I want to upgrade my old airport express to the new express. Can I just switch out the old for the new or must I delete the old network first and start from scratch with the new express?

It is not necessary to delete your old wireless networks first, but doing so may eliminate confusion. If you wish to do that, open System Preferences > Network, and select Wi-Fi from the left column. Click the Advanced... button, then select your old wireless networks and delete them with the "–" (minus) button. Make sure the "Remember networks this computer has joined" remains checked.
OK then Apply.
This prevents your Mac from searching for your previous network which will no longer exist.
A new Express creates an open wireless network that you must select before you can configure it. It appears in your Wi-Fi menu like this:
Select it. AirPort Utility will load and walk you through its configuration.
Edit: If you are really using OS X 10.5.1 as shown in your profile, the above screenshot is not applicable. Instead, select the network called "Apple network nnnnnn" and then launch AirPort Utility.

  • Can I erase all prior network settings and start from scratch?

    I have an imac i3- I had transferred everything from my imac core 2 duo onto (including settings) whenever I got a new computer i transferred everything including settings.
    I have been having problems with internet access- pages stall, it will often take a few minutes for a page to fully load, if I open a second window- both windows stall. This occurs with safari or firefox.
    I have time warner wideband.
    Time warner has been out twice, changed modems- checked all lines- they even connect their laptop (windows) and the pages load very fast, multiple windows- no problems- the internet is actually faster on my ipad connected wirelessly.
    After going to the genius bar- they did a hardware test- everything is ok, they went in and found many settings imported from as far back as 2003. they deleted the old "locations" settings in the network preferences and this improved things right away at the store- they recommended a full system restore without restoring the system settings if the problem wasn't completely fixed.
    The question I have- is there a way to do this without backing everything up, re-installing osx and then recovering my backed up files? can I delete all the network settings alone somehow?
    Thanks

    Hi
    Are you looking in the /Users/Home/Library/Preferences folder by any chance? The home folder is the one with the house icon. If you are then you're looking in the wrong folder. Double-click your hard drive icon and you should see a list of folders. If you view by list or column you should see the top level Library folder below the Applications folder. This is where you should be looking.

  • Getting a "Your network preferences prevent us from communicating with the server" error in dw 5.5

    Hello, lately i noticed dw 5.5 can't seem to use browserlab, it says "Your network preferences prevent us from communicating with the server"
    I can connect to BC and other ftp servers no problem, I've also turned off my firewall to be sure and it still won;t connect.
    The only info I found on this error is a tip on how to turn off browserlab, which in turn gets this error, Not sure why you would wnat to shut the feature off, but no tip to turn it on. The tip on editing the registry doesn;t help because itsyays to change the registry key to 0 and all communication of adobe products will be turned off, however the key does exist and is set to 1, so I can;t even try that tip in reverse to enable, itshould be communication already.
    Any help would be appreciated, I am just competinga  site and was about to check it in all the browsers, an incredibly useful and time saving feature, but I can't now.

    Phil, the only screenshot I've seen from you is the error message (and I can't seem to view the others you just posted), so apologies if I told you something you'd already tried. We still think there should be a solution to this, it's just that debugging issues this way can be a little difficult, so please bear with us.
    At this point our best guess is that there is a registry setting that got changed that is causing the issue for both of you. We have been able to repro the issue on Windows XP by setting the following 32-bit registry entry to 0. The issue was fixed by changing it back to 1. We've also tested on Windows 7 and verified the same thing with the 64-bit registry entry. Apologies if I'm suggesting something that any of you has already tried, but no details were provided about which registry entry you checked or what article you were looking at.
    From the CSLive team:
    "To my knowledge the only way to get that error message is to disable CSLive in the registry. The Customer does not mention the exact article or reg value that he is looking at in his post but it should be:
    For 32-bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Adobe\AdobeOnlineDefault.
    For 64-bit systems: HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Wow6432Node\Adobe\AdobeOnlineDefault
    http://kb2.adobe.com/cps/846/cpsid_84665.html
    He should delete the AdobeOnlineDefault entry in the registry and try again. (he may need to stop and restart CS55Services Manager or reboot machine)."
    Let us know if this fixes the issue for you or not. As with any change to the registry we recommend you make a backup first and proceed carefully.
    Thanks,
    Mark

  • I want to start from scratch with my itunes.  How do I do this?

    I want to start from cratch with my itunes.  I have a lot of music on my PC, but since changing to my current laptop, all the music is duplicated, there is a lot I want to delete and I am in a real mess. Thanks in advance.

    Hi Norm
    I would love advice on a similar situation.  Long story short: I want to scrap itunes completly and move all music files to yet another external drive and reinstall itunes.
    Back story:   prior versions of itunes have duplicated file locations (every update reset file location back to default C drive without me knowing) on the main harddrive and also on an external drive, my backup software has somehow compounded this issue. I have 3 and 4 duplicates of music files and while trying to fix that issue I inadvertantly deleted several hundred files.
    So my clear solution is a fresh start.  I just want to search my entire computer for music files e.g. (*.wav) and put them on a brand new clean external drive and start over.   That way I can safely delete all these enormous backup files that are using up over 500g's of space on my computer.  New library- New Location- new itunes.
    what do you think?

    Saw this solution on another post about an iPad in a school enviroment. Might work on your iPad so you won't lose everything.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ‘iPad is disabled’ fix without resetting using iTunes
    Today I met my match with an iPad that had a passcode entered too many times, resulting in it displaying the message ‘iPad is disabled – Connect to iTunes’. This was a student iPad and since they use Notability for most of their work there was a chance that her files were not all backed up to the cloud. I really wanted to just re-activate the iPad instead of totally resetting it back to our default image.
    I reached out to my PLN on Twitter and had some help from a few people through retweets and a couple of clarification tweets. I love that so many are willing to help out so quickly. Through this I also learned that I look like Lt. Riker from Star Trek (thanks @FillineMachine).
    Through some trial and error (and a little sheer luck), I was able to reactivate the iPad without loosing any data. Note, this will only work on the computer it last synced with. Here’s how:
    1. Configurator is useless in reactivating a locked iPad. You will only be able to completely reformat the iPad using Configurator. If that’s ok with you, go for it – otherwise don’t waste your time trying to figure it out.
    2. Open iTunes with the iPad disconnected.
    3. Connect the iPad to the computer and wait for it to show up in the devices section in iTunes.
    4. Click on the iPad name when it appears and you will be given the option to restore a backup or setup as a new iPad (since it is locked).
    5. Click ‘Setup as new iPad’ and then click restore.
    6. The iPad will start backing up before it does the full restore and sync. CANCEL THE BACKUP IMMEDIATELY. You do this by clicking the small x in the status window in iTunes.
    7. When the backup cancels, it immediately starts syncing – cancel this as well using the same small x in the iTunes status window.
    8. The first stage in the restore process unlocks the iPad, you are basically just cancelling out the restore process as soon as it reactivates the iPad.
    If done correctly, you will experience no data loss and the result will be a reactivated iPad. I have now tried this with about 5 iPads that were locked identically by students and each time it worked like a charm.
    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    Try it and good luck. You have nothing more to lose if it doesn't work for you.
     Cheers, Tom

  • Start from scratch with multiple catalogues

    I have just installed Lightroom 4 and want to get started by setting up more than one catalogue but I am not sure if you have to have one catalogue for every photo in addition to the separate catalogues I want for subsets of photos. Can I just go ahead and make several catalogues and sort my photos (which are on my hard drive) into them without making a catalogue that references every photo? Maybe it's a good idea to have one complete catalogue as well in order to make it easier to find that missing photo?Also I have read that it is a good idea to store catalogue files in a separate folder in the root, which appeals to my sense of organisation, but do I need to make separate sub-folders for my individual catalogues or can they just all go into the one folder? Can't wait to get started!
    Thanks,
    Nick

    In my opinion, multiple catalogs is usually a bad idea, especially for beginners. It will lead to confusion, duplication of effort, and waste of time.
    The only time I can envision using multiple catalogs is when you have totally non-overlapping subject matter, such as business and work.
    The idea you are considering, a "full" catalog, and several sub-catalogs, is just extra work with no benefit. Furthermore, since Lightroom stores edits and metadata in its database, changes you make in one catalog are not reflected in the other catalog(s). Did I say extra work with no benefit? I think I meant extra work with no benefit and significant disadvantages. I'm sure if I wanted to, I could make a list of 10 disadvantages to multiple catalogs.
    So, I recommend a single catalog for all your photos. Make your life as simple as possible. You lose nothing by using a single catalog. You can take advantage of Lightroom's capabilities (which are significant) to slice and dice your photos in many many ways, giving you "virtual sub-catalogs" whenever you need them, without the effort of creating and managing a sub-catalog.

  • How can I reset/refresh Mail and start from scratch in Lion?

    Just completed the upgrade to Lion last night.  On Snow Leopard I had been using Thunderbird as my mail client, but I'm interested in seeing what the upgrades in Mail look like and will do.  Before Thunderbird I did use Mail, so opening the app brought up all my old settings, smart boxes, etc.  I want to start from scratch as though I had never used Mail before - how can I reset it to "zero"?  Can I, or do I need to just manually delete the accounts, folders, boxes, etc. and then re-add them?
    Thanks for the help and advice.

  • Delete everything in Sharepoint 2013 and start from a begining

    How do you delete all the settings, databases in Sharepoint 2013 and start from a begining.
    We have some problems that PictureURL is wrong and some other thing ain't working right. Because Sharepoint 2013 is in our test environment we would like to delete all settings, databases including PictureURL info, which I don't know which SQL database holds
    that information?
    bostjanc

    The pictureURL parameter is either going to be in the specific site collection in the User Information List, or it is going to be in the User Profile Synchronization Service Application, which is what syncs over to the User Information List. You will need
    to identify exactly what you are trying to clear out. If you are not using User Profile Synchronization in your test environment then the following will help you find and delete the appropriate Site Collection or content database.
    Any content is going to be Site Collection specific, so if you are setting the pictureURL for a user in http://portal.domain.com/sites/somesitecollection then that Site Collection will be in a specific database which may also contain other Site Collections.
    To find out which database a Site Collection is in go to Central Administration -> Application Management -> Site Collections -> View All Site Collections. Here you can find the Site Collection you are browsing to. When you select it you will see
    what content database it is in. You can also just delete the Site Collection here without the need to delete the entire content database. Instead of clicking View All Site Collections in the steps above click Delete a Site Collection. That is probably the
    better route to go.
    If you are using the User Profile Synchronization and this is where the picture URL is set then you will want to go to Central Administration -> Application Management -> Service Applications -> Manage Service Applications -> Click your User
    Profile Service App and then view the user profiles. Find the user you want to remove the pictureURL for and edit that user profile to remove the picture.
    Hope that helps!

  • Airport Utility for my Airport Extreme needs to be changed to a different computer, because the current computer is down permanently.. How do I do this?  Do I have to reset the Airport Extreme and start from scratch?

    The computer (Win XP) on which the Airport Utility has been set up for the past few years is no longer accessible, so I need to set it up on a different computer. Can I do that with my exisitng wireless network, or will I have to set up a new network from scratch, once I have installed Airport Utility on the new machine?

    You can install AirPort Utility on either a Mac or PC, but there would be no reason to make any changes to your existing configuration on the AirPort Extreme unless you need to do so.

  • How to start from scratch with iCal (getting rid of duplicate iCal events)

    For reasons I can't figure out, all my iCal events are duplicated 6 times in iCal. None of these events can be deleted (either by hitting the Delete key or via the Edit menu).
    I tried using an AppleScript for this purpose (http://www.johnmaisey.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/applescripts/ ) but it doesn't work, at least on my 10.5.1 Mac.
    I'm pretty sure I'm going to switch over to Daylite, for both my Calendar and Address Book functions, but until then, it'd be nice to start fresh with iCal, since I'm also trying out a .mac account for the first time, and it might be handy to have a clean calendar backup.
    Is there a method for just starting fresh with iCal?

  • I want to factory reset my MacBook Pro to delete EVERYTHING in there and start from scratch but it won't work! HELPP!

    I have  a MacBook Pro and I have A LOT of files in there which I don't need anymore. And it's too much to sit and do it one by one so I want to completely reset it to factory settings. I tried booting it from the OS X CD by holding C during startup but it won't work. It just gets stuck on the white or gray screen with the apple logo. Nothing else. I'm assuming that it's because the software version on the Mac is 10.6.8 but the boot disk I'm using is 10.6.3? But I'm not sure.
    I also tried booting the CD with holding the option key and choosing the disk, same problem.
    Opening Disk Utility while regularly logged in, won't let me delete.
    Also tried changing the setting of what to boot in on startup, still gets frozen on the apple logo.
    Please what can I do to fix this and delete everything?
    Thank you in advance!

    Clean Install of Snow Leopard
         1. Boot the computer using the Snow Leopard Installer Disc.  Insert the disc into the
             optical drive and restart the computer.  After the chime press and hold down the
             "C" key.  Release the key when you see a small spinning gear appear below the
             dark gray Apple logo.
         2. After the installer loads select your language and click on the Continue
             button. When the menu bar appears select Disk Utility from the Utilities menu.
             After DU loads select the hard drive entry from the left side list (mfgr.'s ID and drive
             size.)  Click on the Partition tab in the DU main window.  Set the number of
             partitions to one (1) from the Partitions drop down menu, set the format type to Mac
             OS Extended (Journaled, if supported), then click on the Partition button.
         3. When the formatting has completed quit DU and return to the installer.  Proceed
             with the OS X installation and follow the directions included with the installer.
         4. When the installation has completed your computer will Restart into the Setup
             Assistant. Be sure you configure your initial admin account with the exact same
             username and password that you used on your old drive. After you finish Setup
             Assistant will complete the installation after which you will be running a fresh
             install of OS X.  You can now begin the update process by opening Software
             Update and installing all recommended updates to bring your installation current.

  • I just got a MacBook pro os 10.4.11, do I format and start from scratch, or just trash all existing non so files

    Mac's Hard drive is full of pics, home videos, it's all been backed up to an external HD. Do I risk formatting and reinstalling everything that seems to be working fine?

    Thanks , did it but  I may have to do it again. While installing, I had the external attached, did manage to disconect it without wiping it, TG. but after my install, the fresh OS couldn't open files on the external. So I connected the ED to my old IMac and everything was there, opened fine. So I ran disk utility, first aid, first verified, confirmed verification, repaired permissions and so on. (all of which have no idea exactly what it does) but it fixed it. I hooked that ED to the MacBook Pro and files opened, no problem. It's up and running fine, quite fast, however..
    I did not see this last reply from Kappy. Thanks by the way. I did not notice the (smart status), and I must have partitioned, (don't remember doing it) because when I ran disk utility yesterday, it did say " jurneled" somewhere.   My concern is my MBP does seem to take a while to boot, the chord sound plays right away, but it does seem to take longer to reach desk top. I had some crashes yesterday, while editing in IMovie but that's before I DU. After DU she still seems the take a bit longer to display the Mac  OSX loading screen. Maybe it just me.
    I'll see how it goes from here on, will redo as u have suggested above, if problems appear or if u have any suggestions as how I can test my install to insure everything is correct and  uncorripted? One problem I do have is that ITunes will not connect, I understand this it a common problem with the MacBookPro running OS 10.4.11, on an early intel albumin case, because u cant run newer itunes on it. But some have suggested i might try an earlier itunes that may work? also this unit has lost it's display at one point, it did not reappear until it was hooked up to an external display, the external worked, and after playing wt the settings, I got the inboard one  back, although it has momentarily gone out a few times since, and I do understand this is a bad chip common to these units, but we all have to live in hope.
    Again u have been great, I'm looking forward to transferring some of my GarageBand projects over from my iPad sine the one on the Mac has soo many more advantages, problem is, can't until I tunes works. I can only send songs that are completed. One step at a time, thanks, Daaaaat
