I want to update my ipod touch but I keep getting an error message...

I want to update my ipod touch to iOS5 5.1.1, current software 4.3.5, with a capacity of 59 GB but I get an error message stating that an error has occured whilst backing up the ipod (-5000) and if I continue to update it I will lose all the contents of the ipod touch will be lost, what should I do, continue or not bother to update my ipod touch?

Haven't much problem with Airs around here, since they have a SSD they tend to be more reliable.
Perhaps it was a bad update, have you ran through this list of possible fixes?
Do as many as possible, starting with #1. Until the problem is resolved.
Use the boot 10.6 USB instead of the disk of course.

I am also having this same problem. I have updated my computer. I have downloaded the complete brother driver package from Apple as well as the drivers from Brother. As far as I can tell, all have been installed successfully. It is only when I try to ADD the printer do I get that message. If you're not a developer then you really should not have upgraded.
I'm unsure how you can fix this as you have already done a back-up on iOS 7 and apple don't support firmware downgrades.

I suspect you have the original (first generation, 1G iPod those can only go to iOS 3.1.3, If your iPod does not have an internal speaker and no volume buttons on upper left edge it is a 1G.
