Don't know your location but two vendors that I highly recommend are
OWC  http://eshop.macsales.com
And Crucial http://www.crucial.com
I would most certainly purchase any ram from either of them and search for the best deal I could find for a hard drive! but I'm not sure your confident enough to do that on your own. If that's the case both have excellent customer service and will help you make the right choices.

No one here would have any information as to where the MacBook Pro was purchased.

  • I Want to upgrade my macbook to 10.8 and higher but it wont upgrade past 10.5.8. Is there something I need to do?

I want to upgrade my macbook white to the current software, however it says that it is up to date even though I only have 10.5.8....
Someone please help me figure out what I need to do to get the current software..

You need to understand the difference between an Update and an Upgrade.
An Update is a free change within an existing Operating System. Such as the .8 added to 10.5.
An Upgrade is a complete new Operating System that must be purchased. Such as 10.5 Leopard to 10.6 Snow Leopard.
You need to upgrade to 10.6. The Snow Leopard 10.6 DVD should still be available from Apple for $20. You will have to call Apple Customer Care 1-800-692-7753 or 1-800-676-2775 to purchase it. It may still be in the Legacy Products list.
The App Store which is required to download 10.7 or 10.8 is part of the 10.6.6 update.
If they no longer have any in stock you will have to buy it from eBay or Apple resellers that still have stock. But you will have to pay a premium since the DVDs are no longer being made. Snow Leopard DVDs are already up to $100 on Amazon.
    http://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_nkw=10.6+snow+leopard&_sacat=0&_odkw=mac+os+10.6 &_osacat=0
First we need to know which one of the 9 different models of MacBook you have. To see which model you have go to the Apple in the upper left corner and select About This Mac, then click on More Info (and then System Report if you’re running 10.7 Lion). When System Profiler comes up check the Model Identifier and post it back here.
The Early 2006 model 1,1 Core Duo can only run a maximum of 10.6 Snow Leopard.
The models Late 2006 Core 2 Duos 2,1 through Early 2008 4,1 can only run a maximum of 10.7 Lion.
The Late 2008 model 5,1 Aluminum Unibody through the Mid 2010 White Unibody model 7,1 can run 10.8 Mountain Lion.
Mac OS 10.5 Leopard became obsolete in July of 2009. Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard came out in July of 2009 and became obsolete in July of 2011 when 10.7 Lion was introduced. Unlike earlier Operating Systems which were removed from the Apple Store when a new OS came out Apple kept Snow Leopard around for a year until 10.8 Mountain Lion came out because the App Store which came out with the 10.6.6 update was required to download Lion.. When Mountain Lion came out they removed Snow Leopard and Lion from the online store.

  • What All Do I Need If I Want To Upgrade My Macbook Hard Drive?

    hey guys.
i've tried reading up a little but i was hoping someone (or a few people) could give me some straight up answers.
if i want to upgrade my macbook hard drive what all do i need? just the hard drive? or are there other pieces?
also.. whats a good 250GB one? i found this one on ebay: http://cgi.ebay.com/NEW-2-5-Western-Digital-250GB-SATA-Harddrive_W0QQitemZ220271 134397QQihZ012QQcategoryZ158853QQssPageNameZWDVWQQrdZ1QQcmdZViewItem
is that one any good? i just know the name (Western Digital) and have heard good things about them...
    any comments are welcome.
    thanks!
    beau

I got a 320GB sata 2.5" hard drive and installed it myself, its easy. I also got a caddy so I can use my old 120GB drive as a back up. Make sure u have everything backed up! Seagate and western digital drives are most popular. I asked similar q and got this answer"
    Extended Hard Drive Preparation
    1. Boot from your OS X Installer Disc. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Installer menu (Utilities menu for Tiger or Leopard.)
    2. After DU loads select your hard drive (this is the entry with the mfgr.'s ID and size) from the left side list. Note the SMART status of the drive in DU's status area. If it does not say "Verified" then the drive is failing or has failed and will need replacing. SMART info will not be reported on external drives. Otherwise, click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.
    3. Click on the Options button, set the partition scheme to GUID (only required for Intel Macs) then click on the OK button. Set the number of partitions from the dropdown menu (use 1 partition unless you wish to make more.) Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Partition button and wait until the volume(s) mount on the Desktop.
    4. Select the volume you just created (this is the sub-entry under the drive entry) from the left side list. Click on the Erase tab in the DU main window.
    5. Set the format type to Mac OS Extended (Journaled.) Click on the Options button, check the button for Zero Data and click on OK to return to the Erase window.
    6. Click on the Erase button. The format process can take up to several hours depending upon the drive size.
Steps 4-6 are optional but should be used on a drive that has never been formatted before, if the format type is not Mac OS Extended, if the partition scheme has been changed, or if a different operating system (not OS X) has been installed on the drive.
If your backup is bootable, then boot from the external drive and use SuperDuper to clone it back to the newly installed drive.

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook pro ram

I want to upgrade my MacBook pro 17'' ram. I have 2X2 GB 1066 MHz and I want to go to 2X4GB but I can't find any with 1066 MHz I found only 1333 MHz. Will it work on my MacBook pro late 2009 unibody 3,06 Ghz Core 2 Duo

do not use anything other than the exact specs.
It MAY work with the 1333MHz (the 1333 will be downclocked) but you will have problems VERY probably.
You have to replace the 2X2 with 2X4.
Buy the best there is: Crucial, OWC: the price is very low. And yes the right spec is for sale everywhere.
Find a respectable internet seller in your area, and buy it: but research the Crucial and/or OWC sites for the exact specification, they have configurators where you put in your computer model.
Replacing is easy, you have to have the right screwdriver, there are 3 screws that are longer, remember where they are.

so what i'm looking for is reassurance before I do anything thank you

There should no problem in installing 8 GB RAM in your MBP.  Crucial is one of the best sources of RAM for Macs.  Now if you are so inclined, you can install 16 GB from OWC, the other reliable source for Mac RAM.

  • I want to upgrade my MacBook late 2009 Ram, any suggestions?

Hi, I've been wanting to upgrade my MacBook's RAM for a while now and I wanted to make sure what brand I should buy. I searched this up on amazon.com: PC2-6400 DDR2 800 MHz Type RAM. I then found this: Crucial 4GB Kit (2GBx2) DDR2 800MHz (PC2-6400) CL6 SODIMM 200-Pin Notebook
Memory Modules CT2KIT25664AC800. Is this the right kind of RAM I should Buy?

OWC is excellent, DataMem, and Crucial.  Links go directly to ram for your mac.  You can upgrade to as high as 8gb.

Two previous questions may not have been as clear as I would have liked. I recently upgraded my MacBook 2008 (10.5.8) to Snow Leopard (10.6.8). With the updates came iTunes 11.1.1 and Quicktime 7.6.6. I am still using Garageband 2008 and iPhoto 2008. When I create music in Garageband I usually adjust the volume and save it. Even now when I share the Garageband created files with iTunes 11.1.1, the volime I previously set in Garageband is retained. However, when I use the music to create a slide show in iPhoto 2008 and export to Quicktime 7.6.6, the volume level I previously set is lost and seems to default to a low level. The problem seems to be either in the slide show export from iPhoto 2008 to Quicktime 7.6.6 or in Quicktime itself. Is there a work around, so that I can retain the volume level I had previously set in Garageband, a volume level that seems to transfer without problem to the new iTunes. But then iPhoto 2008 (slide show) possibly or Quicktime 7.6.6 do not cooperate. Before I did the upgrade to Snow Leopard, the new iTunes and Quicktime I had no problems with the set volume being retained in the old Quicktime. The reason I need control over the volume is that all these music files are uploaded to YouTube.

    thank you.

A Mid 2010 MacBook Pro supports 16 GB of memory without any problem. Macs are "special" about memory because some brands work without any problem and others don't work. That's why I recommend you to buy the memory from OWC or Crucial in order to make sure that you get compatible memory > http://eshop.macsales.com/shop/memory/Apple_MacBook_MacBook_Pro/Upgrade/DDR3

I want to upgrade my macbook pro 15-inch i7 2.3GHz memory and I want to know what is the maximum RAM it could take

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
It looks like you have got an Early 2011 or newer MacBook Pro, so you can use 16 GB of RAM. You can buy more RAM at OWC or Crucial. Remember that you cannot upgrade RAM in MacBooks Pro with Retina display
In case you have got a Mid 2010 MacBook Pro, you can only install 8 GB of RAM

You have to pay for major version upgrades, like LR 3 to LR 5.
You can purchase the upgrade from Adobe for 79 US Dollars from Products, make sure you have your Lightroom 3 serial number available (and maybe cheaper from other sellers)
