I want to use FaceTime on iPad but my iPhone connects instead

I am trying to use my iPad for FaceTime since screen is bigger, and when I get a call from my daughter it shows call coming in but it won't let it connect....I can only answer it with iPhone . I've tried shutting down my phone completely but that doesn't seem to work either. Any ideas or something I am not doing correctly?

two things.
first, on both the phone and the pad, look in settings, face time - and note what 'receive at ' addresses you have declared. if you want a call to go the pad only, give it an additional facee time address (valid e mail address) that the phone does not recognize. You can have multiple 'receive at ' address on each device.
Second, about two weeks ago a lot of folks lost the ability to use face time. This was due to a software problem (expired certiicates), and it was corrected as part of the most recent ios update. From your description, it sounds like your phone has been updated, but not the pad. Do that update, and the pad should then work ok on facetime.

Yes, the email addresses need to be unique to each device. You may use the same Apple ID on each device, but the email address used by each device needs to be different.

You should be able to call the iPad using your Apple ID from the iPhone. When calling from iPad use the iPhone's phone number to initiate the call.

Very easily. I have an iPod touch and iPad on the same account with totally different content.
If you use iTunes, connect each iPad to your computer and open iTunes and deselect any automatic updating/syncing. If you don't sync with iTunes but have them set up independently, under the settings, App Store, turn off automatic downloads for apps, etc.

Copy everything from the old computer or your backup copy of your old computer to your new one.

Your gmail address is still your apple id. Just when you activate your mail and notes, it asks you to create icloud e-mail, which is completely separate and allows you to have one more e-mail address. Just some extra benefit, you don't have to pay for, but useful to save your notes and send e-mail or two if Google server goes down.
