I previously had a username & password for Mozilla. I do have my Mac backed up in Time machine and also a Carbon Copy Clone.
Also, I was able to migrate setting from Safari. Perhaps I don't want some of that stuff? Looking at the list of installed plugins, I have no clue if they're standard Apple/Mozilla stuff, or if they were selected by me/my family earlier in Safari? Are any of them a threat to my online security?
Any detailed instruction would be most appreciated. I'm not much of a tech guy.
    Thanks.

It is possible that there is a problem with the files sessionstore.js and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
Delete the files sessionstore.js [2] and sessionstore.bak in the Firefox Profile Folder.
    * Help > Troubleshooting Information > Profile Directory: Open Containing Folder
    * http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox
If you see files sessionstore-##.js with a number in the left part of the name like sessionstore-1.js then delete those as well.
Deleting sessionstore.js will cause App Tabs and Tab Groups and open and closed (undo) tabs to get lost, so you will have to create them again (make a note or bookmark them).

Uninstall the Ask toolbar and it should work again. There is a compatibility issue with the Ask toolbar and Firefox that prevents new tabs from being opened.

  • 5.0 update loads whether I want it to or not, and afterwards is open, but does not appear open on the screen, so I have to uninstall Firefox and reinstall 4.o, which works for a few days until the 5.0 update loads by itself, and I repeat the process.

After Firefox automatically updates to 5.0, I cannot open Firefox from the desktop icon, because it's apparently already open, yet I don't see it, and can't find it! It has effectively rendered the internet unusable for me until I uninstall Firefox, and then reinstall 4.0 without the update 5.0. This only lasts a few days before it automatically updates again.
A backup question is, in the event you have no idea what's going on, is how do I prevent 5.0 from automatically installing itself?

First of all, are you aware that Spry is a dead technology and the code you're wrestling with is over 7 years old and will not work with mobile touchscreen devices (essential in today's web world)?
Even though it's included in older versions of Dreamweaver, Adobe formally abandoned Spry last year
    http://blogs.adobe.com/dreamweaver/2012/08/update-on-adobe-spry-framework-availability.htm l'
Point being, few people will advise you to continue along this Spry path.
You're better off investing your energy in a modern up-to-date menu system.
