I want to use .mov files on a pc

I'm trying to play movie files I've created in Final Cut on PowerPoint in a PC. I've used Compressor to create different sizes of the movies, and iSkysoft Video Converter to make mpeg and wmv files. However, when I actually get the files to a PC, problems develop. A "Medialooks" watermark shows up on the video, and though the video plays correctly once or twice, now the screen simply goes white, no matter what format we use.
Any suggestions on a fool-proof way of getting a PC to play what we've created on a Mac? This will be for distribution to several users.
Thanks for any ideas.

Or, use Telestream's Flip4Mac Studio to generate WMV files in the Mac.

  • How to use .mov files for video in Flash...

    Hello-
I am trying to use .mov files for my Flash videos. I know it uses .mp4/flv/f4v, but I really need to use .movs. I know this works... but how?
    Suggestions?

unfortunately running it through Adobe Encoder makes it a much, much larger file and the quality goes out the window. i really need to use .mov.
    any suggestions?

  • I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

I am having problems using mov files imported into a project. I get the message "Not rendered" in the Canvas and clip won't play. Can anyone help?

When clips won't play without rendering in the Timeline, it usually means that the clip's specs don't match the Sequence settings.
A .mov file could be made from any number of codecs; the QuickTime Movie designation is merely a container for video files of all kinds.  Since FCE only works with the QuickTime DV codec and the Apple Intermediate Codec (AIC) natively, if your mov files aren't one of those two, you need to convert them PRIOR to importing into your FCE project.

  • I am writing an interactive book and want to use media files and stuff.

I am writing an interactive book and want to use media files and stuff. My question is: If I want to sell this book in the iBookstore,
may I use photos I find on google images and media i find on youtube? Or must all be my own stuff?

No !  well not just any photo image or "media". The person who created the photo images has a copyright protection IF  he/she wishes to impose it - ditto video and other  media.
However if its out of copyright by  virtue of age and certain other factors - its considered in "The Public Domain" which is why you see paintings by the Impressionists all over chocolate boxes and posters to name but two!
There are websites offering images donated by the creators and all for free.
Taking and using a picture you do not own copyright and placing online where it can be downloaded is  first "publishing" and you  need permission and placing in a situation where it can be copied and re-distributed is a breach of copyright.
Look at the  tail end credits on any DVD...  the above is always  included.
Others rmay  correct me but Copyright in some countries is vaild from creation until 50 years after the death of the creator. However, that is not always the case.  Example, assume I am bequeathed a photo archive and on the  last day year 50,  I  publish a completely new version of the archive, wizzed through Photoshop, cleaned, cropped and modified in other ways.. then I can assert my claim for copyright of the renewed archive, but its a bit more complicated!!!
You can search for "Free Photo Images (  media) , or royalty free images and if you land on a particular website you can ask permission. If you send me a request, my reply will be NO... and you get a warning of dire consequences if your infringe my copyright!  Other may be more lenient and in fact feel pretty good to be  asked.
A way to get some guidance is to check out Wikipedia and the many  images included in its subject matter, check out the copyright status.
Beware of using  photo images of paintings in  Galleries and Museums, they may have copyright conditions.. but one can always contact them to seek  permission.
Search  for  Copyright and ownership and it should bring up some good information. Depending on your country.. it may have its own  Copyright website. USA are more detailed than most, The UK has the 1988 Copyright Act.
Also remember that all photo images carry exif embedded data which  among other things carries the copyright information and shows up in a google search for the right  keyword!  Scanned images processed through Photoshop and other editors  can have the metatdata added also.

Quit - or force quit - Aperture, if it is still trying to transfer MObile Me content.
Then relaunch. When the "Mobile Me has ended" panel appears press the "Learn More" button, not the "o.k." button.
Then you should be able to open the Preferences in Aperture and and open the "Web" panel. Remove "Mobile Me" from the Accounts pane.
Then also open the System preferences > Mobile Me panel and check if you are still signed into Mobile Me.
If this does not work, try to disconnect from the Internet before you launch Aperture again.

  • Using .mov files in FCE

I am converting my old Super8 and 16mm film for use with digital video editing software. The lab has told me they can deliver a compressed file in the .mov format. What are the benefits of this file and should I look into any other formats?
    Thanks,
    Jim

If you are editing the material using iMovie, .dv will work.
If you are editing in Final Cut Express or Pro, you'll want DV/NTSC Quicktime (mov) files.
    Good luck,

  • Setting up iTunes on a Windows computer to use movie files on Time Machine?

I posted this question in the TC Forum, too, but upon reflection thought that I should do so here, too.
I have succeeded in mapping my TC’s hard drive to my desktop Windows (XP Professional) computer. I have also changed the iTunes Music folder location on that computer to the folder on the TC’s hard drive that contains my MP4 movie files. I want to be able to leave iTunes open in the XP desktop at all times so that I can stream movies from iTunes to my Apple TV whenever I want. Currently, I am using iTunes on my MBP with Apple TV. The problem with that is that the MBP has to be awake and iTunes open. That’s a problem because I like to close the MBP when I am not using it.
My problem is that I don’t know how to make movie files on the TC show up in iTunes on the XP desktop. I assume, but don’t know that, because my iTunes Music folder is now designated as being on the TC, whatever I do will not use a lot of hard drive space on the XP desktop. Nevertheless, I need to know before I try it because my movie files are exponentially larger than the available disk space on the XP. In short, what do I do to get the movie files that reside on the TC to show up in iTunes on the XP desktop without taking up a bunch of the XP’s disk space? Any help will be much appreciated.

Winston – Thanks for your advice. Thanks to you, I seem to be pretty close to having this thing under control. After I designated the movies folder on the TC as my Music folder in iTunes, I double clicked on a couple of the files and each immediately showed up in my iTunes movies folder. They also streamed to my Apple TV without incident. So far so good.
My original movies folder on the TC is named M4V Movies. Somehow, iTunes created a subfolder in my M4V Movies folder, named it Movies, and moved the two movie files I had double clicked on there. From this I inferred that any movie I moved into the M4V Movies\Movies folder would show up in iTunes. Unfortunately, it didn’t work that way, as I moved another movie file from M4V Movies to the Movies subfolder and the file I had moved there didn’t appear in iTunes.
Finally, I simply dragged the remaining movie files’ icons into iTunes and, Voila!, they showed up both there and in my Shared Movies folder on Apple TV. Thus, it looks like the worst is over. The only remaining problem is that three of my movie files in iTunes are in the Movies subfolder but all of the others remain in the M4V Movies folder, although all are in the iTunes apps Movies folder. But that’s a problem for another day. By the way, dragging the movie files into the iTunes Movies folder did not cause them to be copied to the C: drive, the only full version of each is still on the TC.
Thanks for your help, I couldn’t have done it without you.

  • How do I setup iTunes on a Windows computer to use movie files on a TC?

Smokerz – Thanks for the feedback. I managed to get iTunes to find the movie files on my TC by simply dragging the icons of the files on the TC into the Movies folder in iTunes. This immediately made them available for streaming on my Apple TV. Also, I learned with great relief that, despite their large size, dragging icons of my movie files into iTunes did not copy them to the C: drive on my desktop computer. Thus, it looks as if the job is pretty much done. Thanks again for your advice.

  • Using mov files create from power point in Final Cut.

Hello, I am trying to import a mov file that I exported from power point into Final Cut pro. I'm using final cut 5 and power point 11.3.2 . When I try to import the mov file, final cut says file error: unknown file type. how can I get final vut to recognize this file or how can I convert it to a file that final cut will recognize???
    thanks for your time
    mike

If I am not mistaken, Power Point exports .wmv files. If this is the file type you have I would recommend purchasing Flip4Mac. It is not that expensive and it will provide .wmv support to QT.

  • Help-just want to convert .mov file

Hi; just upgraded to quicktime pro for one reason.
I have a digital camera that records video in .mov files.
I want to convert the .mov files to mpeg; so that I can edit them in WindowsMovie maker.
I have a 35meg .mov file that I just converted to MPEG4; and now it looks awful. it is only 3mb. can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong?
i called apple; but of course--they don't offer support.
    Jim

First off, you should try to make the editing file an uncompressed format since you are going to wind up re-compressing after the editing is finished and multiple compressions will make any file look bad. Try uncompresed avi or DV stream and see if Movie Maker will accept one of those.
As for the problem with the file you compressed looking awful that is probably because the mpeg4 wound up with a very low datarate. Click on Options in the export file box and make the datarate higher and see if that improves the look.

  • Can I make a DVD, for TV Viewing, using .MOV files?

Sorry to bother you with this but I am new to video. I am using a G4, 1400 GHZ, 1gig RAM, OS X 10.3.9 and have Stream Clip 1.7 installed. I also have Quicktime Pro 7 with the MPEG converter. I have imported some movie footage which I intended to burn to DVD but my files are huge. One of them is about 4 gig; the others are 2.25 to 3.5 gig. I used the basic tutorial I found on your web site as a guide. I chose the "Export to Quicktime" option and withing the Movie Exporter "settings" window I chose the following:
    H.264 Encoder
    Quality + 100%
    2 Pass
    MPEG-4 AAC
    27.97 frame rate
    640 X 352 (unscaled)
    Use B-Frames
    Interlaced Scaling = OFF (unchecked)
The footage looks good, except that is is no longer wide screen (I don't know why, but I could live with it), but the files are to big to put more than one one a DVD. I am also not sure that .MOV is the best format for me to have picked since I want to be able to view this on a TV.
Can you help me out please.
    Thank you.

    Glenn

The instructions I gave were for video from a DVD. If you are importing from a DV camera the video should be in DV format. The files will be huge, but iDVD will compress to MPEG-2 to burn to a DVD that can be played on a standard DVD player. iDVD can also use other input formats, but the quality may be lower because the video will have to be re-encoded. iDVD also has OneStep DVD to take the video directly from the camera. Look in Help in iDVD.

  • How can I export a surround sound movie file using compressor?

I want to create movie files using Motion and Soundtrack Pro that have surround sound. I can make ac3 surround sound files in SOundtrack Pro, I can add them to projects in Final Cut Pro, but I can't see any way to use Compressor to output the movie files with surround sound. The encoding results in plain stereo files. Please help.

HI Tony, you should be able to do this simply within the Compressor.app V4.1.x using the "surround Sound Group" and the shipped setting DOLBY DIGITAL setting. Instead of just adding a file, you need to:
Add a "Surround Sound Group" (control++i or file/add surround sound group or use the "+" plus sign at bottom left corner of Current/BATCH window". You'll get  a pane with the channels you need to manipulate.
Click on the tracks Icons L to Rs and  select the surround tracks as prompted and navigate through the finder interface. .. simple. WAV, BWF etc
Optionally Add the video object from here too.
Select the BATCH job (top layer with the ORBIT looking icon)) and use the INSPECTOR (right pane) to see what audio objects have been selected and verify location etc.. follow the dialogue (follow your nose)
Then Select the SETTING layer and use the default DOLBY DIGITAL setting and form the "settings/Create Blu Ray/Dolby Digital" and drag it over the batch job setting
Select this and adjust the LOCATION for the target distribution
Select the INSPECTOR AUDIO pane (right pane) and adjust any settings and EFFECTS to your taste.
select the cluster (if one is defined)
+B (submit) the job for the distribution or another master.
This will work fine.. pretty easy..  You'll need to work the audio settings as you like. If you get stuck, use the compressor.app V4.1 help.. its actually good.
Post your results for others to see.

  • Create mov files using QT Pro

    Hello
I belive that you know faster way to import 100 movies with avi extenssion.
I'm usin Quick Time Pro to create *.mov files.
Do you know fastest way to do converssion.
I'm using *.mov files to play movies in Front Row later.
    Thanx in advance

Although I don't run the newer iTunes I feel fairly confident in saying it won't play AVI and there aren't any plugins for that.  In fact iTunes won't play multiple other formats such as FLAC (marginal plugin support to supposedly make this possible).  They simply don't have motive for supporting it, and in some cases a specific motive for not supporting it.
I'm not up on the Lion issues. From mumblings on various discussions on ASC I'd say it's a new OS and wait for the dust to settle (that's why I like old, comfortable systems ).
I'd suggest just learning to play avi with another player, even though they don't have the database convenience of iTunes. Also check Songbird. I can't run it on my machine so I haven't done so, but it may have extended features.

  • Transcode .mov files to DNxHD using Media Encoder 6

I want to transcode .mov files (H.264 shot on Canon 5D Mark III) to DNxHD 175 for editing in Avid. I know that later versions of Media Encoder allow you to transcode to DNx. Is there a way to download the DNX codec to Media Encoder.
Is there a way to upgrade to latest version of Media Encoder without buying whole Creative Cloud monthly option?  I bought one of large Adobe software packages before they switched to Creative Cloud. I shouldn't have to pay for expensive monthly charge when I just paid hundred for software package.

No. All versions of AME are now on Creative Cloud.

Sorry if a Creative Cloud subscription won't work for you, but it's the only way to stay current with Adobe creative software.
